I was pleased with their work. They installed a ceiling fan that I had purchased and it turned out the old one did not have the proper ceiling fan hardware. So they had to actually do more work than had anticipated. But they did it quickly and did it right.

Review of Miller and Miller Electric We had a heated tile floor installed on a concrete floor in the family room and adjacent bedroom on the lower level of a split level house. The final stage involved connecting the sub-tile electric tape mat to nearby thermostats to be wired to the circuit breaker box at the far end of the house. This excellent work was performed by Carl and Ricky of Miller and Miller Electric of Raleigh, NC Despite the fact that this turned out to be a much more complicated process than anticipated, Carl and Ricky never complained, remained focused and calm, and continued to analyze the situation as necessary to solve problems. And, Dale Miller, the co-owner of the company, contributed his thoughts and supervised the work. Because of the split level design of the house and the considerable horizontal and vertical distances between the thermostats and breakers, the wires connected to new breakers had to be run through one of the two parts of the attic and then down through a kitchen wall to the thermostats mounted on the family room wall via the hung ceiling of the adjacent bathroom. This required essentially connecting two separate parts of the house while working around appliances and a shower. To accomplish this, they had to use an enormously long drill bit, drill through multiple layers of studs, and fish wires from the attic to the destination while communicating continuously between levels. It really was like working the way through a maze. Yet Carl and Ricky never lost their patience or composure and used their brains and brawn to succeed. Ultimately, they did succeed. Once they delivered the wire to its intended site, the wall where the thermostats were mounted, a final complication was that they had to remove paneling from that wall to feed the wires to the conduit at the base of the wall. To minimize damage to the structure and appearance of that wall, Ricky managed to cut out a large section of the heavy duty paneling with a utility knife, and then replaced it, so carefully that (once touched up a bit with paint) it is difficult or impossible to know that had been done. I was apprehensive about that approach but Ricky?s careful cutting made it effective. Subsequently, Ricky returned to test the thermostats and demonstrate their programming. We are grateful to have warm feet and a warm room, especially during cold winter evenings. Thank you Carl and Ricky and Miller and Miller Electric for a job well done. We are very pleased with the way you approached our situation, how you solved a difficult problem, and with the outcome.

For some reason, neither our back deck, back porch, nor front porch had any electrical outlets (making it very hard for holiday lights, radios, and using many tools). 2 of the outlets were easily added with no impact because there were interior plugs opposite them. The front porch plug required cutting a whole in the interior garage wall to access a drop coming from a bonus room on the second floor. Our office badly needed an overhead light and fan. a few holes had to be cut so the line could be fished through the wall to where the switches would be located. Patching is to be handled by a paint crew doing a whole-house job in the near future.
Description of Work: Installed 3 exterior outlets outlets and added a ceiling fan junction box and dual switch to an office.

I was able to schedule an appointment within a week of calling. Joe called me the morning of the appointment and provided an accurate estimate of his arrival to my home. He arrived right on time. He exchanged a chandelier in my dining room and installed a recessed light in my laundry room. He was efficient and clean. He vacuumed the laundry room after installing the light! The work was completed quickly and the final cost was the same as the estimate. I will use Miller & Miller for all my future electrical needs!

Their guys gave really helpful advice that saved some time and installation headaches. They were on time, fast, polite, and really professional. They instilled a lot of confidence as they worked and talked us through the various tasks. They took care of the house with drop cloths and tidied up before they left. They were great with our dogs too. Awesome - just awesome!

They called to indicate they were running late for a 12:00 appt and would be here by 2:00. No word until I called back at 3:40 asking for an update. I was told they couldn't come and asked if I wanted to set something up for next week. i can't do business with a company that doesn't communicate with its customers. Thank goodness I work from home and didn't take time off of work for this.... I have had previously favorable experiences with them so not sure what happened to cause this to go south.

