THE COUNTERTOP CO

We renovated a historical Arts & Craft style home in Durham. We ordered granite for the kitchen from The Countertop Company. The service tech missed the first appointment for measuring, rescheduling his visit about a week later. The service tech did come as scheduled and templates were made. The granite counters were scheduled in about 3 weeks, but due to a saw breakdown, the date was pushed out 2 additional weeks. The countertops arrived, but one piece was about an inch short. The other pieces were mis-matched in grain and width. The Company did not address these issues during the installation visit, but promised to send a service tech. That service call required several phone calls to schedule. A new template was made and sent to the factory and the counters that were installed were ground down to match, sending dust everywhere. The new piece was made after more equipment problems, numerous phone calls and supply issues. When installed, this piece was thicker than the others.

The salesman was very friendly and helpful at the store in Raleigh. It took a long time for the main office in Virginia to contact us about setting up a time for them to come measure. When he did come, the person was late, but did a very accurate measuring job and explained everything very clearly. The installers were also late, but very friendly and did a nice job. They did put a small hole in the wall taking out the old countertops but had asked first, if we were putting in a new backsplash there (we were) before they did it. I had been informed ahead of time that we would have to have our own plumber come to hook up the new faucet, but didn't know I also would have to hire an electrician for the insta-hot and cook-top and a HVAC person to vent the cook-top. This was very expensive. I would not recommend buying the cook-top from the countertop company, but rather from a dealer who knew how to install it. The granite is beautiful and comes with a lifetime sealer on it!
