Todd was prompt, knowledgable, courteous, and friendly. Throughout the time he was at our residence, he was neat, and cleaned up well. He kept us informed during the process, and was efficient and thorough.
Description of Work: Todd worked on four projects during his stay, including installing a light fixture, istalling a light and fan, repairing and old fan installation, and istalling a light switch.

It was good at first. They came out and had convinced me to do a maintenance program. My heat went out on a cold night and it was free since I had the warranty. He got it working for that night but told me I needed all this work done. It was going to be over $1000 and I told him not to it then. I called another guy out and he said it was just a frozen pipe. I don't know if they were trying to get me because it was cold or I was a woman but based on that I would not use them again. He got the heat back on that minute but said it would not last.
Description of Work: I used Michael & Son for HVAC.

Very poorly. The plumber said my bathroom could not be repaired and needed to be gutted and all the plumbing replaced at a cost of $7700. He would not try to unclog the bathtub. He relit the pilot on my hot water heater but left in on the lowest setting leaving me with barely lukewarm water. He also tried to sell me a $ 389.00 warranty . So for my $119 I had my hot water heater pilot relit and set incorrectly. I hired another plumber that was able to unclog my bathtub drain and reset the hot water heater for $160.00. This plumber, as well as my regular handyman ,do not agree with the assessment done by Michael and Son
Description of Work: I needed my bathtub unclogged and my hot water restored.

Master Plumber Joe arrived this morning. Obviously very knowledgeable and experienced. He replaced the pressure regulator valve first. Each time he cleaned the intake to the new valve it again fouled with debris from the TOC water system. He was very persistent in hunting down the cause. Joe called TOC Public Works, they sent out a tech who blew out their multiple valve regulator devices and replaced a TOC valve. This resolved it. I live on a cul de sac and 19 years of gravel in the water supply was probably the problem. If it were not for Joe's diligence and persistence we would not been able to get this resolved.
Description of Work: We had fluctuating low water pressure. Two months ago we had a new dishwasher installed. The isolation valve did not hold so we shut off water at the meter. The result was low and fluctuating pressure. We called out a competitor plumber twice and they improved it but did not correct the problem.

Service was prompt and professional, I was given a few options, chose my unit, signed up for zero percent interest financing and scheduled the work. Upon completion, tech told me compressor didn't sound right and supervisor would come next morning to inspect. Supervisor agreed it sounded odd but was holding pressures, etc and offered option of replacing or waiting. Soon after, no a/c. Called service, given a 4 hour window, tech arrived and quickly diagnosed problem as the electrical switch feeding power to furnace in attic, replaced with a switch he had in truck and told me he had to make that work, if it happened again, just have the switch replaced. It happened again, but this time it wasn't the switch. The fan wire came loose. No air again. Called and given a 4 hour window on Sunday. This time, the toggle switch that detects water in the pan was tripped but there was no water in pan. How did switch get tripped? No one knows. No air 1 day later!!!!! I called for their 24 hour emergency repair line and was told the tech on duty was busy til midnight and given a 4 hour window for next morning, 8-12. Well here I sit at 1 pm and have not even heard from technician yet. I called M&S twice to check on status and was told it would be around noon, then I'm next. The gentlemen that come to work on the unit are always polite, professional and apologetic. I am extremely disappointed that 3 or 4 service calls on a brand new (May, 2016) unit do not get you priority service. I am at wit's end with this unit, company and waiting, waiting, waiting. I have zero confidence in this unit now and have an ill family member who has been subjected to dangerous heat on 4 occasions since May when I had the new unit installed. I would definitely not recommend this company, mostly because they are too large. Their 24 hour emergency service means they answer the phone 24 hours, do not expect same day service. Based on my experience today (more than 1 1/2 hours late for a 4 hour window), they cannot manage a tech crew either.
Description of Work: Had them do maintenance on newer downstairs HVAC units and older upstairs unit. They found that old unit had a freon leak and burnt switch and ended up having them replace the 13 year old package unit (Heat & air) that services the upstairs.

