Michael & Son

We had recently bought our house and, in the course of the first winter, discovered carbon monoxide due to a leak in the (recalled) ventilation system which was somehow missed in the inspection. As there were several others concerns besides the HVAC, we went with M&S because they service electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems and can group and finance this work into one package. I called to schedule and they were able to come out the next morning to inspect our electrical, plumbing and HVAC and got us quotes that day. Because all of these things were bundled, they were able to give us some deals here and there. They were good about explaining the issues and showing the problems when requested. We ended up getting a needing a new furnace and ventilation system as they were irreparable issues, and getting all new ductwork and a new AC unit as these were both dated and would need to be replaced within a short period of time (I didn't want to deal with the AC going out in August which, knowing my luck, would have been the case). We also had the water heater checked out and the tank was leaking and had some plumbing issues. We decided to go ahead and get an in-line water heater installed as well, as this was probably going to need replacement shortly. The HVAC team was out to the house by 8 the following morning to begin. They tore all of the old system out and disposed of it, and installed the new system; they completed the work by Saturday afternoon but we had the heat back on Friday evening. On Sunday, our hot water stopped working but we called M&S and they sent someone out immediately; he was able to fix the heater well enough to give us hot water until the following day. That Monday, the plumber was out by 8 am to install the new water heater and it, too, was up and running quickly. Overall, for the inspection and repair, we received quick service and all of the servicemen were extremely polite and professional. Michael & Son also assisted us with rebate paperwork and inspections, but this didn't go quite as quickly. We have finally had the plumbing inspected and it passed first try. The scheduled HVAC inspections have been cancelled due to all of this snow and rain, and I've yet to have a call to reschedule now that the weather has cleared somewhat. Overall, very satisfied with promptness and with the standard of work they did. It was far pricier than other options I saw, but the convenience of having all services done by one company, the ability to bundle the services into one payment package, and the service agreement have worked very nicely for us so far.

Well, they have a weird "it'll cost you $200 just to look at it" so you feel like you are in for a penny, in for a pound. After about 10 seconds of analysis, they determined I needed to replace my entire circuit board. I believe they were right and in the end I want to say it cost around $1600. That seemed high given circuit boards aren't a third of that cost. Anyway, the service guy was professional and did good work. The other issue I had around my X10 remote not working, they could not figure out. So, although I paid $200, there was never a determination of what the cause/fix was for that problem. And, they conveniently didn't include that in the work order though that was specifically discussed as a need.

Gary arrived when he said he would, reviewed the work to be done and explained the needed repairs. He was done in no time, which may have been an indication that for a pro it was a simple job, but well beyond my capabilities. He reviewed what he had done and was on his way. A good experience and would use Michael & Son again.

On Friday, I was told by the receptionist that there would be a $29 dispatching fee. No problem with that. He scheduled a Monday visit. I was pleased. Then the electrician called on Monday and repeated the $29 dispatching fee. Ok. After the electrician called me one or two more times giving me more accurate time of arrival and repeated the $29 dispatching fee again, he arrived. BEFORE he looked into the problem, he announced THERE WOULD BE A $211.82 TROUBLE SHOOTING FEE which does not cover any cost of fixing the problem. He did fix the problem. The total cost is $312. My question is could they be more transparent by telling people about their huge trouble shooting fee when they repeatedly announced the $29 dispatching fee? If I had been told this $211 when I called, or when the electrician confirmed the time of arrival, I would have stopped them even after they wasted three days of my waiting time. It feels like they use the small $29 to get you interested so they come and you have to pay the $29 then they can charge you $211. After my complaint, they gave me a 10% discount. I asked their hourly rate, no, they don't have an hourly rate. How do you decide the cost then? No answer to this question. Lesson learned: When you decide to call Michael & Son, PLEASE ASK THEIR TROUBLE SHOOTING FEE before you invite them to your house. Otherwise, you will get a surprise present of a $$$$ bill. You may also ask them how they decide the charge!

