Michael & Son

In the week before the Thanksgiving holiday the vanity light in our downstairs bathroom detached from the wall. We called Michael and Son on a Friday and they had an electrician out on Sunday. John O'Connor was fantastic. Polite and professional he showed me the problem, quoted a reasonable price, and completed a fairly complicated repair. This saved us having a "hanging light" while extended family and guests come to the house for Thanksgiving. Thanks John and Michael and Son. Really great job!

The angies list deal was taken from the total. The job was not to difficult for a plumber that had the tools and the know-how, but I paid for that knowledge as well. I am happy with the service and the service was very professional. I felt the price was too high for what was done.

Overall, our experience with Michael and Son was far from positive. From the electrical side, we decided to get a surge protector after a lightning strike but were told that our breaker panel (1963) home) was not to code and would need to be replaced. What was anticipated to take one and a half days took more than 2 to complete. The positive side is that Hugo, who did the work, was very calm and composed and professional when things did not go as planned with the rewiring. He found a solution to what seemed a big challenge with the job. I would recommend him highly, but not the company. The phone staff are obviously trained to sound polite and professional but there were numerous communication breakdowns/failures, multiple pushes to buy their "service agreement" and failure to convey correct appointment information and have our phone calls returned. On the plumbing end, things did not go well. There were unforeseen complications that should have been anticipated. We were told by 3 plumbers from M & S that replacing the cartridge in the bathroom sink should address the low hot water flow, even when we brought up the possibility ourselves of a pipe problem. The plumber that did the work, to his credit, stuck with it...but everything that could go wrong seemed to. The galvanized pipe was occluded and had to be rebuilt...there was a leak downstairs, difficulty getting the main water valve to cut off...etc. The bathtub stems were placed, but at completion, when we checked, one was not working properly. The electricity was off due to the breaker panel issues, which added to the unforeseen complexity of the job and it was the perfect storm of frustrations for both the plumber and us homeowners. We won't be using Michael and Son again and would not recommend them, particularly the plumbing dept. I would, overall, give the electrical department a "B" and the plumbing department a "D-" I will do a more thorough check before using service providers in the future, including reading reviews on Yelp and other sites.

Showed up on time, explained all issues thoroughly. Did work professionally.

It went fine. There were additional charges. It was sort of a down payment, in a way, for larger electrical work, once they saw there was more going on than I initially thought. So, it was used as a credit for a larger job. The total cost may have been double. I would probably not use them again in future, not because of the service, they're just a little pricey.

Tech did not explain anything to me, instead just kept giving these huge quotes. I was supposed to replace toilet valves that were not even broken since the malfunctioning inlet valve-pvr may have damaged them- 4 toilets at $300.00 a pop-who has that kind of money? I have had several plumbing stuff done through the years and this is my worst experience simply getting a quote. It was a complete waste of my time and money. Will never use them again

They came back with 4 pages of things to fix at a cost of 25K. Yes essentially repiping my whole house and a water softener. Of course I called a competitor and they told me that it is well known that this company marks up prices and that indeed I did not need to change out my piping to pvc. You only change piping if you are fixing a leak. There is no leak. The toilets run and needed $18 flappers and a bathtub was drippoing. The company sent the replacement part for free and with 7 toilets, a tub fix, several other odds and ends the bill was less than $400. So not sure if I would call Michael back because not sure I could trust what they say is wrong. Other plumber said my water chlorine levels are fine and the same as every other house int he county. Michael's company said it was similar to drinking pool water?

Great service, honest feedback. He started to fix an issue, I had given approval, then he realized his gage was broken and it didn't need fixing. Came back in, apologized and didn't do the repair. I trust this repair company.

They left all kinds of debris and trash in my crawl space. They did unnecessary work, overcharged by 20% according to 2 different plumbers who came behind them. The Master bath toilet backed up severely after they left as did the shower. I had to call another plumber to come fix. Turns out they left the test plug in the line and didn't remove it. Very unprofessional people.

I purchased a coupon for $119. on Angies list for $200 worth of labor. We re-tiled our powder room and needed the toilet reset and a new pedestal sink installed. The plumber was on time. After he saw the project he quoted over $700 for the job. After I had them break down the pricing they were quoting $274 to put the toilet back in place. As I had already purchased the coupon, I had them only install the pedestal sink. The pedestal sink installation was satisfactory. Later I had another company install the toilet for $100, while they did other kitchen plumbing that I wasn't going to have Michael & sons quote after they had quoted the powder room. The work done was satisfactory, but the pricing was not. As there were no supplies involved other than caulk I felt the labor cost was very high based on the installation time.

