Following Hurricane Matthew, I had a few shingles blown off. I called Window King of Sanford. I spoke with the owner. I asked when he could come check out my roof and possible fix. He felt like it could be done quickly. He sent me a text which stated, "supposed to be beautiful and sunny all week. Probably will be tomorrow or Wednesday." It is Thursday night. While lying in bed, I got a text from him at 10:38pm. It is the first I have heard from him, Garrett (the owner). Though, I texted him twice since I had not heard. My last text said, Any idea when you might be coming to check my roof?" His 10:28, two day late text said, "Late next week." So, I basically wasted two days of trying to reach him, thinking he was coming soon, for him to tell me "late next week." Seriously? This certainly tops some of my worst consumer experiences. I would have been fine if he had called me and explained why it would be over a week after he originally told me. But, I didn't get any communications. I had to text twice. And late one night, well after my inquiries, he text me this disappointing news. Unreal.

Window King of Sanford recently replaced the roof on my home and I highly recommend this company. Kenneth returned calls quickly, showed up on time for appointments, and quoted a good price. he is very considerate, and respectful of my home and pets, and even pointed out that one of the tires on my car looked low! In the process of getting the loan to finance the new roof he kept in touch and let me know when he got word that the price of the shingles was about to go up. Once I called to let him know I had the check, the work was done within 4 days. The shingles were delivered on Friday and the work was done on Saturday. The roof looks great, his crew was great, and left my yard looking better than when they arrived. They even used a metal detector to make sure there were no nails left in my yard. Whoever says you can't find good help has never hired Window King of Sanford.

We decided to replace all of our windows back in November 2013 and did some research to find good quality contractors. I found WIndow King of Sanford and saw all the rave reviews on the Internet, so we called and Mr. Garrett came to the house and gave a great pitch. We got the quotes back and we decided to go with Window King. This was before Christmas and he told us he could have the job done before Christmas. That did not happen. Everything started going bad when he said he could not install the windows we decided on and he would have to order and install new construction windows, which were less quality windows than the replacement windows we picked. The project started in January and his crew installed 3 windows and tore off most of my siding on the outside. They left a mess in the kitchen, which at the time we were ok with to clean up. We had also contracted him to install 3 new windows and we met with him and his lead worker to go over the details of where the windows would go. His workers then cut the holes in my living room for the 2 windows and realized my electric ran in the middle. He said he had a friend who was an electrician who could re-route the wiring. That took over 2 weeks to happen and we had 2 holes in my living room for that time. Now the irritating part. Weather delayed work for a couple of weeks, and they left all of their tools (drills, miter saw, etc) on my front porch, along with 4 new windows, ladders leaning up against my house, saw horses laying all over my yard, a utility trailer parked in my driveway, and a truck. I called him to complain about the mess they left and he said he would take care of it. What he did was take the truck and took the debris that was in the truck to the dump and then brought the truck back to my house. My neighbors even complained about the mess he and his crew left in front of my house for over a month. When they finally did start back to work, they left a mess in every room they worked in (sheet rock, wood, dirt, etc) that we had to clean up. They finally started on my siding and they ripped my new gutter downspouts off of the house and left them hanging by the gutter for over 3 weeks during the bad snow storm. By February, I was pretty upset that this project was dragging on and he was in no hurry to complete the job, in spite of calling us many times for more money. What should have taken 2 weeks total to do took the Window King over 2 months to complete. How I rate the Window King: Windows (Simonton): They are nice windows and the install looks nice...no complaints Siding : Looks alright, but he told my wife and I that we would have less seams in the back than we did with our old siding, which was not true and when I said something about it, he pretty much called me a liar and that he did not say that. Really? You just called my wife and I liars? Craftmanship: They did a great job, however, they never cleaned up after themselves or put their tools away. Ladders all over my house, yard and front porch. Very sloppy to let potential customers see your mess, especially when he put his sign in my front yard. Management: I rate this one at an "F". When I started getting upset with my house being in a wreck, I brought to his attention about the mess, and down spouts and he got defensive. I paid good money and expect to be treated with respect. When the siding was finally completed and they finally took all of the ladders and tools away, I picked up a half a coffee can of nails laying in my yard where my dogs and grand kids play, nails on my porch, nails where I park my vehicles and driveway. When I said something to him about it, he once again got defensive and called my a liar. I told him then that I wanted him out of my house and to send me a final bill. He sent the bill on a Friday, we got it that Saturday, we wrote the check and mailed it on Monday and he already started calling wanting his money on Tuesday. This was a painful experience, and one I never want to go through again. Even with all the disagreements at the end, he still hounds me for a letter of recommendation for his work. Well, here it is. Bottom line, would I hire him to do anything else around my house? Definitely NO! He is a good talker, but there is a different side to him when he disagrees with you. Hate to be negative, but when I spend my money I want to be treated like the King!

