I absolutely love them. They were wonderful and got the job done in half the time. They were very professional and I was very happy with him. It was everything it should be and better. They got the job done in an hour. They sent 2 guys out to do the job and they came well prepared. The cleanup was great and you couldn’t even tell they were here.
Description of Work: It was a Big Deal for $99 for Two Hours of Electrical Labor. They changed out an attic fan and also repaired a light in our attic storage. They also inspected some outlets and other areas that I was concerned about.

Response from Sloan Service Company Inc
Sir, U.S. fire departments respond each year to an estimated average of 47,820 reported U.S. home fires involving electrical failure or malfunction. These fires result in 455 civilian deaths, 1,518 civilian injuries and $1.48 billion in direct property damage. Roughly half of home electrical fires involve electrical distribution or lighting equipment. It is unfortunate that you were unhappy with my company. I handled your situation in the best possible manner. I tried my best to explain your situation whenever you allowed me to speak. I am sorry that you believe that your previous electrician did things to code when reality and the code book state otherwise. I am unable to perform unsafe acts of work that will put human life in danger. I highly suggest you get the city to inspect your home if you feel my findings are not true. Your house is currently wired illegally and is a fire hazard and/or electrical shock hazard to persons and you asked me to make it more dangerous than it already is. Breaking electrical codes is a serious thing. Wanting to further increase your risk of an electrical fire and/or electrical shock to persons for the ability to sell your home is not the business I am in. I tried several times to explain things to you while I was there but you seemed as if you did not care about what I had to say. You acted as if you had no concern for the integrity of your home or its new owner. I find this unacceptable. At the end I clearly stated that your electrical system is grossly unsafe in multiple ways and violates just short of countless code violations and is a huge liability to any party involved in it. I stated to you my belief that my name being associated in the list of contractors that had worked on this home would put me in position to have my licensed removed, sued, and/or thrown in prison. In conclusion I did not charge you any money for any of the time I had invested in your situation and you will receive a full refund from Angie’s List. Matthew Sloan Sloan Electric Service NFPA 70 National Electrical Code 2011 Edition Article 90.1 Purpose. (A) Practical Safeguarding. The Purpose of this Code is the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity. (B) Adequacy. This Code contains provisions that are considered necessary for safety. Compliance therewith and proper maintenance results in an installation that is essentially free from hazard but not necessarily efficient, convenient, or adequate for good service or future expansion of electrical use. Informational Note: Hazards often occur because of overloading of wiring systems by methods or using not in conformity with this code. This occurs because initial wiring did not provide for increases in the use of electricity. An initial adequate installation and reasonable provisions for system changes provide for future increases in the use of electricity. (C) Intention. This code is not intended as a design specification or an instruction manual for untrained persons. (D) Relation to other International Standards. The requirements in this code address the fundamental principles of protection for safety contained in Section 131 of International Electrotechnical Commission Standard 60364-1, Electrical Installations of Buildings. Informational Note: IEC 60364-1, Section 131, contains fundamental principles of protection for safety that encompass protection against electric shock, protection against thermal effects, protection against overcurrent, protection against fault currents, and protection against overvoltage. All of these potential hazards are addressed by the requirements in this code.

No service has been provided at this time. Contractor was very knowlegable, but was not initially able to get around to filling out the paperwork and submitting for a city privilege license. In follow-up, provider was very prompt to contact me, fillout privilge paperwork and set up a time to complete work

The servicemen took the time to explain everything that needed to be done, replaced and the cost, before they proceeded to correct the faulty outlets. I found them to be very knowledgeable and professional and neat. I would definitely use them again for my electrical needs. Sloan Electric also told me if I should have any problems with their work in the future to give them a call because they stand behind their work. I would definitely recommend them!!
Description of Work: Sloan Electric had to trace the wires to my outside lights and one indoor light that had just stopped working. I also had faulty wiring that needed to be replaced and a bad fuse in my fuse box that they replaced.

