Chris was punctual and very professional. I am very satisfied with the work he did, and I was especially pleased with how he cleaned up after all the work was done. I know the cost may seem high, but I appreciate the fact that Michael and Sons offers Saturday appointments so I don't have to take time off from work. It was nice to have the flexibility to schedule this at a time that was convenient for me. This is my third experience with Michael and Sons, and I haven't been disappointed.
Description of Work: I purchased the Home Care Agreement, and in addition, Chris installed 2 ceiling fans, removed a range hood and replaced it with a microwave oven, and performed an electrical inspection on my home.

Informed us that two commodes needed a minor overhaul. Also explained and tried to sell us on an expensive water filtration system. The estimate for the minor overhauls was over $300. We declined and I ended up doing them myself with parts from Home Depot that cost less than $50. Service was ok, although one of the commodes started leaking following the inspection, but I was able to fix that leak following the overhaul (replaced the flapper and fill valve). Overall, felt like the visit was more of a sales pitch than a real inspection and service call, especially when it came to the water filtration pitch. Would most likely not use this provider again as a result.

It was a rather difficult process since the cleanout was located several feet below air conditioner's slab, but everything went well. Brad, the gentleman with whom we dealt, was very courteous and professional, worked very hard, and did a great job with the repairs. In addition, the company completed the work quickly and was very flexible in terms of payment which we appreciated.
Description of Work: We had a stopped up sewer line, and we hired them to locate and remove the source of the clog as part of a Big Deal that we had purchased.

When Mark arrived, I expected the same story. It's "not our problem" call your washer manufacturer! Instead of passing the buck, Mark did a thorough exam of all the problem areas and replaced a part at the kitchen sink we didn't know existed. He never said he couldn't fix the leak, it was not his problem, but went around the house and never gave up until he found a solution. Mark is an exceptional professional! That's what a good plumber should be.
Description of Work: We have had an ongoing plumbing problem with a new washer in our home for the past two months. We called plumbers and the warranty on the machine to figure out the problem and fix the leak in our pipe.

The repairman was VERY polite and considerate, but the rates charged re-absorbed the AngiesList "Deal." ...You KNOW you're in trouble when the repairman pulls up in a Mercedes service van...

When I scheduled the appointment, they first offered me a window from noon until 6pm. I explained that I had to leave my home a little after 5pm so they said that they could make the window be from noon to 4pm. I waited in my house FOUR hours, carrying my phone with me every minute to make sure that I didn't miss the call, and they never came. At 4:00, I called and was told that he was probably on his way. Two thoughts about that: 1. A four-hour window is a long time. It's reasonable to assume that a company asking for an arrival window is allowing enough time to compensate for the uncertainty of how long earlier jobs will take. This is something the company does every day. They should have some idea how the scheduling usually works out. If it's not enough possible to arrive within a given window, then they're scheduling too many jobs in a day and assuming our time isn't worth as much as their time. 2. If something unusual happened, everybody has a phone. if you promise to arrive at a certain time, and especially if you promise to arrive within a window of time, you call if you're late. You call before 4pm.

Technician scheduled for service on guardian residential generator, where starter motor pinion gear was not engaging with flywheel to crank engine. The company required a $29 dispatch fee and a $205 diagnostic fee to begin work and repairs would have been additional. I told the tech that it was clearly the starter, since the pinion was not engaging with the flywheel and cranking engine (Sound from starter motor demonstrated motor operation without engine crank).. His response was that the starter motor was engaging, demonstrating lack of knowledge and skill for basic engine repair. Based on the confidence I had in the tech, I chose to decline service and save $205 which was required for their "diagnostic" fee I did pay their required $29 dispatch fee. (dispatch fees are credited back if repair is contracted) I was aware of the dispatch fee, but the diagnostic fee was not disclosed when I scheduled service. If I had known about the diagnostic fee, I would not have chose to do business with this company.

The last time I used them they moved an outlet for me, however I felt like I was under time constraint and it was overpriced. Today I needed a leaking faucet in a town home I just sold repaired immediately. I was told they would be here today between 12pm and 4pm and they called to reschedule at 3:30pm, so I am just going to hire someone else.

I called Michael and Son on April 7th regarding the electrical outlets in my kitchen. I had 4 that were not working. The customer service representative was very pleasant and scheduled an appointment for me on April 11th from 2-6. On April 11th, I received a call from Michael and Son at 2 pm stating the electrician would not be able to make it to my home that day and would have to reschedule. I asked how that happened and it was explained to me that when there are appointments where only an estimate is requested, and the customer wants the work to start then, they go ahead with that job and back up the other customers. That being the case, my rescheduled appointment could be moved again. I was also told that afternoon appointments are more likely to get bumped. That seems like a very strange way to handle business. I chose not to deal with them.

