First of all I never give a bad review so if you're reading this you know this job had to be pretty bad for me to write about it. Marty Tudor and his assistant Andy Pittman were contracted in March 2016 to paint and replace flooring in 4 rooms plus a small hallway in my parents' home. My parents are 80 years old, my father has Alzheimer's and I was helping them manage this job. I thought the estimate was fair at 3750.00 for painting and then a per hour labor fee for the flooring job. There was also a bathroom that required extensive paint/patch included in the painting quote of 3750.00. Marty assured me several times that he would do the job to my specifications and that he would stick with the job until I was satisfied. Like a good girl I called three of his references and they said good things so I paid a deposit, scheduled the job and was told the job would take one week to complete. Work started a day late to start with and from the beginning Marty was very flustered and disorganized. The first part of the work was to remove old carpet and old subfloor and replace the subfloor with new plywood. It took 5 men 2 days to do the floor work, I felt it should have taken one day, maybe a day and a a half for 5 experience laborers. After the flooring portion was done the painting and repair to the bathroom started. The painting was contracted for two coats and I purchased good quality Sherwin Williams paint for the job. Marty and his crew painted for 3.5 days and after 3.5 days there was only one coat on the walls so thin you could see patches of the old paint behind it. The paint was also gritty and the semi-gloss was not shiny which I had planned to speak with him about. After the initial 3.5 days of painting Marty had to leave so that the flooring could go in (he was supposed to be finished by then even after having me push the floor installation back a day since he started a day late) and he was supposed to return 3 days after he left to finish the paint and bathroom job. At that point the bathroom was a disaster with chunky bondo in the door frame, wall paint overpainted onto the ceiling, one very thin coat of paint on the wall, lots of pits in the walls that needed more spackling, smeary semi-gloss on the cabinets and no paint on the trim. He broke a light when he was trying to remove the decorative cap to paint around it and told me he didn't fell like it was his responsibility to replace it because it was so old and in poor condition yet it was fine before he touched it. There was also lots of overspray on furniture and light fixtures and they purposely sprayed paint into the light switches and sockets. When I asked Marty why did he do that he said Andy thought it would look better, Andy said it was Marty's idea. I asked them to remove the paint from the switches and sockets but it was never removed and it now will not come off. We had an electrician estimate that it would cost 575.00 to replace all the switches and sockets that were sprayed. I never saw Marty or spoke to him again even after numerous attempts to contact him. He later texted me that if I could wait until Thursday (another week later!) that he would return to finish the job (sure). To this date neither Marty nor Andy have spoken with me. From the start you could tell that Marty and Andy did not get along and they blamed each other for mistakes that I found. If I pointed something out to Marty he said it was Andy's fault and if I pointed something out to Andy he said it was Marty's fault. Marty is ultimately the owner of the company and he did not fulfill his contract or meet his obligations. Andy was always late to the job and evasive. Marty was always complaining to me about Andy's behavior on the job which is totally unprofessional to involve the homeowner in labor issues. Marty insisted on being paid out after the first 4 days of work for the flooring job. He demanded payment of 5472.00 for the floor labor (I paid for the materials). He then worked additional 1.5 days and when he left so that we could put in the new floors he took all of his equipment and demanded another payment of 3075.00 plus he said when he came back to finish the job we would owe him another 500.00. He also never provided me with receipts for the flooring materials he purchased even after I asked for them. After he failed to return I did some digging and found that he had diluted my nice paint with water so that it would go through his sprayer. I also never saw him vacuum any of the rooms prior to painting even after sawdust and sanding dust had inundated every square inch of the rooms. I suspect that the gritty paint is residue from his dirty sprayer or sawdust/sanding dust. So after 5.5 days of work, 9747.00 labor and 800.00 in paint/replacing the light he broke/other materials plus time off from my job to constantly be out there to answer Marty's questions we were left with an poorly done and 80% completed job and no contractor. We ended up having to pay a sub contractor an additional amount to fix the paint that Mary ruined and to finish the bathroom job. I feel like Marty Tudor robbed my 80 year old parents, one of which is unwell with Alzheimer's, of their money and left them with a mess they then had to pay someone else more to fix. I don't know how much he paid his references to tell me good things but believe me his work and his work ethic are awful. Bottom line, Marty Tudor and his partner Andy Pittman are crooks who do crappy work, don't give them your money. I hate to leave bad reviews but I don't want someone else to get taken by these bandits.
Description of Work: Contracted to paint 4 rooms and a hallway, replace subfloor in 4 rooms and a hallway, wallpaper one bathroom and paint/refurbish walls in a second bathroom.
