It went very well. Kelly in the office was very efficient and quickly scheduled Martha to come out and show me a variety of tiles options. Martha had quite a heavy load of tiles to bring into the house! I chose the tile I wanted and then waited to hear when they would be able to come which didn't take very long at all.. The installers were supposed to come between 8-10 on Friday, 8/29, and I took the day off of work to be there. I received a message from Kelly the day before reminding me that the installers would be coming the next day between 12:00 and 2:00. I called her right back when I go the message to remind her that it was supposed to be between 8 and 10:00 and I had to take my two kittens to Chapel Hill (I live in Durham) to stay with the foster mom until the grout was dry. Kelly quickly called Oscar, the lead installer and called me right back to say Oscar would arrive at 8:00. Excellent rebound! Oscar, Pepe, and Gabriel came on time and went to work quickly and expertly. I left to take the kittens to Chapel Hill and when I came back two hours later, they had laid the tile and were just starting to do the grout. Not long after, they were done and I just loved what they did. They carried out several large plastic bags full of scraps and left my bathrooms, hallway, and living room spotless. Oscar told me how long I should stay off the tiles or at least not to step on the grout and that I could bring my kittens home the next afternoon, sooner than I had expected which was good news to me. The next morning I moved most of my things back into the bathrooms and the kitties are now back and romping all over the place. Well done everyone! I asked Oscar how long he had been doing this and told me about his history with the company and how much he loved the work that he was doing. Very impressive and competent young man!

Much of my carpet was ruined due to a water heater break. I called Carolina In Home Flooring and after letting them know what i was looking for ( a cat friendly carpet) and Martha came out with the samples. With her help and the cat's imput, we selected the carpet for the house. The installers showed up on time, moved my furniture and proceeded to remove all of my carpet and padding. They removed also any damaged tack strips. They then proceeded room by room to lay the new padding and carpet. the installers were very professional and knew exactly what they were doing. They did a great job putting down the carpet. I love the new carpet and the way the house looked after it was done. Thank you Martha and Carolina In Home Flooring for all you assistance!

I love this company. They were professional and curtious from start to finish. When I called for an estimate I spoke with Kelly who was so friendly and she scheduled me an appointment for the next day. Drew the sales consultant came out to give us an estimate. He was so nice and we felt very comfortable with him. He answered every question we had and took his time making sure we were getting the best product for our budget. We decided to go ahead and boom the service. When I called I again spoke with Kelly who knew who I was. Which is a great feature to us. I'm all about great customer service. She was able to get us started ahead of schedule. They sent out 2 workers who were on time very professional and friendly also. Fadel was the head contractor he made sure we were in the loop every step of the way. And he also answered any questions we had. They worked so hard from the moment they arrived to the moment they left. They finished on schedule cleaned up everything. The day after they left we noticed the transition pieces were missing to the kitchen. Which was covered by the plastic we put up to protect our kitchen. So that wasn't there fault. I called and again was greeted by an always friendly Kelly who immediately put us in contact with Fadel. He came out the next day and happily cut the transition pieces which took maybe 5 minutes. After they left the boss who I think his name was mike called to see how everything went. I made sure to tell him how happy we were. All around from start to finish was amazing with this company. If you are stuck between using this company and another please use this company you won't regret it!!!!!!

Carolina In Home Flooring did an outstanding job. The initial visit was very professional and a variety of options where shown to my wife and I. We got an estimate done that same day. We were in a situation where we had just moved back to our home with no furniture delivered yet. Carolina In Home Flooring was able to work with us and get the installation done before our household goods were delivered, which made this a much better situation. The installers were on time, hard working and very efficient and professional. The job was not hurried and I was present for the whole installation. They took their time around transition areas between the living room and dining, kitchen and addition rooms. All extra material was left with me (almost 35 square feet of hardwood planks) along with floor molding. The installers also left extra floor putty if and when I try my own installation upstairs in the future. They also installed wooden floor vents and matched the stain to the wood very nicely.

Dear Customer, it was certainly my pleasure to assist you with your flooring project, and getting your Family Room ready with newly installed hardwood prior to getting your furniture moved in. We truly appreciate you sharing your experience with other Angie's List members, and please be sure to contact us with any questions or concerns that you may have in the future. Before any other comments, I have to praise this company for their impeccable service. Once contacted, they sent a very nice gentleman over for measurements and pricing quote. He presented in great detail the options available to us and how things will develop once we agreed with the plan. I have to point out that I felt they were a bit overpriced (I had other quotes done for the same job); however I got what I paid for, and that in a good way. Both teams were efficient, on time, polite, clean and truly professional. The carpet was set in an afternoon; while the floors took a day and a half. Both teams worked very quiet and clean. My dogs had accidentally scratched the wood floor after it was done and they fixed it without hesitation. The whole crew was a pleasure to work with and I will not hesitate to recommend them and/or use them again should I need to.

