Michael & Son

I began my 11/5/2017 review with "It went terribly - as far as Michael and Son's service, responsiveness and professionalism." I finished my speel with "I would never hire or recommend Michael and Son ever, ever, ever!!!" Well, I DID HIRE THEM AGAIN, AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM!!! Why - after all of that? Because of their management - you know, those folks who sit in meetings all day long - planning the processes and policies governing how they intend to accomplish their business. Well, a corporate fellow actually called me to inquire about my complaint, and he understood where I was coming from. He was sincere, believe it or not, and set about rectifying the wrong that was done to me. Because of "HIM!" - his manner, his professionalism, his courtesy and integrity - HE ACTUALLY DID EVERYTHING HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO DO!!! - I called back the other 2 electrical companies I had standing in the wings (one to be interviewed; the other, a date had actually been set), and I went with Michael and Son instead. This corporate gent impressed me with his confidence and faith in Michael and Son; he said, "We're better than that; that is not the company I know!" And he set about proving it. A very nice electrical technician came when he was supposed to, and set about doing an absolutely GREAT, GREAT JOB! My chandeliers were hung beautifully; all went well. Their price was great (they beat their other 2 competitors). I am a happy customer! That's all I wanted - simply to "be a happy customer" - to be satisfied with the service I received! Now, when I see a Michael and Son commercial, I will agree with all that they're promising by way of that TV ad. And, I do and will recommend Michael and Son to anyone and everyone. We all work; and truth be told, from time to time, we all have a bad day. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and I take back what I said previously about Michael and Son's poor service, responsiveness and professionalism. Their management (represented by the gentleman from their corporate office) restored my faith in them, and I agree that they're not only a good company - but an excellent one. I say this because they obviously have policies and processes in place for unfortunate experiences like my own, and via that marvelous man who helped me, they care enough to put them into practice. The corporate fellow I keep raving about even said "they might use my case as a 'training exercise' for new trainees." I think that's great! And that is why they now rate as "excellent" in my book!

Michael & Son Services (M&SS) stands behind their work and puts their customers first. Over the past several years, we've hired M&SS to: completely replace one of our two split furnace/AC systems; replace the AC system of our other split furnace/AC system; replace our main circuit breaker panel and install a whole-house surge protector; replace a toilet flush system; and install surge protectors on each of our two furnaces and AC systems. All of this work was completed in an excellent manner from the designs, to the choices of components, to installation and timely completion. Along the way, also M&SS installed a bathroom ceiling fan for us, but the fan unit did not have the power level we had asked for and needed. We did not discover the discrepancy until we were recently remodeling the bathroom - more than a year after M&SS completed the fan project. The day after I contacted M&SS, a senior staff member was at our house to inspect the situation. He then ordered the specific more-powerful fan unit that I told him we wanted, and promptly after receiving it, M&SS installed the fan including rerouting the vent conduit for more effective operation. No charge, no questions asked, and M&SS made everything right, with a cheerful attitude all the way.

I called Michael and Son because of their great reviews on Angie’s list. I was not disappointed. Got an appointment for the very next day. Jonathan came out right on time. He was a very nice man, very easy to talk to and clearly a very experienced plumber. He listen to what I was trying to accomplish, made a couple of suggestions as to how to get it done the best way. He wrote up an estimate and the price seemed fair so I signed off and he got started. Got the job done in an hour or so and it was exactly what I wanted. I would not hesitate to have Jonathan back for any plumbing needs in the future.

Services performed went very well, and we are most pleased with Michael & Son's. John, the electrician, was personable & knowledgeable in addition to pointing out suggested updates to think about for our 50 year old house. On his suggestion, we were able to get a further discount with a Michael & Son's coupon (savings of $71) on Angie's List. This was a great savings for us especially being senior citizens. Thank you to Michael & Son's for a job well done !!!

Everything went very smoothly from start to finish. Scheduling was easy, the company called to remind us of our appointment, the company called when the plumber was 45 minutes away, the plumber (Kevin) arrived on time and he was very professional, friendly, tidy, efficient, and explained everything thoroughly. I would use this company again and highly recommend them.

It went fine and they did a great job. I felt the price was a little high for what was done but would use them again but not for small projects.

The technician couldn't find my address, called me three times before finally getting it correct, but still arrived in the expected service time window. I was expecting this service to fit well within the minimum $69 fee for coming out which is applied to labor should you have any work done. Not the case... I was quoted $175 just to turn the valve if he could, and $226 if he could not move it, to replace the stop valve. I felt stuck since choosing not to pay this rediculously high rate would leave me owing the $69 diagnostic fee, and I would still need to get another plumber out to complete the job. Because of time constraints I approved the work and asked the technician to disconnect the sink as well which he happily did within the quoted amount for turning the valve that was stuck. But $175 to turn a valve is outrageous! No issues with the work done, he was able to turn the valve and disconnect the sink in less than 15 minutes time. He spent at least double that time on paperwork preparing the quote.

