My experience turned out very well. They were very professional. They were a good company to work with. They were very proficient at what they were doing. The system has reduced our energy bill significantly.

They installed solar on my roof

This is a difficult review to figure out how to write because we are both very pleased with the system and glad we went with SEM but we also had significant communication and coordination issues throughout the project starting with the initial sales meetings. Would I recommend this company to someone interested is solar? Absolutely. Even our GC and one of the subs was relieved to see we were using SEM and not a local competitor. From our electrician to our plumber to our GC, all were very impressed by the quality of the installation and the technical knowledge of the people involved in the actual planning and installation. My husband is currently thrilled to take people out and show off our new systems. My husband was impressed by the technicians he spoke with about the systems and appreciated the detailed knowledge they had. (My husband is a Professor of mechanical engineering). We like to point out that even on a cloudy cold day in Charlotte (30 degrees and cloudy), the panels for the solar hot water were still holding a temperature of 80+ degrees and the panels were generating 3KW despite the lack of sunshine. On a sunny day in the 60s, the systems were functioning at full capacity heating the water to over 125 degrees and the panels were reaching close to their peak. Communication - I would preface this critique by saying I have sat down with the director of sales and we have talked through all the communication issues. I now have a better sense of some of the reasons they happened many of which involved higher than expected installation requests, shortened time frames from the energy companies and personnel shifts. One issue may have been a combined issue between the project coordinator at SEM and our GC, With all that said, the communication throughout this protracted project was pretty bad. It was a continual frustration that required me to initiate several communications to figure out what was going on and it sometimes felt like everyone at the company was not on the same pages. Setting out a litany of complaints wouldn't really be productive here but I do at least feel like the company heard my concerns. Overall, it was a frustrating experience coordinating with SEM and I have high hopes that they have implemmented the requisite changes so that others do not experience what we did. Overall - I would recommend the company. If I had it to do over, I would have actively managed the interactions instead of expecting the company to take the lead on the coodination.

Punctuality for the install crew is an A and for the office staff it is a D. I would give the install crew only an A for professionalism. I would have to consider using them in the future.

I worked David Churn as my sales representative and he created 2 quotes using different brands of solar panels. He explained the process, costs and tax impact. SEM offered 18 months same as cash financing so the tax credits and Progress rebates will be received before the payment is needed. SEM did a great job of communicating during the whole process. The installation team was here when they said they would be and always cleaned up. The installation is very neat and professionally done.SEM coordinated with Duke/Progress to have the meter exchange done. The meter swap took longer than I would have liked, but within the range provided. QA made sure my engage application was accurately monitoring the energy used and produced. The system is generating over 6100 watts at its peak and is exceeding my expectations.

This was a very big project, so I needed a top flight company, and they delivered to my very high level of expectations. This was not a project for an inexperienced company. From the initial sales contact, I found the company to be more collaborative, as opposed to dictatorial. In other words, the sales team was more interested in hearing about my overall vision of energy management, than they were to brag about their distinguished credentials. That was a very important distinction and reason behind why I decided to go with them. Once they clearly understood what my objectives were, they suggested a period of analysis and data gathering, BEFORE they presented their solution. Next, the project management team was very adept at planning the project, navigating the permitting and certification process, and providing support as I developed a plan to present to the neighborhood Home Owners Association. Once we got over that hurdle, the installation crew was very competent, courteous and took absolutely 100% responsibility for any damage done throughout the construction process (landscaping). I must also note that there was direct involvement and guarantees given from the company's leader to ease any concerns I had regarding the work product. Post commissioning, I am very happy with the solar panel system's production and operation. I am also very happy with the steps they recommended in the fall 2012 regarding conservation. (In my unique case, I have reduced my usage 30%+ in the last three months compared to last year!). Overall, I found Southern Energy Management to be professional, credentialed, customer focused, and 100% confident in their work product.

It was done in a few days. No mess, no problems, and everything is working wonderfully! Everybody was super polite and very businesslike from the sales people to the installers. And any questions I had were answered right away and I was very satisfied and I would highly recommend them!

The service was perfect. For about 6 months out of the year we get free water and the rate is much reduced during the other months. We have never needed to call them for service. I have been very impressed by the way they were able to explain the product. We are also considering using solar electricity as well.

From the initial explanation of how the system works to the final installation, every detail was covered perfectly. My house was evaluated to determine if it was a good candidate for the system. I felt like they wouldn't advise it if I didn't have enough sunlight to make it worthwhile. Everything was planned and executed according to that plan, without any problems along the way. I am now enjoying hot water, free of charge from the sun. My circuit breaker has been turned off for over a month, and I have plenty of hot water! I was told that the system would supply 80% of my hot water needs, and that the 20% needed from electicity would most likely occur during the winter months when the sun is lower in the sky, and we don't have as much daylight anyway. With the government tax incentives, it was really a and quot;no brainerand quot; to go with this system, and this company is the right one to choose for the service.

I spoke with some folks and Energy Mgmt seemed to be more professional. They had a larger set-up and to be better connected in the business. The most important reason why I selected them is that they were able to offer financing for the panels. If there is anything lacking, is the after installation care. I would like it if they called afterwards to check on things. There have been instances when the solar panels parts malfunctioned. There were periods in the beginning when the panels stopped working. I had to monitor the panels and that's how I found out they weren't working.

They did a great job! The reports on my energy audit came first, and then he asked if he could give me a quote on a few things. The prices were very reasonable as well. They also put me in touch with the people that eventually installed my HVAC system. He went out of his way after the installation and inspected the work for me. He found a small flaw and was able to get the company back out to fix it the next day. I was very appreciative of the all the effort involved. With everything together, my energy bill this year has gone from about $1600 to a little more than $300.

They were professional, very reliable and easy to work to with. The results of the job were exactly what we had hoped for.
