They did a good job. It was more expensive than I thought it would be so I would never use them again. I called them and they said it was $400 to hook a dish washer. The plumber that fixed the stuff was good.

The Technician, Jasper Driver, checked out the generator and made sure that it was working properly. With a major storm on the way, he made sure the system would work if needed. As usual Jasper did a great job and left us feeling ready to face the storm knowing we would stay warm!
Description of Work: I had made an appointment to have my generator looked at as the low oil light was on and it was not running the maintenance program.

To be honest, despite completing the technical services in a successful manner, this provider also did some things that mean I can ***NOT*** recommend them. If you just want your plumbing problem fixed and don't care about them leaving your house in worse condition when they leave, then I guess you can use them. Here is what happened and in my opinion, it is not good. First of all, the work they did meant that excrement (yes, that's right) was splattered all over the floor and walls of our laundry room. To be fair, I understand that is going to happen when they are tackling a tough problem. My issue is the lousy job they did in cleaning up. They took one of our mops downstairs to start cleaning up and didn't bother to thoroughly clean it. Then they took another of our mops and did the exact same thing, leaving both of our mops still stained with sewage. Don't they provide cleaning supplies for their workers? We had to throw away both mops and go back behind them and clean the excrement they left behind on the walls, the exposed pipes and our carpeted stairs where they tracked the mess. And, the icing on the cake---- in bringing in all of their equipment they left countless huge black scuff marks all along our wall. The reason I am so angry about that is (purely by coincidence) I just spent last weekend repainting the basement!!!!! So they just drug their equipment right across my pristine, newly painted wall. It's not enough to know your stuff, it's just as important to clean up any mess you make!! Unfortunately, this experience has soured me on this company. After we submitted our review on Angie's list we have had several conversations with Michael & Son. They were very contrite and were accountable for their actions and we have discussed how they can make the situation right. I was not happy with the original experience but the follow up from them was acceptable to me

I've always used M&S for plumbing and electrical, so I figured I would start using them for HVAC servicing. I have an older unit that the wife noticed a change in the sound?a struggling sound. So, I called M&S for a service. A gentleman came out and diagnosed the issue. He stated that I could pay for the parts?about $1000?or get an estimate on a new unit since mine is older ('03). He stated that a person could come out in the next couple hours to provide an estimate on a new unit. Fast-forward a couple hours later, a gentleman shows up to provide an estimate. He didn't look at the unit too long, but instead came directly in the house to sit down and discuss options. He gave me four options to choose from after asking me a couple general questions (e.g. What is the size of the house?, etc.) These options ranged from kinda expensive to really expensive. After he left I did some research and called a couple friends about the cost, and they were floored. So I jumped on Angieslist and looked for another company to provide an estimate. A gentleman came out that day to provide an estimate. I'm not going to elaborate since this review focuses on M&S, but I will say the estimate and method was night and day. The approach, the education, the cost?everything. I understand M&S has a large overheard because of the size of the company, but compounded with the fact that the M&S estimator seemed to be in a rush (it was around lunch time) makes me question using M&S henceforth. I am going with the other company for the HVAC installation and service.

The plumber was very nice and respectful. But the cost to do the repair was so high there was no way I could have the work completed.
Description of Work: The cost of a simple replacement valve on my water line to the toilet was going to cost over $300! As a senior citizen, this is outrageous! I am requesting a refund.

After loosing hot water, I called several plumbers. Michael and Son stood out almost immediately with their customer service in setting up the initial appointment. My original appointment was scheduled for between 2 and 6 pm the next day. The technician called earlier because of a cancellation and was able to be at my home by noon. He quickly assessed the situation, provided a quote and was able to begin work almost immediately. He was professional, courteous and efficient. In chatting it with him and seeing his work, it was clear he took pride in his work and craftsmanship. Although their price quote was on the higher side of quotes I received, I felt it well worth the few extra dollars given the very positive experience I had in making the appointment and in the work provided. I definitely will be using Michael and Son again for my plumbing needs.

Company was prompt in returning our request for an estimate. Service men were able to complete the jobs the same day. We did have to ask the service man to return the following week as the shower faucet began dripping again, but he did return free of charge, with a smile on his face and even fixed an additional sink stopper free of charge. Great company!
Description of Work: Michael and Son repaired leaks in shower and sink faucets. They also replaced the expansion tank on the hot water heater.

Great service. thorough, punctual, and professional. Glen did a great job. However, I was only given one option for a water heater, which seemed to be the Cadillac of water heaters. The unit cost about double what I needed and double the price of the best units reviewed on consumer reports, but since it was a holiday and I was leaving town the next day with a leaking water heater and no shutoff valve, I had no option but to take what I was given. I would not use this service again if this is the only option.

