I called Hanson today, the day after I found out about a broken spring. I spoke with Jeremy who is part owner and he was a great and nice guy. He had a fairly full schedule as it is Good Friday, but was able to fit us in at the end of the day. They had a few jobs that went over so Jeremy came out along with 2 of his guys and they knocked out a conversion in about 30 minutes. The guys were all amazing and very friendly. They warranty their labor for 3 years and use heavy duty parts that should last quite a while. Their pricing was also very competitive and we don't have a broken door over Easter weekend. So very HIGHLY recommended!!!!

Same-day service provided. Phillip called me when he was on the way from completing his previous job and arrived within minutes of his expected time. He replaced the broken spring, lubricated all moving parts, did a "general tuneup", and tested to make sure the door and opener were working properly. He was very efficient with his time and extremely professional and courteous throughout the encounter. He had replaced the motor last summer so we knew what to expect from him and this company: top-notch and timely service; knowledgeable and professional. Great company.
Description of Work: Garage door wouldn't open; spring was broken.

This company is under new ownership and management and is very responsive to customer requests. Technician came out within a day of initial phone call and was on-time and very professional. He obviously knew what he was doing. He examined all the mechanical parts, adjusted the sensors (one was off just a little and was causing the intermittent problem), and lubricated the rollers, hinges, springs, and chain. He also checked to make sure the chain had the proper adjustment/tension. In addition, he explained everything he was doing and added a number of tips for routine maintenance that I could perform myself every 3 months in order to prolong the life of the mechanisms and avoid trouble calls in the future. Excellent service delivered in a very friendly and helpful manner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company and will always use them in the future.

This is an unsafe provider -- I will be reporting this incident to the BBB and documenting it online with pictures. I want to make sure other families don't use this provider and end up with an unsafe garage door. The team did not have the necessary expertise to do the job and left the garage in an unsafe condition after failing to perform the work. They mentioned they did not have anyone else who could come out (4pm on a Friday) to assist them and mentioned they would send someone else on Monday. They said that I could manually open the door and put my cars back in the garage. When I rolled the door up, it pop

