I've never had a nightmare contractor until working with ECI. Poor communication, mediocre work, and lies. We used them for part of our whole house renovation, and if I could do it again I would use someone else.

ECI did a kitchen/laundry room remodel. 1)The first time Doug came I was given the impression he had his own men and did not contract work out. Not true. 2)We were able to sell our old cabinets, but Doug was unwilling to refund the cost he had included for disposing of them. 3)When the work started I received a call from another man who said he would be working with me. Doug had not told me I would be paying another middle man. 4)The work was done when we were on vacation. I was told the kitchen floor would be raised, but when we returned it was not. 5)A similar but different piece of granite had been installed than what I had chosen. I had chosen the old Caladonia and they installed the New Caladonia which is different. 6) When we came back we found the outside hose running full force. There was evidence that someone had washed a bucket or brush out yet the company denied leaving the hose on. Our water bill was $175 higher than usual.7) The backsplash tiles came the morning after we got back and were the wrong thing. The record at the store was also wrong. I went to the store and spent a long time trying to find my original tile sample without success, so I had to pick something else with which I have not liked as well. The employee at the store did not help me in the process. 7)I have asked Doug for an itemized list of expenses but never received one. 8)At the end Doug had me write a personal check to him. I wondered why his pay was not included in a check to the company where records would be kept and taxes paid like other companies we have dealt with. If I had it to do over, I would skip the middle men and deal directly with kitchen stores myself.

Project went well - we are very happy with the finished product. They are very creative from an idea perspective and have the ability to bring those ideas to completion. Would definitely use again.

The project was rather simple. My friend from out of the country had recently bought a house and was looking for some small remodels to it, as he worked on moving into the country pertinently. I had known Doug through work that I had done for him in the past.. So I knew generally about his skill and the kind of work that he does, through pictures, but obviously I was concerned about having someone come in and do work for me on a friend's house. Once he started he ran into a few snags including cabinetry not fitting as we thought it would, but after a bit of customization from Doug we got it work. The whole project was successful and was finished as per our timeline. We had no major problems with Doug and nothing that we could note. He not only did the work and was generous, but at the end of every business day he gave us an update on where the project was. I obviously felt no issue leaving him alone with the house for hours at a time.