The electrician was super kind and very, very fast! He was so fast that it made the price feel a bit high, since it translates to well over $100/hr, but that is understandable and speed is desirable. I would recommend the company indeed and will certainly be calling them for future electrical needs.

The work went well - approximately 2 hours. The electrician was friendly and efficient. However assuming the parts required for the work cost $100 it means that labor was charged at $500 per hour! Really? I had to have the work done as we had waited for a week for the work to be done, and my wife is ill. They said they would come on a Friday afternoon - didn't arrive. They said they would come between 10am and 2pm on Saturday - didn't arrive. Eventually turned up at 5pm in the evening. Bottom line - really incompetent office staff and exorbitant charges. Will never use Michael & Son again and will warn friends, neighbors and family about this.
Description of Work: Replaced electric cable from breaker box to new hot water heater. Estimated cost of part (20 amp breaker, 20ft electric cable, disconnect box) approximately $100.

They were here about November 10th. They actually didn't do any work because of the cost of the work, they told me how much it was going to cost. Another thing is they never got back to me about a water heater and they said they would get back to me. They were very responsive on the call.

I called the company at about 3pm in the afternoon for a water leak. At first I told them that it was my water heater that was leaking (because the whole closet was filled with spraying water and it appeared to be coming from the water heater). After turning the water off I called them again to inform them it was not the water heater - it was a high pressure spray coming from a pipe in the wall. I think the technician arrived at about 6pm. With just a glance into the utility room he informed that I really needed a new water heater. He quoted 3 package prices for a water heater ranging from $1655 to $2117. The quote for repairing the water leak was$490 ($165 to cut the drywall and $325 to repair the leak - not including the after hours $89 emergency visit). I declined the offer, kept the water off, and had the work done the following day (today) using another company; the other company only charged $195 total to repair the leak.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate of work to be done (after hours visit) and tried to sell me a new water heater.

I had a a leak around a bathtub faucet. He said it was repaired but it leaked as soon as he left. I had another plumber fix it and had to pay again. Very unhappy. Also, when he was fixing it, he took a part off and water began gushing, and he kept saying, "Oh, crap!", but he had great difficulty stopping the flow. Honestly, I had a feeling he was very incompetent or had just started the job! I also had an instant boiling water unit in the kitchen that I wanted removed since it was leaking and a new one installed. He said he didn't think I could remove it after about an hour and a half of messing with it. Since another plumbing company HAD removed and replaced this one, I knew that was not accurate so I just told him to leave it alone. He was at my house for four hours and repaired nothing! Furthermore, the check I used to pay for the work was not cashed for two months, and when I called the company they did not know where it was nor did they return my calls about it.
Description of Work: He was to remove a boiling water unit and fix a bathtub faucet leak.

Not great to be honest. They came out like three weeks ago maybe. He suggested that I change the shower cartridge and he quoted me $350 to do that. I went ahead and did it myself and it didn't even fix the problem so I contacted Michael & Sons again to relay they hadn't really fixed the problem and they recommended that I put myself in contact with the first time, which I did and then I never heard from the company or the plumber again.
Description of Work: They did plumbing service. I purchased the whole home inspection and my main concern was our pressure to the water.

Not well. After review of the job the service tech proceeded to use his iPad to calculate the cost of the service request. Based on his estimate of "applying the cost modules" to this project, the fee was estimated at $468.00. I said no thank you and would appeal for a refund from Angie's List. He asked why and the simple answer is that in material costs alone the job was less than $10 in costs. The connection for the power source was less than 4 feet in distance from the thermostat to connect the power. I paid $129 for $200 worth of work which clearly would have been more than enough necessary to do this job. But this tech wanted me to pay an additional $268 on top of the $129 already paid. When I passed he said that he would contact his boss and see what he could do to adjust the price. He made the claim that their "module pricing format" is how these high prices are created and that he knew it was high but normally can't change the estimate that his computer creates per project. After several minutes in his truck on the phone using his iPad, he came back with a much lower price. This required a small additional payment that I agreed to because at that point what choice did I have needing the fan connected. For me, the experience was not good leaving me feel taken advantage of and completely shocked that the "modular pricing system" used is not valid nor reasonable for the work to be preformed. The member is basically stuck feeling we have no choice paying in advance the money for the "deal" that was offered. In the end the work performed met expectations but the process was uncomfortable and deceiving in my opinion. Steve Abourisk (919) 522-6762