My wife and I purchased a house last July and needed some initial repairs done, but did not have any recommendations for service providers. It looked like Michael & Son was a company that could handle most of our needs so I contacted them started with replacing a toilet upstairs and under sink plumbing in a bathroom. I knew I needed to have my HVAC system inspected and signed up for their Gold Home Care Agreement. As part of the agreement an electrician came out and gave an estimate to update all of my electrical systems and HVAC technician came to look at the unit and do some small repairs and make suggestions on upgrades. Eventually I got them to quote replacing a hot water heater, but the price was so high I ended up getting other quotes. Overall, I'm not going to go into detail on those projects, but I do want everyone to know that when you work with this company, they will always be the most expensive option. Initially I was okay paying a premium if I was always going to be taken care of, then this happened. April 22nd of this year, my outdoor AC unit started shaking and making a loud noise so I called in had a technician scheduled to come out. When he came out he said the motor was about to go so he replaced it and the fan - all covered under the Gold Plan, great. Then Friday evening, June 24th, my outdoor unit completely stopped working. I called in to Michael & Son to get a technician out, it was around 7:15pm, and the representative answered and took my information but unfortunately my Gold plan had expired 3 days ago...Okay, at this point it’s 90 degrees outside and I just want someone to come fix the issue...According to the rep it didnt matter that the Gold Plan had expired because they wouldn’t have any technicians available until Monday. So I just hung up, never got a call back, or any type of follow up. I found Capital City Heating and Air online, filled out their form for Emergency Service and the owner came out first thing the next morning. He took a look at the unit, found out that the motor was wired incorrectly and was completely burnt out, along with the fan blade being bent causing the unit to be unbalanced. He replaced the motor, the fan, and added refrigerant and the house was back to normal. Note, that this was an emergency call on a Saturday morning so there was an afterhours fee, along with parts, etc to get everything fixed – Total: $585. All because the Michael & Sons technician installed the replacement that was put in 2 months prior incorrectly. The good news is, under Capital City Heating & Air, there is now a 1 year parts and labor warranty. With Michael & Sons you get a full 30 days! So, we get through the weekend, I call in and get ahold of the HVAC Manager on June 27, discuss with him and send him the documentation he requests, and he says he’ll get back with me. I follow up with him via email on June 30 & July 5, and then July 11 by phone & email but never get any responses. That is where everything has ended up with this; no response, no follow up, no customer service. “Michael & Sons will always be the most expensive, but they will always have someone there when you need them,” that’s what another plumber who quoted the hot water heater replacement told me. That wasn’t the case with me. They were always the most expensive – I cant upload a pdf for proof but when compared; the prices $536 for a fan blade from Michael & Son to the $40 from Capital City and $920 for a motor, compared to $190 – how is that even possible? More importantly, they were not there when my AC went out in the middle of summer and they are not willing to own up to the mistake they made that caused it to go out in the first place. I would not recommend this company to anyone, they will cost you more money up front and in the long run.

I love the new toilet. The service provider arranged my appointment promptly, showed up on time, removed the old toilet, and installed the new toilet. He took extra care to make sure the toilet was working and that the bathroom was left clean.
Description of Work: Replaced a toilet in the powder room that had been leaking. They were able to provide me with a toilet at a very reasonable cost that was a better quality than the one I initially ordered.

The plumber was unable to make the needed repairs but ultimately did replace a small bit of PVC drain pipe under the bathroom sink. He suggested I contact someone who could check my septic/sewer system to see whether there could be blockage beyond the walls of my bathroom. I was told that because I'd purchased $200 worth of services for $119 but then received $125 worth of work via the PVC pipe replacement, the remainder would be put on account as a credit for any future work. When I called a few weeks later to check on that account credit, I was told it wasn't applicable. When I challenged this and then asked to speak with a supervisor, I was told that I was "ridiculous" and was made to feel dumb. Eventually, I spoke a manager, who agreed that I should receive at least a partial refund. However, today I received a check for only $35 with a receipt memo with my name and "Ref PISSED OFF CUSTOMER" printed on it.
Description of Work: Address bathroom sink clog and leakage at bottom of toilet fitting.

