The Mad Hatter Air Duct Cleaning & Chimney Sweep

It went great- all the explanation I wanted, clean and tidy, nice guys.

The crew arrived in a timely fashion and provided the services as required. Afterwards, it was apparent that my home was cleaner and the air fresher. They removed the vent covers and brushed and vacuumed each vent. The debris was vented through their tubes to an outside unit. The crew took special pains to cover their feet before entering my home each time they returned from the outdoors. Some furniture had to be moved to allow access to the vents. They took special care with my belongings and returned everything to its original location. Afterwards, we conducted a walk-through before they departed.

I used this company because it had an "A" rating from Angie's List - so am particularly distraught with the following result -- The appointment was today, having waited three weeks because it is high season, which is understandable. I moved most furniture out of the room where the fireplace is located because it is a light color and, although they said they covered furniture, I wanted to be safe. I understood the appointment was 3 PM (later I was reminded it was between 3 and 3:30 PM) and was supposed to receive a call notifying me before the workers arrived. Since I had not heard anything at 3:20 PM I called the office, no one answered so left a message. Given the lack of communication as well as my concern about damage to the home/furniture for the chimney sweep service, I called the office again at 3:25 PM, no one answered, left message asking for proof of insurance; said it could be emailed to me. Around 3:30 PM heard from the workers on their way to my home from Cary - I explained the desire to see the insurance and that I had left messages at their office; they said they did not have any insurance documentation. I asked that they come to do the dryer duct cleaning but was not sure about cleaning my fireplace. It was curious that after that conversation, I finally received a call from the Mad Hatter office - it seems the guys on the way to my home contacted their office about my request and that is when I received a response. The gentleman in the office was very nice but explained the workers nor he could provide insurance documentation. The workers arrived, cleaned the dryer air duct; were professional, kind and efficient. They charged $139. There was no paperwork that identified insurance coverage. In fact, the only paper aside form an invoice was the one I had to initial to agree no damage was done to the home/premises. Suspect that would mean if you found black dust on your furniture from the chimney sweep after they left they would not be liable --- which is why they did not clean my chimney. The duct cleaning was very good. The communication and transparency from the office was exceedingly poor. They used my limited time to prepare my home for their work, now will need to use this evening to return all the furniture because it will take weeks to get another chimney sweep to my home.

It was very quick. He discovered right away that there was a problem and that he couldn’t help me. He was very efficient and professional. He gave me as much information as he could about the problem. I don’t know as far as the type of service they provide; I didn’t use it. I can't say excellent because I don’t know what kind of work they do. They didn’t perform the service that I had engaged them to do. In terms of just their professionalism, they interacted really well. I was impressed, but I can't tell you what kind of service they provide since he didn’t do it. My interaction with him was very good. I had to pay the price that they charge for the service call. Their responsiveness and punctuality was excellent. They were there right away.

Ivory and Lance came around 9:30am, and left the house at 5:45pm. They worked hard cleaning and clearing out the vents and returns. The sanding of floors had recently been done, and the previous owner had several dogs. Their machines removed a ton of debris and dust. The stain (from the hardwood floors) had attached itself to debris, making their job labor intensive. Lots of sanitizing once the majority of work was done. Lance gave me a very thorough walk through, even through the crawl space. He gave some suggestions and potential 'heads-up' issues for the dryer vent (work that this company does not perform). Both men were polite and professional. The house smells cleaner, and we're looking forward (when we finally move in) to not getting headaches or allergic reactions. I would definitely use this company again.

They were a few minutes late but called to let me know that they would be late. I very much appreciated the call letting me know they were running a little behind. Once they arrived they were on the job and were extremely professional and easy to work with. They completed the service in a bout 30 minutes and left the house cleaner than when they arrived. I will be using this company again for my rental property. And I will recommend them to family and friends! Thanks Mad Hatter! -David

To be fair, I wasn't present when the technician came, but my mother-in-law was ... and she has a discerning eye & nose, both of which count with the end-product for this business. With Mad Hatter, you get a great quality job & excellent customer service. My hat is off to Jerry, who is the 1st person I spoke to on the phone (& coincidentally the owner): he has such great phone etiquette I really wanted to compliment him! I felt truly treasured by these folks & that is such a great feeling in today's society. I have other properties in need of duct cleaning & I will call them again, even if I feel they are a *smidge* on the pricey side. (Their quotes are pretty darn accurate though, so no complaints there whatsoever!)

These guys are great! We had them come out to clean the air ducts and vents in a condo that we lived in prior to renting it out when we moved into our new house. We had tried one of the "Air duct special: $49" companies. Felt like they were scamming us and kicked them out of the house. Glad I called the Mad Hatter. Their upfront price will probably be more than what the low cost advertisement companies will be, but they didn't try to upsell me anything. They did exactly what I wanted them to do and exactly what I paid them to do. The technician that came to my house (I wish I could remember his name!) had been there for years and clearly likes working for his company. He was a really nice guy. They had some pretty serious equipment too, this was far more than taking a vacuum hose to an air register! They laid down sheeting to protect the floors and to contain the mess that was coming out of my vents, which was appreciated. You wouldn't believe what came out of my vents. Stuff that belonged to the people that must've lived there before I did. Most notably, a softball. Probably explains why the heat and air was so bad in one of the rooms, the vent must have been almost completely clogged! Anyway, we're now in our new house. When the time comes to have the vents cleaned, there's only one company I'll call: the mad hatter. Thank you!

