Chris found the cause of the problem in about 5 minutes and it did take him another 10 minutes to fix it.He was very knowledgeable, he explained me different ways that the problem can be fixed and had me to decide on how he will proceed.I would definitely hire them again.

Didn't correctly ID problem. Didn't fix problem. Overcharged me from what said cost would be. Said hourly rate on weekend was $150 and was here for 1.25 hours = $187.50. Charged me $239.xx plus parts. I will be disputing bill with the office and letting them know what a bad experience it was.
Description of Work: Brian W. came out within an hour during cold weather when everyone was experiencing burst pipes. Checked crawl space, garage and inside the house. Told me I had lowest grade copper pipes that were no longer legal to use. Found water dripping down one pipe - line to hot water heater. Cut hole in drywall and replaced a portion of the copper pipe with PVC. Told me I had no standing water, had mold and mildew on subfloor with wet insulation. Said the water heater was ready to go at anytime (which it was and did - it was the true cause of the problem). Also said the toilet in the 1/2 bath abutting the garage wall (where water heater was) needed to be replaced and that he had to cut through the bathroom wall to repair. Next day, had even more standing water in house. Called in a claim to insurance provider who suggested I call ServPro restoration company. They came out and said the leak had to be fixed before they could do remediation work. Suggested I call Poole's Plumbing. Poole's checked the same areas and said there were 2 pools of standing water, no mold/mildew on subfloor and correctly identified the cause of the leak as the water heater. I felt Brian lied to me to raise the price of the job and will never recommend or use Bolton's again.

Response from Bolton Construction and Service, LLC
[removed member name] We are responding to your review of our emergency plumbing service call at your home. We reviewed the service call documentation and we just completed an interview with our service tech and service manager. We discussed in detail the work diagnosis, repair, and recommendations that Bolton provided and your concerns. Our first priority is to educate the customer on our findings and make logical recommendations and then proceed on the authorized work. We do appreciate your recognition of our prompt response to your call. Our Technician, Brian, received the call at 9:15 on Saturday Morning. Brian explained our overtime service rates and we were provided address and contact information. We arrived on site at 9:45. Brian entered the crawl area where he discovered a water leak from an insulated ¾” copper line rising up into the house. He traced this pipe to the next level where we cut the drywall to review the condition of the pipe. The area above the sub-floor showed no evidence of water so our logical finding was that the pipe was leaking below the sub-floor. We cut out this short section of pipe and replaced it. The pipe turned out to be type M which is a very thin-wall copper. It was so thin that during our work to cut it out, sections of the pipe collapsed. We provided this section of leaking pipe to you at the completion of the repair as evidence of it’s condition. Due to the amount of moisture below the finished floor, we recommend you to consider calling a water damage specialist. We then proceeded to review other potential problem areas. We discussed replacement of the thin wall type M copper piping to your toilet (not the fixture) and the integrity of your existing water heater and domestic water piping system. This 20 minute discussion took place after the service call had been charged out and was not included in our invoice. During our survey of the water heater, we brought to your attention evidence of an older leak and discussed the age of your heater and we recommended that it be replaced very soon. We did not see clear evidence of an existing leak at that time. Brian mentioned that we could provide a price for the heater but we understood that you were not interested in replacing the water heater at that time and you did not wish for us to continue any additional work at overtime rates. In addition, we informed you to keep an eye on the water heater in case a leak occurs. Please note that our technicians do not work on a commission sales basis; therefore, our technicians have no financial incentive for encouraging non-essential repairs. On the Monday following our Saturday visit our plumbing coordinator called as a courtesy to check and see if we could be of any additional assistance. You stated you were not in need of any assistance at that time and would call back if those conditions changed. We understand that you did take our advice and called a water damage company to repair or dry the floor damage and they in turn called in another plumber who says they discovered a leak on your heater that we had previously recommended to be replaced. During our phone conversation this morning, you stated that you did not dispute our labor charge, in fact you mentioned that our hourly overtime service rate was less than the technician originally quoted. In addition you were very happy with the prompt service; however, you were disappointed that we did not find the leak at the water heater during our service call. We regret that the leak did not show itself during our visit and we have offered a full refund or a credit for what you feel should be the appropriate charges for our repair. Please note that we highly recommend replacement of all the thin wall type M copper piping as evidenced by the leak and lack of structural integrity of the pipe sample we removed. Please call or contact us immediately to let us know how you would like to proceed. Sincerely, Will Bolton Bolton Construction and Service, LLC Owner

My Lenox heat pump lost the ability to recruit electric heat strips when the heat pump itself could not keep up due to the outside temperature. After several small part replacements each of which worked for a day or two, but then failed, the tech recommended replacing the entire heat strip module (which was still under warranty). Once this was done, the system works fine. |The process took almost 5 weeks to play out, due in no small measure to the fact that the Lenox part warehouse is now in Harrisburg, PA, not Raleigh, and Lenox doesn't do express shipment. If you live in Raleigh, do not install a Lenox heat pump! | |After a couple of weeks, the tech gave me his own cell number and was very responsive to my recurring problems which I really appreciated. |

