They were very good. They came to do the estimate and the work when they said. There were two people that came and one was experienced in the sales and the second person was excellent technically and very knowledgeable about HVAC equipment. They were very professional in terms of getting here and doing what they said.

Tech arrived on time as scheduled and troubleshot noise from HVAC unit. Determined that noise was from compressor. Questioned if the noise from the compressor was due to low refrigerant level and investigated thoroughly. Found leak in evaporator coil in attic. Confirmed noise from compressor eliminated with correct refrigerant suction pressure. Provided three levels of repair options. ARS waived fee for current diagnostic visit. Follow-up with ARS Project Manager tomorrow to select appropriate repair option.

My hot water heater sprang a huge leak the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I needed to replace it before travelling on Wednesday afternoon, and ARS was the only company I could find on such short notice before the holiday. I knew I was going to get hit h****** the price because the timing, and after looking up the parts online later, they markups were indeed large. They tried to sell me every possible related plumbing service (relocate the water heater, switch to tankless, replace other gate valves), but I just wanted it fixed before I had to leave. They were able to do the replacement in time for me to make my travel connections, and the work that was done has been solid.
Description of Work: Replaced hot water heater, removed expansion tank from high-pressure line under house, put new expansion tank in next to water heater, replaced gate valve at water heater with ball valve.

ARS was used by MI Homes for the HVAC install in my neighborhood. I have continued to use them as they have always been great every time I have needed them. The HVAC system died during the night after about 2 years after the home was built. ARS came out the next day, spent a lot of time to figure out the problem and dealt with the warranty. The guy was very helpful and explained everything to me as he was working. I also have used ARS to do a hot water heater flush and that was also an excellent experience. Again the guy took the time to explain everything and to look at any other concerns I had while he was there. He also checked the water pressure and discovered it was too high. He adjusted it at no additional charge.

Honestly I don't specifically remember what the call was for. We've been using them for over 15 years to do a twice yearly cleaning of our air and heating systems. I gave them a "B" because some times they've had to come back because something didn't go right. One tech left the ladder - for days! They have a habit of changing my temperature settings without setting them back. A little thing, but like a mechanic who moves one's driver's seat and doesn't move it back - annoying. But, I will continue with them for the foreseeable future! All the techs are professional and friendly.

ARS price was comparable, if not alittle cheaper, they even got me rebates from the electric company. Arrived at my house when they said they would, it took the amount of time they said it would, after installation they took the time to explain everything to me, cleaned up my house and off they went. As a matter if fact, the gentleman who does my yearly maintance stopped in on his day off just to see if the installation was going OK. All in All very pleased with their service, have been for years and would definitely use them again.

For years, we had a contract with ARS to do semi-annual inspections and service on our home's heating and cooling systems. We paid a flat fee for that service and were satisfied. In our fall inspection last August, the ARS technician said that our 10 year old system had leaks in the compressor coil and that it had to be replaced immediately. A sales rep was out in two blinks with an estimate of $6371.00. We called another provider who has done repairs for us in the past, and who replaced another system. That technician brought out his leak detector first and found zilch. Nada. He spent close to an hour in that stifling attic, where the system is located, and didn't find anything amiss, either with his meter or by close visual inspection. (ARS guy said the holes were "numerous" and like pinholes.) The second man explained that the meter is extremely sensitive to ANY hint of coolant, yet it registered nary a hint. My husband was receiving calls from the high pressure salesman wanting to know when the work could be scheduled. My husband finally just told him it couldn't be, without saying why. When the statement arrived for this year's inspection contract, he wrote a letter saying why we wouldn't renew. We just today received a refund check, but no note, letter, call from the business, nothing. While not wanting to say some of ARS employees are outright crooks, it appears they might not be completely honest in their dealings. What is absolutely certain is that whoever is running the show is unprofessional and doesn't care if longstanding clients take their dollars elsewhere. Our message to consumers: Take the time, and spend the money, to get a second opinion. The $100 inspection fee saved us many thousands of dollars we would have spent unnecessarily.
Description of Work: Tried to scam us.

