The deck of the roof appears to be repaired properly. However I have come to understand that Old Raleigh Roofing mostly used the 20 year old shingles that had been on the sagging deck instead of using all new shingles. The shingles now need to be replaced. When I talked to Mr. Daniel Terry about the issue, as I recall he said that the shingles went on top of a water proof membrane that will keep everything dry. But my understanding of the membrane’s design is that an application of structurally sound shingles on top of the membrane is required. And I cannot imagine anyone would argue that 20 year old shingles which HAVE BEEN REMOVED and set aside for some time, then reapplied are structurally sound. The 20 year old shingles ARE NOT adhering to the shingles benefit them, and all I get from mr. terry is a run around. “How about turning in a claim to your insurance company” was one of his proposed resolutions.
Description of Work: Replaced roof deck on south side of the house.

The job went very well. The roofer that worked on my roof was very courteous polite and knowledgeable. Daniel who is one of the owners of the company contacted me several times to see how things was going. I felt that they were very attentive and really cared about doing a wonderful job. This gave me great peace of mind since my roof is not something where I want anyone to cut corners.
Description of Work: They pulled out to old attic fans in my finished attic and replaced with new roof shingles. They placed two new attic fans in new areas of my roof. They replaced all my plumbing boots and caulked and sealed areas of my roof.

I was not aware but a tree limb had fallen and caused the damage that resulted in the roof leaking into my kitchen. The company responded quickly and repaired my roof in a timely manner. I no longer have a roof leak and I was very satisfied with their services all around.
Description of Work: The service technician repaired a roof leak. They had to replace some damaged roof decking and re-shingle an area where the leak occurred.

Contacted Olde Raleigh Roofing for some repair work to our shingles and roof that had solar panels and they arrived on time and gave us a quote on the spot and began that same day. After removing the braces for the solar panels we found areas of rot that the repairman immediately began to replace and the contractor came back out to explain what was going on to ensure we understood the process. The repairman worked until he repaired that section and came back the next morning very promptly and completely finished the other shingle/roof section that needed to be replaced. He was excellent! the Contractor came back out that day to ensure we were pleased with the progress. The following day the repairman completed the roof maintenance to our complete satisfaction. The repairman had WONDERFUL work ethic and completed all items without being reminded, (we had a lot of items on the list!) He went over and beyond to complete the job and complete the job right! I would highly recommend this company for roofing and siding jobs! We will use them again!

We noticed we had a stain on the ceiling in our kitchen, in the back of the house. We called Olde Raleigh Roofing and they came out for an estimate. We paid $1000 for repair of what was described as missing step flashing between the one story portion of the house and the 2 story portion, and also resealing around all of the vents on the roof. They got all the work done in about 2 hours, a crew of about 4 men. A week later the same spot reappeared, and was bigger and we also found another spot in the front of the house. We called them back and they promptly sent someone out to repair the roof again. The leak was described this time an an unsealed nail.About a week later the spot in the front of the house reappeared and again, they sent someone out. Again it was described as an unsealed nail and resulted in replacement of several shingles right over the front door of the house. This time however the roofer was smart enough to test it before he left. He asked me to use the water hose to hose down the area while he went in the attic and checked for any leaks. On the positive side we never paid for any of the follow up visits or repair. On the negative side there were 3 visits to repair the same leak and now the shingles above the door are a lighter color than the rest of the roof.