During the general inspection it was determined that two of my three toilets needed replacing. The bolts inside the tank were severely rusted. Subsequently we set up an appointment to replace the toilets the following week. They along with Gary, showed up on time, worked quickly and were very professional in every way. They worked as a team and were friendly without being inappropriate or intrusive. They provided excellent attention to detail in their caulking and cleanup The customer service was GREAT

First, we paid $119 for a $200 coupon. We figured that when they came out, this would cover what we needed done for the day. The gentleman arrived in one of their posh Mercedes Benz trucks. After reviewing the simple pipe and faucet, we were told the cost would be well over $600. My husband was extremely bothered by this outrageous price considering the cost of the material was barely $100. That would be over $500 in labor to fix this simple outside pipe and faucet. The guy ended up returning with a price for $470 (really, the difference was what they said removing "dry wall repair" was for the house - the outside pipe connected in our bathroom linen closet).. So, the faucet was repaired. We're fine. Then almost 8 months later, my husband and I are reviewing credit card statements to finish taxes. This is when he sees 3 charges for the balance of $270!!! But that wasn't it. They came back and charged the same $270 2 weeks later. If I could, I would upload a screenshot of our statement. That's over $800 of our money that they stole. Here's the thing, they had to have tried to balance their books and see that they had way more money than their receipts showed. Especially with a business driving around in royal blue mercedes benz trucks. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company - their insane prices and dishonest charging.

Power was out at my house last week and my generator did not come on. I called Michael and Son and they scheduled an appointment far sooner that I expected given the bad weather we have had. The electrician showed up within the time window they gave me and did great work. He explained everything he did, was very professional and answered all of my questions. Best of all, my generator is now fixed and I have a maintenance agreement to keep it that way. Thank you so much for your great work, Jasper Driver !!

I'm very happy with the service I received! The plumber didn't have a part needed on first visit, but came back very quickly and did the job exactly as requested. Even hid the ugly lever behind a panel for me.

The work went well. The man was very nice in explaining our problem to us. I would recommend them to friends and neighbors

They are very, very helpful. I asked a lot of questions and they answered every one of them. Marvelous service!

Everything worked out just fine. It took him about 3 days to do the work. Adam was our main plumber and he was very good and very nice. They replaced everything with good equipment. They're my go-to plumber now. Adam offered me the option for copper tubing but they warned me that it'd cost 2x as much. They also stand behind their work.

This is the 3rd time I've used Michael & Sons and they continue to impress me. They are always professional, prompt, and knowledgeable. Their prices are pretty much in line with everyone else's, but the coupon really makes a difference. I would recommend them for sure.

It was fine. I think had it not been for the deal, I probably wouldn't use them because they're the type of company that will come in and do a full evaluation of your home and they tell you that you need 5 or 6 things done. Typically, we would like to stay away from those type of switch and bait company. I would not use them if there's not a "Big Deal" associated with it.

Honestly, I did feel his $220 price was a little overpriced for what he did. He also offered to do a full house check for free but I declined. He was professional and did the work the way he needed to do it. They came out earlier than they said they would. They actually called me and got here before the scheduled time so that was good.

They did a good job- came and fixed what we asked in were generally helpful.

Searched Angie's List for a plumber and chose the "Deals" option. Michael and Son was the first provider listed and offered $200 worth of plumbing for $119. I thought that sounded like a good deal so I purchased and was asked to enter 3 possible appointment dates and my contact info. Three days later my wife asked when the plumber was coming and I realized I had not received a call. I called the provider directly and spoke with a helpful representative who was able to schedule a visit the same day. Incidentally while I was on the phone I received an email from their online representative apologizing that they had not reached out sooner based on weather (we had snow and ice the previous day). The plumber (Gary) called as prescribed about 30 minutes before arriving. He was very friendly and explained the work to be performed and provided an estimate. He was efficient, very knowledgable, and professional. All this while being friendly. Overall very pleased and would use their service again.

