+ 7 moreI initially talked to Realm Design Studio about remodeling my kitchen. They came as a referral from a friend who had used them to design the commercial space of their business as well as some work in their home. Melissa Andron had great ideas and input (and I was skeptical on even using a designer in the first place) that gave me a far better space in the end, and likely saved me money by leveraging her professional discounts and coming up with creative options to make a unique space without breaking the bank (cost noted here was for entire project, not just the design fees). Working with Melissa was so easy, comfortable, and enjoyable that while we were at it I also had her help out with some minor decorating in the dining and living rooms. The only thing I would do differently next time is to get out of her way faster once I conveyed what I wanted to accomplish in the space. When the professionals are this good, just let them do what they do best!
Description of Work: This was a gut rehab of the kitchen using the existing space/footprint of the room; combining/moving adjacent pantry, breakfast nook and laundry rooms. We redid everything including cabinets, flooring, appliances, etc. The space started out very awkward but somehow transformed into an area that is both beautiful AND very functional. We ended up reusing some of the cabinetry (which was in very good shape and complemented the final design) and coming up with economical options on flooring and countertops that I thought were beyond my budget. Realm Design also has expertise in 'Green Design', and educated me on using better materials and suppliers that kept the industrial chemicals out of my house (I have young children, so that's doubly important to me) and let me feel better about how I was spending my money. My bamboo flooring is awesome - beautiful, durable, reasonably priced, and environmentally friendly as well. I hadn't even thought of this aspect before!
