This place of business has been in Raleigh NC for many years; ever since I can remember and I am 63. This place has had a excellent reputation in the past. Our house is 50 years old so we are constantly replacing or updating or repairing something! Back in 2007 I replaced all of my doors and bought them all at Capitol City Lumber. The gentleman who helped me was excellent. He even got me a great price on my doors because the manufacturer had put them on display and put the wrong (cheaper) price on them! Well, last year we needed another door, so I called Capitol City Lumber, thinking they might have the original order for all my other doors still in their files and that would simplify my ordering. I wanted the same manufacturer and the same style. I made about four calls and all I could get was: " we can't find the order, I'll call you back", which they never did. I after almost a month of this tag phone, I went in to place the order. After about an hour in the store and much back and forth we finally got the order place and I was told I'd get a call as soon as it came in. A month went by, no call. I called, they said it was not in everything was on back order, but they would call me when it arrived. Waited about two months- called them- they said the door was there and they had called me and left message. I don't know who they called but it was not me. By this time, due to the work we were having done, I had no room to store the door. I asked if they could keep it two more weeks and they said sure, no problem. When I went in to pick up the door they looked and looked and finally told me the door had been stolen! The woman who owns and runs the place told me it was my fault for leaving it, literally! She told me it "happened all the time" but still insisted it was my fault for leaving the door there even though I explained to her who I spoke with in the warehouse, and anyway the fact was, no one called me to let me know the door was there to be picked up. She finally ordered me another door. When I got that door, after three or more months mind you, I brought it home, scheduled someone to install it, and lo and behold it was the wrong size! The carton the door shipped in had the right size on the label but when the carpenter took it out it was about a half inch off from the ordered size. He said he could try to jerryrig it but it still would not look right. He also noticed that the label said the door was shipped to Capitol City Lumber in 2006! Of course, that proved to me they had not ordered me a new door they just grabbed some door they had on hand. My husband took the door back for a refund and the same woman gave him a hard time. She told him she would never sell 'that woman' another door-as if all their bumbling was my fault! Believe it or not there is more to the story-but I have run out of space! You get the gist. Don't waste your time like I did.
Description of Work: An attempt to order one replacement door for my home. The whole process took almost a year and I still ended up with the wrong size door! When we gave up and asked for our money back, our money, which they had had for almost a year, was not refunded cheerfully, nor with any apologies for the many mistakes made by the company.