[removed member name] Thank you for your positive feedback. We appreciate your understanding of the challenges we have procuring certain supplier's parts. We make every effort to communicate the status of part orders with our customers. Most of our vendors are very responsive, but with the slow economy, it seems that more of them have slim inventories and some of the parts are "made to order". I am glad we kept good lines of communication open and make the necessary repairs. Thank you for being a great customer. Sincerely, William E. Bolton IV Owner

We're very pleased with them. They always call to let us set up a time that will be convenient. I have never had any trouble with them. We've had a good experience with them. There was tiny glitch when they change computer systems. Not all of the information got transferred from one system to the other. For a while, they didn't have us down as customers. They realized the mistake and it's not a problem now. That's the only that's ever happened. My first impression of them was that they're really good if they're running late or can come earlier, they always give you a call before they're coming to let you know and make sure it's okay. They really keep you in the loop as far where they're at and what's going on. They showed me how to change the filters upstairs. They also gave me some advice on what filters to use. One time last year, we had routine maintenance scheduled and they called to ask me if they could reschedule because a lot of people's heat had gone out. They were nice enough to call and ask not just for me but for the people that were out of heat. Our heat was working so we rescheduled. They're good about talking to their customers and rearranging things. I was really thrilled with them because I know if my heat goes out they'll get on it. They're usually always within their four hour timeframe. If not, they do keep you in the loop. A couple of times, they've actually called to see if they could come early because they finished the last job early. They try to do their best for all of their customers. I've never had any trouble with the people that come out. They're very respectful of the house. They always either take their shoes or cover their shoes with something. They're definitely somebody we're going to stay with.
Description of Work: We've used Bolton Construction and Service for at least seven years. We have a yearly contract with them. They come out every other month to change a filter in our heater unit, which is under the house. We pay a yearly fee.

I didn't use their service, and am glad I didn't. Their price quote was ridiculous! Just to come out they were going to charge me $95 for starters, plus $95 for every hour on the job, plus extra for any parts used! I didn't have hot water, and knew the problem wasn't major. I had an idea what it was, but wasn't certain. If I had of used their services I would of ended up paying over $200 - probably more. Turns out the problem was a simple part that needed replacing that only cost $9 - $20 at home depot! Labor itself should be no more than $50 per hour. If they were fair, the total price should have been around $100 max!

Ms. [remove member name], Our team may not have explained our charges very well. The $95 charge includes our trip time to your home, diagnostics, and 30 minutes of repair time. If it was a simple repair, our work would have been completed within the first 30 minutes and would have cost $95 plus parts. Although our fuel and operation costs have increased, we have not raised our rates in over 2 years. We are very concerned with being competitive and offering skilled tradesmen to perform the work. Our Plumbing technicians have degrees from Wake Tech and years of experience. We support our field team with experienced Dispatchers, Warehouse Support, Project Managers, and Accounting Staff. In addition we invest in the latest software systems, specialty tools, fleet vehicles, and benefit plans to attract the best employees. We are also a local company so your hard earned dollars are reinvested in the Triangle Area including contributions to local churches, charities, and schools. I would hope that you consider this information and feel free to compare our rates to our competition that provide a similar culture and benefits. Sincerely, William E. Bolton IV Owner

We were having problems with one of our heating units. Ennis was to come out between 3 and 5 on Friday afternoon. At 4:30 my wife called to check status since we had not heard from anyone and it was Friday afternoon. We were told that Ennis had an emergency and would not complete his calls so my wife asked about the status of our scheduled call. We were told someone would call shortly. Ennis called and said that he had left us a message and asked about the symptoms. When my wife described the symptoms he told her that could not be correct because he had replaced that part 2 months previously (my wife had not told him what part was failing - she had simply described the problem. I am not sure how he could tell what was wrong because he was not at our house and did not have remote access to the uni0t. Also we did not have any messages from him on our phone and caller id did not list an unknown number so I wonder about who he called Finally another person came out to work on the unit. He did a great job and said that he had to order a part would install it Monday morning which he did and it fixed the problem. At that time I asked about a service contract and he contacted his office and gave me a quote and said that the office would send more information via email. It is now 2 weeks later and I still have not received anything via email However I did contact one of the highest rated HVAC companies yesterday and I now have a service contract with them and they have already inspected my units. That is what I want from a service provider - someone that does what they say they will do and when they say they will do it

Member, I am glad we were able to diagnose and make the necessary repairs to your unit. I do apologize for our lack of expedited response to your inquiry for a maintenance contract. I will be discussing this with our HVAC Service manager first thing Wednesday when we return from the holidays. We have had an unusually high volume of calls over the last few days. In addition we have had to complete our year end inventory and with the recent flu outbreak it has also taken a toll on the availability of our technicians and office staff. We are a local company and we take our customer feedback very seriously. We will use this information to better ourselves and improve our internal and external communications. Please feel free to call me in the future to discuss any issues at 919-861-1500. Sincerely, William E. Bolton IV Raleigh Operations Manager Bolton Construction and Service, LLC

I noticed wet carpet and sheet rock and discovered the pan under the A/C unit in the attic was leaking. I called Bolton first thing the next morning and was able to get same day service. The servicemen cleaned out the lines, which stopped the water leaking in the pan. They then called to have a new pan made, which was ready by the end of the day. The servicemen returned the next morning to install the new pan. The servicemen were punctual and professional. Will definitely use them again.