Shortly after our purchase at Home Depot Michael and Son called to set up an appointment. We chose a date and time that was perfect for us and Michael and Son was able to install the toilets on that day between 10 am and 3pm. Heather, the plumber, arrived on time and installed all of the toilets. She did an excellent job. She was pleasant and knowledgeable and went right to work. The toilets were installed in a couple of hours. The quality of the installation was excellent. All toilets have worked perfectly since the installation. Heather was very neat. She cleaned up after the installation and you would never know someone had worked in our bathrooms. Heather gave us her business card and said to call her should we have any problems or questions in the future. We were very pleased and highly recommend Heather and Michael and SOn.

I meant to write this review for a long time and I finally did after seeing SuperBowl ad for Michael & Son! That's where my money goes! I was sick and tired of hearing their ads on radio and watching them on TV, so Super Bowl ad was a last straw for me. I feel completely ripped off by this company, their prices are so sky high. They charge for item of work performed, so replacing a simple light switch costs $27 for something that takes 5 minutes of work for an experienced electrician. That makes hourly rate more than of the most expensive corporate lawyers. Well, I rather be charged by hour in this case. In fact, I was charged $800 for about two hours of work. They also start with a sales pitch as they try to do the upsell. I don't want to waste my time listening to their sales pitch, I want MY work done. I will never again hire this company as they spend all their money on ads and expensive Mercedes trucks.

They did everything they said they would do and cleaned up everything so that it looked as best it could. They dug the ditch efficiently so most of the yard was left in tact.

I can't say enough about the plumber who came out. He was wonderful and very personable. He made sure to "give us the pickle". If you don't know what that means, look up the story "give 'em the pickle". I was so pleased with the plumber that when he asked if we wanted to set up an appointment for their electrician to come out, we didn't hesitate. The electrician was a totally different story. He did not give us the pickle and did nothing to make me ever want to use Michael and Sons again, which was a shame since we had such a good experience the first time. It ended up being the switch that had gone bad - something we could have easily changed ourselves if it had ever crossed our minds that it might have gone bad. I have never had any light switch go bad so it didn't cross my mind. I would know to check that now after having to pay $255.30 to have him change out a light switch. When the plumber set up the appointment, he had asked that the dispatch fee ($29) be waived. When I asked about it being on the invoice, he refused to remove it and I was so mad that I just wanted him out of my house.

The service went great. I had them repair some outlets and make some other electrical repairs. We thought it was a great deal and they did really good work for the price. One electrician was out and completed the job in about 2 hours. He even went up in the attic to make sure everything was working okay and up to code. He was very nice, personable and professional. He was very knowledgeable and scheduling the deal was easy. He even called to let us know he would be about 20 minutes late and he showed up right when he said would.

Before purchasing the coupon, I called Michael & Son just to get pricing on what I wanted done. The person who answered said she could not provide pricing and would have to send someone out. They would charge a dispatch fee (I think she said it was $79) and would give me a price. She indicated they did not charge by the hour but by the service. Since I wanted a faucet installed, it would seem that she could quote that price because it was 'not by the hour but by the service provided'. I was not willing to pay the dispatch fee to be given a price that may or may not have been acceptable and then be out the dispatch fee if I didn't have them perform the work. I was a little leery because I called them one time before to replace a ceiling fan and they did, but the price seemed pretty high - and then they tried to upsell me to have all of my light switches and electrical outlets replaced at a cost of about $5,000. they work they did before was definitely fine, I wasn't even too bothered by the high price because they were very professional and prompt. I wanted to give them a second chance since there was a coupon through Angie's List, but I would DEFINITELY not recommend this provider.

We were very happy with our experience. Our technician was very professional and friendly. The pricing for coming out and/or diagnosting is a little high, but we used an angie's deal coupon and felt it was well worth it.

After seeing good reviews I contacted Michael and Son for a plumber. An appointment was made for the same day I called (today). The appointment was for between 12:00pm and 4:00pm. My husband arranged to be home during that time for the service call. At 2:00 Michael and Son called and told my husband the plumber was running late and it would be 4:00 or so. At 4:45 we'd heard nothing else and I called Michael and Son. At that point it was too late so I told them to contact their plumber and tell them not to come and cancelled the appointment. I appreciate that sometimes jobs turn into more than you expected but the lack of communication and follow-up was a disappointment. The old TV ad that said you never get a second chance to make a first impression certainly rings true.