It went great. For starters, I was completely impressed that someone from Sloan Electric actually called me to schedule the appointment within a day of me ordering. I couldn't even get a different electrical contractor to call me back, let alone work out a date to schedule the work to be done! Anyway, the work was cheerfully scheduled within a week. I had some questions about prep and supplies, that were answered immediately. On the day of the service, I received a phone call giving me heads up that the electrician was on his way. Matt showed up on time, greeted me, went over the details of the job, and put on his shoe covers and went right to work. It was a complicated job removing the old rusted light fixture, which had to be done from the attic in the far corner of the house, where the roof slants way down. The light and new can receptacle were replaced within the first hour, leaving time for other projects. A hallway light was not working. Matt diagnosed as simply being due the hot contact being bent. He could have easily milked the time re-wiring unnecessarily, but rather did all that was needed and was ready for the next project, which was straightening out two ceiling fans. One was bent beyond repair, so he removed the fan blades for me. The other was poorly installed, so he basically reinstalled and resecured it quite well. I really appreciated that Matt showed me everything he did and explained how he did the work, which empowers me to be more self sufficient, should I endeavor to do so. I will definitely contact Sloan Electric for future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Replaced light in shower (light fixture and the receptacle can in the ceiling), fixed hallway light and fixed wobbly ceiling fan.

These guys were great. They were professional and direct in all communication, made a great effort to plan ahead with me, arrived on time and were respectful and efficient in their work. They knew what they were doing and got it done and then (because I had purchased a deal for a set hours of work) inquired about additional work I might want done in the time that remained.

Matt was very punctual, professional, knowledgeable and super polite. He and his partner Jason, did what needed to be done and were very respectful of my home, even wearing booties on shoes to not track in dirt. All my questions were answered and then some! I asked for some suggestions on another electrical install I was considering, and was provided with pros and cons on the subject. Matt and Jason split up the work and were able to accomplish all I asked for within a one hour block of time.

This is a top-notch company. The Angie's Deal was $99 for 2 hours of labor (2 electricians for 1 hour). We paid $30.00 for the supplies. Getting the wiring to the location where I wanted the outlet had proven too difficult for a couple of handymen who had been to our home. Matthew and Jason figured out how to do the job and spent quite a bit of time making the connection to a power source and fising wires through the attic and wall. When the job was done and the outlet tested, Jason vacuumed up all the sheetrock dust, etc., with a vacuum they brought! I was really impressed by that! In spite of the fact that they were here for more than an hour, Jason willingly changed an outdoor porch light bulb for us. I was doubly impressed. Having moved to the Triangle recently, we're happy to have found an electrician we can call when we need work done. Sloan Elecric Service is our electrician from now on!
Description of Work: Mathew Sloan and Jason put an outlet in our foyer where none existed. The job entailed fishing wires from the attic down through a wall, cutting into the wall and inserting an outlet.

This was by far the best experience I have had hiring a contractor. Sloan Electric exceeded my expectations of satisfaction and I will without a doubt use them for all of my electrical needs. I have already recommended him to several neighbors. They were professional, made suggestions to other items in my house that I want to do in the future. You can tell Matthew takes pride in his work, and is a bit of a perfectionist (which is a great thing--when you are dealing with lots of crystals on a chandelier or making sure a very old outlet would remain straight after updating with new plates. I give 10 out of 10 stars!!

The 2 gentlemen that came to install the bathroom ventilation fans were very nice. They checked an outside non-working motion light to determine why it did not work. First they checked the light switch which was working properly. Next he went outside to check the light. The result was that the light was not working & we needed a new one, but recommended that we get a regular light. Next they went upstairs to install 2 bathroom ventilation fans. They assessed the pipes leading from the 25 yr. old fans with the ones that would be needed for the new fans. Once he knew what was needed to install each of the ventilation fans, he came down to inform me & to let me know it would take more time & new piping. We agreed to go forward. They worked quickly and precise. When they were finished, I went upstairs to see the finish product. They did a great job! They looked good and they cleaned up their mess too! I will definitely use them again and would recommend them to others!
Description of Work: Replaced 2 real old bathroom ventilation fans. It was more complicated than we thought it would be. The venting pipes(?) had to be replaced & vented through the attic which meant they had to climb up in the attic to do this. The ventilation fans installed did not fit the same hold that the old ones did. The old ventilation fans were at least 25 years old!

