We hired Carolina Yard Barns to build a shed and add lean-tos. The process from start to finish could not have been better. This is a family-owned and operated business and they are the most organized and honest people you will ever deal with. They are impeccable builders and work with you to achieve your goals. I would hire them over and over again! Thanks so much for your awesome work!

This is a great operation and wonderful product! When we moved into our home 10 years ago we decided we needed a shed to store yard and garden stuff, bikes, etc. We shopped the big box stores and others. Then we came across Carolina Yard Barns. The quality and value of a stick-built shed built to our personal style was a perfect answer. We were surprised at how competitive the cost was compared to totally prefab options. We selected a 10 x 12 design with a window and entrance ramp. The construction was fast and flawless. The carpenter arrived with all the pieces pre-cut, and had our shed completed in a day and half! We chose to paint it ourselves to match our home exterior. It has been an attractive and functional part of our landscape ever since. The construction and materials have been durable and held up well over the years. Flash-forward 10- years: our shed is situated in a heavily wooded spot under the tree canopy. When the overhead trees caused damage to our shed roof, we needed a repair. I thought of calling a roofer, but instead contacted Rob at Carolina Yard Barns. He came out, assessed the damage, and scheduled the repair ASAP. They replaced almost half the roof at a truly great price. The workmanship was perfect, we did not even need to empty out the shed, and they left the interior spotless. For quality, style, value, and customer service, I can't recommend these guys enough!

It went very well. We went to their store and picked out the building we wanted. They gave us the approximate time frame that they would be able to schedule the project. Due to weather it needed to be moved, but that was not a problem. The men arrived on the scheduled date and built by shed. It took the three days that they had advised that it would take. They did a nice job, and cleaned up after themselves. We got exactly what we expected.

Well, good communication and arrived when they committed to. Easy to communicate with, it was quite expensive price wise, however the quality and construction methods were above average for a shed. Fits in well with your home.

Built an 8 x 10 shed on site great! Arrived as arranged, discussed the best placement on the site, explained the process, and started the work immediately. Weather was not good with frequent bouts of rain showers but the crew continued with the work. Very impressed with Carolina Yard Barns from the initial communication and scheduling of the job to the completion. Very nice to do business with, great customer service and product! I highly recommend this company!!

They were fantastic. Arrived when they said they would, did what they said the would and did it beautifully. Cleaned up after themselves. We love the shed. It settled a bit after a few months, so the door started sticking slightly and the ramp was a little wobbly. We called them and they came out the very same day and fixed it. Good as new. Great work and great service!

On the build date, I received a call at 7:45am from the builder. He informed me he was loading up and had a quick stop to make, but should be there shortly. He did not give me a specific time, but I assumed it would be around 9:30 based on info from office. He did not arrive until 11:00...not a big deal. My husband happened to be home at the time of the build and did not share any concerns with me about the construction or the builder. The builder worked from 11-3:00. The shed looks great. We have not noticed any problems. We have a very sloped yard, so we needed lots of cinder blocks to level the shed. I will update as time goes by if any problems arise.
Description of Work: I visited the site to look around and get more information about the sheds. I spoke with Mike and received several quotes on different sizes. I then emailed back a few days later to schedule. I corresponded with Tara, who was able to give me a build date the following week.

