They have always been very helpful and prompt in taking care of any problems I have. They are very nice clean cut guys. The owner occasionally checks in on me as well. I appreciate everything they do for me.

Technician was prompt and communicated the status of everything to me and my wife very well. I do have one small complaint. At the time of service, my wife was unable to get the Angie's list coupon to print. They would not accept a snapshot from the screen. Also, I submitted a question to Raleigh Heating and Air regarding whether we could send in the coupon and receive credit. I have yet to hear from them. This is the reason I gave them a C overall. If I could have had some quick response I would have rated a B or higher.

Raleigh Heating and Air was quick to come out and give an estimate for the heat/AC replacement. I got several estimates from several area companies, and I went with Raleigh Heating and Air because of a good price, and I liked the feedback and advice I got from the estimator. I had done my homework and knew the price-ranges of the equipment I needed replaced. I also had many questions about the system, including how to better balance the heat and AC between my upstairs and downstairs (and possibly adding an automatic air balancing damper). In the end, I decided to stick with the manual balance damper, and got some good advice from both the estimator, as well as the installation crew on how to best work to balance the air throughout the house. I ended up going with an Amana unit. The crew arrived on the day expected, and at the time expected. They replaced the main heat/ac unit, along with the main distribution box under the house. I also had requested them install an additional vent in an upstairs bedroom closet, and they did this work with no problems. They were able to do the work in a single (long) day. The installation came with a free one year maintenance agreement, and I was happy to receive a call in the early June for a service check, which went well too.

It kept breaking, but it wasn't their fault. We would have AC for 2 hours then we wouldn't have it, it wasn't their fault. They were fine.

David (technician) came to my house after lightning struck our A/C unit. He showed me what was damaged and why it didn't work. He then did the repairs in a timely manner and got us cool again in our home! He did an outstanding job of keeping me informed of what he was doing and why he was doing each service.

Tech added freon and got a/c back to working. Technician did a good job and was professional in manner.I bought a service contract for two maintenance visits a year, based on what he told me, including the fact that the service call did not count as a preventive maintenance visit. A salesman came out the day after the service call and told me I needed a new a/c system. He was vague about the price and could not give me a firm answer on what it would cost me. When I told him that I would have to think about it, he seemed to get mad and left. In October I called to complain that I had never got the spring maintenance and that they owed me that and another one. The person agreed and told me I would be refunded the money, but then changed their story. I have taken them to small claims court.

Not good at first, then ok on the second visit, then very bad on the last visit. The home had two systems, a gaspack and a gas furnance/outdoor ac unit. I just wanted both systems checkout out so that when I sold the home the inspector wouldn't find anything wrong. First visit: a friendly guy shows up, checks out my furnace and says everything is fine, just a little paper in the unit. Checks the downstairs gas pack, says I have a bad transformer, replaces it and charges 120 dollars for a 30 dollar transformer. Then he says the "board" is bad. Can't find anyone that has one locally and says it's going to cost around 400 dollars when he does locate one. Be back on wednesday he says. OK. Get a call wednesday from a different guy, who says he finally figured out what was wrong, something about a gas valve problem. But board was fine. OK?!? 368 dollars to install a universal gas valve and locate a low voltage short. I had a feeling the first guy didn't know what he was doing, just replacing parts at my expense until it worked.Fine. I was just going to let it go and not post a review until what happened next. Sell the house, the home inspector says the upstairs heater (one that had nothing done to it) that I paid to have checked out wasn't working. Now my buyer is getting nervous and I have a lot more to loose than the hundreds these clowns are racked up on me replacing parts that weren't broke. I hadn't turned this heater on since the guy left that inspected it. Call them back again. This is where I get really mad. I had to be transfered 3 times before I could get out of this "mandatory" diagnostic fee. I was very nice to each person I spoke with, but they insisted that I pay this fee or they wouldn't come back out. Finally I talk to a lady that waived it and she sent a 3rd guy I hadn't seen out. He says cracked igniter. How does it crack without running? Probably from the first guy putting it back together, but who can say right. 170 dollars to fix. I told him to get lost, drove over to Gem Air, bought an 18 dollar igniter, and replaced it. I sure wish I could find a good HVAC company.

Response from Raleigh Heating & Air
At member's request we arrived to his property on 11/8/2010 with approval for our 2 system diagnostic rates. The technician found a failed transformer and with approval, replaced the part. The technician thought the control board was the cause for the tranformer failure and upon the second trip a different technician found that it was not the board, but a shorted thermostat wire causing the tranformer to fail and gas valve to smoke. Upon approval, we replaced the gas valve at the homeowners request. Total for diagnostics and repairs was $727.87 for diagnostic, parts, and labor. Two months later, the homeowner called in regarding the upstairs system not working. We have a 30 day warranty on our diagnostic/repair quote and that is why he was told it would be another $89 diagnostic, which we waived as the homeowner was adament he should not have to pay. The technician found a cracked ignitor in which the homeowner declined to have repaired. The cause for the ignitor being cracked could be due in turn to not running the heat in the extremely cold temperatures which we incurred this winter, and once it heated and expanded possibly cracked. The charges for replacing parts are on a Flat Rate basis which includes the part, labor to replace the part, and a warranty on that part and labor for 1 year. We feel that we provided the fairest possible solution and service to member and regret that he was not satisfied.