Matt was very responsive scheduling the appointment in light of delays due to snow. Although he had to reschedule appointments this week, he was very accommodating to my availability. Upon arrival, he and his assistant were very professional and performed all the installations as needed. What impressed me most was Matt's ability. I had called around to get estimates on the cost of the pendant lights above a newly installed kitchen island. I was told numerous times that it'd be too difficult and would result in patching ceiling holes and repainting of the whole ceiling. Matt was able to work around this issue without us ending up with holes in the ceiling. He consulted with me about placement of the pendant lights and checked to make sure everything worked properly before leaving. He is wonderful young man who works hard and very talented and I wouldn't hesitate either recommending or using his service in the future with any electrical needs in the future.

Matthew was great - showed up exactly when he said he would and got the job done quickly. He also took the time to explain what he was going to do and why. He also went above and beyond by stopping to repair my outlet when I asked him to take a look at it, even though that wasn't in the original scope of work and he needed to get to another appointment right after mine. I'll definitely use Matthew for any future electrical work at my house.

Matthew Sloan (owner) called me almost immediately after I purchased the deal to arrange a time for him to come over and do the job. We settle on a Sunday @3pm. The Saturday (1/25) I got a call from him stating that a customer had cancelled and he wondered if i had time to complete the job today(Saturday). This was even better for me so He said he would be there in 20 min. Matthew was very prompt and I showed him what I needed done. He quickly got busy and completed all of the work, because it was so extensive it took over the actual deal (2 hrs). When he finished he took pics of the work done in the attic and explained that the 1 junction box was replaced with at lest 3 different ones with new wiring and completely up to "code" . He also installed the light fixture that I purchased, replacing one that had been on the house for over 30 years. He then made out the bill on an Ipad (he explained all cost incurred) and the receipt was sent via email. I was very pleased with his work and professionalism.

Matthew was excellent. We called him on Saturday afternoon asking him when he could come provide an estimate to move a light in our breakfast nook that was not installed in the correct location by our builder (the builder refused to move it). After finishing up another job Sunday morning, he came by on Sunday afternoon. We were expecting him to just provide an estimate, but he was ready to go, so we told him to proceed. Matthew did an outstanding job in trying to minimize cuts in the drywall/ceiling and the cuts he did make allowed him to screw the drywall back into the ceiling (making it easier for the drywall to be repaired). It took him about 3 hours to move and rewire the light. My wife was estatic when the job was complete (so now the light will be centered over the kitchen table). Matthew and his assistant were very nice and did a good job cleaning up. Everything works as it should. We are very satisfied with the job and highly recommend Sloan Electric.

Beginning to end, Matthew Sloan and his assistant, Jason were very friendly and professional. I assisted a little in that I showed Matthew where the floor outlet was to be installed and showed him access in our sealed crawl space. I had moved the furniture in advance of their arrival. His math was spot on (measure twice, cut once)! Clean-up was thorough and meticulous as well, using a Shop-Vac to clean up after their work. Matthew and Jason also offered to help me put the furniture back.

I bought Sloan's Angie's List Deal for $99 for 2 hours of electrical service. I couldn't justify paying a lot for just the discovery of the GFI reset for the house, so my wife and I bought a ceiling fan for her office to replace, too. Matthew was actually late. I still gave him an A ranking in punctuality because he actually called ahead of time to inform me. He had an emergency to take care of and I agreed that he should take care of that first. When he came with Jason, his assistant, he immediately told me where the GFI switch was. That was done in two minutes. He sent Jason to deal with the outdoor outlet while he started on the ceiling fan. He needed to replace the box in the ceiling itself, but didn't have the part, so he drove to Lowe's to buy it. He and Jason then went about the installation of the ceiling fan. Even though the box said that it was an easy installation, there is no way I could have done that on my own. Even Matthew and Jason working together took over an hour. All the time, Matthew kept telling me everything I wanted to know about home electricity, even answering questions about things that I was just curious about. He seemed confident - a young go-getter, who does know his stuff. Because of the trip to Lowe's the combined work hours exceeded 2, so Matthew could have technically charged me for the extra time. I would have been prepared to pay. However, he said that he wouldn't charge extra because he had kept me waiting for a couple of hours to start the work. All in all, I was completely satisfied with the work and impressed with the professionalism of both Matthew and Jason. Sloan Electric is now my electrician of choice.
Description of Work: They showed us where the GFI switch was in our house (not entirely obvious). They replaced an outdoor outlet cover that was letting water in (probably tripping the GFI) and they installed a ceiling fan.