I can't recommend the company because they make promises they don't keep. They promised ramps that could be adjusted due to grade. The builder wasn't nearly as flexible as promised and didn't have any extra materials. I have the impression that Carolina Yard Barns did not pass on my specs. He got an attitude when I told him a 6-8" step at the bottom of a too steep ramp was unacceptable (if I wanted steps, I would have asked for them). I even offered to run out & buy the materials. He refused my offer. He did extend the ramp to the ground after a tense discussion. But, it is so steep, I cannot use it, at all. I have to tear it down & start all over. At MY expense. On the other hand, the builder helped with the decision of door placement and canted the other ramp without further tense discussions. I am somewhat dissappointed with the quality: the sheathing doesn't feel very sturdy or long-lasting, but that may be ignorance on my part. Additionally, the handles and locks have to be replaced and/or supplemented (a screwdriver will quickly remove the handles) and the doors are keyed differently! However, the painter that he recommended was dynamite and the shed looks great. UPDATE (4/14/2014): Terrible working conditions. Cold. It snowed. Mud that oozed over the installer's shoes. I warned my contact at the office. When I told her that I had a steep grade & required ramp length & angle flexibility, my salesperson assured me it could and would be done. At an extra, to-be-determined price. When I brought to the installer's attention that a 6" (or more) drop at the end of ramp 1 was unacceptable, he became angry and defensive. After an argument, and refusing my offer to run out and purchase the needed materials, he patched together an extension so that the ramp at least reached the ground. I protested the steep angle. Per the installer, he was never informed of my requirements and he had X materials and limited time to complete the job in order to turn a reasonable profit. He stated he wasn't sure he had enough materials to complete ramp 2. I told him I didn't care how it looked, just do it. My mistake. It looks awful. Apparently, he didn't want to carry the materials to the site (every contactor I've had has not had that problem), so he asked if he could back his trailer into the side yard. I agreed. Another mistake. There are very deep tire tracks due to the muddy conditions, one of which is on my neighbor's property. He never offered to fix them, so I am stuck with the job. He installed 2 cheaply made handles on the doors which are keyed differently. I have to replace them because, in addition to the inconvenience of 2 separate keys, the handles can be easily removed with a screwdriver. I had to have ramp 1 removed completely and rebuilt so I could use the door opening in the manner that I told the salesperson. I am still working on an acceptable solution to the door handles and tire tracks. To give credit where it is due, the installer helped me with door placement, canted ramp 2 without further argument, and recommended an excellent painter that I would use again and recommend to others.

Wow! We are very surprised by this review. Our office was never made aware of any concerns by this customer and she paid for the job in full upon completion. If she had notified us we would have sent somebody out immediately to see if we could help her with the ramp situation. We always get nothing but positive responses about this builder and we are very shocked that she was unhappy with him. Especially since she hired the gentleman he recommended to paint her building. It is true that the builders do not come out with any extra materials but if a ramp is too steep it is normally addressed at that point and extra material is sent out at that time. I am not sure what promises we did not keep because we built the shed to the specifications outlined by the customer and built it in the same manner as all of our displays are built. This customer did come out and look at our displays and this building was built with the exact same materials. The sheathing she feels is too thin is exactly what is on our displays and on the displays of almost every other shed company in the area. LP Smart Side panel siding has a 50 year manufacturer’s warranty. As for the door handles, the door handles installed on this customer’s shed are exactly what are on our displays that she was shown at our display lot and I always make a point of showing customers how nice the handles are being that they are a keyed locking system. We purchase all of our door handles keyed differently for security. We don’t want you and your neighbor having the same locking handle. We will be contacting this customer to see if we can help her with her ramp situation and just wish she had contacted us directly about her concerns. Customer service and satisfaction are very important to us but unfortunately we can’t make a customer happy if we aren’t contacted about their concerns. (Update 4/17/14) Immediately after reading the initial review I called and left a message for the customer and never got a response from her. Her original review was not a review we liked to see because we want all of our customers to be happy and say glowing things about us which if you look at the other reviews we have it will prove that our customers are normally very happy with the quality of work we do. This customer’s original review gave us a B for overall rating with the issues that she mentioned. We were quite shocked to get an email from Angie’s List that our company had a dispute opened against us and even more shocked that this customers original review went from a B to an F. I would also like to point out that 2 days after this building was complete Durham county came out and inspected the building and issued it a Certificate of Occupancy, meaning it passed a building inspection with no problems, including the ramp that she claimed was too steep. Ramps that are too steep will not pass a building inspection. We were also shocked to see that she added to her complaint list from her original post such as tire tracks left in the yard. Something like this can happen on rare occasions when the conditions are very muddy and it is our policy that we rake and seed the areas if it happens. Again this is something we are hearing about 2 months after that job, that is something that we should have been made aware of immediately so we could come out and fix it. We called the customer again after reading the update she posted and were able to get her on the phone. After listening to her complaints we asked her what we could do to make her happy and to resolve this. She stated that she had already had the ramp removed and rebuilt (even though the initial ramp passed NC building inspection) and requested a dollar amount for the ramp and for dirt to fix the ground. We agreed to reimburse her for these items and sent her a check in the amount she requested even though we feel that we did everything properly but in the interest of customer satisfaction we agreed to send her this amount. This check was mailed to her by certified mail yesterday and we feel this matter is closed and we just wish we had been given the opportunity to rectify any perceived problems when they occurred. We always try to go above and beyond for our customers.