I just spoke with [removed member name] and explained to her that this was totally my fault. I had a medical emergency over the weekend and I totally messed up the schedule yesterday and did not give our Tech enough time to do the first job I sent him on. These customers are some of our best and loyal and I don't blame them for being a little upset. I am doing much better now and I am very happy that they understood after I explained to them what had happened. Not an excuse but it is the truth and I am taking total responsibility. I chose Miller & Miller because of my phone call to them. I needed some GFIs put in the kitchen and possibly other bathrooms. Dale, an electrician, got on the phone with me and told me how to determine whether the one GFI protected all of the bathrooms. This was a fabulous bit of education!! As a DIY homeowner, I was very pleased to be able to diagnose that piece myself and very appreciative of his willingness to share that knowledge over the phone with me! For the appointment itself, the tech was on time. He encountered oddities in the wiring on one circuit which required some excellent problem solving skills and an excellent knowledge of house wiring. He fixed the odd wiring (2 circuits were wired together) and installed the kitchen GFIs. The light fixture went up easily as did the dimmer switch. The tech was courteous, professional, neat and knowledgeable. He donned booties to keep the new carpet clean. I would readily hire Miller and Miller again even though their rate was slightly hire than a couple of others I contacted.

After getting a quote for a ceiling fan install to replace our chandelier, the worker showed up at the scheduled time. After taking a look at our odd lighting situation, he had to go into the attic and do some work to disconnect the chandelier. He then provided me options for how to install the new light (I decided to forego the ceiling fan in favor of a less obtrusive light fixture). From there, he installed the new light and I was good to go. Since it wasn't a fan install, it came in less than the quote and he was done in an hour. Already thinking what other projects I may need them to tackle in the future.

I was very happy with the quick response time. Miller & Miller were able to get someone to my home in Raleigh early the next day. They discovered that the breaker was throwing because of a crimped wire in the crowded outdoor junction box and were able to rewire it. They also added a photo sensor I had purchased to the box to keep the lights from going on during daylight hours. The work was performed quickly but in a very thorough and professional manner. I highly recommend Miller & Miller electric.

I highly recommend Dale Miller and his team at Miller & Miller electric. I have used them for over 8 years for small and medium projects at my home. They are always professional, prompt and thorough. I trust them implicitly (even in my home when I'm not there). When they discover the source of an issue, they provide options and recommendations so even someone with my non-electrical background can understand the situation. On one occasion, Dale even walked me through some fixes over the phone (and didn't charge me). They are my sole go-to source any time I'm doing home improvements that require electrical work.

Got a phone call responding to my email inquiry the same day. Made an appointment for Dale to come out and estimate the ceiling job and perform some smaller work at the same time. Dale's knowledge and confidence in their ability to properly execute the work sold me-we had been talking about doing this work for quite a long time but hesitated because we knew the job would be difficult based on limited access (installing can lights in an 11' ceiling with heavy trim and coffersand without access from above). The work was scheduled and permitted, and everything went according to plan. The techs were polite, courteous, and clean. The outcome was better than we could have anticipated-the lighting has transformed the room. I would call on Dale and GaIl Miller again without hesitation--I am very satisfied. To be honest, I probably could have found someone to do this job a bit less expensively, but you get what you pay for.

Had some chronic problems with old and new appliances and decided to have an electrician check things out before calling appliance repair service or replacing a brand new dishwasher. I am so glad I did! Unbeknownst to me there were a number of electrical problems with the kitchen wiring, some potential fire hazards. From my initial conversation with the very knowledgeable Gail to the expert skill of Dale it was an excellent experience from beginning to end. They are a small family-owed company who are very meticulous. Though they were booked ahead 2 1/2 weeks, they gave me an option of a very early morning appt. within a few days. I liked the fact that they wanted specific details about what was going with the appliance ahead of time, instead of just showing up to find out. I received both an e-mail and phone confirmation of my appt. Dale searched extensively to find origins of bad connections, including going way back, down underneath house to check possible sources of other problems. Also checked out a couple more outlets that looked questionable. Discovered at least 2 potential sources of fire hazard. Worked continuously and diligently for 2 1/2 hours. Excellent customer service, reasonably priced, excellent electrical skill and knowledge and just really nice folks! What more could you ask for?