It did not go well. We paid $680+ for work that barely held up for two hours. Their response to this was that they didn't guarantee their work. I had to follow up several times just to get a receipt for this paid invoice. In addition, the switches they installed (and charged us for) had to be replaced as the next electrician who came by said they were the wrong type of switches for a pool pump and heater. The switches Michael and Sons installed were rendered useless after the breaker tripped. At one point I had the switch in the off position and my pump was still running! Their estimate of $19,000 for new wiring and new breaker panels (the electrician who followed up said the breaker panels were perfectly fine) was outrageous. I followed up with emails and phone calls and spoke with the electrician about my disappointment in their work. The electrician justified the work by saying he "told me that the work they did wasn't guaranteed" and that the proper thing to do was do the additional work on their proposal. While on the phone, I told him that I hadn't yet received the invoice. It took another email and a follow-up phone call to receive the proposal and paid invoice. They even sent me the wrong invoice for another client. It was clear to me after working with Michael and Sons how they manage to pay for expensive advertising and sleek looking folders to present to clients...ripping people off and proposing unnecessarily expensive solutions.
Description of Work: Provider responded to electrical issue I was having with the pool pump. The breaker that controlled the pool pump kept tripping, especially in wet weather. Upon analysis by electrician, a "temporary fix" was offered to hopefully keep the pool pump operating through the weekend. There was a possibility that the wiring under the ground was damaged and water contacting the wiring via rain or otherwise was causing the breaker to trip. The electrician replaced switches out by the pool pump as he said the previous electrician didn't properly caulk/silicone the switch boxes. When he unscrewed the box, water did indeed come out. Upon leaving, the pump/electrical work held up for about 2 hours. When I had checked the work after a couple hours, the breaker was tripping again. He charged us $680+ for this band-aid work. They did not guarantee their work. They provided an estimate around $9000 for putting in new lines in conduit. The electrician also told me that we should replace our breaker panels for another $10,000. He also tried to sell me on whole house care plans, etc.

I called Michael & Son twice - both experiences very good! First, on April 11 2016 after seeing them highly rated on Angie's List. Neal came out to fix my running toilet -- he did a "tank refresh" which involved replacing all of the hardware inside the tank *and* the tubing that runs from the tank to the water valve. It was pretty pricey but he reminded me about the Angie's List deal (I had seen it , but forgot about it) which brought the price down considerably. The whole experience was really good. Neal is very polite and pleasant, wore shoe covers, seems super capable and nice. He did a neat job and did not take too long. He was extremely nice to deal with. Then today, the same toilet tank started running again! I couldn't figure out why, so I called Michael & Son . They didn't have an appointment free until tomorrow but I told them I would go crazy with the noise all day and they said they could do a standby kind of appointment where the plumber would call 30 min beforehand. Since I was planning to be home all day, I said great! The person on the phone was very nice. Neal called at 10:25 and said he was half an hour away -- and he arrived bang on time. He was extremely pleasant again, found the issue very quickly (a part of the flapper had gotten dislodged), fixed it and checked carefully to be sure it was fixed, all with a smile on his face. There was no charge for the visit. He told me that his work was warrantied for a year and I shouldn't hesitate to call him if I had trouble. He didn't seem in a rush although I know that he had had to fit this visit into his schedule, and he clearly takes pride in his work. So now I am putting Michael & Son into my phone list as My Plumber -- thanks to Neal!

