We had a 26 foot truck we rented from Penske loaded. The guys who loaded the truck, Jerry and Mike, wrapped each piece of furniture in the moving blankets and taped the blankets securely. They shrink-wrapped the cloth couches and put the mirrors and pictures in cardboard moving boxes. We drove the truck ourselves to PA. Every piece of furniture arrived in PA (460 mile trip) without any damage at all. It was raining the day we unpacked in PA and because each piece of furniture was wrapped so well the furniture did not get wet during unloading. I really liked Jerry and Mike. They were personable and efficient. Doug, the owner of the company, shared a lot of helpful information with me over the phone about preparing for the move. Doug is knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and honest. I highly recommend this company. Hints: The Penske rental blankets are really about half the size of a queen blanket. Penske recommended 4-5 dozen for a 26 foot truck. I recommend ordering more than you expect you will need. Penske estimated 12mpg of diesel fuel for the 26 foot truck but we only averaged about 8mpg. I recommend planning accordingly. You will need to purchase a padlock to lock the truck and a racket set(ask Doug) to hold the furniture in place. We got both from Lowe's

Although it was just a small job Doug Handshoe, owner/manager, treated the move and my questions in a most professional manner. He worked with me to schedule the move based on our schedule. His crew called to confirm the move that morning. They were not only punctual but efficient, curteous and most professional. I would not hesitate to call Doug should a larger household move be needed in the future.

Although I was not able to use A-1 Moving, I did speak to Doug and actually considered paying the extra that it would cost me to use him, just based on his willingness to help. Even knowing that I'd probably not be utilizing his services, he urged me to call him, without hesitation, with any questions I may have concerning a move. Doug also cautioned me about a couple of items to address BEFORE signing any contracts and repeated his willingness to assist me in any way that he could. He told me that he probably wouldn't be able to service our needs cheaper than one of the local (larger) companies but thanked me, none the less, for the opportunity

Our belongings did well on the way to Florida. Everything was well wrapped and protected. We provided our own moving pads because we were moving out of state. We were also able to purchase wardrobe boxes - which were a lifesaver for packing - directly from them, and, they brought them the morning of the move. The were done in about three hours.
Description of Work: The entire crew from A1 was wonderful. From the time I called to schedule the move until the time the last of the MANY boxes were loaded on to the back of our 26-foot truck, we couldn't have been happier. We hired them to load our belongings into the moving truck. They also then moved some other furniture out to our garage to be sold.

We chose A-1 because they received stellar ratings on Angie's List, and we were very happy with our choice. From the beginning Doug was thorough, responsive, and very professional- he came to our house to give us an estimate. Rather than give a low estimate to try to get our business, he was very honest in saying that he would rather have us know the actual time it would take than underestimate the quote. After we scheduled a tentative date for the move he called me to follow-up and confirm the move. The workers were professional and packed the truck quickly- nothing was damaged during the move. They finished faster than we expected, and we finished well under budget. We'll definitely use them if we move again. They showed us that they deserve the Angie's List rating they have.

Several weeks before my in-town move, Mr. Handshoe came to my house to give an estimate. He kept in contact with me over the next few weeks. The day of the move, 3 men arrived ON TIME, looked around my house while I gave commentary and instructions for about 10 minutes. They backed the huge truck into my driveway and got to work immediately. It was an extremely hot day but these 3 men worked non-stop except for water breaks. I had a lot more boxes than I originally thought I would have but they did not complain!The entire move took about 7 hours. These men were friendly (but NOT inappropriate) and extremely hard working. I did not hear ONE curse word the entire day!!!! They were extremely knowledgeable about packing a 26 foot truck and nothing was broken or bent.They had to take the furniture up a flight of stairs with 2 turns and they did that very well!At the last minute, I decided that I did not want to keep my old piano, which was falling apart, and for $100 more, they were able to take it to the dump.I believe that the $120 an hour for 3 hard-working and professional men was WORTH EVERY PENNY!! There were no hidden fees.