Spoke with scheduler soon after purchase & arranged for inspection & estimate to be done on July 8th. Explained that what I needed was a repair on kitchen floor about a square foot or less in diameter. Was contacted on July 3rd by owner explaining the offer was not for a repair but rather purchase & installation of new flooring because it would be difficult to match the existing flooring by looking at it. Owner suggested I might contact my builder and find out the name, brand, etc of flooring and builder might be able to match it.

Not well.,,heading to small claims court.
Description of Work: Drew came out and presented the product and cost. His presentation won this company the business. Oscar the sub-contractor and his friends appeared at the house to start several hrs late causing it to take another day to complete. About 6 weeks later the floor buckled. The contractor came out and said they would fix it. The owner Mike comes out a week later refusing to fix the problem or honor the warranty.

Dear Customer, To address your first concern about the delay in starting your job. We send all of our customers email information about their up coming flooring project. It does state in there, that no two construction jobs are the same and the start and end time is an estimation, due to the unpredictability of construction. The product that you choose for your floor is a well known, very good product. The installation of your product was done by an experienced crew with more than 15 years of experience. As I explained to you, I think the reason that your product is failing is directly due to the water over flow from your kitchen sink that you told me about. I also told you that we would send an independent inspector to your home to ensure that is not the product failing. I have completed the claim form and submitted it to Shaw. They will contact you with a day to come out to inspect your floor. We will wait to hear the results of the inspection and if the results are due to product failure or improper installation we will repair the floor. Thank you, Mike Nelson, Owner

