Leon's home repair was fantastic! From my first call, to sending someone out for an estimate, to the actual work performed, they were nothing but professional! They were punctual, hard-working (long hours), and professional. The tile work done by Edison is beautiful!!! We are so pleased! I would highly recommend this family owned company!
Description of Work: Master bath & walk in closet remodel. Tore out old flooring (tile & carpet). Tore out tile shower walls, jacuzzi tub & toilet. Built new wall and bench and 6' X 4' shower. Re-centered shower plumbing (had to cut into sub-floor to move shower drain). Installed new backer-board throughout. Installed new tile in the shower (floor and walls) and new tile floor in the bathroom & walk-in closet.

Contractor was very flexible in scheduling. Through no fault of their own, they were not able to provide the full time contracted for (windows required replacement). At their own initiative, they inspected rest of house to repair any other areas of rot that could be identified.

Very well. We purchased the supplies and Mr. Leon was available by text when ever we had questions on what we needed to get. They made suggestions & showed us other similar showers they had done to help us decide what to do in our room. Very clean & respectful of our house. Careful to not let the pets get outside. Due to snow a couple days hey couldn't make it to the house, but were very good about letting us know and even worked one weekend to catch up on missed days. Next time we need repairs we are absolutely calling them again.
Description of Work: Completely re-did a small bathroom. Gutted the room, replaced some damaged beams behind the shower, repaired ceiling, tiled bath & hall floor, installed new tile shower, installed vanity, painted (walls & ceiling), and 'found' some space behind one wall that was made into small storage cubbies.

I assume from the company's rating with the BBB and previous Angie's List customers that if I were not employed full-time and had therefore been able to hover over the workers, consistently available to respond to questions in person, I would not have had some of the problems that I ended up having with them. Before beginning work on the first bathroom I disclosed to the provider that a visual handicap prevented me from driving, so I would not be able to shop for tiles as efficiently as most of his customers. He confirmed that this was OK, and we substituted a system of texted photos from places he drove and on one occasion the provider's brother, who did most of the physical labor on my job, drove with me to Lowes to look at tile (about which the provider complained, as the trip subtracted from time spent on the job). I understand that this situation sets my experience with the provider apart from others, but the upshot is that mid-December, several weeks into the work on the first bathroom, the provider was pressuring me to choose between tiles he had selected within the broad color category I'd initially set, and although I sent the provider links via email to specific tiles I had seen online, repeated break downs in the flow of our communication (conducted entirely through email, text message), led to erroneous purchases, necessitating returns and further delaying the project. That first project lasted from November through January--a shower installation, vent installation, some new hardware (towel racks, t.p. holder), and paint. The length of time it took can be partly attributed to my indecision when it came to tile, because shopping for tile online is a fool's game--the color as perceived through a monitor can't be trusted, and it was the first major aesthetic change I'd be making to this house since purchasing it. I own that indecision, and it was of course exacerbated by my inability to go shopping in person. However, the communication problems were persistent, and not entirely attributable to me. The provider speaks and understands English in a functional, yet limited way, and unfortunately I'm totally ignorant of Spanish. Even if all of our communication had been in person rather than funnelled through texts and email, I think misunderstanding would inevitably have taken place. The provider's brother who, as I mentioned, did most of the physical work on the two projects, speaks and understands English much more fluently, but any translation work he did on his brother's behalf was entirely outside my presence, when a 20 minute conversation between the three of us might have solved a lot of problems and made me aware of things before they grew into problems, as happened on the second project. After the experience with the first bathroom, I felt a lot of pressure to just pick tiles and let them get to work. This, I did as quickly as I could, sending links to tiles I'd seen online. The provider even met with me briefly--again, not in the presence of his brother, so communication was halting--to confirm my tile selections based on print-outs of the links I'd sent. All seemed well, and much better-prepared from my end than on the previous project. Little did I know that the tile I had selected did not have any accompanying bullnose tiles--something I'd just found out existed in the previous project, where I had to pick from two choices the provider offered. The provider sent his brother to work on the demolition and rebuilding of my bathroom space without checking whether a bullnose tile would be available as in the pattern choices he'd given me for the previous project. Consequently, a protruding wall was measured to fit bullnose tiles that didn't exist, and after the provider went around (solo, without having yet told me of the issue) to try and find one that matched, he eventually moved to a new plan to use pencil tiles to line the tiled space. I approved the change once I learned of it, because there seemed little other choice than to make the best of it, and I was assured that the provider had the necessary tools to install this tile, which was different than the previous bathroom. I approved a stone tile that did not match any other tile in the bathroom other than a stone lintel that the provided had selected and installed without my knowledge and which I arrived home to be surprised by one evening. Again, I was assured that this stone could be cut with the provider's tools at the necessary 45 degree angle to "frame" the edges of the tile in my bathtub area (i.e., around the outside of the tub, around soapboxes, and a small transom window that the provider had texted me a photo of, asserting that although it was used, it was "still good," and he'd charge only $50 for it--it occurred to me later that he probably hauled it away as trash from another construction site). I arrived home to another surprise the night the tile was installed, as I found it mounted at 90 degree angles, uncut, one tile atop another. Google "marble pencil tiles" and take a look at the average Home Depot offering if you have a hard time picturing how shoddy, how totally unprofessional this was. The provider's brother was, thankfully, still there when I arrived home, so I was able to talk to him about this and express how unacceptable I found the tiles, and how disappointed I was that I'd been lied to about the provider's ability to cut the material. To his credit, the provider's brother removed the incorrectly installed tiles and promised to talk to his brother about them despite the fact, as he said, the provider had called me to check if this incorrect and incompetent-looking installation was all right with me. (The provider had done no such thing.) The saga of the pencil tiles continued with me receiving updates such as "the tiles we went with originally were of inferior quality, and that is why we could not cut them," and "we'll find better-quality tiles!" There were no better quality tiles to be found, as there had been no bullnose tiles to be found. Ultimately the provider, who had never in fact been in possession of the right tools to cut the tile, complainingly bought a stone-cutter and reinstalled the "inferior" tiles with 45 degree corners. Other issues that arose included the installation of a sink so that it lined up with a tiled counter's tile-lines rather than with the (slightly angled) wall, without notifying or asking me, and assurances that after the installation they would clean up. Insofar as clean-up goes, they left my yard littered with garbage, including bits of wood, tile backing, and a rusty razor blade. They left my bathtub with grout literally stuck to its inner sides. The painting that finished both projects was amateurish at best--visible dripping, colored paint veering into white trim rather than clean/straight lines, smears. To summarize: I had issues with the provider that stemmed first from my own capabilities, as I have a full time job and am unable to drive. Prospective customers with "normal" mobility and copious free hours during the work week would at the very least avoid the complications that arose out of communicating entirely through text and email. But, I also had issues that arose of of the provider's unethical practices: his willingness to cut me out of decisions and his willingness to make decisions that were not only not in my favor, but actively incompetent. Upshot, I'd recommend Leon Home Repairs to anyone who doesn't care about aesthetic quality or professional responsiveness and can take being ripped off with a grin.
Description of Work: The provider remodelled two bathrooms, including vent installation, window removal/replacement, fixes to the home exterior siding following window removal, tile shower installation, 1x sink and shelving installation, and painting. The price estimate for cost of service is both bathrooms together.