For 17 years and 3 bad reviews I consider very good when you deal with nuts like this guy . If you'll recall we had several rain days during this non stop cold / wet winter when we were doing this job . I can assure homeowners there was no mess . When he called saying stuff was all in his front hard THERE WAS NONE - Our Saw was on his porch in the corner .covered nicely . When people owe you money they will come up with anything to try to write negative reviews . I invite everyone to check the North Carolina Better Business Bureau website for there selves to see WE MAINTAIN AN A+ RATING YEAR AFTER YEAR. *** Also see the great Reviews on any site - Google , Yahoo , Yello pages , Yelp and others . He was true to his word and always showed up on time. He made it a pleasant experience and he ensured me if I had any problems with my roof he would be there. I had a problem with my chimney, which was not even part of his job and he came out the next day and fixed it. I was very impressed.

I hired this company after checking with neighbors who had previous work done and the BBB. New roof and windows is a huge investment and although I feel I was prudent in selecting properly, I quickly realized I picked the wrong company. First, the work was rushed and while the windows were OK, no apparent deficiencies, the roof was horrible. The owner of the company pressed hard for full payment even though quality was in dispute and explained in a timely manner, although more than 50% was paid already even during our dispute which I thought was reasonable to keep leverage and not be taken advantage of. The roof had numerous exposed nails and both I and a professional roofing inspector could not find, during inspection, a single area of acceptable standard nailing patterns. The ridge vent was cut improperly causing high probability of water infiltration due to unsupported shingles. The owner spoke well but wasn't going to budge until I sought legal advice and a written inspection report, even still I was threatened with having pay all legal fees by his one-sided questionable contract, and my consolation prize offered was a 'personal' guarantee that the roof would not fail. Ok, that and $3 might get me a cup of coffee. Forget resale value and peace of mind, both of which would be out the window. Next, we finally agreed on a plan to re-roof again but this time with a whole different crew. This time actually turned out to be with a whole different company who I found to be easy to work with once they fully understood what was needed to do (complete re-roof) which was a complete surprise to them on the day before they began work. Weather was a factor when doing the roof a second time but the new person in charge had absolutely no problem meeting standards and getting the job done properly. For that I was thankful and glad to finally end the drama. I ended up paying about $500 or so more than originally contracted but due to all the problems I was glad it wasn't more, it could have been a lot more and it could have been a lot uglier. Because of this I cannot recommend for roofing to others and I fear for those who are unable to inspect their own roof work done by this original company. *UPDATE-Rebuttal: Potential customers can decide for themselves and my opinion is no one should have to use religion as a crutch. Let's not misrepresent the facts though, there may have been 8 or so exposed nails counted but those were not the only significant defects in standards across the entire roof. One would have thought that a new crew might have had some supervision. Owens-Corning prints instructions with pictures on each bundle of shingles, really. A reasonable person, me, plus a reasonable 3rd party licensed contractor recommended by Owens-Corning were both shocked at how the original work was attempted to be passed off as acceptable. Calling me a liar about the approximate $500 is convenient but fails to acknowledge the truth, that was money that went to Lowe's to pay for ridge vent I agreed to pay for. I wasn't going to mention $150 lawyer fee. I have proof of both of those too. In the end, it came out ok, but I would not say I am 'happy.' I only feel it is my duty to share my experiences so that people can make informed decisions. I may have been the anomaly so maybe giving the benefit of doubt is in order, good luck.

Mr. Garret completed the gutter work without issue. He did called to say that he was coming to complete the door work on four different occasions and did not show up. On the fifth time he said he was coming, he could not get in the gate at our gated community but failed to use the contact information written at the top of the contract, which he stated he did have with him when he attempted to come to the house, to contact me for entrance into the property. On the sixth time that he attempted to complete the work he started the project and found that the door had more rot than initially thought, called me with that information and then left my house. When Mr. Garret called later to inform me about my choices for a door, he stated that he was not sure when he would be able to finish the job. I told him if he could not finish the job the next day then he could send me a bill and I would find someone else to do the work. Mr. Garret went on to tell me that I, like all of the other people in Carolina Trace was just an a^%$$$le. I thanked him for his time, asked him for a bill and hung up. Mr. Garret charged me $45 for a "trip charge" when he could not get in the gate and after verbally quoting me $350 dollars for the gutter work, charged me $977. When I looked at my initial quote, nothing was itemized, there was only a total at the bottom for all services to be performed. Mr. Garret showed up at my house two days after I received my bill in the mail and threatened to "rip the gutters off of my house if I didn't pay him by the following Wednesday". Unfortunately my husband hired this man the day before he left for an 8 month deployment and I was left to deal with the aftermath. Now, a month after we hired Mr. Garret at The Window King I have a partially removed brick molding and still have rotten door frames.
Description of Work: Mr. Garret was hired to clean the gutters, apply gutter covers, replace partially rotten door frames on two doors. He completed the gutter cleaning and the gutter covers.