I am extremely satisfied with the service I got with this company! I had to get my belongings out of my house by a certain date, and I called last minute and they made it happen for me. It was the end of the month and a holiday (4th of July week) too, so I was incredibly grateful that they could work me into the schedule. They were always very punctual!! I can't thank them enough for all the good work they did for me. I am VERY impressed by this company. I definitely recommend them, and I will absolutely use them in the future when I need to move again!!

I called A1 for a quote a couple of weeks ago and instantly knew that I would probably go with them after speaking with Doug. He was very patient in answering all of my questions and was very thorough in explaining their process, next steps, etc. I called Doug back and scheduled our move. He called me the day before our move and again the morning of our move just to confirm everything. The movers were scheduled to arrive at 11:00am and showed up promptly at 10:59am. They were worked efficiently and were very careful with our stuff (on what turned out to be the hottest day in Greensboro this year so far….94 degrees). They were able to load about 95% of the items in our 3,000 sq/ft house and unload everything into our new home in about 7 hours. I was very impressed. I was not expecting them to be able to get that much of our stuff onto a 26 ft U-Haul truck. I would definitely recommend A1 Moving and I would definitely use them again.

All I can say is I am stunned! The professionalism of A-1 Moving has way surpassed my expectations. I found them here on Angie's List and gave them a call. I had Doug come out to give us an estimate, which including a low number (we move some stuff on our own), and a high number (they move everything). Cost was a big factor to us, so we moved a lot of boxed stuff on our own, but the rest A-1 moved with extreme professionalism. Doug was very honest about cost and we hired him because his rates were very reasonable. The morning of the move Day 1, I had a 4 guy crew show up promptly and got to work immediately. Not only were these guys fast, but they were very careful! The only time they slowed down was after about 4 hours in the hot 90 NC sun, but who can blame them? They dissembled several rooms of large heavy furniture, and packed everything up safely in about 6 hours and loaded into onto their truck. We also have a lot of heavy Halloween Props that needed to be moved that were heavy and fragile, and no problems there. Every step of the way the move was done to our requests. The morning of the move Day 2, they again showed up promptly and unpacked all of our stuff in about 6 hours, and 99% was undamaged. I did take the optional moving insurance, but only because of my past experience with other movers. The only 2 items that were damaged was a 15 year old computer desk made out of particle board (cheaply made and moved 3 times so not their fault) and a small nick it my son's foot board on his bed (which I plan on refinishing anyway because of baby teeth marks). The crew offered to fix the computer desk, but it was so old and broken in previous moves I told them it wasn't necessary. They even brought a furniture touch up kit to fix some scratches on the furniture, some that were even there before the move! I never plan on moving again, but if I did I would use them in a second. I called my Realtor and recommended them too. I have used All My Sons in the past before twice, and there is no comparison! I even stocked my fridge with drinks for them, and they brought their own! I had to buy my last 2 movers lunch! Not hey can I get you something to be nice, they asked "so what are we doing for lunch?-both times!!" These guys were great, all very nice and down to earth, and treated our stuff like it was their own. They not only helped us move our stuff, they helped move a heavy futon mattress into a van so we could sleep at our brother's house that night, and then moved it into the new house the next day. One of the guys even pulled my recycle bin to the curb at the new house since it was packed full and didn't want to miss the pick up as the truck was coming by since I was dealing with 2 other utility guys while they were moving us in! Do not go anywhere else besides A-1 Movers, you will not be disappointed! I wish I used them on my other moves!

I called A1 after looking at their reviews on Angie's List. I was nervous just to go by the recommendation of people I didn't know, but they didn't disappoint. I called Doug (Doug and Mike are co-owners) and he was helpful from the start. On two occasions guys came to take a look and estimate the time it would take. Doug estimated the price within $20. He was very good at explaining the process and letting me know about all of the precautions they take to keep furniture and floors safe. They even dropped off boxes and packing material at my home as well as allowed me to purchase used boxes at half price. On the day of the move they arrived exactly on time. They were very professional and efficient. They were careful with all of the furniture they moved onto the truck. That afternoon they even moved a couple of beds off the truck so we could sleep in the new house that same night. The next day the guys came back again on time and proceeded to unpack the truck. In the process there was a small scratch made in the wood floor (not surprising given that the majority of the heavy furniture was going upstairs). The impressive thing was that within 10 minutes of bringing it to Mike's attention he had an appointment made for someone to come and fix it within the week (floor has already been fixed and looks great). I was amazed at how concerned they were with getting everything right, making sure we were satisfied and even following up with us after the move. I have already started telling people that they should use A1 movers.