I called to request an estimate on drywall finishing. When I finally received a call back. The gentleman told me he doesn't cover my area. I live in Pittsboro just outside of chapel hill. Company profile on List and Company website clearly states that they cover chapel hill. I found the interaction very unprofessional and would not recommend or use their service.

It took a while to connect and there was some confusion and phone tag initially. I called them to verify and was able to reschedule and get back on track. On the day of service, they were late for the 9:00 appointment. Again, they had tried reaching out via email because they lost my number. When I checked my email, sure enough there was a message indicating they would be late due to a previous job taking longer than expected. They asked if 1:00 would work. They finished sooner than anticipated and called me just before noon to see if they could come on out. They replaced a total of four steps. The repair was actually done better than the original construction. The support solution they used was way better. They finished in about 45 minutes and charged me less than the quoted amount because they didn't have to paint.
Description of Work: Steps from my deck had rotted and eventually two of the five steps broke under pressure. They came out and replaced the treads supports.

First, it took several weeks to schedule which was much longer than I had expected or experienced in the past with other providers. Second, I had a list of things that I wanted them to do around the house when they came but the person that came had his own ideas. He seemed to only want to do plumbing and he avoided anything else that we had on the list even though it was a higher priority. He seemed scared of caulking around our countertop for some reason I can't figure out. He wouldn't install our remote entry remote keypad that has simple instructions in the box. Anyhow...disappointed in the service and would not use again.

Scheduled for early December after a few attempts, including a visit when it was too wet to work. Ismael was very good to work with and he did a nice job with the window sill replacement/repair (better than the painters on one years before). Generally siding was good too, but upon further looking: 1) he put siding over what I now see is rotten facing board under it on one side of house. Will have to be pulled and redone. 2) ended up getting paint on the deck in multiple places (not just drips but paint strokes). I know he was called away and may have felt rushed. I can clean off I guess, but all he needed was a piece of cardboard under it I would have thought. The price was reasonable overall, even with extended hours. But communications to get scheduled were a bit difficult. I do appreciate that he made one trip and had to cancel and return later on another day.

The two guys showed up on Friday afternoon but did not have the materials to do the job. Off to Home Depot one went while the other finished a few things then sat around on his cell phone. Of course, the clock is ticking while he sat in Friday rush hour traffic: 2 guys for 1 hour = 2 hours of labor. They cut pieces of the trim out instead of replacing entire pieces. They replaced the pieces with wood instead of composite material. They caulked and nailed the pieces in. For a few pieces of pine they charged me another ~$80, no receipt. The job took longer than they thought so another 2 hours of man labor also tacked on. I had to call them back when the next day the screens wouldn't fit back in. It took two trips for them to get it right after the first repair. I was out on the roof today and their "repair" is now coming apart.