They were very easy to work with picking out the shed when I came to the showroom and did not try to upsell me on anything. They were in constant contact regarding the schedule of build due to the recent winter weather. The day they built they were very nice and professional with my wife and completed the build in 1 day with what appears so far to be very good quality. I would absolutely recommend this company.

I chose Carolina Yard Barns after a previous builder cancelled the day before the build. CYB has a great selection and will customize anything. Their prices are not the cheapest but the quality is top notch. The build was delayed 1 day due to rain but they came out the next day with no problem. He called when he was about to leave the shop just to go over the selection and make sure he had the right materials. He showed up (1 guy) and built the whole thing by himself. Unbelievable! He worked like no one I've seen and it came out perfect. They didn't charge me anything until he was done. I think I got the best building for any money and would definitely use them again.

We went out to the company to look at shed examples that they have on their lot. They were really nice about giving us advice regarding size and features. Once we agreed on the features and cost they madeAn appointment for the shed to be built a couple weeks later. The shed was built in three days. The contractors (two men) that the company sent were quick and courteous. I was surprised to see the building go up so quickly since it was built from scratch on site. They showed up with all the material on a trailer and were skilled at putting it up quickly. It is nice looking and we are pleased with the result.

This company also does fence work. I met Rob at the Southern Home show and explained what I needed done. I had all the measurements with me. He explained that if all the information I had matched exactly what need to be done he could give me a price. The price sounded good and I asked him how soon he could do the work. He replied the following Saturday would work for him. I explained that I might have some business to take care of and might not be home, he said that would not be a problem. He said he would stop by during to week to check the exact placement, which he did. Rob and his helper Scott showed up on time Saturday morning and started work right away. I had to run some errands and left the house. I got back several hours later, Rob and Scott were gone. There was no trace of what had happened except I had a beautiful fence in my backyard. NO mess, NO scraps, NO damage to lawn or bushes. It was as if magic was performed. Rob was terrific to work with, extremely pleasant, and did a great job!!!! I will call him again!!!

Carolina Yard barns were helpful throughout the process from the initial quoting (their website has price information on it without the need to contact them, unlike most other companies I have seen and that is something I appreciate) through to the finished building. They answer all questions, provided details of the materials used. The quality of construction is readily apparent and I am very pleased with the finished product.

The installer Kieth arrived at the agreed upon date and time with the materials needed to start the job. The whole job took 2+ days and I was kept informed regarding what would take place each day. Kieth was easy to work with and made every effort to deliver the product I was expecting. I am 100% satisfied with product delivery and quality. I would not hesitate to recommend Carolina Yard Barn. I chose a shed from there Heritage line, not only did it meet the HOA standards, but the quality was well above what was being sold by the big box stores and the other shed providers I researched.

The barn was constructed on schedule with no complications. I am very satisfied with the results. They make sheds of all sizes and have a bunch of different models on their website. They erected the space in 2 days time. The quality of the product versus some of the competitors. We ended up financing with 6 months same as cash sort of thing, 0% provided that we paid it off in 6 months and they provided all of that to us. They facilitated all of that for us, it was seamless. We went out, looked at their sheds, signed up. They sent a guy, it was done in like 2 days time and its really great quality storage shed that I anticipate will last for decades.