I called A1 to help with moving an in-home caregiver for my parents who we had to let go whether quickly. Not only were they kind and compassionate regarding the delicate matter I was dealing with, but extremely professional. We talked several times on the phone and their willingness to ensure my satisfaction was unbelievable. They went out of their way to make sure I could pick up used boxes at a discounted price. Wonderful people to deal with. The caregiver decided to do the move herself after all. I called A1 and had to cancel. Once again, they were extremely kind and understanding. My husband originally wanted to use a pod to handle our local move. After reading some horror stories and then reading A-1's reviews on Angie's List, we decided to give A-1 a call. After talking to Doug and getting his hourly rate for 4 guys to handle loading and unloading, we decided to go with A-1. We could not have been happier. Mike and three others showed up right on time the day of the move (Our original move date was a month earlier but was delayed due to problems with our buyer's loan. A-1 had no issues with the reschedule.) I was still sealing some boxes when they arrived. They started right away and barely stopped for lunch. They brought free boxes for moving the TV's and garment boxes for the closets. They loaded all of these. You never would have known they were being paid by the hour. Our schedule was to load the day before closing and then have the guys come back and drive to the new house and unload right after the 11:00 closing. Our buyers loan package was held up and the closing was delayed. We found this out after the truck was loaded and the guys gone. We called Mike after 9:00 that night and, since we did not know what time the next day the close would happen, he rescheduled the move to the day after we closed. There was a slight storage fee since we were tieing up the truck for an additional day but it was minimal. Our close ended up happening after 5:00 pm so the reschedule worked out perfectly. Mike and the same crew returned right on time and at the same time we got the key to the new house. Some final items were loaded and they drove to the new house The unloading went very quickly. It had rained fairly hard the day the truck set and one of the boxes got a little wet. Mike was extremely apologetic and offered to have the few wet items dry cleaned at their expense (and the items were only a little damp). While the crew was fast and efficient, they were also careful. They even put felt on the bottom of furniture to protect the hardwood. Nothing was damaged in the move. In prior moves, the crews started talking about a tip before the job was half done. A-1's guys never mentioned a tip. We decided to give them one since they were so fast, careful and friendly. And they handled part of the move in the rain and never complained. When they got the tip they were surprised and appreciative. Our experience with A-1 was nothing but positive. Affordable and professional. We highly recommend them for moving services.

On the scheduled date it poured rain and they were able to change our move (along with others who wanted to avoid moving in the rain) to the next day. Doug alerted us that the furniture pads available from the rental company would be too thin to properly protect the furniture. His crew used their superior padding on the furniture and everything arrived in Nashville in impeccable shape. The movers, who helped unload on that end, noted how professionally the truck was packed. Doug is justifiably proud of his staff which have many years of professional packing experience. I highly recommend them.