Crew showed up on time, was very courteous and paid close attention to details, such as covering areas they would be droping dust on. Thoroughly cleaned the ducts, got rid of a smell I had in my air conditioner that i could not get rid of. readjusted my dryer vent hose to improve efficiciency of the dryer. All in all they did top notch work!

I was very pleased with The Mad Hatter. Everyone I talked to at the company - Jerry, the owner; their office manager and the two gentlemen that performed the service were all very professional. Everything was explained to me thoroughly. They were here when they said they would be. The were efficient, and cleaned up beautifully. They did charge extra to clean the ash box - which was a surprise. But when I asked about it, they had a good reason - and it wasn't that much more. The only reason I didn't rate the price as Excellent is it's quite a lot for such a short period of time. But their pricing was very competitive.

I originally called because our dryer which was operating fine was under performing. It was taking twice as long to dry a load of clothes. I figured the vent must be clogged because we haven't cleaned in since we moved in 7 years ago. Well, the providers arrived 15 minutes ahead of time and were very professional. They had a hard time finding the outlet for the vent so they could thoroughly clean on both ends. Come to find out that the vent had no outlet! The dryer pipe was flush to the siding in the attic! Yikes! They cleaned the vent anyway and advised not to use the dryer until we cut a hole for the outlet.

I called because my wife has been congested and sneezy since we moved into our new house several weeks ago. While Internet sources are difficult to wade through and do a lot of warning about ensuring one picks a reputable firm, I used Angie's and picked these guys based on their reviews. I couldn't be more pleased with Kent and Brian's work and attention to detail. I called on a Thursday and had little detail when I called, but they gave me a ballpark estimate and said they'd confirm it with me when they showed up on the day to see if I was happy with the cost. Two days later, they showed up and we walked around the house for them to confirm the scope of work and the price (that he showed me on a sheet, so there was no "make it up as he went"). My system was sparkling afterwards (they showed me the before and after and it was rather bad). They also gave me some recommendations for how to better maintain my system that I'll definitely put into practice. I could have used their Angie's deal and got my chimney cleaned, but the guys said mine didn't need cleaning, so I used it for $50 off. Not many companies would have done that! They did what they said they'd do and my place was left clean. I'll do a follow-up and let you know if my wife's allergies go away now. Highly recommend Mad Hatter. Update: two months later, all the issues that we were having before Mad Hatter showed up have gone away and we couldn't be more pleased.

They were absolutely wonderful to work with. They were fair priced, and just provided amazing customer service. They did a timely, neat, professional job. I was dealing with them from out of state, and they were more than willing to work with me across state lines on a local property.

We just bought a house that had long-haired cats and the HVAC fikters hadnt been changed in years. My husband is highly allergic and asthmatic, so we called a couple duct cleaners based on reviews on Angie's List and BBB. We had originally responded to a $49 insert coupon with one of the scam artists, and we're so happy we cancelled. Mad Hatter quotes based on the number of systems and vents, does an amazing job, and and doesn't try to scam or sell. We actually paid $620, almost $200 less than the quote due to number of vents and Angie's list discount. The two men who showed up were professional and highly communicative about the process. I had done a lot of research and they answered all my questions thoroughly. They spent over 5 hours cleaning and went above and beyond, even loaned me their Shop Vac to get some extra junk I found under the carpets. They moved things, were neat and tidy, and ultra- polite. We'll definitely call them back again next year after finishing a construction project.

. The Technicians, Brain and Kent were excellent. They were professional, knowledgeable, friendly and honest.. I had requested they inspect the air ducts for cleaning and sanitizing, also clean the dryer vent. After a long inspection they said the the air ducts and dryer vent were clean. They quoted me a nominal fee, I requested they charge more because they had a two hour commute to my home. It was good to work with knowledgeable, professional people. I would highly recommend them to other people, and will use them in the future.

They had to reschedule 3 times. They were late and did a substandard job. They had old and outdated equipment and when they did the antibacterial treatment, they used plain water without any antibacterial agents.

The guys cleaned approximately 15-17 vents/ducts in our home. They wore protective coverings on their feet and protected all areas where they were cleaning out ducts. The job was done in approximately three hours. The guys were professional and pleasant. I will definitely use this service again.

The crew arrived as scheduled and introduced themselves. They explained exactly what they were going to do. They walked through the house with me and identified every vent. It took them about 6 hours to clean about 40 vents. We had had lots of construction work done and the vents were full of sawdust - I don't know how they got them so clean - they are spotless. We are very happy. The crew took extra good care to put down drop cloths to protect the house from dust and they were very careful moving the few items that were in their way. They were very courteous and professional. When they were finished they walked through the house with me to make sure all vents and furniture were back in place. Mad Hatter exceeded our expectations - providing high quality service while showing great care for the customer and pride in their work.

The team called to let me know they were running a few minutes late. Once they arrived, they cleaned all of the vent covers then vacuumed out each duct. The two employees were polite and worked together well. They were careful to wear protective shoe covers and put down sheets around the vents to keep the house clean. In addition, they cleaned the dryer vent for free as part of the service. Our duct from the dryer to the outside is very long and I could not believe all of the lint that was built up. We thought the dryer needed to be replaced, but it was just the impact of the lint build up. In addition to cleaning the dryer vent, the provider cleaned behind the washer and dryer.