Let me begin by saying that the ONLY reason we had ORR perform this work was because they put our original roof on back in 2007 and when I called them, they said that we would void our warranty by having someone else do this work on our roof. Being somewhat naive, we thought that included the warranty on the shingles themselves and not just the warranty on their previous work. We would not have hired them otherwise. I began calling Daniel Terry in May, 2011 to ask about the warranty and whether we needed to have them do the work. It took four phone calls and one rather irate voicemail for him to finally call me back just to answer that question. He came out in June to inspect the damage and we showed him the plans for the bed/bath addition. He gave us a reasonable verbal estimate and we said we would contact him once we hired a contractor to perform the other work. We decided, and our GC agreed, that it would be best to have all the roofing work done at one time since the tornado damage to the roof was relatively minor and we weren't experiencing any leaks. When our GC was getting close to being done with the framing, we gave them Daniel's number so they could coordinate the roofing work. Our GC called numerous times and we're not sure if he ever spoke with Daniel. So, we started calling Daniel, and had to leave a couple voicemails before we could get him to call us back. (Note: His voice mailbox is nearly always full, so most of the time when you call, you can't even leave a message!) Daniel finally called back and told us that the shingles currently have had been discontinued and sent my husband out to the supplier to pick out new shingles for the addition. (Our thought here was that Daniel should have gone to the supplier himself, picked up the samples and brought them to us. Very unprofessional.) We picked out the closest shingles we could find, called and emailed Daniel with our selection. A WEEK LATER, he ordered the shingles after more phone calls and voicemails (when we could leave them). He made us purchase the shingles on our credit card!! He said they should arrive that Friday and that they would be here then to install the roof. We desperately wanted to get the roof on before Hurricane Irene came through that weekend. Did they show up that Friday as promised?? No. We called and called and called and could never get Daniel. The rain started pouring and within 45 minutes, we had leaks in the addition. We called and called and called Daniel, and still couldn't get him. We at least wanted them to come out and put tarps over the addition so we wouldn't have any more leaks. In the end, our GC had to put tarps on the roof, on a Friday night at around 7pm (when they had already left for the day), in the pouring rain. We sent Daniel a not-so pleasant email and received a response saying that our GC must not have felted the roof properly. He blamed them for the leaks even though we'd been trying for a couple weeks to get the roof installed by ORR. He said that though the shingles were there, they would not have installed them in haste because they wouldn't have held, etc. He then blamed our GC again for not drying in the roof properly and said ORR would be out first thing on Monday to install the roof. He also said we could contact him at any time over the weekend. We called, and his voice mailbox was always full. Were they there that Monday to install the roof?? No. They finally came on Tuesday to start work on the tornado damage repairs. They removed the old soffit and fascia and left the underside of the overhang completely unprotected overnight, and it rained again. The following day they came out and put the new soffit and fascia on. They started on the roof work the following day, completing the tornado repairs and starting on the roof for the addition. They got as far as they could, and ran out of shingles! (This happened when we had the original roof put on too -- see my other review for ORR.) He ordered more shingles, on our credit card again, and said they would be delivered on Friday and they would be out that Friday to complete the work. I told him we were both going to be out of town that weekend (Labor Day) and that we could meet with him anytime the following Tuesday to finalize payment. He said something like, and quot;Oh, I was planning to come by Friday to pick up the check.and quot; He then backtracked and said they would have all the work completed by Monday (Labor Day) and would come by Tuesday to collect the check. When we came back on Labor Day, they still had not finished the roof on the addition. We had called multiple times over the course of the weekend and never got Daniel. We finally got them out on Tuesday to finish the work. My husband had to instruct the guy (Randy) who was working here that he needed to also finish puttying the nail holes on the soffits and that there was a piece of molding missing from one end of the soffit. He reluctantly did so and finished the soffit work. Randy spent most of the day here for about 2-3 hours work. I think he spent more time smoking on our roof than nailing shingles on. Daniel came the following day to collect payment and to sign forms we needed for insurance purposes on the tornado damage. The total amount owed looked a little high to us and we found out that he was trying to charge us again for the shingles we had already purchased on our credit card!! We got the corrected amount, wrote him a check and hope we never have to see him again. To sum up, Olde Raleigh Roofing is a completely unprofessional and unreliable business. Daniel Terry is extremely hard to get in touch with and has very little professional courtesy for his clients. They have no sense of customer service, even for repeat clients and tried to overcharge us by about $1000 in the end. We will never use them again (warranty or no warranty) and we will never recommend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: We sustained damage from the tornado in April 2011. We used Olde Raleigh Roofing to repair said damage to our roof including: Damaged soffits and fascia, minor roof damage which mostly required replacing some shingles. We also had an addition done to our home (we extended a bedroom, added a walk-in closet and master bath), and had ORR do that roof as well as the tie in to the existing roof.

They were very courteous and professional when they came out to give us the estimate. Their estimate was on par, and slightly under, a couple other estimates we received. Also, they were the only one in the area that had the color of architectural shingles we wanted (blue). They came out one day and did most of the work, but they ran out of shingles for almost 1/3 of the house! We were disappointed that they estimated the amount incorrectly - especially since they do this all the time. They called us immediately after we left a message at the office and said they would deliver more shingles within a week and get the work completed thereafter. They were correct and the roof was completed a week later at no additional charge. Overall, they were very good and we would use them again, but we think they should have been able to estimate the amount of shingles to order (even an overestimate would have been better).
Description of Work: They replaced our entire roof with architectural shingles.