Response from Hanson Overhead Garage Door Service
The customer has not been very forthcoming in his review. We never left the door in an unsafe way. The tracks were not adjusted due to the fact he kicked them out and would not them adjust anything. The door would have operational when we left if he had not done this. Those pictures are after they were kicked off his property without having to finishing the final adjustments to the track. He raised the door and the top panel came out of the track. In fact, in twenty years, we have never left a door where it was not properly adjusted and balance. We value safety. He failed to mention that he went into a rage and became verbally abusive to our technicians after they tried to explain that the springs that had been calibrated from the distributor would need to be replaced for a stronger gauge springs. When he was told it would be Monday, he went into a violent rage screaming at the top of his lungs and demanding it to be done that day. The senior technician tried to explain that the distributors were closed for the weekend. It was Friday afternoon at 4:30pm. He was never told we would have to send someone else out Monday or to have anyone to assist them. He started cursing my technician using the Lord’s name in vain, belittling him and my technician told him to stop yelling and cursing at him. He then told my technician to get the Hell out his garage. The job took much longer than expected not due to no fault or lack of expertise of our technicians. The extra hours of labor were never charged to the customer, because once we have the customer sign the contract, that is the price. I regret how this escalated to the point but this customer was in a state of rage They thought he had snapped. At no time ever has a customer flew off the handle because we trying to look after their best interest. He had hired us to perform a job. We gained nothing by having to go back out there and exchange the springs. This was lost of man time, labor, fuel, and additional cost for the springs. We just wanted the door to be properly balanced, not force to be balanced by adding additional winds to the springs. We could have said nothing and done just that and installed the operator, got paid and gone on our way. My technicians are trained to do things correctly, safe, properly. We value our customer’s interest and safety. We were to perform a job that is not done everyday. The customer wanted to take his existing door and raise it 12”. It sounds simple but there are many other factors involved in this. One major thing is that the hardware and springs have to be replaced. Now, since the door was installed without high lift, we take the dimensions of the existing spring and calibrate to handle weight of the door the additional foot. Sometimes no significant change is needed but with heavier doors this is not so. First thing they had to add the 12” extension to the track. This was a minor problem. Most tracks come in two sections, horizontal and vertical, and the extension is placed on the vertical right where the horizontal track comes together. The customer’s track was welded and was a one-piece track. This was not very easy and it took time to get both tracks up and place the extension on the bottom. Adjustments on getting it squared would come after they had completed changing everything else out. Track would then be adjusted and aligned correctly. They got everything on the door and started to wind the springs. When they had wound the second spring the cables were under extreme tension. At that very moment, the cables snaps and the technician who was winding the spring had his winding bar still in the spring. The springs started unwinding violently. The technician let go of the winding bar just in time before it would have broken his hand. The winding bar landed still stuck in the spring half loaded with tension against the customer’s wall. The force pushed the winding into the wall leaving a small hole about 1/2'” by 3” just above the doorframe. After securing the spring and releasing the rest of the tension, the senior tech began to examine what had just happened. The cables have a stop at the end to lock into the drum to wind up securely. They were not securely crimped and the cables were defected and released when the tension of the springs were applied. This presented another minor problem that was in no way a lack of expertise by our techs. In fact, it was the expertise and experience of the techs to not have gotten seriously hurt. The customer was not home when this all occurred. He did arrive shortly afterwards and the tech working on the operator told him of the accident and showed him the small hole where the winding bars made. The tech said that we would take of the hole and fix it. The customer did not get mad and acknowledged back to tech. The senior tech came back with the cable and they proceeded through the same process again. When they had wound the springs the senior tech lifted the door to check the door’s balance. The door was heavy to lift up by hand. The senior tech made the call to come back with stronger springs to make the door more balanced. He could have put more winds on the existing springs but that would force the door to be balanced. He told the other tech that they would tell the customer they would come back Monday because it was now after 4:30pm and the distributor was closed for the weekend. He said to the other tech we can get the door set with the operator and we can put a few more winds on the springs installed for the weekend for him to be able to use his door. He proceeded to go to talk to the customer. He started to explain to him that they would have to change the springs but it would have to be Monday because they were now closed. At this point the customer went berserk. He started yelling and demanding that someone else better bring out those springs right then and finish. He started cursing and saying the Lord’s name in vain and then started telling them that they did not know what they were doing and that they were idiots. He told them they wasted the whole day because they did not know an f---ing thing. He then starts cursing directly at the senior tech. The tech told he needed to stop cursing at him. He got violently angry and hollered for him to get the hell out of his garage. My senior tech started to pick up his tools and the customer told him to get out right that moment or he was going to call the law. My senior tech told him to call the law. My senior tech then proceeded to the truck and the customer followed him trying to get him to fight. The other tech was scared in the garage and started to clean up and get his tools. The customer comes back in the garage and started hollering at the other tech demanding to speak to the owner. My tech called me. I was in Florida on my first vacation since my wife passed away. He started to tell me what was happening and ask he was speaking the customer took his phone and started hollering at me saying that I sent two people out there who did not know what they were doing. I immediately disagreed with him. He said that they almost hurt themselves and they put a hole in the wall. I answered that if we did any damage we would take of it. I told him that my senior tech did indeed know what he was doing. He then began hollering at me and talking over me and telling me that I was an incompetent owner. He said I better get someone out there and he did not want these a—holes on his property. I told it would not be tonight and I would make a call and see if I could get someone out tomorrow. At this point, I still have not talked to my techs to see what had happened. I just got cussed out and I wasn’t sure what for. He then proceeded to tell me that he was going to ruin my reputation. He said he took pleasure in taking down companies like me. I kept telling him to calm down so we could talk civil. He hung up in my face. The tech in the garage started to gather the parts we had not installed like the operator and he ran over to him and said you are going to take anything from here. He then took the invoice pad and ripped his invoice out of it. Now telling him to get the hell out. I called my techs and they were in the truck leaving. They both said that this man snapped out of the blue. They said they didn’t see it coming. I questioned them thoroughly and asked if he was provoked by one of them. Both techs stated the man went bonkers after telling they were going to have to come back Monday when they could get the springs. The senior tech said that he never got a chance to tell him they were going to get his door more balanced so he could let his cars in. He told him that the door was heavy and they still needed to adjust and align the tracks but when he went off on him, he said he wasn’t going tell him anything. He said he just wanted to get away from that customer. I hung up and called my senior installer and talked to him and to see if he would go over there on Saturday and see if he could go out and adjust the customer’s tracks and align them and maybe put the extra winds on the door to last for the weekend until we got them changed. He said he would call him. I then call this customer back and he did not answer and I left a detail message and assured him we could get it taken care of. My techs had told me that he would not let them retrieve our parts. The parts were over a thousand dollars and I was angry that they left without them. I have worked very hard to build a great reputation. I go out of my way to help those in need. This review has hurt me personally. I think the customer could have handled himself better. I have never had a customer talk to me the way this man talked to me in over twenty years. I still would have gone out there to resolve this in a civil manner but he made a decision to hurt my business. I will let you decide. Thanks

Description of Work: I phoned Hanson for a problem involving the door not closing all the way; popping back up every time. The tech showed up earlier than expected that same day, diagnosed the problem and fixed it, and did a complete check and lubrication of all moving parts. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient with his time. Excellent service all the way around.

Called Hanson for service and the technician arrived less than 4 hours later. The door was stopping about 90% of the way down and going back up. Since Hanson had performed a complete overhaul last year, I knew that they could solve the problem quickly. The technician arrived earlier than was promised; he did a thorough inspection and determined that there was a little slack in the drive chain for the opener. He fixed that problem, then did a thorough inspection and lubrication wherever needed. Within 30 minutes, the door was operating as good as new.
Description of Work: Inspected and lubricated all moving parts and tightened the drive chain.