We knew from experience in Northern Virginia that the advantage of Michael and Son is full array of services and responsiveness, but also with a price tag. We contacted Michael and Son to provide plumbing and electrical services at our home in Holly Springs NC in large part due to calls to smaller and more local service providers going unanswered. At some point, it just is worth it to try it this way to get the work done and move on rather than hassling with unresponsive service providers. One caution besides price point, be alert to not accept more work and expense than is necessary. Regarding work performed. Edwin and Aaron arrived on time to do the plumbing work. They were both professional, friendly, answered our questions and did the work to our satisfaction. David arrived later, a bit late, but kept us informed of this to perform the electrical work. He also was professional and did a great job.
Description of Work: Rebuilt inside mechanisms for 3 toilets, flushed hot water heater, inspected HVAC and other systems. Electrician replaced and thoroughly tested all smoke/fire detectors, added an outlet and inspected and tested all electrical systems in the home.

A friend was here, who also took a look at leaking drain and recommended sealing. Michael & Son plumber disagreed at first. Upon further consideration, realized the friend was correct and completed the repair. It's rare to see someone admit that they are wrong; especially when they are the "expert." Much appreciated the positive attitude and the repair job.

We started we out needing a plumber and Rob was sent over. He was punctual and efficient. He discovered fairly quickly that the plumbing problem was really an electricity issue. Our pumping system for for the bathroom located in the basement did not have any electricity running through it since it had shut off. Within 2 hours Jason was sent over and he assessed the problem and within 20 minutes, explained it and replaced the unit. Our overall experience was EXCELLENT. We were able to have our bathroom working within the same day. Both technicians were at our house in the same day and because they are all in the same company, they spoke with each other and fixed our odorous problem in and timely and efficient manner. We were most impressed with them both and would definitely use their services again.
Description of Work: We were having a plumbing issue in our home and determined we needed a plumber. Rob was sent out to assist us and found out fairly quickly that a electrician was needed. He was very professional and knowledgable. While he was there he checked on another plumbing problem and quickly fixed it and explained how to take care of it in the future. He called his company for an electrician and within a few hours Jason was over to resolve our problem.

Electrician and plumber worked all day. Jonathan Pearce, the plumber worked into the evening to finish. Never lost his smile or sense of humor. Both were competent, patient, and very professional. Office staff answered quickly and were helpful. Highly recommend this company.

We contacted Michael & Son via their website regarding a leaky shower head. We were able to have somebody sent out the following morning, they could have sent somebody that day for an extra fee but our issue was not that urgent, good to know they can accommodate emergencies. On the day of service we received a call approximately 30 minutes before plumber Joe Lomax arrived. I cannot say enough good things about Joe, he is fantastic! Joe discussed the issue I was having and took a look at the situation and explained to me what the issue was and how he would be able to repair it then provided me with a straightforward and very fair estimate. During the repair Joe pointed out where the plumbing issue was so I could see exactly what we were dealing with and things to watch for the future and also areas we may want to check for water damage and mold. A short time later and we now have a beautiful new, leak free, shower. I am very pleased with the workmanship and service that Joe provided and will definitely use Michael & Son in the future.

I called Michael and Son and they had a plumber come out next day. Everett came out and he was very good about showing me and explaining to me what he needed to replace and why. He had to take out all the pipes that were in there and put in all new ones. His job was done right and cleaned everything up after. The sink now drains fast and correctly. I am not in fear about the pipes backing up or the dishwasher blowing water all over the place! He is a really fantastic plumber I will use him again and Michael and Son for future needs in our home.
Description of Work: They came in and overhauled the pipes under our kitchen sink. When we moved in we found that it was a total DIY job and it was done incorrectly and also not safe or to code by any means.

Contractor was on time and friendly. He performed the requested repairs and made recommendations for additional minor issues which we also got done while he was there. We purchased a Silver Home Care Agreement in addition to the repairs which gives us routine inspection on electrical and plumbing as well as air conditioning and heating system inspection and tune up. In comparing the prices of repair, it seems pricey for the time and type of work that was performed however the work was well done and performed in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Repaired a leaky faucet, repaired kitchen sink undermount that came unsealed, connected a water supply line for new dishwasher.

Everett arrived at our house on a very hot and humid Saturday afternoon. Even though it was almost evening, he thoroughly diagnosed and fixed the flow of water at our water meter. He was very professional and pleasant to deal with!