Estimating and scheduling went fine, and the price seemed quite reasonable (in line with other estimates). The same crew did all the work (hardwood, vinyl tile, stairs). The first glitch was that the wrong size of vinyl tile was ordered (16" instead of the 12" I had specified), delaying that part of the job by two weeks (and thus delaying other work as well). The hardwood floor installation was OK (though there was a concentration of short boards in one area and a lot of boards with minor damage, such as splinters on the edges or dinged corners). The vinyl tile installation was more problematic. This luxury vinyl tile is meant to look like natural stone and comes in a lot of different patterns, making it easy to avoid pattern repeats (that's one of Armstrong's selling points). However, after the tile was installed, there were very obvious pattern repeats, including the use of only two patterns in one nine-foot-square area (six tiles of one pattern and three of another, mostly oriented in the same direction). It appeared to me that the crew had paid no attention to the patterns, but simply used the tiles in the order in which they came out of each box. Since there was a full box of tile left over, I asked the crew to replace tiles to reduce the worst of the pattern repeats. I kept the number of tiles to be replaced to an absolute minimum, ignoring areas that would be hidden under appliances or furniture, and kept them as contiguous as possible, to make the replacement easier. I also selected the replacement tiles myself and placed them in the correct orientation on top of each tile to be replaced. The crew cheerfully replaced the tiles (a total of 15 between the kitchen and bathroom). However, the owner later asserted that the crew had installed the tiles correctly in the first place, and blamed me for the extra time the crew had to spend replacing them. He actually told me that the tiles were "randomized" by Armstrong and were meant to be used in the order they came out of the boxes! (Armstrong confirms that the proper procedure is to open several boxes and sort the tiles by pattern before creating a balanced design that avoids pattern repeats.) Also, the tiles were laid starting at the edge of each room, not the center, resulting in some very narrow strips at the opposite edges. The biggest problems involved replacement of the stair treads. First, the crew (not knowing that 5/4" finished wood is 1" thick) thought the treads were too thin; they called the estimator, who came out and agreed. He consulted the owner by phone, who said that the treads were the correct thickness, but also proposed to add braces for extra support. When the estimator and crew could not explain to me exactly what would be done, I asked to speak with the owner. Since it was difficult to explain over the phone, he came out and described what would be done with the treads and the landing. I noted that since the oak treads were 1/2" thinner than the original treads, the bottom and top steps would be off from the rest of the steps by 1/2". The owner said I would never notice the difference, but I disagreed and asked that they install 1/2" shims on the stringers. (I have since learned that variances as small as 1/4" can result in tripping, and that any variance over 3/8" is generally considered a hazard.) I also noted that the crew had pried the bottom tread part way out and in the process had damaged the skirt board, and I asked whether they could avoid damaging the skirt boards, since these were not being replaced. In the event, there was extensive damage to the skirt boards. Also, the owner and I had agreed that no bullnose would be added to the back of the landing (under the stairs), but (in my absence) a bullnose was added that also wrapped around the side of the stairs and looked ridiculous (as well as creating an obstacle for placement of my stereo system). When I reminded the owner that we had agreed on no bullnose on the back of the landing, he said that he had come by the house while the crew was working and had decided to add the bullnose because he "thought it looked better"! (I ended up paying a carpenter to remove the bullnose and come up with a much better trim solution.) When I noted the damage to the skirt boards and my displeasure with the bullnose, the owner responded by complaining about how much work they had had to do to satisfy my requests (such as adding the shims, which they should have known would be necessary, and the braces, which weren't even my idea). I only found out when the crew was almost done with the stairs that they had NEVER before replaced the treads on an open-tread staircase! The estimator had assured me that Carolina In Home Flooring could do this work, but the owner told me, "We'll say we can do anything"! in retrospect, I should have hired a carpenter to do all the work on the stairs. The original estimate included ripping up a layer of particle board in the living room and replacing it with plywood, since the esimator had thought that there were two layers of fiberboard, rather than fiberboard over plywood. Since the bottom layer actually was plywood, it was not necessary to install the plywood after the fiberboard was ripped out. I had thought that would mean a small price reduction, but since the owner had made it very clear that he thought I had created extra work for them, I didn't even bother to ask (and the owner certainly didn't offer). Other minor complaints have to do with the crew's lack of attention to detail (compared with other work crews I have had in my house). It's not any one thing, but lots of small things that added up. Some examples: I was not going to be home when the crew left after installing the hardwood flooring, so I made a very big point of saying that the furniture should be left in the middle of the room (since the walls were to be painted). When I got home, I found that they had returned the furniture to where they thought it ought to go ? including placing a two-piece hutch so that it blocked access to the thermostat, with the glass-fronted top perched precariously on top of one of the two dowels that were supposed to hold it in place. (Since I could not move the hutch myself, the crew was sent out the next morning to move it.) After the vinyl tile was installed, I kept finding bits of grout, glue, or other gunk stuck to various surfaces for the next week or so (such as the hardwood floor, the bathtub, and a light switchplate). In the kitchen, the wrong shoe molding was installed in a couple of places. Also, the crew decided to set up a saw on the porch, rather than in the driveway, and took down my porch swing to make room (without consulting me). This wouldn't have been a problem, except that they forgot to put the swing up when they were finished, and I had to call them back as they were about to drive away ? and then they couldn't figure out how to put the swing back the way it had been. I think what bothered me the most about this whole experience was less the problems than the owner's attitude. I did not even call to complain; I only mentioned the problems in response to a follow-up call to see how things went, and I was made to feel picky and unreasonable for simply wanting the work done right.
Description of Work: Replaced wall-to-wall carpet in living room with 3/4" prefinished hardwood (no bevels); replaced carpeting on stair landing with hardwood; replaced carpeted pine stair treads in an open-tread staircase with oak treads finished to match flooring; replaced sheet vinyl in kitchen-dining area and bathroom with Armstrong Alterna grouted vinyl tile; replaced shoe molding as necessary.

Great experience!! We had suffered water damage and Drew Propes worked with out insurance carrier to conclude that, due to the age of the floors, it would be impossible to simply replace the damaged boards and have them match the existing floor. He further made the case that re-finishing a pre-finished floor was not the way to go. We certainly did not have the expertise to deal with our insurance carrier and reach the same result. Drew was then very helpful in our selection of new floors. He educated us about the different quality of wood used in flooring that went way beyond the color, which would have been all we knew to do otherwise. The installer, Oscar, and his partner made short work of the removal of the old floor and installation of the new one. They were prompt, professional and polite. Oscar went to great pains to let us know the floor cleaner they recommended and while we were talking saw our furniture sliders and told us that what we had might scratch the new floor and what we should use instead. These folks will be the first we call when it comes time to do any other work of this sort.

Excellent job! We were able to make an appointment quickly and around our busy schedule. Drew came to the house and showed us multiple options in our price range and even gave us some helpful hints for cleaning the carpet and our other previously install laminate flooring. The carpet was readily in stock and we were able to have it installed very soon after our first meeting. Our one frustration was that we scheduled an afternoon installation and the installer called multiple times to come in the morning. My husband left work to meet him and then he did not show up until the almost the regularly scheduled time. No worries though, the installation process went very quickly and they removed and took away the old carpet. Overall it was a great experience and a good value.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced existing carpeting on our stairs and in our hallway and bedroom.
