Response from Leon Home Repairs
Thanks for taking the time to review our company as it helps us grow and better serve our customers in the future. Unfortunately this review is somewhat misleading as we did respond to this member and she let us know that our emails were going to her junk folder which wasn’t being checked. I also personally left a voicemail for her which was unreturned prior to this review being posted. We’ve spoken with the member and cleared up the misunderstanding and would hope this review is updated accordingly. We take pride in providing a level of craftsmanship and customer service that is hard to find these days and would hope any member reading this would take a look at our other reviews to get an idea of the service you can expect when you choose Leon Home Repairs for your project. Thanks for taking the time to visit our Angie’s List page and we look forward to working with you! Chris – Owner, Leon Home Repairs

I was initially disappointed with the company. Chris came out to review the work and estimate how long it would take on a Friday. He said he would email me the information. I did not hear from him for a week. I called and finally, after several promises, I received the information and was able to set up an appointment to have the work done. They arrived on time, were professional, and did a good job. I think the company was overwhelmed by the amount of work from their Angie's List Deal. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: I purchased 5 hours of general carpentry work. Two men arrived and were here for about 2 hours. They built a gate at the top of the stairs to the deck, hung a large mirror, and fixed 2 stuck door.

They were prompt, quick, pleasant and all around great to work with! Thanks Edison and Rudolph for a great job.
Description of Work: I bought one of their specials by the day and was amazed at how much they got done. I needed a new doorbell, some door trim replaced, the ceiling on my porch repaired, a light fixed in a walk in closet (they figured out that it was just the bulb, no matter what my husband said, and saved us the cost of a new fixture), garbage disposal installed, weather stripping, an assortment of projects to make the house more sale-able.

The corner of my front porch roof has had some obvious water damage for some time where the porch roof meets the house. In April I purchased a deal from this company for a day of water damage repair for $149. I finally got around to scheduling them to come out and take a look at it in September (I hadn't realized that the coupon stated that must contact them, not the other way around, so this delay was my fault). I contacted Chris via email and stated that I would like to have him come out so that I can use the coupon. Chris agreed to come out the following week as soon as his schedule permitted. When his schedule didn't free up, he instead contacted me and came over after normal working hours to assess the damage. Chris was on time and professional. At that time I told him I was looking at some other jobs for the house as well. Chris took the time to assess both what we had already paid for and the other jobs. Within a week or so I received a proposal from Chris to do the work that was part of the coupon as well as the other work that I had mentioned. My lone criticism of this process would be that I would have preferred that the work that I had on the coupon be done on a second contract proposal from the other work that I was still gathering bids on. To be clear, I had NOT specified this to Chris so it isn't a matter of "fault," just a preference I would have liked to see. The additional work outside of the coupon work was extensive and resulted in a roughly 7k proposal. Not having 7k at the time, I sat on the whole thing rather than immediately contacting Chris and requesting he separate the two proposals. Just before Christmas, I contacted Chris via email and stated that I wanted to do the coupon work only and not the rest of the stuff and when could he do it. He contacted me just after the holiday and we agreed that he would come out on the 4th of January to do the work I had already paid for. On the 4th, his brother showed up to do the work (I wish I could remember his name) and he began to remove the damaged material. He was very polite and professional (something we sadly don't see in young people any more). In uncovering the damage, it was revealed that the internal damage that we could not originally see was worse than expected. It would require more than the single day to complete and would require more materials than originally expected. He contacted Chris and Chris and I spoke. Chris quoted me $600 for the additional day of labor plus materials. I agreed and his brother continued working. I expected when he finished for the day on Friday, we would see him again on Monday to complete the work. Instead he showed up Saturday morning and worked throughout the day to complete the job, finishing up just as it got dark. Again he was professional and polite. He asked before doing anything to ensure that it would be OK with me. He had me inspect the work outside and once he had my approval (it looked great), he thanked me for choosing them to do the work. He let me know that the total cost was the $600 we had agreed to and an additional $260 for new wood, new siding and paint. Coupled with the original $150 I paid for the coupon, this totaled to $1010 for the entire job. This was a more than reasonable price for the amount of damage that was there and the work performed. While cleaning up inside the next day, I noticed that two of the nails he used in the repairs had actually come through the drywall (yes the damage was that deep). That same evening I received the invoice via email from Chris for the $860. I replied with my concerns about the nails. Chris immediate replied that his brother would be out the next day to take care of it. His brother again showed up on time. He worked quickly to repair the wall and painted with the paint I provided so that you couldn't tell there had ever been any damage inside. They did these repairs at no additional cost, which I expected. However it should be noted that other contractors have at times asked to be compensated for coming back out to do a repair such as this. Chris never even mentioned it. It was his desire from the start to ensure that I was happy with the final results, not that he make any additional money on the job. Overall, the experience with this company was pleasant and the work that they did was done well. I will post the pictures of the damage below and will post additional pictures of the finished product within the next few days. I was very happy with their work and will be bringing them back out to do some additional work inside my home and perhaps some work on my roof.
Description of Work: Replaced rotted wood in eave of front porch as well as corner of house. Replaced siding from ground to eave level. Painted siding and eave. Replaced faulty flashing that caused problem in the first place.

