I contracted with Nick Overby, owner of Probuilt Construction solely on the basis of his message on his website, "first class workmanship and number 1 select lumber". I had other bids and all prices were close. Job was completed on 09/04/2014. About two weeks after completion I noticed the 6x6 posts at the front of the deck were different heights, also noted same problem for 6x6x posts for the steps. Also noted screw points on the flat surfaces of the 2x6 deck railings(a definite hazard for hand injuries). Nick removed some of the screws front 2x6 railings. When I mentioned the height difference on the posts, Nick asked me if I had ever built a deck, not sure why he asked me that question. He stated the height difference was minor and he had added post caps at no cost. We did not want free post caps. When the one post cap was removed a small piece of lumber had been nailed to one of the 6x6 in an effort to correct the height difference but there is still a height difference. I told Nick I would add shims to the other posts. Deck was not used much during the winter weather. April 2014 I contacted Nick regarding curling and cracked deck boards, he said he would come by and take a look. I received an email from Nick before coming out to look at he deck board problem, he advised he did not warranty lumber and he would contact his supplier to come out and look at the deck floor. Nick came by, looked at the problem of curling boards, stated he might fix the boards at the top of the steps but no other boards on the deck floor. Rep from the supplier came by, stated there is no warranty for deck floor boards except for knots in the boards, he did not inspect the floor for knots, said there is no warranty. Over half of the deck boards have knots. I met with Nick on May 22, 2014, I restated the above problems and advised Nick that I understood the weather and humidity impact on wood decking but the above problems not related to weather. Same day I asked Nick to request replacement lumber from his supplier at no cost to me, he said he was contact his supplier again. Nick said his labor cost to replace floor and rails would be $650.00, I agreed to pay that amount if he could provide the materials discussed. Nick emailed me on August 23, 2015, his message, "doesn't look good for getting lumber at no cost". I have not heard from Nick since August 23, 2015. Probuilt's warranty is two years for workmanship, ten years for structure. Due to the uneven(different heights of deck 6x6 posts) the 2x6 rails are separating from the 2x4 rails underneath the 2x6 rails. The screw points on the top side of the 2x6 railings were an effort to correct the height difference of the 6x6 post. I should not have to pay for any of the above mentioned defective materials or poor workmanship. Expert construction skills and use of premium materials stated on the website is not evident with the deck they built. I emailed Nick on December 3rd, 2015 asking for a partial refund of the contract price. The above issue has not been resolved and I need to hire someone else to "fix" our deck. Nick refused any refund. I did not verbalize to him that I was pleased with the construction and quality of the wood. In fact the crew installed 3 or 4 defective 2x10 floor joists(knots and uneven ridges) early in the construction. When I mentioned to Nick he said he could replace with some of the lumber from my old deck. He said he did not have any more new wood on site, against my better judgment I agreed to leave the defective joists. Nick states I complained one year after the deck was completed. I first contacted Nick two weeks after the deck was completed(see contents of my review dated 10/22/2015). My first contact with Nick regarding the deck problems was 04/23/2015. I did pay the balance due the day the deck was completed, 09/04/2014, Nick left the job site about 30 minutes before his workers finished sanding the deck. I didn't have a chance to inspect the finished product before he left so I did not verbalize to him that I was satisfied. We never discussed using composite materials.

I can't say enough about the craftsmanship, professionalism, and dedication that Nick and his crew demonstrated. From the quote, to finalizing details, working through the contract (my wife's a lawyer :) ), and building a beautiful screened porch with custom details, the job couldn't have gone better. He was courteous, patient, and knowledgeable. The construction went smoothly and more quickly than I had expected. The attention to detail and commitment to quality construction are evident everywhere. His contractors were prompt and professional, including very prompt responses to punch-list items that came up after the job was completed and payments had been made. While Nick was not the least expensive contractor we had quote or project, he was in line with the higher quality contractors we spoke with, and very fairly priced for the quality of work he offers. I've had issues with contractors on previous jobs, so I'm extremely careful about who I hire, and value a dedicated, reputable contractor. Nick surpassed all of my expectations, and the end result is nothing but stunning. I've had multiple landscaping/hardscaping contractors out to quote other aspects of my project, and everyone has commented on how beautiful and well built the porch is. Nick is honest and skilled, and I would highly recommend Pro-built.

