Painting Services Today

Contractor received payment of approx. 3700.00 and never completed the work. Delayed completion date in excess of two months and never completed project and left damage to the home and deck.

Good news: The interior got painted. It was a mediocre but tolerable job, but it's done and I didn't have to do it. And the price was good. Bad news: Um, where to start... 1) Punctuality: Forgot the first walk-thru visit (I didn't reconfirm just prior, so that's probably my fault); was supposed to paint Tuesd-Friday, Tuesday he emails me to say he was in a minor wreck on i40 and wouldn't be there til the next day. Wednesday he has his wife call to say he had to have some car work done after the wreck and will be there Thursday. Thursday he (and several helpers) show up and are adamant they'll be done Friday, in spite of me saying I'd rather have quality than quickness. They finally wrapped up the next Tuesday. 2) Quality: Seriously, who paints a ceiling without drop cloths? They tried wiping the paint out of my carpets but I can still notice it. There's paint on the carpet from them painting the trim in places I was scraping paint off my new linoleum with a fingernail. I scraped it off the edges of the bathroom mirror. There's a lot of splatter marks on the top edge of the fireplace mantle. They knocked a piece of ceiling popcorn off and instead of getting a can of popcorn to replace it, they sorta slathered sheetrock mud over the spot... it's less obvious now but certainly doesn't look right. I just try to take deep breaths and remind myself that it's not a *bad* job, and I didn't have to do it. But I expect a LOT better from a professional painter. 3) The Price: He was having a 'special' for $999 interior paint, or 999 exterior, plus you provide paint. When we did the walk thru, he said... oh, that doesn't include ceilings ($300 extra), doors, or closets. I paid extra for the ceilings, but now I have bright white trim around the doors, which makes the (not repainted) white doors look dingy. He did paint 1 coat closet and the inside of the front door at my request (they both badly needed it). But most painting quotes include at least the interior doors! 4) The Deck: he was supposed to pressure wash & paint the deck. He hasn't. I had many many versions of "I'll do that tomorrow". He quit returning my emails. I found his phone number (because the phone in his email is invalid... I called the # his wife had called me from and got him, he was surprised to have me call there) and he said 'tomorrow'. I haven't seen him again. MY DECK IS STILL NOT PAINTED. He had me pay for the interior the day after he was done (and said I could pay for the deck separately). I tried saying 'either do it or give me back my keys.' I tried saying, 'If you don't give me my keys back, you can pay the locksmith to rekey'. I got no response. (I do have the type of lock that I can rekey myself, *whew*) 5) Finishing work: He asked me to do a "first walk thru" and fixed a couple things I pointed out, then wanted paid. I left him the check the next day without checking that he'd done everything I mentioned (he hadn't), but thought he'd still finish (pushing fridge/stove back, reinstalling 2 can lights whose trim had been removed, touching up 1 piece of trim) when he came back to do the deck... he never did. Overall... he was nice and personable. Painting job was mediocre. Not returning my keys was unacceptable.
