 + -1 moreI would not use Farmer Brown again following my experience... which had more to do with professional behavior and I believe upcharging for the work that was done. He was displeased that I wanted an estimate... I felt pressured.. and should have listened to my original feelings. I've since found a vendor that I feel very comfortable with and will be getting all future work from me. Knowing how to treat your customer is equally important as the actual work you do.
Description of Work: Another professional vendor I was using for another project had recommended Farmer Brown as I needed some pruning done and the removal of some wood chips from a prior tree project. The owner came out directly as promised, however, when I told him I wanted to get an estimate before deciding to proceed, as I had not spoken with any one else.... he bristled and said he "didn't give estimates... that if I didn't want to hire him... he'd leave". I was in a time crunch situation, and the other vendor thought highly of Mr. Brown so I went ahead. I thought the cost was high for what the work was... $250.00 to prune a 10 -12 ft. tree, (he cut 3 to 4 limbs with a chainsaw), and another $125.00 to remove a wood chip pile... but I did not have experience with pruning this tree before or what the cost should be. He did a good job, but I felt his demeanor was less than professional... at less that day. As well.. I've since had that same tree pruned and shaped up again, also by an "qualified arborist", and was told that this particular tree should not be pruned with a chainsaw at all, and he only charged me $100! and the work was more detailed and friendly. I will be staying with my new tree person and would not consider Farmer Brown again because of my prior experience.

 + -1 moreIt was a very weird situation. The young man that came out was very nice and everything. He was supposed to come up with a plan for me, but I never heard back from him. He said like he was in the National Guard or something. He was getting called up in a month, so I thought for some reason he was called up and that is why they just lost track of me. It turned out that I never got back to them to find out if he had passed it to somebody else or anything like that. I ended up going with somebody else. He had a month to do it. He came out. He was good at everything. He did show up when they said he would come out, but they never followed through on giving the plan back to me. They seemed knowledgeable. They seemed like they knew what they were doing. Initially, they were very responsive.

 + -1 moreFarmer Brown had done work for us before and we had a similar situation. We had asked to receive a quote on removal of trees from our yard. To be included in our quote, they were supposed to remove all debris and grind the stumps down below grade and remove the excess chips. Once the trees were removed, the stumps were left untouched. We had to request that they come out and grind down the stumps. We were then informed that we would have to pay extra for that and ultimately lost the argument since they had not written on their quote. After grinding down the stumps, most of the wood chips were left in the yard. We took care of collecting them and putting them in with our yard waste to get rid of them. They seem like very nice guys but they were very unprofessional to work with.
Description of Work: Several trees needed to be removed from our yard and stumps were ground down below grade level.
