For plumbing I am using Michael and Son. My experience with Michael and Son has been great, great. I have used them multiple times. I would grade them an 'A'. They have not only plumbing but heating, air and electrical so when I am using subs having one company that does all that is very helpful.
Description of Work: I am using Michael and Son now. It is a renovation and they are putting a new plumbing in the whole house, all, everything.

Do you want the "Cadillac" of plumbers in the Raleigh area? The chose Michael & Son. Do you want one of the most expensive plumbing firms in the Raleigh area? Then choose Michael & Son. My wife discovered a leak under the kitchen sink on Saturday and wanted it fixed immediately. I called Michael & Son based upon my son's recommendation. Plumber came out as an "emergency call", inspected the problem area and told us that we needed a new faucet. We informed the service technician to order a new faucet that my wife had chosen and it was to be installed on the following Saturday - 7 days later. We were adamant about it could only be installed on any Saturday. Six days later the faucet arrived at Michael & Son. The service department called my house, no one was home and left a message that the installation would take place on Monday. On Friday evening around 8:00PM we returned home and saw that there was an incoming call on the answering machine. We called to advise them that Monday was not acceptable and needed Saturday Service. The service desk person stated she would notify the service dispatcher that we needed a service appointment for Saturday. Saturday morning around 8:00 am I called Michael & Son to check on my service appointment. No service appointment had been scheduled She said that she would call the technician to inform him that the service order needed to be completed today. After an hour I called Michael & Son to see about my service appointment. I was told that it would be done that day somewhere between Noon and 4:00PM. 4:00PM arrived and no technician on site. I called Michael & Son again and was now told that there was a problem where the technician was located and now service would be between 4:00PM and 8:00PM. 8:00PM came and went still no service. Another call to Michael & Son and I was told that my problem would be corrected on Sunday between 8:00AM and 5:00PM. I told the service dispatcher that it was unacceptable and I wanted to talk to the service technician. At 9:00PM I spoke to the service technician. Since he had been working for the last 14+ hours he asked if the service could be done on Sunday. I agreed to this on the condition that I would be the first service call on Sunday. He told me that he would be at my house somewhere between 8:00AM and 8:30AM. At 8:15AM on Sunday the service technician arrived and installed the new faucet. He also told me that Sunday was an unscheduled day for him but due to the situation and the fact that I was not happy with Michael & Son that he would performed the install. Four days later I checked my charge account used only to find out that the amount charged was different than the amount quoted. Another call to Michael & Son this time to the billing department. Spoke with billing department Manager and informed him as to how I was treated as a first time customer. We agreed upon a $239 refund to be applied to my account. Problem seems to be with the clerical functions of Michael & Son. During that Saturday I spoke to service desk personnel in Raleigh, dispatcher located in Raleigh, dispatcher located in Richmond, Virginia, answering service in Indianapolis, service technician in Raleigh and the on call plumbing technician in Raleigh. The on call technician offered to come at 10:00PM and I informed him no since he did not have the faucet since the faucet was with the Raleigh service technician. BOTTOM LINE: This experience made me feel like I was a prisoner for the entire day. When the initial call was made to Michael & Son and told them that I was a new first time customer her remarks were that It would be a "wonderful" experience and thank me for choosing Michael & Son. I was expecting to receive the "Disney" experience but rather I received the "Goofy" experience. As for cost the original amount quoted was $850.97 with the faucet cost of $329.00. This turns out to be a labor cost of $521.97 for 90 minutes of installation work. Another way to state this would be $5.80 a minute or labor cost of $348.00 an hour.

The plumber arrived on time, reviewed what work we needed to have done, and then inspected the house's plumbing system. The total scope of the job was to replace 3 leak valves and the water pressure reduction valve. He did all of this work in about 2 hours. The plumber was friendly and very professional in his work. I really didn't like the price, but typically when you hire a professional it is a set price for a specific service, and not time and materials.
Description of Work: Appointment was made to repair 3 leaky turnoff valves, and after inspecting our home's plumbing system, the water pressure valve had to also be replaced.

This was all a set up, he took forever to do electrical work for me. This is a scam, the company defended this guy and he didnt even know what he was doing. They made me look like I didnt know what I was talking about and lying. I feel like they pay off people to say good things about them, this is like a francise. He tried to make me pay THOUSANDS for a small job. Really thought he was going to damage my home.

It went well from start to finish. I did not expect the job to be done in less than 2 hours. Todd was absolutely very professional, punctual & easy to talk to. He spends so much time in getting the answers of my questions. Cost of service was pretty straight forward. I was definitely satisfied with deal I got. I would love to hire him in a heartbeat!

Went very well. Described what the heating company said to the technician. He confirmed that was the issue. Told me what the total charge would be for the service (the coupon discounted it some..). And then on my approval, fixed it.

They were very professional and very prompt, courteous. They had all the supplies and everything ready to work. The only problem with them was everything was perfect with the exception of the prices. I thought their prices were steep. I did need them to put the hot water heater in, but they charged me additional $600 for that and I had to get somebody else to do it. They are a good company and they did quality work. I just found somebody that was more little more cheaper and that offering the same quality of work and professionalism. If I afford them I certainly would always call them again.

I called the company on a Saturday because we had a dishwasher delivered by Home Depot, and the guys that were contracted to install it said they couldn't do the work (we think they just didn't want to deal with it, so they told us we had to hire someone else). So we called M&S and they were able to have someone out here by the next day, which was a Sunday. Pete was our plumber and he was terrific. He was on time, professional, did great work and asked if we had any questions or needed anything different done with the install. We really enjoyed having him around on a Sunday afternoon! Everyone we talked to at the company was very helpful and responsive, and they even told us about coupons they were offering. We were grateful to find them and be able to get the work done since someone else left us in the lurch. We'll definitely use them again!