I initially spoke with one of the owners, Doug, who was very helpful and knowledgable. On the morning of the move, Doug, his son Mike, (who is a co-owner of the company), and the rest of the A1 guys arrived on time. They were extremely careful in packing, moving and loading our items. It's been a little over a month since my move, but I didn't want to neglect reviewing A1 Moving. When I first called Doug, I was very apprehensive about what I might encounter. I had used a different company for my previous move (4 years earlier), and had vivid memories of the damage that was done to my furniture (which they refused to pay for). Because I didn't want to repeat that experience, I decided to sign up for Angie's List to see if I could find a reputable mover that wouldn't damage my furniture. If you've logged on looking for the same thing, you no doubt have seen the stellar reviews earned by A1 Moving. I saw them too, and decided to give them a call, talk for a bit, and compare them to one or two other possibilities. When I called Doug, he was very polite, and he initially gave me an estimate over the phone - based on what I told him I had. He also explained the care that his movers take to wrap furniture to ensure that it is not damaged during the move process. Finally, he indicated that he would be onsite for at least part of the move, and that the other co-owner, his son Mike, would be there for the entire process. I was pleased, but I still wanted to call other outfits to compare price and approach. I did call another mover whose name I got from Angie's list, and they also sounded reasonable. In the end, though, I decided to go with A1. I was a little apprehensive about the price - given that I also needed to have packing done - but I decided that undamaged furniture was more important to me in the end than saving a few bucks. I called Doug back, and he said that he could come by my place to give me another estimate. We set up a time, and he arrived on schedule. He explained the price for packing materials (boxes, wrap, etc...) as well as the price for the move itself. He also estimated the amount of time that the move would take - stating that he tended to err on the high side to avoid any claims that a customer was misled. I agreed to the price, and told him I would call him when I definitely knew the final date of the move. Sometime later, I called back with the date, and we were good to go. One of the things that greatly impressed me about A1 actually happened before the move: I am a night-owl, and one night I called Doug with a question about the upcoming move. It must have been past 10:00pm, and I fully expected to be greeted by a voicemail message. Imagine my surprise when Doug answered the phone. When he heard how incredulous I was,.he told me that A1 has 24 hour emergency service. I was very impressed, as I have learned over time that one of the things that makes a stellar vendor is accessibility. On the day of the move, Doug and the crew arrived a little late - due to the fact that their truck had broken down. Doug called me early that morning, though, to make sure I was aware of the situation, and to give their ETA. They arrived right when they said they would, and immediately began to assess what needed to be done (they started the clock upon their actual arrival). On site were Doug, Mike, and 3 other men. Since they were being paid by the hour, I decided to help with the packing to save some money, and they were perfectly fine with that. They helped me to move boxes that I'd packed if they were too heavy for me, and were always very professional. The one small complaint that I had occurred during the packing process: I was moving from a gated community which is sometimes tricky to get in and out of. Soon after their arrival, the guys went back downstairs to move their truck to a better spot for loading, and were unable to get back into the complex because of the gates. They ended up encountering one of the managers - who opened the gate for them - but the process took about 1/2 hour. They obviously couldn't work during that time, since they were locked out, but they did not deduct the time from the total at the end of the move, and it was included in the price. In the grand scheme of things, this is really a nit, but it did increase the total cost of the move by a non-trivial amount - owing to the price that was charged per hour. But that aside, after they were able to get back inside the building, they rolled up their sleeves and went to work. They were extremely careful in their packing - wrapping all of the large pieces of furniture in shrinkwrap, and using packing paper for delicate items such as dishes. They used special boxes for all of my glassware, and were extremely careful with my electronics (computers, televisions, etc...). When possible, they used my own pillows to provide packing for some items - thus saving money while still keeping things safe in the process. I was very impressed with the care that they took, as they treated my furniture as if it were their own. I was also extremely impressed with the knowledge that one of the movers - Cliff - had when it came to furniture. Turns out he fixes furniture on the side, and he gave me quite a few suggestions on how to spruce up some of the worn areas on my pieces. He and the others also suggested the use of felt pads to protect the wood floors in the place I would be moving to, and that turned out to be excellent advice. Doug's high-end estimate on the move time turned out to be accurate, as we had to make a stop at a storage facility to pick up another item of mine for the move. Needless to say, it was a very long day. But everyone was always professional, and when we pulled up to the destination of the move, the guys got to work immediately unpacking the truck. They asked where all of the items should go in the new place, and I appreciated that (it helped me to locate where things were long after the movers were gone). They also took great care not to scar walls or floors when carrying in large pieces of furniture. A1 really showed their expertise during the last part of the day, on two separate pieces of furniture: The first was a desk that I've had for years. Mike and Cliff realized that they wouldn't be able to get it in the house as it was (because of its shape), and they literally took it apart and brought it in in pieces. Once inside, they put it back together again prefectly. And they did all this quite quickly. The second bit of heroics came at the end of the night, when they were trying to move in the last piece - a very long dresser that had to go in the master bedroom. Unfortunately, because of some tricky angles, it looked for some time like it would be impossible to get the piece into the room. Three of the guys were attempting to turn it just the right way, but it just wouldn't go inside without possibly scarring a wall or a corner. Everyone stood back and scratched their heads for awhile - making suggestions. They decided to remove the drawers to see if that would help, but it still looked impossible. At this point, Mike was telling me that it wouldn't go, and I was losing hope. There were no other rooms that could accommodate this piece. It's a dresser, and it has to go in the master bedroom. Not willing to give up, the three guys tried one more time, and they were able to turn the piece at just the right angle to sneak it into the room with just a millimeter or so to spare. Needless to say, I was extremely impressed and thankful. Later, when I told the story to friends, they mentioned that they had had similar issues with one or two pieces during their move, and their movers had simply solved the problem by scarring both their furniture and walls to get past the tricky spots. A1 was able to do the job without leaving a single mark on a single wall or floor, or on my dresser. So all in all, I was extremely pleased with the job that A1 did. If you are looking for professional, knowledgeable movers who will treat your gear as if it was their own, you should definitely contact A1. They are a first rate company.
Description of Work: A1 movers had quite a job on their hands with me, as I not only required moving, but packing also. Additionally, the move required a stop at a storage facility to load up and transport another piece of furniture.

