I have needed to replace my stove for a long time and I finally got around to it. Fortunately I moved the old stove to see what was underneath and behind it. I discovered the electrical outlet was a large outlet that stuck up out of the floor. I contacted customer service at Whirlpool (the new stove is a Whirlpool) to see if it would work as is. They said "no - it needs to be on the wall within certain parameters detailed in the online documentation". So, I checked on Angie's List for an electrician and found Miller and Miller who were highly rated. I called them and they came out to do the work quickly (I had a few days before the new stove arrived). The electrician did good work and even asked for a copy of the online documentation to be sure the new outlet on the wall was in the right place. I was very pleased with the work and the cost (the Angie's List discount was nice). I would recommend Miller and Miller to friends and use them again for work on my house.
Description of Work: Needed electrical outlet for the stove moved from the floor to the wall to accommodate a new stove.

The first visit seemed to go very well. Zach came a little early and worked for a few hours addressing the issues noted above. He was very careful in our home and worked neatly. Shortly after he left we noticed a breaker (associated with a box he worked in) began tripping and that one of the dimmers in a box he straightened for us no longer operated correctly. Prior to the second visit Dale (the owner) gave me a call making it clear that if the dimmer issue wasn't caused by the work Zach did that he would have to charge a service charge and I understood and agreed to this. Dale arrived on time to diagnose the issues. He addressed the breaker fault issue, installed 2 switches that I 'added on' and checked out and replaced the faulty dimmer which he maintained was not damaged by Zach. All labor was done carefully and neatly - I was very and impressed by (and appreciative of) this. The thing that does still bother me at the end of the day it this: The dimmer worked prior to the first visit and was found not to be operating properly within a couple of hours of leaving. My theory is that the dimmer was damaged inadvertently during the first visit (possibly from working on it without turning the breaker off?) but I cannot prove it. The second visit (with me adding in 2 switches and Dale's good-will deletion of the service fee) was still nearly $250. Included in this fee was the time it took to go purchase the replacement dimmers, the cost of the dimmers and most of their installation. All in, including both visits, it cost nearly $600 to replace 8 dimmers with switches and swap the location of 2 switches in adjacent switch banks. Dale and Zach seemed thorough, competent, honest and eager to do the right thing. However with the passage of time, the more I think about it I really feel the dimmer should have been covered by warranty. I am not a penny-pincher or trying to get something for nothing - it's not about the money. Heck, I'm willing to pay up for quality. It's more about the principle. I would love to use M&M based on their quality of work but may be somewhat gun-shy based on the overall cost of having this work done.
Description of Work: 2 Visits: First visit was to straighten out a 4 gang switch box done by another servicer - the switches were crooked. Swapping out several dimmers for regular switches and relocating a switch from one bank to an adjacent one. Second visit was to check on why one of the dimmers from the 'crooked' gang box stopped working properly and to diagnose a repeating breaker fault that began after the first visit. I thought these to be minor issues, therefore it didn't impact my rating of the quality of their work.

Thanks so much for the great comments. We truly put our heart in our work as evident by our Angie’s list grade and comments. Our aim is to deliver the very best customer service; we truly work very hard to earn your business. To address the comments about the price/service as regards to your Maestro touch/dimmer switch; on our first visit we relocated the switch from one location to another. On the second visit, as you and I examined, I showed you that there was no physical damage to the device. Further, as stated, these touch pad dimmer switches are very mechanical, like electrical breakers, we have no control of their longevity. As a recap I did not and do not feel that this device was inadvertently damaged by us on the first visit as this is a (very light) touch dimmer switch as opposed to a “tap/snap” dimmer switch, which will take a more aggressive touch. We deal with 1000’s of devices each year; sadly there are many malfunctions. As much as M&M would like to provide “warranties” on used products, it just isn’t feasible; which is why the manufactures themselves only provide “limited” warranties. Thank you for acknowledging that we did give you some monetary discounts to try to ease the burden of the added work that was required. It was our pleasure to work with you, you have a lovely home and hopefully, we can do business in the future. If you have any questions, please give us a call. Thanks again for your business. P.S. We are so sorry you have had so many problems with contractors that you have hired from Angie's List. We feel that this is the very best medium to make sure you hire quality and experienced contractors. Dale Miller Miller and Miller Electric

The electrician did a great job and he was on time as well. I had a wire that was loose in the electrical switch and that was causing the lights to not come on. So, he came in to reattach the wires and he also changed a fixture for me since it only took a few minutes to reattach the wire. The price that they charged was a flat rate and there was no additional charge. I felt that their price was comparable with other companies. I recommend them and if need be, then I would use their services in the future too.

Dale was very professional, knew his stuff, explained the costs up front and how the underground splice kit works. He was very friendly, fast, and trustworthy. In about an hours time he dug up the electrical wire, installed the splice kit, and reburied the wire. Price was a little higher than I was hoping (I knew this up front), but I felt like I paid for the professional experience which is what I wanted for this job. Will use again in the future.

Dale Miller (owner) first called and spent considerable time on the phone with me to see if we could troubleshoot the problem together (which he would not have charged me for), then sent a technician (Zack) out first who found an obvious problem with one outside outlet and repaired that. When that didn't solve the whole problem, Dale himself came out promptly and spent a great deal more time further testing the entire circuit. At first I didn't feel I should have to pay for the second visit, but after seeing how thoroughly he went about things and how much time he spent I insisted several times that he accept some payment. Dale refused to take a check from me. He was on time, pleasant, knowledgeable and thorough, and stuck with the problem until it was solved. I won't call anyone else in the future.