Out of state landlord with a leaky toilet. Price seems high because I feel like I could fix it for $15, but I always get pushed for a full re-build at huge labor rate or a completely new toilet. Either way, work completed well and for what it's worth price is on par with competitors.

At 4:30, I called about an update on arrival. They said that repair person would call when en route- and noted (for the first time) that they were aiming for a time slot of 2-6pm. I called about 6:10 to cancel the call (too late for us to stick around and interact even if the person did come). At 6:13 the repair person called to say that he was on his way - est 20-25 minutes more. I repeated direction to cancel the call. So, I know that these folks don't have the resources to assure arrival at a specific time. But they could, at least, be accurate about their goals up front and keep customers apprised when they are not going to meet them as events unfold.

Our technician was great. He ran into some issues, but stayed late and dealt with them. We couldn't be happier with the work. I always use M&S for all my plumbing and electrical needs. They are more expensive than most of their competitors, but the quality of work is worth the price.

The arrival window was 12-4. The repairman left me messages before 11:30 that he was at the location. I met him and pointed out the several electrical tasks that needed doing. He quoted me a price somewhere north of $500 which seemed much too high, so I asked what could I get for the $129 Deal price for $200 worth of work. After a great deal of inputting information on a tablet he said he could replace three outlets, but there would be an additional $24 charge. It took about ten minutes or less to replace each of the 3 outlets. The moment came to pay the amount additional to the Deal. He asked me what my code was. I had not brought a copy of the Deal printed out. The repair person said he could not give me the discount without the code. He might have told me when we spoke on the phone to be sure to bring the code with me if that was required. I then had to make a round trip to my printer which took nearly half an hour in lunch time traffic in order to bring back the code for the discount.

The technician was prompt, very professional, and we had several phone calls (this is a rental property) to discuss the work in progress. While it was more expensive than I had anticipated, i got lots of advice and recommendations about how to save money in the future. I would definitely use them again.

They came out and gave this seriously overpriced estimate including things I didn't even ask for I called them back the next day after I received the estimate and they never return my call to go over the estimate.

They were polite. Wanted a lot to install a new water heater. I cant remember the price but it was higher than anyone else. I would not use them in the future.

I'm always pleased with the services provided by Michael and Son. This was no exception. I had them out for two things, one was the kitchen faucet (which we were going to do for sure), secondly asked them about a slow drain situation we had. I decided to not have the drain problem done due to the price that was quoted.

Todd arrived on time and was extremely professional. His estimate of cost was correct and he finished the job in a timely manner. He looked at some additional electrical services which we will have done in the future. He went above and beyond helping me trouble shoot another outlet that was not working and fixed it at no additional cost. It is wonderful to have an electrical company that I can contract with and know the job will get done at a reasonable cost. Todd in particular was a big help and we are 100 percent pleased with Michael & Son

Work was done efficiently and with professionalism. Pricing is on the high side and I personally find it frustrating that they insist on being on site to quote (or even give a pricing range for) standard repairs. However, plumber was very easy to work with.

Adam was extremely knowledgeable about our plumbing issues and educated us relative to sturdier types of hoses and appliances. He conducted himself in a professional manner and was thorough in his work. He also explained each task as he performed it. In addition, I forgot to include the certificate that I purchased for $200 of work at the rate of $119. He immediately brought that to my attention and reconfigured my bill, which saved me a significant amount of money. I strongly admire his honesty and willingness to please the customer. they did a good job at the price agreed. Give me options and then completed the work

Workman was courteous and professional, but arrived 2 hours later that the original time scheduled. Pricing was not explained well up front. I was told there would be an $85 minimum charge because it was weekend. However, the I was not told that the end charge would be a charge for the work done + the $85 weekend change. This made the price very high for a simple repair.

We have used Michael many times and he is always prompt, efficient and can fix even weird things like noisy pipes. His prices are very reasonable.

They came out on a Sunday and fixed it. It cost a lot of money. But, it was kind of an emergency situation. I've requested a quote from them before on replacing a water heater and it was almost four times the amount that I ended up spending to get it replaced.