Very professional.
Description of Work: I wrote an unflattering review of this company when our ac/heater was installed two years ago. The company had been changing ownership and we got very poor customer service (the product was fine). However, since then we have had our ac/heater serviced semi-annually and the service people are top notch. We plan to continue using them. We hope this is a good trend for the future of the company.

We had Bolton check repairs needed based on home inspection for a condo we purchased. We received proposals for work to be done. Signed contracts - Plumbing responded quickly, however, there was an issue when it came to the removal of the toilets and vanities. The person took his time to ramp up 4 hours at $90 an hour. He took the sink out fairly quick, however, it seemed like someone told him it was on time and material and all of sudden he started slowing down stretching the job out. But the real kicker was the electrical. We had a hard time getting someone to do the electrical. The project manager promised to have someone come out, however, it seemed like they could not spare any one. It got so bad that they sent out the project manager to perform the electrical work. We were really disappointed with how impersonal Bolton was with us. On top of that I tried contacting the project manager after he completed the work. Evidently, there were some wires that exposed in the cabinet and I had questions about them, after not being able to get a response back from him I tried getting someone at the office. They claimed he was out on a job and that would back to us or they would have someone else come out. Still no calls. Overall, it seems like Bolton focuses their business more on business as opposed to residential. They really made us feel like 3rd class.
Description of Work: Plumbing - remove (2) toilets, (2) vanities and (1) faucet along with pvc piping - $380. Replace Apollo Water Heater - $3,216. Electrical - Changed every receptacle in condo - not sure what else was done. Supposedly work needed to be done outside - $1800

Member, Thank you for taking the time to post comments so we may improve the service we perform to all our customers. We quoted all the work performed for your home up front with the exception of the fixture removal work. That work was performed on a time and material basis and included disconnecting the (1) kitchen sink, (1) Dishwasher, (2) Lavatories, (2) Toilets, and removal and disposal of the kitchen cabinets and counter tops. Our work included trips to the dump and tipping fees. We then returned and capped the CPVC water piping serving each fixture. When we presented the invoice I understand that you were unhappy with the total cost so we discounted the invoice by removing ½ Hour from the demolition time and an hour of time for the return trip to isolate the water service and verify there were no leaks. We were not informed of any dissatisfaction with the invoice after these adjustments and at the time of payment. We feel these were fair and reasonable charges considering the scope of work performed; however, I request that you contact me at 861-1500 and let me know what you feel is a reasonable charge for the services performed. In regard to the Electrical Service performed, we were extremely short-handed the week that your electrical work was performed. As a result of our resource shortage, our Electrical service manager personally handled the work. I agree that there is no excuse for the lack of return phone call regarding the wires behind the kitchen cabinet. I have discussed this at length with all our service managers and you will receive a call today. We are a local Family Owned Business we expect our Technicians and Managers be responsive and treat our customers like members of our Family. We appreciate the feedback you have provided so we can make improvements to the way we service all of our customers. Sincerely, William E. We had a heating and air combination system installed in August. Contract was signed in June promising a $500 rebate from Lenox for all systems bought in June. However, the company didn't install until August and even though they promised "we'll take care of it" meaning the $500 rebate, they have not to this day. Multiple phone calls and a visit from my husband to president of company. Found out company had been purchased back by family and all the salespeople who were so irresponsible were gone. These were the people who never returned our calls about the missing rebate. The new president, William, promised my husband to his face and then in writing to us via email that he would give us a paid in full two year service contract to off set the $500 which we were no longer eligible for. This was agreeable to us and we thought we were off to a better start. However, a week has gone by and still no contract has shown up in the mail. We loved Bolton 10 years ago when we got our last heater and this was the reason we went with the company. I have tried to avoid this posting hoping that they would come through--at this point however, they have had the worst customer service/responsiveness I have ever had from a company--and this is after spending almost $10,000 with them!
Description of Work: Installation of combination heater/AC--system works fine so far.

Member, I regret that we were not as responsive to your request as I would have hoped. After the meeting with your husband, we attempted to recover the money from Lennox for the rebate but they would not honor it. We agreed by email a few weeks ago to provide an additional 2 year extension of your maintenance agreement with our company. We have scheduled this service to begin this spring. Please accept my sincere appoligy for the delays to answering your request. As Bolton Service is once again in the Family we are very concerned with responding to our customers. Please call me if this is not acceptable and we will do whatever we can to resolve the matter. Sincerely, William E. Bolton IV
