SEARS

Estimator appeared on schedule and did some outside measurements from the ground. He did not climb on the roof, unlike the others who provided me with an estimate. He then walked me through a canned presentation beginning with the history of Sears and Roebuck, the Sears building in Chicago, etc. He did a good job of explaining the warranty of the products, their approach, etc. He told me not to bother replacing the skylights; they looked ok to him. He calculated his quote - and then started with the discounts, which could be had as cash, or else a larger amount of 'Sears money' that could be used to purchase other goods/services from Sears within a short period of time. The quote was at least double that of other roofers - also highly rated on Angies' list. And that didn't include the replacement skylights, which the others did. When I shared the other quote with him, he was sure that they must have missed something, so we went through the offerings, piece by piece. The biggest difference seemed to be Sears offering to return, if needed, for additional magnet sweeping of the landscape. Based on my research, I learned that the 20 plus year old skylights really do need to be replaced. Today's products are much better, reducing the heat that enters in the summer. The old ones have also probably lost most of the 'gas' and hence their efficiency. Sears did a good job of following up - although it's all through a call center. I chose to go with a professional who does skylights/sun tunnels and another roofer. Once the job is complete, I'll write them up.

The repair went smoothly. The repairman (Cory) even showed up 15 minutes early! He was very knowledgeable of the product and replaced the switch nicely. He took care not to rip or scratch my kitchen floor. Cory was very professional, friendly and a pleasure to deal with. So far Sears has not let me down. I truly appreciate their products and service.

The gentleman who came out was very knowledgeable and very fast. He seemed very trustworthy as well.