Extremely prompt, same day service. Courteous and professional. I was amazed they were able to come the same day I called, that was great. I thought the price for two fixtures was high, although I understand a box needed to be added where the builder had direct wired the horrible florescent light into the ceiling - I expected that to take longer and be more expensive. The second light took just minutes to install, so I thought that should have been less expensive.

The equipment is working fine. All three company representatives were friendly and easy to work with.
Description of Work: A company representative showed up promptly at 9 AM the day he was scheduled. He was courteous, took pictures of a "difficult" location to mount a furnace mounted fan humidifier, and called the office to make sure it could be installed correctly in that location. He returned to the office and called me back with the price quote within the hour and also sent me the estimate by email. A week later, as scheduled, the service man arrived on time and installed the humidifier. He notified the office that an electrical outlet had to be installed which was done at the scheduled time two days later.

I have 3 ceiling fans. Each one had a single wall switch that turned on both the light and the fan. Each of the fixtures have 2 pull cords, one for the light the other for the fan. I wanted 2 wall switches, one for the fan and one for the light. When I scheduled the appointment the woman I spoke with on the phone asked if my ceiling fans had been installed by an electrician or by a home owner. I said they were there when I bought the house and I didn't know. They then asked if each fan had an electrical box. Again I said I didn't know. They explained that if there was no electrical box one would have to be installed and if that was the case the cost would be around $250 per fan. They asked if I had an accessible attic. I said yes, that there was a folding ceiling ladder for access and a light. After the electrician had completed evaluation of the fan setup in the attic I asked whether the fans had boxes or not. He said yes they did have boxes, and so he would not have to install any boxes. The electrician spent a total of around 3 hours replacing the GFI receptacle and wiring the switches for the ceiling fans with lights. For that amount of time and work I was charged $817 which is way over priced for the installation of the fan switches. I do not believe the pricing was the doing of the electrician who did the work. I think the price was set by the office staff after I made the phone call to confirm the Angie's List deal, i.e. before they knew whether the fans had boxes or not. No complaints otherwise. He arrived on time. His appearance was neat and professional as were all interactions.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced a GFI receptacle $93.85 Provided and installed switch for existing ceiling fan with attic access 3 @ $241.08 each for a total of $723.24 This was an Angie's List deal.

I had a ceiling medallion I wanted to use with my new dining room light, but he told me that the base plate on the light was too big,so he installed the light without it. After he left I measured both and found it would fit, so I called the company and the next day he came back and took the light down and put the medallion along with the chandelier back up.

They were fine. The service tech was great, and they were on time, and they were friendly. I thought they were a bit expensive, and when I was using the Angie's List app, I didn't think they would come out to give me an estimate first, I thought I would just have to snap a picture, and it would speed things up. They did good work, they also do heating and air conditioning, instead of just plumbing only, so it would be helpful to call one company for all 3 services.

I had Michael and Son out to quote installation of 3 outlets and a flood light. The gentleman that came out was courteous and professional, and then he presented the quote... It is all automated through their tablets, so it wasn't different than it would have been for someone else. That being said, the quote was extremely steep and not even close to what the value of the work would be. A GC friend of mine was actually there at the time and was floored by the estimate, saying it was at least 3x what it should be. There was no pressure and the electrician was nice and honest, but there would be ZERO chance of me accepting that quote.

I've had Chase out 2 times in the last couple of months. Once for an AC problem with a Start Capacitor and today for to solve my heating issue where I was getting ignitor faults and eventually locking the the unit out until I reset the breaker. Let me start by saying I've watched a few YouTube videos and as I mentioned earlier, I asked Chase a lot of questions, so I'm probably not your typical residential customer. So this is what happened: Chase diagnosed the issue by systematically checking each step of the ignite process. That the inducer motor was starting, gas valve was opening, the ignitor was lighting, and that the burner tubes were not letting the flame jump across all 3 tubes. He explained that this was likely due to rust on the burner tubes preventing the flame from burning correctly. Chase disconnected the GAS line, shutoff the breaker, disconnected the GAS manifold and removed the burner tube assembly. From there is took the assembly apart and showed me the clogged air holes and massive rust deposits on the end of the tubes which he indicated was causing the problem. With a small pick, he cleaned out the air holes and using a steel brush removed the rust off the end of the tubes. Then with a fine grit sand paper polished the flaming sensing rods to ensure that when the flame does ignite across the tubes the flame sensor is aware that it is on and working. What I liked most about each of Chase's service calls was he demeanor. He is a laid back and easy going guy happy to discuss the issues and does not feel there is anything wrong with being asked questions about the service being performed. If/when I need service int the future, I will ask if Chase is available since the experience was excellent and the outcome each time has been great.
Description of Work: Chase with Michael and Son spent about 2 hours ensuring that my intermittent heating problems were solved. I watched over his work and it was easiest for me to cut the description from the electronic invoice to describe all that was done. In short Chase was extremely knowledgeable and was very cheerful in answering my never ending list of questions about what he was doing and why. I like to know why things are being done and how it solves my problem rather than just writing a check and blindly hoping the issue is fixed. Serviced and inspected furnace. Checked and set thermostat. Checked and inspected the gas pressure, and the flame. Checked the house for carbon monoxide. There was none found. Checked all safety devices. Pulled, inspected, and cleaned burners. Checked blower motor amperage's and capacitor. Checked blower wheel for cleanliness. Pulled and cleaned flame sensor. Checked to make sure flue pipe is secured properly. Checked heat exchanger for any rusting or cracks. Checked all piping and gas valve for gas leaks. Checked the temperature of the return and supply temperatures.