DId a great job - Fixed a number of things that I'd been meaning to get done for a long time. Edison also found a problem with the way our windows were installed as well, that probably will have saved us a lot of money in the long run. We had a mysterious water spot on our kitchen ceiling. Turned out to be water draining from the window through the wall!

We are not faulting the quality of the work. The actual workman did a very nice job and was professional. We only fault his boss for a less than professional initial quote of the scope and costs of the job. The quote should be in writing with a detailed sketch and a real total price. Also, he quoted labor, but not materials. Both labor and materials should be itemized up front before the job begins.
Description of Work: The second gentleman who did the actual work did a lovely job, always, but the first gentleman, the owner who set up the job, did not itemize. His concept of the scope of the work and mine did not match. I thought he was suggesting more work than he meant would be covered under the initial agreement. This happened twice. Once for the garage doors, I thought he meant the whole surround would be repaired, but he meant only the vertical pieces and I had to pay a lot more for the top rail to be included. Again on the eave vent, I thought we agreed on taking off the wood trim and the screening and painting the wood behind when he only meant to paint the wood trim. Again, the craftsman did a little and I had to say, I thought you were going to do it all, and then the boss said, oh no, that would be so much more dollars to do that. What began as a small price quickly doubled both times. Again, the work was well done, it seems, but the lack of estimating the whole job up front in writing unexpectedly doubled the price . It left a bad impression. Also this is the second time we have felt burnt by your pre-paid coupon arrangement. (The first was Big Sky Landscaping who only did a walk around.) The first work is is never itemized and it is not clear what the coupon funds were used for. To get the real job done always costs an unknown lots more. Lucy Rozier, Michael Clow's wife

Overall my experience was okay. Chris came out to assess the work. Originally there were four areas of the house which had wood rot. However I ended up only with only one area repaired, since there was a language barrier regarding the meaning of the word itemize. He emailed an estimate to me, and he wanted to charge me additional money for the repairs(not including material) I thought 6 hours from the coupon would have "covered" the repairs. Several emails were sent back and forth, until I gave up on getting an itemized estimate. The repair was done by a gentleman who knew even less English. ( He was Hispani.)It took him 3 hours to do the job instead of six, half the time I paid for, but then no material was charged for. Also the window sill turned out great.

Chris came out and gave an estimate which was the best of the three I had received. I chose premium lumber versus the Home Depot/Lowes lumber. His crew was on time and went to work right away. It took a little longer to finish the job because of rain, but the deck looks fantastic! I spent a little more than wanted to, but they did a great job! I would definitely hire them again.

