We have use Michael & Son Services Raleigh for plumbing, electrical and hvac several times now. We finally decided to make the switch to tankless. Our service man was Joe L. He has worked on other plumbing related visits in the past. He is always professional, friendly, courteous and very organized. They took care of our carpets and without us having to ask; they wear boot-covers and laid down heavy carpet protector and truly not a single speck of dirt or water heater "stuff" fell on our carpets or hallways. They hauled every single item away. The work was done as promised and we were kept informed during the whole process by Joe. My husband was especially pleased with the final work - everything looks great - wiring was done beautifully - clearly I'm just looking at the aesthetics and as long as we have no leaks I'm happy. We do appreciate the work M&S does and thats why we keep calling them back. Truly 1st class service. Thanks to Joe L we are happy campers.

My experience with Michael and Son was great. I called them around noon on a Friday, and they had someone out here by about 4pm. The two technicians worked until nearly 8:30pm (on a Friday) to get the job done. Needless to say, we were happy to have hot water over the weekend! They provided us with a variety of pricing options. We had received one other quote, which was about the same price as their low cost option, which is the one we went with. The technicians that worked on our home were highly knowledgeable, and very courteous. I enjoyed my experience with them, and I am sure I will use Michael and Son again in the future.

Todd from Michael & Son diagnosed the problem in short order and fixed it, also explaining why it occurred. In addition, he answered a number of electrical questions I had that were unrelated to the original issue.
Description of Work: I have a number of light switches that are interconnected with multiple lights. I needed to diagnose why one of them kept popping the circuit breaker whenever it was flipped.

We specifically requested Brent Jackson for this job after Brent did another job for us. He set up light timer switches to work properly after multiple unsuccessful trials by several other electricians. Brent did another great job. Everything looks and functions great. Brent accomplished this task smoothly and was very careful to leave everything in perfect shape when done. We have another electrical job lined up and we will be requesting Brent again since we have high confidence that he will get it done to our highest satisfaction.

We recently moved back to North Carolina and we purchased an older home. Lots of charm but in need of updating. The home needed to have the electrical updated. I had another electrician start the project however, he did not return to complete the work, and quite frankly i was tired of rescheduling appointments. Initially I bought one of their coupons and I had only contracted Michael & Son to finish the job of the replacement and installation of light switches. John arrived in the middle of a storm. I had expected the appointment to be cancelled. I had not really given a thought to replacing the canned lighting with more efficient lighting (effectively lowering my electricity bill) until after the house had been painted. John convinced me to consider that I would be happier with the painting of the ceilings if I replaced them prior to the painting. No pressure. He just wanted me to see what the difference would be. John replaced the lighting in the kitchen just to demonstrate the difference in the lighting. Needless to say John ended up replacing all of the lights and I organized to have him install dimmers and light fixtures. John left at dinner time to handle emergency calls due to the storm. Michael & Son are not the cheapest electricians that you will find and they are not the most expensive. What I like about them is you can get a quote, they show up when they say they will, they charge by the job that needs to be done and not by time. If the job takes them longer then it takes them longer, however they schedule their time well. You need to keep in mind they drive these amazing vehicles that are mini lighting supply stores. They bring more supplies than any other electrician that I have ever seen to the job. ( i have built three homes so I know.) They are respectful of your home. They put out mats, tarps and wear booties on their shoes. So.... - are they the cheapest...no - are they most expensive...no - are they concerned that you are happy with their work...yes - do they show up when they say they will...yes - are they respectful of your time ...yes - are they respectful of your house...yes - will they be there if you have any emergency electrical issue...yes Only you can decide what you value most and if quality or price are your priority.
Description of Work: Throughout the house they replaced old and Installed new light fixtures, replaced all canned lights with new ones with LED, replaced old and installed new light switches and installed dimmer switches.

Brent Jackson and another gentleman arrived on 1/21/15, an extremely cold day. The unit was a complete disaster, but they kept working on it for approximately three (3) hours. When they finished, they realized that the auto switch needed to be replaced, and this part had to be ordered. The part was ordered and Brent returned on 1/28/16 to complete the job. (I need to add that between the first call and the second, we had an ice storm and were without power for three days - no power no water). When I was informed that all was well on 1/28 with the generator, I was ecstatic. As I already stated, the generator was a complete mess, and given my experience with the ice storm, I feel that the price was very fair. Yes, I definitely will use them in the future and highly recommend them. My special thanks and extreme gratitude go to Brent.
Description of Work: Total repair of my generator that had been virtually destroyed by a Progress Energy contractor. The battery blew up, the acid affected the wiring, and most of the electrical components had to be replaced.

He knew what to do and did it in a polite, professional manner. I was also going to have all 30 of my recessed ceiling lights changed to LEDs but they wanted $60 dollars per bulb just to screw in new bulbs and I couldn't afford that.

This was the best experience! Thomas Coyle, our serviceman, came to fix the heater and worked tirelessly, even though it was late in the evening. The snow did not stop him and the next day he returned in the snow and replaced the part. He is extremely good at what he does, dedicated, compassionate, hardworking, diligent, thorough and kind. I am also impressed with the office staff - always cheerful and helpful. Two thumbs up and five stars for Thomas Coyle and Michael and Sons. Highly recommended!!

