He "finished" the work described and asked us to come in and take a look. There was no sunshine, it was getting late, and the only light to view the job was the light on the ceiling fan and poor overhead lighting. In the dark it seemed o.k. I wrote him a check for $1457 which he took. He seemed honest and friendly so I didn't mind doing that. I asked him if I were to find anything that needed touching up after I had a chance to see it in the daylight if he would come back and take care of it. He said yes he would. The next day was a shock! Some areas of the closets had no paint on them at all and other areas had one coat that you could see through. That wasn't the worst of it, however. The ceilings were pretty much a mess with lots of "popcorn" still on them and several dozen gouge marks. He had not lowered any of the ceiling lights or the fan and just worked around them. I called him and asked him to come over and take a look and repair the areas that needed repairing. He said he would be over that afternoon. He later called and said he would not be able to come over that afternoon but would be here Friday morning. He came Friday morning and stayed for less than an hour and said he had to go. He put on some crack filler in a few areas and left saying he would be back Sunday morning at 9am. He did not show up. We left a total of 7 messages and he has not returned any of them. My husband and I worked for three days scraping, patching, and filling the amateur ceiling job and then had to completely repaint it, in the master bedroom, sitting area, and both closets. We also had to spend money on ceiling paint, crack filler, rollers, paint trays, etc. In the last message I left him I requested a partial refund on the money I had given him. I stated that I thought it was unethical and possibly illegal to cash my check and not return to finish the job. I have several photos to document this extremely poor workmanship and only wish there was a way to post them on this site. .
Description of Work: He was hired to remove the popcorn ceiling in the master suite and attached sitting room and 2 closets, seal and apply 2 coats of paint. Also, paint the walls in these areas with the paint I supplied.