Overall, I am pleased with the work performed. It took awhile to schedule the work, which is just as much, if not more my fault than the contractor's. I would use this contractor again.
Description of Work: This was an original response to a coupon for wood rot repair and I decided to add in replacement of our front door. It took awhile to coordinate the work due to competing schedules and my lack of availability, but we were finally able to schedule several months after I originally purchase the deal. I purchased the new front door and a storm door, and the contractor purchased all the remaining materials. Once we were finally able to schedule the work, they were very punctual and very conscientious about the quality and cleaning up after themselves. The team of two replace the front door, and replaced wood and siding around the back door to the deck and the side door. They workers were also extremely courteous in their interactions with my wife and me.

These guys did a great job. Very professional and A+ repair. On the downside, it was more expensive than I would have liked and took a long time. I think they offer a high quality product and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. On a bigger job, I'd probably want to have some other bids to compare prices.

Came out for estimate within a couple of days of calling. Chris was very clear and honest in surveying the job, estimate received via email a day later. Took a while to schedule the work, but that was due to my hectic schedule - which also lengthened the job. Actual work time was 3-4 days, but took about 3 weeks total to complete since I was not able to be at home often. The workers (at most 3 there at one time) were very nice and considerate (wore booties and gentle with any furniture that had to be moved). Very impressed with the end results: Drywall repair was done extremely well - can't tell where the holes used to be after painting. Exterior trim work is also very nice - paint lines are nice and tidy. No complaints!
Description of Work: Interior - Repaired some holes left in drywall (approximately 10 of them) made by plumber that replaced water lines. Exterior - Repaired and painted all exterior trim (including door/window frames).

Everything went well. The paint doesn't match, but that is my fault as I forgot to leave the matching paint out for him. Also, I'm having all the windows replaced in the spring, so it needed to get through the wet winter and it looks like it definitely will.
Description of Work: The wood had rotted on my two long windows in the back. Chris came and looked at them and explained what he thought could be done to fix them. I had purchased a "big deal" from him and he was able to complete all the work necessary within that price range. He was very professional. I would use him in the future.

The crew arrived right on time, got straight to work and did a great job. It started to rain so they had to leave the work site early, but returned promptly the next day to complete the job.
Description of Work: Leon Home Repair came to repair some wood rot on our back deck. They also provided a thorough assessment and found several other areas in need of repair. Once they got under the wood to remove it they found that part of our screen in porch roof had been damaged due to water incursion and also provided a fair estimate for the repair and were able to fix this problem on the spot as well. The crew was very professional, timely and courteous. Their work was done well.

Chris and his crew were very professional, even putting on "booties" when they came through the house. They were prompt, even arriving ahead of time on the first day, as well as pleasant and respectful. The job took an extra four hours (very reasonable) due to having to replace the entire wall and the workers stayed until just before 7:00 PM to finish the job. I am very satisfied with the work and interactions with Leon Home Repairs and the deal was just great. Thanks Chris and crew!
Description of Work: Chris Leon came to the house to see what types of repair I needed and there were lots of varied tasks. The deal included 2 hours of consultation. He told me what could be accomplished within the 40 hours of work and therefore I chose repair of water damage to my 4- season room . This included removing the water-damaged sheetrock from the entire wall as the original installers had not put in a moisture barrier at installation. The laminate flooring and liners were removed as well as they had mold (mildew?) in them as well. The areas were treated with a commercial grade bleach (?) to kill the mold and left to dry to ensure the mold was gone. They installed new sheetrock with a vapor barrier, replaced insulation and painted the wall. I believe that plaster was applied to the wall before painting. Porcelain tile and grouting was installed to replace the laminate. Baseboards were replaced and painted..The room looks so different with the lighter tile rather than the darker laminate. It looks as if the room has just been built. As the walk through did not use up all of the consultation, Chris met me at Lowes to assist me in selecting a color and size of tile that would work with the remainder of the room. He and his crew picked the tiles up for me and other materials they needed to complete the room. Not being a handyman, I didn't know what other materials would be needed.