Working with the plumber Everett was great. He gave great insight into potential issues and helped guide us to a quick fix on our garbage disposal machine. Was in and out quickly with top quality work to boot. Working with the electrician Jason W. was great. He helped guide us through our long wish/need-list of to do's, and did a great job itemizing the pricing and plans. Had to schedule the actual work for another day since there's so much to be done, but we are very happy with the cost and details of the work to be done.

Basically I had one bad electrical outlet and a hot water heater that needed the reset button pushed. The total cost of this was $809. Both repairmen spent the bulk of their time trying to sell me an expensive maintenance plans. I did agree to the additional outlet replacement so I cannot argue about the first charge although in retrospect I think it was completely unnecessary. The second visit was $392 for pushing the reset button after which he left the electric panel cover lying on the ground beside the heater. The fee fror this was exorbitant. Plus the job was not completed correctly. The constant pushing of expensive maintenance plans was offensive. I am not handy when it comes to electrical and plumbing work. I rely on Angie's List to help me with this. I did sign off on the charges but I was taken advantage of. I would never recommend Michael and Son too anyone. I highly suggest that Angie's List take them off of their list of recomended contractors
Description of Work: I had a bad electrical outlet that was fixed on Jan 11th for $417. I did agree to allow him to replace a number of my other older outlets. I also had a problem with my hot water heater the following day. He came out and said that my hot water heater needed to be replaced and he was going to charge $2,000+. I asked him to hold off on this. Hwe was successful in getting it working again and he left. The charge for this was $392. My hot water heater went out again that night. Another repairman was sent and I found that the electrical panel cover on the hot water heater was left off from the earlier visit. He pushed the reset button and all was working again. There was no charge for the return visit.

The work was excellent. The prices are very high compared to all others, and they work hard to "upsell" their services. The electrician really did an excellent job and I trust his work completely. They are careful to enter the home with booties on, and they put down a rug in front of the door. They kept me posted on the work throughout the day and made sure I was aware of the plan and that I approved it. All in al, this is a good company. Just very pricey.

I have used Michael and Sons for several jobs, and I paid a premium price in every case because of quality of technicians and good customer service. Most of their staff is great to work with and very qualified. Jasper Driver is the electrician who has years of training and provides perfect service work every time. The highest level of professionalism and friendly service has been provided for my heating and air conditioning needs by Joe Sider. However the company has also built a reputation for exorbitant and ridiculously inflated charging. Three days ago the service manager shot himself in the foot when he gave me an outrageous quote for some needed electrical repairs. I quickly arranged to have another company do the job. That job which Michael and Sons' service manager quoted at $1,200.00, was completed satisfactorily for me on February 5th for me by another company for $193.50. Do the math. :) I had intended to give Michael and Sons the highest five star rating due to the skill and friendliness of employees such as Jasper and Joe. And I have up to now been a very loyal customer. However I have concluded that their pricing usually makes them a very poor choice.

not well, would that use provide again
Description of Work: i made apt for service 1 mth in advance, provider show up the last 30min of 4 hour window without calling not know why he came. then had difficulty replacing a kitchen light, it took forever, ended up with a broken light shade and end of apt. now I need it replaced again. Wasted 4 hours of my life

The work was excellent and both of the workers were very courteous. They were very experience though.

Took 'em a bit to get the wire fished through the sill board from the crawlspace up into the wall, but after that it was easy going. Permit inspection took minutes and passed with no issue. Would use again.

The company was very responsive and set up the service as soon as they had an opening. Edwin Lazo, the representative that was assigned to us was very professional and gave us prices on the work. The major tank rebuild we selected was priced at $322.27, We needed to go ahead and get the work done, so we agreed to that part of the service. The quote to replace a lavatory stopper in a half bath was $247.24, which was much higher than we anticipated, and we decided to bypass that offer. The Michael & Son representative was knowledgeable and professional, and did good work. My only reservations about recommending this company is that it would have cost us over $540 for what were relatively minor repairs. We purchased the $200 certificate on Angie's List at a discount so we saved a little there, but the work ended up costing us out of pocket a total of $241.27 which was probably what a normal major tank rebuild might have been. Back to the lavatory stopper. I decided to do that replacement myself, and it cost me $8.99 in parts from a hardware store and an hour of my time. I was extremely pleased with the work that Michael & Son did on the repairs. Regarding the pricing of their services - not so much. If money is no object, I would highly recommend this company. If you are a consumer with a tight budget, you might want to look a little further, or consider doing the work yourself.

Provider was very informative in explaining generator. It was an appliance that came with the house but had not worked in the few years we had lived here. We finally decided to get it back in working condition. Provider took me out to the generator, showed me how it worked and explained the process of what maintenance he provided. He also suggested a whole home surge protector. I did not realize such a thing existed. I had many plug in surge protectors throughout the house as it is located in a area that has several lightning hits throughout the season. The Provider also gave me an estimate in wiring the screened porch for a tv. I plan to have him back to do the work.
Description of Work: Overall maintenance and replace battery on home generator and installed all home surge protector.