They were stellar. I have recommended them, and I know that several of my neighbors have used them as well.

Working with Nick was an awesome experience. He was not the cheapest option, but I feel very confident in saying that while the other contractors who we had bid the job (both top-rated on Angie's List) would have built us a fine porch, they could not and would not have brought the kind of vision and enthusiasm to the job that Nick provided. Nick is a porch-building artist who has managed the very difficult task of melding creativity, vision, and attention to detail to efficiency and business savvy. Nick was on site almost constantly and his standards for work quality were even higher than my own. Within a week after the project was completed I had a painter whose opinion I value highly come by to bid another project. He took one look at our porch, said that it was some of the best work he'd ever seen, and asked for Nick's number. I have worked with builders who could design you the best thing ever, but then couldn't produce it on time or on budget to save their life. Nick did all three, and we couldn't be happier.

We would also give Nick 6 stars if it were possible. He and is crew did a fabulous job on our project. The new porch is very high quality with beautiful molding, bead board ceiling and high quality lumber throughout. The floor was sanded for a nice finishing touch. Nick is a master carpenter who worked along side his talented, professional group in addition to leading the project and keeping it on schedule (despite a few days of rain). He kept us informed on and quot;next stepsand quot; throughout the project. From start to finish the project took about 3 weeks which included removing the old deck through to final paint/stain. Nick also took photographs of the project throughout and posted them on facebook (our project was project #17). We would definitely use Nick again and would highly recommend him. I would give 6+ star review if it were possible. Pro-Built just finished adding a 3 season room to our home. Nick with Pro-Built had many obstacles to overcome including tying 3 roofs together. Other contractors were stumped on how to accomplish this feat due to the location of the roofs and existing skylights but Nick looked at it and in about 5 minutes had a plan and successfully executed it. Nick has a team of master builders who work together like a well oiled machine and their product is far superior than their competitors and I believe worthy of inclusion in Architectural Digest. I had an old deck demolished and a new screened in porch and deck built in its place. Our project was especially challenging because out deck was 15 feet off the ground. Nick came out and walked us through some ideas. He sent us a quote within a week. Once we decided we want to proceed with the project, we sent Nick a deposit and a signed contract in order to get on his schedule. Nick immediately applied for a building permit. When building day came, Nick and his entire crew showed up and made great progress quickly. The whole team is very courteous and professional. The first part of the project (the building of the structure and all the finer carpentry work) moved along quickly. We had a couple of slow points, but that was mainly due to the holidays, some bad weather, and scheduling of some subcontractors. Overall, Nick did a great job keeping things moving along and making sure everything was done properly. A couple of things to note. One, Nick did a great job helping me to visualize the work being done. Nick helped us with visualizing what the deck would look like with all the finer details and he made great recommendations. Two, Nick subcontracts out the electrical, painting, and tiling to other workers. He does a great job overseeing their work. On this project, we were having the screened in porch floor tiled. His regular guy was booked, so he went with another crew someone recommended to him. He was there at the start and was pleased with how they were installing the cement board. He stepped out for a little bit. When he came back, he was very unhappy with how they installed the remaining cement boards. He didn’t have the confidence that they could do the job, so he let them go. He proceeded to finish the installation of the cement board on his own. Although this prolonged the project, I was grateful that he was looking out for my long term interest and making sure the job correctly. We very pleased with the final product. The screened in porch and deck is rock solid and looks great. Nick and his crew did a great job. I would highly recommend them for any deck project.
