Only problem was, the estimate that was promised in 2-3 days, took some 20 days to get and required 2 telephone calls giving them the same contact information a total of 3 times. Once I had the estimate and agreed to the work plan, they were very prompt on completing the work in a time frame far less than was specified in the estimate.

During the estimate everything was explained accurately, there were no surprises when the invoice came. Multiple levels of restoration with associated pricing, the number of options can be a little overwhelming, but something is available for everyone. Certainly they are the best option for pieces that are beyond the reach of a do it yourself project. The price was absolutely appropriate for the quality of work, the results were amazing. All of the woodwork looks better than new. I would definitely go back to them with additional projects.

After seeing Mumford's work in a friend's home, I called right away to ask about restoring my own furniture. The furniture has been in family for many generations, and I had delayed restoring it because I didn't want to take a chance on pieces being ruined in the process. Mr. Mumford contacted me promptly, and came to my home at the agreed appointment time. He knew his stuff--far more than I did! He helped me choose new upholstery for the chairs, keeping in mind that my 6 cats can be rather difficult in that department. We also arranged for various other repairs, especially for the civil war desk which was in dilapidated condition. The Audubon print, which was in poor shape due to many years in a damp beach house, looked like a goner to me, but Mr. Mumford explained that much of the apparent damage was on the frame and glass rather to the print itself. We arranged a time for Mumford's crew to pick up the items a week or so later. The guys came so promptly I practically could have timed them to the second. They were very polite and took great care with the furniture. After about 3 weeks, I received a call saying the furniture was ready to be delivered to my home. Again, the guys came exactly on time, and returned my now SUPER LOOKING restored furniture with care. Everything looks just gorgeous. I am so happy to recommend Mumford Restoration. They really do first rate work. I will definitely use them in the future to restore other items I was keeping back, just in case something went wrong. It's great to find a company I can trust with long-time family treasures.
Description of Work: Mumford restored several items of antique furniture: 6 dining chairs, a civil war desk, a large carved chest, and a large Audubon print.

They came to our home to quote us to restore a wicker love seat that had been in our family for four generations. The leg had been broken and caning around it had been destroyed by incompetent movers. Very polite and seemed knowledgable, pointing out the break in two places instead of just the single place we originally thought. The quote was reasonable due to the skill, materials and labor needed to fix a 100 year old piece of wicker. It was returned to us within the quoted time frame (3 weeks) and the delivery man was very nice. He was even 10 minutes early. It was certainly not cheap but I think that it was worth it to have this piece useable and back in the family. Also the love seat was returned to us much cleaner than it went out, being vacuumed and wiped down. That was a nice surprise as it had been in a garage for 6 months. Overall very pleased with experience. Wish that we had the time/budget to take them up on paint and upholstery, will defiantly use them again if needed!

The furniture is extremely heavy and it took three men from about 10 am until 2pm to get it all in the room and reassembled. In addition to that they had to be very careful since I just had all new hardwood floors installed. They did it all without any damageto the floors. Whatever marks and dents made in the walls were expected given the tight area they had to work in. Even that is nothing that can't be spackled and painted. Overall they did a very good job and thanks to Mumford Restoration I now have a bedroom set I would definitely recommend them!
Description of Work: They needed to take to pieces of my bedroom furniture apart in order for it to fit through the upstairs hallways and into my bedroom. Then they had to bring all the furniture upstairs and put those two pieces back together.

Work was delivered on time, and quality was good. He came well-recommended. However, had I been an Angie's List subscriber at the time, I would have discovered he was overpriced. And he pushed to perform services I did not want or need.

We have lived here for thirty years. We have had a lot of people. I would not recommend them to anybody. They came highly recommended to me. I called them and I told him I would like them sanded down. I would like a new finish. I wanted to smooth the top out. I told him what i wanted done. I did not want it stained. I wanted it kept to its original color. We were in a mess as our kitchen was getting redone. I thought if it is going to come back brand new, it would be worth the price. To buy the table new would have cost at least 1500 dollars now. When we got the table back. A kid delivered it back six weeks later. It looked very flat. When I took the cloth off and my son noticed there was loads of speckles and indention's still over it. The color was flat. This was this past year. It had indentations. I did not want an argument as it was in the house for several months before I knew there was anything wrong. It had remained covered as our kitchen is getting remodeled.
Description of Work: I used Mumford Restoration for furnishing and repair. They are restorers of furniture. I had a kitchen table. It was solid wood. Over thirty years, there has been a little stain here and the odd scratch. It was not too bad. We decided to have it refinished. It was all natural oak. Somebody who was working here said Mumford was the best in the area. We were having our kitchen redone.