I turned in my bill to the service rep and he must have lost it because they called us a week later asking for payment. I had to write them another check. The service rep did alright but I wasn't happy with the office. They did the work quickly and efficiently.

The representative arrived on time. He looked things over and said he'd have to leave and pick up some pipe insulation. This means he arrived without the necessary materials, even though it was specified beforehand. He wrote up an estimate on his notepad of $387. As my shock lessened, I told him I thought that this was too much. He said that I didn't have to do it, but it will still be $90 for "diagnostics." I told him that I had diagnosed it myself, and he changed his story, saying it was $90 just for him to show up, and that the $90 would not apply towards any work being done. I guess he thought I was some dumb old man. This might be how this company affords all those handsome trucks. After some additional awkward conversation, he left without any money changing hands. On a good note, the ordeal inspired me to see if I could do the work myself. After spending about $19 and 90 minutes, I did it all myself. This guy could have knocked this out in about 20 minutes. I'd have gladly paid a couple hundred dollars or so, and he'd be on to his next call.

Easy scheduling, on-time arrival and completion, professional and courteous

Plumber was knowledgeable and professional. Took his time to ensure that he identified the actual problem and sent us a thank you note!

I thought their price was reasonable. I would use them again if needed but they are normally booked for months in advance.

Breakers were replaced but one area needed to be reset; leaving town the next day so haven't been able to call back.

I am extremely disappointed with this company. Buyer beware. We needed to puchase a new HVAC system. The salesperson came to our home and quoted the price for a unit. I asked him to walk upstairs as we have some rooms with high ceilings. Said there was no need. His calculation was based on square footage.. My mistake for not insisting. The upstairs air conditioner does not keep up. The furnace which was installed at the same time did not work properly when the weather got cold. Reason being that they installed a NATURAL GAS furnace and we heat with PROPANE. There was soot built up in the unit so it kept turning off. Michael and Sons told us that the safety features which are now code would have shut the unit to prevent a fire. No great consolation. Instead of replacing the entire unit they added a kit to switch from natural gas to propane. This was on a unit which was four months old! So no heat and I don't or will not know how much damage happened in the long run. The entire furnace was not replaced. It was their mistake and they did a cheap fix with this kit. I wanted a new unit. Our air required an annual inspection to stay under warranty. The service man arrived on time and was very polite. A few days later the air conditioner stopped working. The house became excessively humid and uncomfortable. We were told to turn off the system, pleasant when it's 95 degrees. A different technician came out the next day. Turns out the first man had not tightened certain components, left the fan on improperly plus other issues. I have nothing good to say about this company. If I was to do it over again I would have chosen a local company with an excellent rating.

Need a ceiling fan installed 15" ceiling. They refused to provide an estimate in advance saying the tech would have to see the area before giving an estimate. Having used them in past for a similar job, ceiling fan in a 20" entry way, figure job should be in that price range maybe a little higher so I gave them benefit of the doubt. The technician came out asked a couple questions then punched the information into his tablet and provided a quote without looking at work area. This quote was twice as high as the prior installation. I really couldn't appreciate the lies about providing a quote before sending a technician. On that note the technician they sent out was a wonderful gentleman he was on time courteous and very understanding. Wonderful employees horrible policies.

Wanted to charge me $950.00 for a new kitchen faucet. Yes, $950.00. Additionally, I didn't know this until later but the service person even said to my niece and nephew they needed to convince me to buy it. I'm late posting this comment but I wanted to make others aware of the potential rip off. Not sure why Angie's list continues to support such few businesses and the ones they do are not very reliable.

The service was great. They did a great job. I recommend them for electrical work.

It went great! Michael & Son sent over two plumbers (one finishing his on the job training rotation) who went over what went wrong, how it happened, and gave me options for replacement. If we're judging strictly by the cost of the parts, I would have called this a more expensive event than I'd like. However, I would not have hired someone if I did had the expertise and tools to do the replacement myself. Jonathan (?) and the other plumber took the time to do the job right, entertained my questions and explained everything I wanted to know about along the way. They listened to me when I told them I wanted a certain thing and not another, and most of all they were unfailingly polite. As icing on the cake, I received a thank you card from them not a week later. I hold this up as an example of how a fantastic service call should go. I would definitely be willing to call on them again!

Great. Taylor was here on time and replaced the light fixtures for my master bedroom. No issues and very professional. Yes I would hire them again.

They are a bit pricey. I wouldn't tell them anything, if they don't know what a seasonal check up is, they wouldn't have a clue what they were looking for. They did a good job with professionalism., a little pricey.
