The process from start to finish was pleasing. After debating on who to call to actually do the work, I was referred to this contractor by a local homebuilder. I personally went to observe the roofing work of said contractor and it was very good. So I called him and asked him to come give me an estimate. By the way, this was the lowest estimate that I received. I was pleased with the numbers and scheduled him. He completed the job and it turned out beautiful. I couldn't be more satisfied with my new roof!!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: The contractor ordered the shingles, nails and venting. Approximately 2 days later arrived to begin removing the old roofing and replace a couple of bad plywood sheets. The same day the roof was covered with tar paper as it was too late to begin on the new roof. The contractor was not punctual on this day for unknown reasons. The next day the new roof began to be installed. The front half was completed leaving the back side undone. The next day three-fourths of the back was completed until the shingles ran out, due to underestimation of product needed. The contractor had to order several more bundles to complete the work. This took another day.

There's nothing to add here since the company didn't do any work.
Description of Work: Please ignore the date entered above. This system requires a date even though the company did not perform any service! I think that's a system flaw. I called this company twice to have them look at the roof and give me an estimate. They didn't even have the decency to call back! After 2 tries I take my business elsewhere. Non-responsiveness tells me more about a company than any reference could.

I began by looking in the yellow pages for roofing services after receiving the check from my insurance company. I wasn't sure who to call as I had obtained no personal references. So I went online to search for recommended roofing companies in my area. Up pops Service Magic, Sears and a metal roofing company. Not five minutes afterward I received a call from Sears seeking a consultation for which I made an appointment the following week. The salesman from Sears was early for the appointment, which I didn't mind. He was very thorough and considerate, not to mention professional. I knew before he finished that the estimate would be way more than I could afford for all the services involved. And it was. I did not want to go into debt for a new roof. So I respectfully declined. Afterward I called one of the local roofing companies to come and give me an estimate. He came the next day and provided an estimate for his services. I asked him for references of his work and he provided that as well. I called a local construction company that he told me he had worked for for verification, which I received. Also, I went to a nearby housing development which was fairly new that he told me he had completed roofing work on. It looked great. So it was confirmed that this was the roofing company I would use. On the day the work was to be done, they showed up a couple of hours late (he said that he had to take a load of waste from a previous job to the landfill). After arriving they started working pretty quickly removing the old roof, replacing a couple of pieces of bad wood, applying new felt paper over the old felt paper. Then the two helpers began bringing the new material to the roof surface where the owner (nailer) began laying out the new shingles in pattern. He was pretty quick and proficient which I admired. He did NOT goof off at all, but he did have to chide one of his helpers a bit for being a little slack. The back side was completed except for one corner. The owner left to get the plywood that he needed, cut it to size to replace the bad pieces. Their work was interrupted a couple of times due to rain and an underestimation of shingles needed (2 bundles) but it was satisfactorily completed. The estimate total increased slightly due to the above but well within my expectation.
Description of Work: The old roof, shingles, nails and a couple of pieces of plywood which were bad was removed and new plywood installed. Then the surface was swept and cleaned before new felt paper was applied over the old felt paper. Tarp was laid on the ground under the roof edge where shingles were being removed to catch the old material and the nails. This worked greatly as I found very few nails afterward. Then the new roof was installed by the owner (he was the only nailer) but he was very proficient and knew very well what he was doing. His two helpers supplied the new material to the roof. Generally roofers only put four (4) nails in each shingle but I requested that he put five (5) nails in each shingle. This was after I received a consultation and estimate from one of the large retail companies that wanted to charge me twice as much as I paid. I learned a few things from that consultation. My request was honored. The old material was hauled away with absolutely no litter in my yard!!
