The job was well done and I was very impressed. He fixed all of the drywall issues. One guy came to fix the drywall. It was easy to schedule an appointment with them. They were punctual and great proactive behaviors to let me know when he is coming out to my home. He was great with the clean up afterwards.

They were very professional and accommodating. With obvious experience and skill they were able to come up with several beautiful solutions to existing problems. We are very happy with all the work they did.
Description of Work: Replaced crown, baseboard, and shoe molding, rebuilt a warped drawer and cabinet to match existing cabinetry, replaced a hollow core door with a solid door. Also custom added new finish pieces to the existing island sides.

Estimator arrived previous day to view work. Workers arrived on time and promptly built and installed wooden shelves. At my request they were left unfinished so I could paint them myself. Clean-up was exemplary.

I purchased the $149 voucher through Angie's for 6 hours of carpentry work and was contacted by JHR to schedule a visit to look at the job. He did not want to give an estimate at that moment but provided it 2-3 days later. We decided to go with him based on the estimate. JHR has a lot of issues communicating - the estimate stated that cost of the job (material and labor). On the day of the job, JHR calls asking us to send a picture of the crown molding so that they can buy it. Two guys (JHR and his co-worker) show up around 10. JHR drops him and goes again to buy additional material. During the day, JHR conducts other business on the phone, while we were patiently waiting and not really tracking their time. When they get done, JHR quotes me a number 50 percent higher than the estimate. I end up paying $50 less the second quote because they completed the job. It was a very expensive and overpriced piece of work. I asked JHR for a quote to paint the crown molding and the rooms. JHR came back after a week with an estimate of $1800 which was $1000 higher than the provider we went with. Initially, we were planning to get more carpentry work done in our home but JHR essentially lost it with this. I would NOT recommend JHR to anyone. JHR charges too much and does not communicate properly. You need him to explain what is in his estimate.

What a shame to think that about our company, the quotes said $600 for material when the actual cost was approximately of $850. The hours that where worked at your project are approximately 8hrs between 2 carpenters, and the work that was done were 4 big rooms, and two bathrooms with 2 pieces of crown mold, An approximate price for this type of project is of $1800 with the coupon purchased, you only paid $1150, we offer you and apology with the estimate confusion. If we can do anything to change your way of thinking we would gladly be at your disposal, Thank you for your business. JHR Contractors Inc.

The work was done well and I would use them again...the one problem was getting the work scheduled. One afternoon I received a call asking where I was - the date and time were never confirmed, yet they had a worker waiting at my home. The next time it was scheduled was for a Saturday morning, which was very convenient, and that morning I received an email stating that something came up and he would not be there (very annoying to have last minute email and not a phone call). Finally the appointment was set for 8:30 on February 17th and he arrived at 9:15. One he was on site the job was done well.
Description of Work: I had several areas of drywall that needed touch up/repairs.

Have not been contacted since January 27; it is now March 3. Decided to cancel. Thanks for refund. I was contacted by the provider and it appears that I did not receive follow-up emails. It is too bad about the mix-up but I have decided to put off the repair for a while.

Jose showed up on time. Took notes of what was needed. He said he would get back in two days. That was over a week now. I texted him and got no reply. Seemed like a decent guy... UPDATE: 2/22/2014: ...and he is a decent guy. He did contact me after my email address was given and made things right. Called today to confirm the appointment and that was appreciated by me.

The guy who came to quote was very nice. I described the issue. He did not root cause in any way. I got a second quote who , during the initial visit , gave me a full root cause quote. The work done fir the same number hours as "the deal" was less in cost and much more work was accomplished.
Description of Work: they did not contact me until 2 weeks after I or gazed "the deal". Quote was not thorough fir the full job. Offered very little work for the hours purchased and then did not attempt to root cause the problems prior to wanting yo begin the work .

I bought the big deal of 6 hours of work from this provider. First of all, scheduling the work took longer than I thought. They are very slow in responding to e-mails (several days). I have sent the list of the things I wanted to be done in e-mail, I was told they will be done in six hours and if needed, extra hours will be $50/hr. On the day of the work, two guys arrived on time. They were 2 guys for 3 hours so total 6 hours. But all they did was install 8 curtain rods in total of 6 hours! The windows were standard and drapes were 108'' long. It was not odd shaped windows or 2 stories windows. I thought they could have done more in six hours. Even with the sluggish work (and it was okay), I wanted to buy more time to finish the rest of the stuff in the list, but they did not respond to my e-mail for weeks! I would hire them again only if I don't find anybody else to do the stuff or I have to .

I contacted them because of the 149 Angie's list carpentry deal. I contacted them directly before signing up for the big deal because I wanted to be sure they could work within my schedule. They said there was no reason to buy the deal because they would discount the estimate accordingly. The first estimate they gave me seemed reasonable for the required carpentry, but it did not show any discount and it included a $450 fee to paint an area about the size of a small closet. I asked to have another estimate without the painting and with the discount applied which they did. The new estimate was for $1160.00. This was to include carefully removing and replacing the carpet on the stairs. I asked them to just remove and not replace the carpet instead. When we realized that they were not going to replace the handrail, we asked for another estimate to do that work. The estimate for the handrail was $410. What we got for the $1570 was a the wall at the bottom of the stairs which they were going to glue to the carpet. We told them that it must be installed directly on the concrete which they did, but it is only attached to the concrete with liquid nail. The door and the rail are unfinished wood, and there is no handle on the door. The wall where they removed the railing will still need to be sanded by us before we can paint. When they removed the carpet from the stairs, they left the tack strip, staples, etc. My son had the clean the stairs before we could safely walk on them. To top all this off, they insisted that the $1570 was not what was agreed upon. They wanted the money from the original estimate which I had rejected. I have both estimates (the enclosure $1160 and the rail $410) in writing and I do not intend to pay more. A representative came out to view the work and agreed to do a little more to make me happy with the work, but my family pitched in and finished the project. What I found out is that you need to be sure you understand everything in their contract and clarify even the smallest detail. For example, since I decided to not have them do the painting which I considered a very high fee. They took that to mean that they did not have to do spackling, wood fill, etc. and where they did do some, it still needed more sanding and prep before painting. As for clean up, the contract did say broom swept which obviously didn't do much. The contract said oak railing, but I was not expecting it to be unfinished. They did do what the contact stated, but it was not what I expected and they did want to try to make it right.

one man, Jose, came to cut and install some baseboards that we had previously painted. he was friendly and punctual. He did quite a quick job of cutting them and installing them. In 5 hours he was done with that part of the job. The second part of the job consisted of him using wood putty to cover the nails and white caulk over and under the baseboards in a white thin line. This second part was apparently very time consuming because it took him three full hours, at $50.00 per hour. I think he had never done this type job before because he expressed reservations about how it would look afterwards, and suggested that he should install quarter rounds after the baseboard. He also did not do a very good job with the caulk at first (the lines were smudgy in parts, and not continuous. I had to retouch them myself), but improved after a while. The finished job was quite good and he was friendly. Overall, it looked great and it saved me a bundle.