After a bit of online research, I visited Carolina Yard Barns (CYB) to see the display models. I wanted a large shed that could be used as a workshop. Mike, one of the owners, was very friendly, showed us around and answered all of our questions. We left with a building on order, engineering plans for the permit application and had our installation scheduled for less than 2 weeks later. CYB uses sub-contractors to construct the buildings. The crew assigned to my build were a father and son team, J & J Enterprises. Day 1 consisted of building the runners and floor joists on a leveled cement blocks. They were finished in a few hours. Construction continued 3 days later to allow for the inspection and due to inclement weather in the forecast. They were called around 9am to state they were running late due to a power outage in their neighborhood and would be there soon. They arrived about 2 hours later and began to plywood the floor. To help them regain some lost time, I spent about 45 minutes carrying the lumber needed for the framing and the siding from their trailer closer to the shed location. The day ended around 4:15pm with all four walls framed, sided and the rafters installed. They forgot the Z bars and only sided half of the gable walls. With the engineering plans in hand, I asked the contractor about the missing collar ties and the added ceiling joists that were not mentioned in the plans or in their demo shed. The side walls are only 7' and joists in the center area removed the extra clearance. The contractor stated the joists were stronger and they would add the collar ties if it didn't pass inspection. I was a bit annoyed by them not following the engineering plans. A quick call to CYB was made asking about the ceiling joists in the center and they stated they were not structurally needed with the lofts and could be removed after the inspections. I added lofts at each end of the shed and had an updated invoice emailed to me within 5 minutes. He also called the contractor to let him know about the additional work. The contractor stated he'd pick up the additional materials and should be back on site around 8:30am the following morning. The contractors arrived the following morning around 10am, in what should have been the final day. They installed the lofts, installed the workbench, finished siding the gable walls, plywooded the roof and installed half of the felt paper on the roof. They didn't bring enough felt paper for the job and the day ended with all the work completed, except the roof which needed more felt and shingles. The contractor stated he would return tomorrow morning to finish because snow was on the forecast for the following evening. He called around 9am stating he would arrive around 11 because he wanted it to warm up a bit first. Mike called asking how the build went and was a bit surprised that they did not finish the previous day. The contractor was shingling through the flurries and finished a few minutes before it really started to snow. The framing inspection failed the following Monday because of the missing collar ties and the gussets did not match the plans. CYB sent out a different person the following day to correct the issues. Luckily for the new guy, the gussets were not glued (as required by the plans) so he had a much easier time removing the wrong sized ones. After these major quality issues, I checked over everything with a more critical eye and have noticed other minor issues. Not structural issues like the collar ties and gussets, just sloppy construction that are going to annoy me for a long time. I wish I had the time necessary to build the shed myself because I would have done a much better job. I also believe that my experience probably would have been different had they sent different contractors.

First of all I'd like to thank the Member for his business and also for his feedback. I'll attempt to summarize the Member's issues and address each one individually. The first issue is in my opinion a lack of communication on our part. John gave the customer his best guess on arrival times. When he saw he was going to be later than that he should have called. As owner of CYB, this is 100% my fault. Communication with a customer is a high priority for us and we failed in this case. Also, we didn't build the shed to plan. Once again totally my fault. There's no excuse for leaving out collar ties that were indicated on the plans. We used the wrong size gussetts and also left the glue off the gussetts. This was just a brain lapse. Different sheds call for different specifications. We messed up; no excuse. The Member detailed at great length the items needed that were forgotten. All that is true; but I hardly feel this is an issue. While it's true this shows a little bit of disorganization; in my opinion there was no harm done to the Member due to this. It's possible that the job could have been completed on Friday rather than on Saturday, but not for certain. They would have had to continue working later on the day they did the most of the framing. While it's true they left at 4:15, please understand they started working on this job well before the customer sees them. They have to load all the material (ideally checking that they haven't forgotten anything) and drive to the customer's site. This can often take 2 or more hours. If we've been on your site for six hours we've typically worked 8 or more hours already. We failed the inspection for the items already noted: no collar ties, wrong size gussetts and gussetts not glued. The Member called these "major quality issues" I disagree. They aren't major quality issues, they are items that required correction. I came out the very next morning and made all the corrections and was happy to do so. The Member states that he then checked over everything critically and found "sloppy construction" that he is unhappy with. Of course, the Member owes me nothing, but I asked him to tell me what these issues were so that I could address them. He mentioned one item, and I showed him why it was correct the way we did it. I then asked what the other issues were and he wouldn't name anything else and told me that he was angry over the previously discussed issues and that there was no way we could make him happy now. In my opinion the final result is a high quality job. There were bumps along the way (my fault) that upset the Member, so I can't consider this a successful outcome. Still, I firmly stand behind the work we did for the Member. If he called me today I would happily meet with him and see what it would take to make him happy. In summary, for people considering using us, we aren't perfect. We, like everybody, will make mistakes from time to time. However; we will always admit to our mistakes and do what it takes to make it right.

The project went beautifully. Our barn was stick-built (key pieces were pre-cut) and the guy who built our shed had it up and fully enclosed in one day, then finished up the next morning -- despite the rain. We couldn't believe one person could do this, but it went completely without a hitch.
Description of Work: We purchased the "Tack Room" model barn. Love it.