I called up Doug, the owner, to get a quote. I was a little dismayed by the price but it was not astronomical and after seeing the competence of the moving crew I was satisfied that I had received value for my money. Doug also helped me out on the price by giving me a military discount. I am ALWAYS greatful when an individual or business expresses gratitude in any fashion for those of us who have chosen to serve. After calling a few more movers I went back to Doug at A-1 and went with him. He promised professionalism from his bonded, insured employees and they delivered. The men arrived on time, calling first to ensure that we were ready. They were business-like but friendly and did everything that we requested of them, including moving a huge king-sized bed from the upstairs bedroom downstairs and setting it back up and moving a piano down three flights of stairs and into the truck. They were not afraid to get dirty and took great care with all of our belongings. If I need help moving in the future and Fayetteville is not too far for them to travel, I would be willing to pay the extra money necessary to have this company pack my furniture again. Set it up [with very little notice] with Doug who was super accomodating. His son Mike showed up with three helpers at the appointed time and did a superb job. When it turned out I underestimated the amount of work it was, they arranged to come back the next day with no fuss; amazing. Soper guys, helped pack some of my stuff, I drove all the way cross country, and except for one dent due to a strap being a bit too tight, there wasn't a scratch on anyhting! I highly recommed A1, they are super.
Description of Work: Needed experienced movers to do some packing and to load up my Penske rental truck to move from NC to OR.

Mike and his crew were friendly and hard working. They were able to get the truck unloaded in a little over two hours despite it being very hot that day. The price was fair and Doug, Mike and his crew were a pleasure to work with. We will not hesitate to call A-1 Moving in the future for all our moving needs. Description of Work: My daughter and her family were moving to Winston-Salem from Atlanta on Monday, Aug.1. They had help loading a 26 foot Penske truck in Atlanta and realized that it would be impossible to unload the truck in Winston-Salem the next day. They were very tired, she was sick and they have two small children. In a panic she called me on Monday, Aug.1st looking for help to unload the truck in Winston-Salem the next morning Aug. 2nd. I told her I would do what I could to find help but I wasn't optimistic as I had very little advance notice and I lived in Cary, NC. I was already a member of Angie's List in Cary and I immediately added Winston-Salem to my account. I called two companies and left messages but they never called me back. Lifting up a prayer I called Doug at A-1 Moving and he couldn't have been nicer. He offered to send his son Mike with a crew to help us out despite the short notice.

They arrived right on time after keeping s update multipletimes about their arrival. They sent plenty of guys who were all very friendly. They planned out the Best way to get the armoire down and did a very expeditious job, finished in about 30 minutes. And they even took a different dresser back upstairs for us! Also, they will come by and pick up all your empty boxes and packing paper when you are done unpacking!
Description of Work: A very delicate, 100-year-old armoire (77x67x25") was moved from our second floor, down windy stairs to the first floor. Because it wouldn't fit down the stairs, they disassembled the whole thing and put it back together perfectly at the end.