Dale was wonderful. Was on time to review the project details and spent time walking the house to prepare an estimate for additional electrical upgrades and repairs. The following day the electrician on the job was polite, efficient, and did high quality work. Miller & Miller was highly recommended by Angie's List customers and the fireplace company I was working with, so I trusted I didn't need an estimate. Not getting an estimate or learning about Miller & Miller's fee structure was my mistake. When the installation was complete, the electrician discovered the breaker switch to be out of code for a living space. At that point, the electrician drove to a nearby Home Depot to pick up a new Eaton Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) breaker for $37.50. While I appreciate the initiative to fix the outdated breaker, Miller & Miller charged me almost double for the breaker... $75. While I understand the need for companies to mark up products to cover their real costs, Miller & Miller not only marked up the product by double, but then charged me the technician's time at the professional rate of $95 per hour to go to the store to buy the breaker. Decide for yourself if that is an ethical business practice, but I've never worked with a group that both charged me an hourly rate to buy an item, then add a 100% markup. When I brought this to the attention of Dale and Gail Miller, their offer was to refund $10. I did not push the issue with Miller & Miller because I was hoping to continue to work with them on future products and assumed they would "make up" for it on the estimate for future work. The estimate arrived today and based on 2 clearly defined projects, the Miller & Miller estimate was 30% and 50% higher than 2 other highly rated local electricians on Angie's List. I will not be working with them in the future. As I shared with the Millers, I can't get past them charging me $95 per hour to run an errand, then charge me double for the purchase.

Thank you for taking the time to review our service. These reviews are very important to us as we do our best to satisfy each customer to the best of our ability. When Dale met with you he did his best to give you a close estimate for the job, that was around 3 hours and about $100.00 in parts, your bill was for 2.75 hours of labor and $110.00 for parts, pretty close to the original estimate. Having said that we purchase 90% of our materials from qualified parts stores and the price of our materials are sometimes more expensive than the big box stores. The reason we do this is simply because most people do not realize that when customers return items that don't work to the big box stores they often times get put back on the shelf and resold as new. This is the point the customer will become very angry when we have to charge them for the time it takes to install it, find out it doesn't work, return it the store and re-install it, all the time paying a Tech so we lose money. It is a huge insurance policy for us to purchase the amount of materials we use at our supply stores. In your particular case we had no choice but to go to Home Depot because there was not a supply store near you and we were working on a timeline. Our Tech's have a price sheet that is based on the prices we charge for materials based on what we have to pay at the supply stores. Most customers think we get a huge discount; however, because we are a small company we don't.. Also, we warranty those materials purchased from our supplier for 1 year. In your case the Tech used the price sheet; however, we do have 2 similar types of breakers that we use and he looked at the wrong line, it should have been $65.00. We have to charge for travel time, the material is for you, not for us. Because this is not our normal practice we should have charged you the $37.50 plus tax, so I am refunding you $37.50. As far as your estimate for the rest of your work, it is purely an estimate, we work time and material as opposed to giving quotes and doing change orders; a a game many play. We have earned our reputation the old fashion way, by being honest and up-front and doing it right the first time. When shopping for the bottom price one must be very careful to find out if the contractor has a license, insurance, do they pay worker's comp if they have Tech's? It's a slippery slope with "cheap" estimates. There is a cost of doing business and we have a professional business from qualified, educated, uniformed and trustworthy Tech's (that we pay a handsome salary in order to retain them), to having a warehouse and all of the necessary business licensees we need for every town/city in the Triangle. We are very up-front with our charges and how we work, I don't know how you missed that. I feel in your case that this is the right thing to do, but it was an honest mistake and something we usually never do because we don't shop the HD's. We wish you the best in your projects going forward.
Everything went perfectly! From the minute I started working with Dale on the work to be done, to the completion of service, it was all seamless. Dale and Gail were extremely responsive, efficient and professional. They were able to send me a detailed quote on a very timely basis and scheduled the work shortly thereafter. I love working with a business who uses technology to communicate! The electricians arrived today exactly on time at 8:30am, along with a timely email from Dale to confirm the service and price. The men worked in such a efficient manner that I couldn't believe my lights AND fans were done by 2pm! The lighting looks amazing and the new fans are perfect. The rooms were spotless when they were done, and I had a chance to inspect the lights and fans to be sure work was done properly. I am so happy with this work that I am already planning my next lighting project with Miller & Miller! Thanks Dale and crew!!!!

Excellent service all the way around. Highly recommend this company. Price was a bit high but that is because they had 2 instead of only 1 guy available on such short notice. Normally for only 1 person it would have only been $90.00....so am not complaining!
Description of Work: Small problem with electrical in garage--and impacted garage door opening...it was Friday a.m. and concerned for week-end and leaving garage open. Gail promptly answered phone and was able to send Steve and Jordan out in p.m. They were both very knolwedgeable and professional..