The work was excellent and I was very satisfied with the results. This was my first time using Michael and Son and I decided to use their services after receiving a few other quotes from other companies. They were on time and explained in detail what they were doing so I knew the procedure and time it would take for the projects they did in my house. All of the technicans were professional and were respectful of my house and making sure they cleaned up after they left. I would definately use them in the future as now I have contacts for my heat pump, electricity and plumbing should the need ever arise again.

It is a big deal purchase of $119 for $200 of professional plumbing service. That was fine. That went well. They were very professional. They showed up on time and I appreciated the work that they did. They did a lot of work. I used it shortly thereafter. There was a lot of additional charge. The approximate ending cost about $2000 or $3000 I can’t remember exactly.

Technician Brian Thompson arrived around 8am and assessed the condition of the toilet. He explained the options of rebuilding the toilet or replacing it, and the costs of each. He also reported that the compression valve was broken, which is why I was not able to turn the water off completely. He recommended replacing it while working on the toilet. My other option was to leave it and use the main valve, turning off all water in the house. I elected to replace both the toilet and the valve. Brian asked my toilet preferences, i.e. round or oval, standard height or ADA height. He answered my questions about the differences between Michael & Son toilets vs Home Depot toilets. Brian left my house to obtain the toilet. He returned, removed and installed toilet and valve, and cleaned, all by 10 am. Brian Thompson is a professional. He works efficiently, neatly, provides thorough and convincing explanations, and ensures that his customer is satisfied. I will continue to use Michael & Son and request Brian Thompson for my plumbing needs. I am happy with my ADA height Kohler toilet!

Saturday. 11:30 AM. Placed a call to Michael and Son. AC had frozen solid and was not cooling. Thomas arrived at 1:00PM. Well within the 12:00 to 4:00 window. Very professional and courteous. I was later contacted and told they couldn't make the Sunday appointment and the next soonest appointment was another five days away. I went with another provider who could perform the services much sooner. Even though I didn't use Michael & Sons everyone I spoke to was very nice and apologetic.

I called this company when I had an email from the company that is renting our home from us and using it as a group home, that they had no hot water. I called Michael and Son who I found on Angie's List and they had a plumber go out the next morning and I was going to have them do electrical work as well as the company told me it was not hooked up to the electrical box but when the plumber arrived, he was told that the company's handyman had taken care of the problem and the service was no longer needed. We were never told of this by the rental company which did not please us! However, we will certainly use this company in the future for any of the services they provide as will our son and wife who live in Raleigh, NC. They were most gracious and we would highly recommend them!

The plumber arrived within an hour of calling me back. He was courteous and did repairs in the freezing cold and dark, no problem. He replaced my old spigot with a freeze proof valve. The work was done well. I do think the price was a little high.
Description of Work: Michael and Son sent an emergency plumber to my home when an outside water spigot burst in the extreme cold. It was after hours. The spigot was repaired and an additional water cut off was installed on the inside pipe leading to the outside spigot.

Difficulties with arranging mutual times with the technician for the estimate and the actual work to be done. Technician gave me a time frame for the work to be done between 2-6 pm, but told me he would call me at 1:00 pm to advise as to his estimated time he would be at my house. He did not call which forced me to leave work in a hurry to be at my home by 2:00 pm. It was just an unnecessary hassle that could have been avoided if he had simply called me as promised. My time is just as valuable as his!! I don't have time to mess with this type of service. I do want to point out that the plumbing manager did offer 10% off the job for my troubles, but I just decided to go elsewhere.

We replaced our counters and sink but opted not to have the counter company perform the faucet and sink hookup. Michael and Son had an Angie's List deal running at the time so we purchased a coupon for them to come do the work. Our sink is over a small space that just contains it, and with the undercount the garbage disposal just fit with room to connect to the drain pipe. The plumber performed several feats worth lauding. He detached the garbage disposal from the old sink without breaking its plastic collar despite the fact that it's getting on in years and not in the best shape. He was able to fit all the pieces together under the sink so it all drained smoothly - watching him work at it was like watching real life Tetris. He also swapped the basket provided for the non-disposal side of the sink with one from his company at no additional cost to enable the pipes to fit. My only gripe is that there was a bit of a sales pitch for their other subscription services and water purifying equipment. He mentioned how much animal fecal matter is to be found in our water supply which I don't believe since I actually read the annual reports from our water provider (I'm an odd bird). After we got through that, though, the work was very professionally done. The company is a bit on the pricey side but do good work for the money. While I would consider using them again i would also be sure to get a few competing bids before signing my name on any line.
