Description of Work: It was a Big Deal for 50% off outdoor fall cleanup, leaf removal and shrub trimming. I had a lot of overgrown shrubs, and he cut them down to size and also hauled them off to the landfill. This required a few different trips.

+ -1 moreIt worked out fine. They came out and did it for only a couple of hours and they were not able to finish because it was only like so many hours worth of leaf removal. I didn’t have any issues with them and nothing stood out.

+ -1 moreWhen he first got there he said it was to far of a drive and said that he was going to need more money. The job was to blow the leaves up and put mulch down. He blew leaves into the lake and ended up covering other leaves with mulch. Asked for more money and when I refused he drove off squealing tires.

+ 0 moreHe is a member of Angie’s List, but I have also used his services before. His price was very competitive, and it was something that I could afford to do. If I need to, I mostly definitely use him again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Phil Hargraves of All American Landscaping, Salisbury. He came up to fertilize and re seed my yard in November of 2011. He did some insulation too. He blew with a blower to put some insulation in the attic. He threw out some old dilapidated insulation installed the wrong way under the flooring in the crawlspace of my house.

+ 0 morePhil was very friendly and responsive when we were first discussing the work. He came out and completed the work. My husband and I liked some of what he did but we felt overall that it did not look clean, finished and professional. We then chose not to continue with Phil's company. He seemed very angry about this and acted very unprofessional. We never did receive the results of our soil test even though I asked many times. When two of the bushes he planted started to die I contacted him so he could come out and have a look. It took awhile to get a response. He said he had to check the warranty and get back to me. Weeks went by with no response. Then two more bushes began to die. I contacted him again and still no response. I did some of my own investigating by asking other nurseries and landscaping companies about their warranties. They do a year or more and were shocked that Phil hadn't just come out and replaced the bushes. I sent one final email and I received a very rude response. In it he claims that his warranty expires 6 months after planting the bushes and if he doesn't take care of them then it's not his problem. Of course, this was news to me since he never mentioned it when planting the bushes or in any of his other emails. The back and forth went on for months. A total of six of the bushes he planted died. I would definitely NOT recommend this company. He does not stand behind his work and he refused to do the right thing and come out and replace the bushes.
Description of Work: Trimmed trees,bushes and shrubs. Removed the dead shrubs. Laid down pine needles in all of our natural areas. Tested our soil. Redesigned the natural areas in our front yard.

+ -1 moreAt first, everything looked great. The sod looked great, but the re-seeding didn't really take. Then I returned from a business trip and found that Phil had not mowed the lawn for at least 2 weeks - it was very long and looked terrible. As soon as I asked he came out and mowed it. Unfortunately, Phil once again stopped mowing. By the first week of June I hired someone else and told Phil his services were no longer necessary. The lawn looked terribly, the shurbs are all overgrown again, and the trees and shrubs that he was supposed to remove and kill are growing again. Despite not at least mowing the lawn in May, Phil expects to be paid $125 for the entire month of May, as if he had mowed it. Admittedly I have no contract with All American Landscaping requiring them to mow the lawn. But that also means I should not have to pay All American Landscaping for failing to do their job. I also would have expected the re-seeded areas to grow something.
Description of Work: I hired Phil to re-sod and reseed the front and backyards, as well as to trim the shrubs and remove other shrubs and a tree. After this initial landscaping project, Phil was supposed to routinely mow the lawn, every week, or every other week.

+ -1 moreThis Big Deal did not work out for us, and we'd like our money back. Neither Angie's List nor All American Landscaping did the right thing -- and it has always been my experience that Angie's List is the conflict resolution expert. This Deal has changed my mind about that. We purchased two of the Big Deals to have our yard cleaned of fall leaves. All American repeatedly missed appointments without calling. They offered a multiplicity of excuses for not completing the work, and even now they refuse to return our calls. At the beginning of the year, the owner said he had not performed the service because he had death in the family. The owner advised me to contact Angie's List for a refund. Angie's List refused to return our money, insisting that we would have to "lodge a complaint against the vendor by giving the company a rating of C, D, or F on at least one category." I told the Angie's List agents I spoke with that it would not be fair for me to give the company a C, D, or F because of a death. Certainly no one can anticipate or prevent such a tragedy. I simply wanted the refund so we could hire another company to take care of the leaves. Now it's February and our front yard is still full of leaves. All American came out once and did the back yard. They promised to return, but have not -- neither will they even return our calls. Can we have our money back now?!?
Description of Work: We paid for two Big Deals to have fall leaves removed.

+ 1 moreThey called a week ahead and said that the weather was too bad and it was too cold to do the work. I cancelled and got a refund. I won't use them again. They were fine when they came out to do the estimate. They were punctual when they came out to look at it but they never came back and never called to reschedule. It was a coupon deal.
Description of Work: I contacted All American Landscaping and they came out to look at the work. I wanted them to remove all the leaves and trim four trees.