The whole process was great from start to finish. Miller was actually willing to make the appointment much sooner than I could do it. He came to the house and got right to work. He was friendly and professional and got the work done quickly. As an aside, my husband called Mr. Miller before he came over to ask whether we needed some sort of protective device on some of our equipment. Mr. Miller could have made money off of us, but, instead, he told my husband that installing the device would cost a whole lot of money for somethat that really wasn't very necessary. I will also add that the appointment was scheduled for 11 a.m. Mr. Miller was late, but he called right at 11 a.m. to say he was running about 18 minutes late and ask if it was still ok with me. Exactly 18 minutes later, he showed up. I think he was very honest and he did good work. I will definitely use him again next time I need electrical work.

We called them and fixed an appointment. They put us off for 2 weeks and then called and cancelled the appointment on 2 occasions. But, they did call and apologized as somebody had gone to the hospital and that was why they could not make it up, and at one time, they were on vacation. They had reasons for them not to get to us. But, we needed the work to be done as we were getting some insulation done in our addict. We needed the electrical work done, so that the insulation could be done, so we called somebody else on the list.

After living in a new (to us) house for a month, I made the mistake of turning on the kitchen lights, which apparently was able to turn off all the lights in the back half of the house. Now that's a feature! I checked the breaker, and it was fine. I beat on the walls to see if there was a loose wire somewhere, and nothing. A similar problem had been discovered while I was replacing the smoke detector battery in the first half of the house, and when I jiggled the smoke detector wires the front lights would flicker. I removed the rear smoke detector in the hopes there was a similar problem, but nope, nothing again. I called Miller & Miller and left a voice mail describing my problem, and got a return phone call later that day. An appointment was set up for Monday on the following week (it was Thursday that I called). Promptly at 8:30 their tech arrived, and I told him everything I've said here. He took some switches out and tested them. He then poked at the *front* smoke detector wires and *poof* all the lights came one. Score one for the electricians, score zero for me (had I just checked the front connection one more time!). He fixed a bad connection in the junction box, put everything back together and that was that. Even though it was something I could have fixed had I kept looking, I'm glad I called them. The work was done quickly, professionally, and I don't worry about turning on the lights any more.

The work went very well. Zack from Miller & Miller has had many years of residential electrical experience during the home build stage and so he understands how the houses are put together and where he can or cannot run cables in a finished home. This knowledge was useful since I was requesting that cabling be ran to places that I was not even sure how he was going to get to or was even possible. Zack arrived on time for the scheduled work and he quickly assessed the situation for my request. He validated the specific locations that I was requesting the speaker wires be placed as well as the placement of the cable/speaker wire box. He cut holes where they were needed and was able to pull the wires through without any complications. He even labeled all of the wires for me so that I would know which wires would go to which speakers. The work was completed and I did not have to do any patching or painting to the walls. One thing to note is that even though Miller & Miller ran the wires to be invisible & professional, they will not install or mount the speakers themselves. This finish work is the responsibility of the homeowner and they did let me know this up front and so I had no issues with mounting the speakers myself.
Description of Work: I recently purchased a Surround Sound System for my Home Entertainment System. I wanted the wires for the side speakers and rear speakers to be hidden behind the walls/ceiling. I also wanted an additional cable for my TV on a different wall and for all cables/wires to terminate there. I contacted Miller & Miller to run the wires behind the walls for a professional installation with no visible wires connecting to my Home Entertainment System.

I was disappointed with the communication with owner Dale Miller about the fan. He did not say that they do not take apart fans to fix them (as the technician reported upon arrival today). I was expecting the repairman to take it apart to diagnose and repair the fan (like my other appliances). If I had known that their policy is to either "fiddle" with the outside of the fan or replace it, I would have "fiddled" with it myself. Dale did, however, recommend that we purchase a replacement fan in advance in case they could not "fix" the current one. I did shop locally for one but could not find a good quality fan over the weekend to replace ours, if needed. (I was prepared to buy one online later). As it turned out, the fan blade mechanism was just tilted a little (maybe from the kids hitting it with something?). Bottom line - if I had known that they don't really repair fans, only replace them, I would have tried to see if I could tilt the blades myself and saved myself $125 or, if I couldn't fix it myself, ordered a nice quality fan online and have them install it later.
Description of Work: I requested service on a ceiling fan that was making a rubbing noise (from being tilted a little?). The service technician noticed that the fan blade mechanism had some play in it and manually tilted the blades until it didn't rub anymore. He said that they do not take apart fans - only replace them.

Overall, it went well. Zack arrived on time at 8 am. There was some confusion about connecting my over-the-counter lights in the kitchen. I had spoken to Dale about hardwiring the lighting but apparently they thought I just wanted switched outlets for it. After talking to Dale, Zack went ahead with the work and completed the other items as well. The work took longer due to the miscommunication and cost a bit more than anticipated as a result. I had also wanted a new bathroom fan installed but Zack wasn't sure that it was possible without damaging the ceiling. Dale called that evening and offered to come over and look at it himself. He did and we agreed that it would probably require repair work afterwards so we decided to skip it for the time being. Dale did not charge anything for the additional visit and consultation.

Dale demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the Code. He was very organized. It seemed likely the job would be done well. I chose not to hire Miller & Miller for two reasons. First, they and I are quite busy and working out a mutually acceptable time was not proving to be easy. Also, I found another electrician willing to do the work to Code and my specifications for several hundred dollars less.