Excellence from start to finish. Greg's estimate was timely, efficient, and he provided suggestions that were very helpful. Greg was instrumental in the design/build process which resulted in an end product that exceeded expectations. The pick up/delivery and set up by Ed and his partner was fast and professional. Joe. the carpenter, did an incredible job. He is a true craftsman who can effectively execute on creative designs . Joanne, who managed the phones/payments/etc. was a pleasure to work with.

I contracted with Mumford recently for a number of tasks and found them to be a pleasure to work with. They were prompt, professional and produced outstanding results. Specifically, they reglued the chairs for my grandmother's dining room table, repaired a broken leg to my wife's grandfather's desk and repaired the the peeling and cracked veneer on a 1880's vintage German wardrobe. Would highly recommend them to anyone.

I was not happy with it and didn't want to deal with them anymore. I wasn't happy the way they operated. They did not handle with care my new furniture. They did try to wrap it when they took it out. But when they returned it, it wasn't wrapped at all. They just didn't take much care. The shelves were dusty. They were going round the house to find things to repair, I didn't like that. I had asked them to give me an estimate on something and they have never done it. They advertise they give free estimates. I showed them frames that I wanted get repaired and asked for an estimate. They told the cost to restore it, but they never gave me an estimate. I decided not to work with them. I think it was a fair price, but they didn't do what they said they would do. It wasn't worth the price. The quality was poor as they didn't address the problem and handling my furniture. I wouldn't use them in the future.

Mumford Restoration did a wonderful job. They were professional, courteous and on budget. I would definitely recommend their work. You can see examples of their work on their website.
Description of Work: We had heirloom furniture pieces that had been in my husband's family for generations. Mumford repaired and rebuilt sections that had broken in the move to Raleigh. The other piece needed a lot more work. Mumford restored the wood framing and re-upholstered the piece. During the estimate, they warned me that the upholsterer was significantly behind. We knew that that piece would take significantly more time but it was well worth the wait. The results speak for themselves. I would definitely recommend their work.

This was a great choice for our furniture to get back to beautiful. There was a little bit of confusion on when the pieces were to be picked up, but nothing catastrophic since the quality far outweighed anything. The staff and owner are very very knowledgeable and we will use them in the future.

We began the project in Jul 05. Mumford's initial consultations seemed promising, however every aspect of the project after contract signing was a disaster. As of Mar 07, we still have a large hole in our living room ceiling as a result of the same shower leaking. Because this is the 3rd attempt at a proper repair, we are waiting to close the hole until we have a leak-free shower for at least a month! Mumford's sub-contractors (subs) all blamed each other for the continued leak and as a result, attempts at re-repair were slow, uncoordinated and unsuccessful. The tile contractors Mumford selected were the worst of the bunch. Work was sloppy (looked like I had done it myself), workers were always late and work-site was left filthy after every visit. Instead of bringing in new, qualified and un-biased subs to diagnose the problem after the initial group failed 2 times, Mumford insisted on using the same subs. I still am not confident in the repair, but I am exhausted by the entire process
Description of Work: We hired Mumford to place tile floors in two bathrooms and a laundry room, repair/replace a leaking shower drain pan, re-tile the shower and bathtub area, replace a shower surround, replace faucets and shower hardware in two bathrooms, prepare walls for painting in 3 rooms and repair the living room ceiling that was damaged as a result of the leaking shower on the second floor. As of yesterday (28 Mar 2007)--we still have an active leak. Our carpet was pulled out just yesterday because the leak sent water into our master bedroom upstairs and our living room downstairs and we have 4 industrial fans working to dry things up. Mumford is sending demolition people out tomorrow to tear the entire shower out and over start again. This will be the 4th time he has attempted the repair since July 2005.

Mumford came in, gave an estimate, and we delivered the bed rails to the company. Mumford assured me that new wooden bed rails would be made using the existing hardware (metal hinges). Mumford delivered the new rails, and installed them on the antique bed. One week late, my 70 lb. daughter sat on the bed, and the rails snapped off the hinges. I had Mumford come back to pick up the snapped rails for repair, and I was reassured new rails would be made. After 4 weeks, Mumford had 2 youths return the bed rails and re-assemble the bed, and when I mentioned these should be new rails, one of the young men told me they simply glued the rail back together. One of the young men got a supervisor on the phone, and I insisted that I was told new rails would be made. The supervisor said he looked at the rails, and that my 90 pound daughter caused the rails to break when she sat on the bed. I had another antiques restorer look at the bed,and he agreed the rails were not satisfactory.