+ 1 moreI have a huge oak tree in the front yard and a large natural area in the back yard. These areas are hard to clear of leaves and debris, and I needed professional help. I jumped at the Angie's List deal offered in October. The problem for me is that the big white oak is very slow in dropping leaves, dropping leaves from October to January. So, we scheduled the work for January. The snow obviously makes leaf removal hard, and leaves that are wet are obviously hard to remove. All-American had to reschedule due to weather a couple of times, but they threw in some extra hedge trimming to make up for that--which was not something that was under their control anyway. They were clear about what they would do and what they would not do for the deal--it was made clear to me for example that leaf removal was not part of the deal--only getting them to the curb. The only issue I had with this was that the pile covered the sidewalk. But since I had to bag them anyway, it wasn't such a big deal; I just did that first. I was perfectly happy with this work, especially since he came out twice before doing the work to be clear about what needed doing and what did not need doing. He communicated clearly and was easy to work with.
Description of Work: Clearing of leaves in numerous planting beds, trimming of laurel hedges and Nandina hedges.

+ 0 moreI tried to scheduled leaf removal from the big deal on Angies List in September. I called for an app't twice during the fall. They said they were too busy and to call back after Christmas. I did and then they told me that they don't cover my area in Charlotte (never mentioned in the Big Deal), and that they would call back the next day to refund my money. They never called back and I don't know to whom to give the F - the company for their unresponsiveness, or Angie List for not making it clear where this service would not be scheduled. Angie's List did return my money, but it's been 4 months with piles of leaves.

+ -1 moreNot well...please see previous remarks. Communication was horrible and not what I expect from a company on Angie's List. Never once did the provide contact me directly to apologize or discuss. Would NOT recommend this company.
Description of Work: This company posted a BIG DEAL on Angie's List that was promoted to the Charlotte area. I purchased the deal in August for leaf removal and winter clean up. Once all the leaves had fallen, I contacted the provider to do the job that I paid for four months earlier. We scheduled a date and time only to have the provider "no show". I called to see where they were later in the day only to be told that it was too cold for their equipment and that they would need to reschedule. I was also told that they contacted me and left a message...this was a blatant lie as there was no message. Ironically, one week later, I received an email from Angie's List stating that -- FOUR MONTHS LATER -- I fall outside of this providers service area and would be receiving a refund. WHAT?!?! After sitting on my money for 4 months, making an appointment, expecting to receive the service and NOW I'm "outside of your service area"?!?! When I contacted Angie's List to express my dissatisfaction and frustration, they shared the following: "For the Deal, we send out a ‘zoning survey’ to all service providers that run a Big Deal asking them to let us know exactly what zip codes and areas of town they can service, and we send the Big Deal email to all of our members that fall within that zone. All American Landscaping returned their survey saying they could service the entire market." Obviously, this provider is completely unreliable and not someone I would trust. I question their business ethics and overall integrity.

+ 0 moreI called and made the appt about 2-3 weeks in advance to make sure most of the leaves had fallen off the trees. I had not heard anything from them, so I called the morning of the appt to find out what time they would be arriving so I could be here. I was told after lunch and hung up. He called back a little later to confirm my name and address. They arrived as scheduled and were well into the leaf blowing when I came home. It was disturbing to me when he asked when I had made my appt, as he had no record of it, if I hadn't called, I guess he wouldn't have showed up. My biggest complaint is that as he was asking me where I wanted all the leaves and I thought they would be bagged or carried away, he said that they don't bag with the coupon. It did not say that anywhere in the fine print or large print for that matter and what kind of deal is that when you reduce your price for a promotion and then exclude some of the services? I could have certainly taken our own leaf blower and taken care of the leaves myself.
Description of Work: It was from a Big Deal it was supposed to be fall clean up: blew leaves in one big pile and pruned 5 shrubs.

When I moved here this summer, they were ready to take on new business and not because they were scrambling for it or whether or not they were booked. The weekly rate has been $35. They have been invoicing for a month and a half which is reasonable.
Description of Work: I have used the services of All American Landscaping for weekly maintenance of my yard including trimming, mowing and put away things for me. He also does soil test as I had fungus on one of my trees.

+ 0 moreMy home is white siding. There was mildew on the white brick foundation. The whole house needed to be pressured washed including driveway, sidewalk and front porch. Weeds had grown up in flower beds, under and around the deck, and under the bushes around the house. The deck railing was mildewed.There was cherry bushes and other bushes that needed to be removed. The deck and railing needed to be painted. The work shop also needed to be pressured washed. There is big trees around it and it was a mess on the outside. Every thing was completed in a professional manner. The house and yard is clean and beautiful. I was very pleased with the completion of the work. I would defintely recommend All American Landscaping.
Description of Work: House, driveway, sidewalk, deck, front porch, and work shop pressured washed. Deck painted. Bushes removed. Flowers planted, Mulch placed under remaining bushes around the whole house. Weeds were pulled in flower beds. White rock put down in flower beds.

Anytime that we had to discuss changes in the service, they were understanding and willing to change to meet our needs. They have helped us transform our landscaping over the years and it keeps getting better with each and every visit.
Description of Work: This past service was maintence with cutting the grass and weed control. They also trimmed some hedges and removed a tree that I no longer wanted. They put away the logs from the tree removal, cleaned up all the debris and asked if there was anything else we needed done. We have had them taking care of our grass and landscaping for almost two years now and we have been pleased with each service.

Description of Work: The owner of the company came out to our house and gave us an estimate to put sod on our entire yard. He quoted us a price and did exactly what he quoted. It took a week to do the entire yard and he was here before the sun came up and did not leave until the sun went down. He was very curtious and friendly to us. He explained everything and always made sure we were happy with the work. WE were so happy with him he is maintaining the yard and doing a very good job.