They are very good. I have a contract with him for services, so it is cheaper for me this way. I paid between around $180 for the service contract. They have done a lot of work for me. I have been using him from the time that he had only one other person to help him. Now he has a business and people who work for him. Their service is what has kept me going back to them. When they fix something, they tell me what they have fixed and give me suggestions on what else needs to be done. They are very honest.

We chose this company because they were professional, knowledgeble and fairly priced, although they were unable to offer us manufaturer rebates as other companies did. We also were not given a senior discount as shown on their link, but they included duct work instead. The work was scheduled for the following week. Jason and Clifton were the technicians who quickly installed this unit without much loss of heat inside our home. They cleaned up after the work was done and we find our new unit to work just great. We will use them to service our HVAC from now on
Description of Work: Chris came to our home, did a thourough inspection of our heating system and gave us an estimate to replace our gaspack, as well as replace supply and return ducts. The system was still working but we decided to replace for the tax credit.

They were very good and very responsive. They are very interested in fulfilling your expectations and doing what you want them to do. I use them for maintenance as well. I?ve never had a maintenance contract before because I?ve never felt like a company knew more about the system than I did. I think enough about them to actually use them for annual preventive maintenance.

A few years ago, my son?s room air conditioner broke down. I called several repairers, and all of them asked me to replace the unit. Raleigh Heating & Air are the only people who fixed it for me and saved a lot of money. I highly recommend them. I had promised them, that, if they fixed the air conditioner I will use their services in future. I have lived up to the commitment and have them service the air conditioners twice in a year. I will continue to use their services in the future too.

Called Raleigh Heating & Air on a 2 year old heat pump system that has required 4 repairs (including a new coil and complete charge of coolant) from the original installer. When it failed again, and we were told "you probably have bad wiring and need to call an electrician" (by the company who installed it when the home was built in 2007 -- a conclusion I was highly skeptical to accept given modern building code and the prior non-electrical component failures of the unit), we had enough and decided to have it looked at independently, even if it we would be out the cost of the diagnostic and repair. We found R H&A on Angie's List, and cross-checked that they were a factory authorized service shop by the company that manufactured the heat pump and called. So it was 94 degrees *inside the house* on a Friday, and we were able to schedule an appointment the same day. Chris M. arrived in the time window promised and was very courteous. He took a reasonable amount of time to inspect the air handler in our attic, pulled the panels on the compressors outside, and asked lots of questions, given that this was a new home. After resetting a "hidden" outside circuit breaker and explaining what was "user serviceable" and what was not, things were running again. (Did you know you probably have 2 or 3 circuit breaker boxes if you have a newish home? We didn't!) A lot of other companies would have just handed us a bill for a house call and left at that point, but Chris didn't. Over the next hour and a half, he ran a number of tests, including electrical load, coolant pressure, etc., and concluded that wiring was highly unlikely to be the culprit. What *was* an issue however, was that the system had been overfilled by 15% or so. We couldn't determine precisely why the circuit breaker had tripped, but concluded that a switch may be defective (a $6.00 problem, as opposed to a $1,500 problem), but we can't be sure unless it happens again. We will follow up when we know more. I would recommend these guys, and will be using them again when we do an attic renovation. They are professional, reasonably priced, and treat you fairly.

Poorly. The tech used a neighbor's garden hose to cool the unit off after it overheated without the my or their permission, and started to refuse the angie's list 10% off repairs coupon. The tech then wrote up an invoice for the second repair and got the math wrong for ~$20 in his favor. I didn't notice until after I left and their office assured me it would be fixed, but what if I hadn't checked?
Description of Work: Company tech came out and replaced a blown capacitor on the AC unit. The tech did not test the system's cooling capacity after he left and the AC was working again but not as well as it had prior to the visit. After another call the same tech was sent back out and did an hour and a half of work and testing to figure out that the refrigerant level was low.

Excellent. The technician also provided a status of other components in our gas pack unit which is nine years old.
Description of Work: Our A/C unit suddenly was not cooling our home. Early in the morning, I called another company, (from Angie's List), first, but they were not able to send a technician for three days. I called Raleigh Heating and Air and they promised to come to our home by the next morning. Early in the afternoon, I received a call that a technician would be able to come that evening. The technician called prior to arriving. He determined quickly the problem and charged the A/C with 2 pounds of refrigerant.

My upstairs air conditioning was running lukewarm. I checked Angie's List and was impressed with Raleigh Heating and Air. I called and expected to be squeezed in for an appointment in several days given we're near peak season. Instead, I was scheduled for the following afternoon. Then, when they had a cancellation, they called and asked if I'd like service in the morning instead. The technician was on time, friendly and professional. His estimate for freon recharge, cleaning and replacing some parts was $400. The final bill was for only $1.78 more! I declined their extended service contract; there was no attempt to give me a hard sell. Anyway, I'm typing this in my nice, cool upstairs bedroom. I'm happy with the service and will gladly use Raleigh Heating and Air again!

Great! I had previously been using this company to maintain the system that came with my house and was happy with their service. So when it came time to replace the unit, I was pleased when they were able to offer something that met the specs I wanted and at an estimate that was significantly better than a competing quote. The installers were polite, efficient and cleaned up after themselves. A service rep went out immediately to check on (and resolve) an odd odor after installation. And the unit is working well.