Response from ARS Rescue Rooter
My name is Dave Dombrowski and I am a Manager with ARS (cell 919-291-4682) I am very sorry for the misunderstandings and I would like to call you to discuss these concerns. I would appreciate your help in correcting the negative impression we left with you since it appears from our notes that we attempted to keep you involved at all times. I am also confused since the Angie listing shows that we completed the work on March 21, 2014 but ARS has not been to your home since August 2, 2013, almost 8 months ago. As it relates to the air conditioning, on May 5, 2012 ARS performed a prepaid tune up of your system. At that time we noted that it had a loss of refrigerant and improper pressure and recommended determining the source of the leak. All repairs were declined and there was no charge. The next cooling tune up was performed on August 1, 2013 and the refrigerant charge was still low and had improper pressures. ARS performed a leak search and marked the spots where the leaks were discovered. We did not suggest repairing without having an option to replace the unit due to the age and refrigerant type. The project manager came the next day and presented an option to replace the system. The project manager notes indicate that he did call between 8/2 and 8/5 and was told on 8/5 that you had someone else determine that there was no leak. We offered to send at no charge a supervisor to show you or the other technician the marked leaks but you declined. Again there was never a new charge for these services. The next time we contacted you was in January of this year to schedule your prepaid heat tune and you requested a refund of your agreement. We sent a check as requested. I am very concerned that we have a difference of diagnosis between our technician and another company especially when the records indicate a loss of refrigerant. I would like to offer again to have our supervisor return to your home and show you the leaks that were found in your system. In addition, I would be glad to pay for an additional service call from the other HVAC Company to meet us there so we can get you the peace of mind of having a correct answer instead of two opinions. Again I deeply apologize if we treated you in any manner that was not 100% above board and professional and would like to assist you in discovering if you indeed have any problems with your systems. Please feel free to call me at you convenience. Thank you.

Town called me to let me know my meter showed I had a leak. ARS came out, told me I needed to replace the water line from the meter to the house, approximate cost $2,500. He said that the coupon would not apply as this was a replacement, not a repair. He told me he couldn't pinpoint the leak, only a leak detection company could do that. Called American Leak Detection, they did a simple, no instrument check, said the waterline into the house was fine. Did a pressure check and determined that the house plumbing was fine. Further testing showed two toilets needed flapper valves replacement. $300 to American Leak Detection, $30 in parts to fix the toilets. Problem solved

I apologize for this error. The plumber did not perform a complete check and assumed the problem was a leak in the main line since it had the obsolete blue max piping. In 95%+ of the cases this would have been correct but the bottom line is that we did not do this estimate properly. There was no charge to the customer and the plumber has had corrective action taken. Again this was an error and we apoligize for the assumption. Thank you David Dombrowski 9192914682

My home is next door to our rental property. In fact we tie into the city water line ahead of the rental property. We do not have any issues with excessive water pressure. An appropriate repair would have been to replace the packing inside the faucette or if necessary replace the valve. I called to complain and the technician stuck to his story. I am an architect who designs comercial buildings.. I know that the typical pressure the ciy provides to typical residencial neighborhoods ranges between 35-60psi. 425psi pressure would have caused serious problems with all the fixtures in my rental property, our house, and anyone in the neighborhood who is connected to the city water line. Since this incident, we have not asked them back.
Description of Work: We had a leaking outdoor faucette at our rental property next door. They told my wife that the leaked was caused by excessive water pressure coming from the city water line at the street. They claim to hav measured the pressure at 425psi. The recommended that she install a pressure reducing valve that costs $465.00. Not knowing any better she told them to proceed.

They were very organized and arrived on time with a large crew to remove the prior system. Electricians accompanied the crew to check wiring for new system. They put down drop cloths and used slippers over shoes inside house. Person giving estimate was very well-informed about energy efficient systems and had records of the brands they had installed and the frequency of difficulties with each. Also had rebate information from Duke Energy prepared for simple submission.

They were very quick and responsive with their bid. They are also professional and their techs know what they're doing. They explain things very well. We had received two other bids when replacing the heating & AC unit and all three estimates were very close but we went with ARS because we've had other systems replaced with them and have a service contract with them. They also offered a senior discount off the heating & AC unit and a discount for having multiple units with them. When they repaired the water line they managed to make this repair without damaging any of our trees.

Our hot water heater went bad and we called several places on your list to get quotes. I was impressed that Rescue Rooter said they could come out same day, give us a quote and do the work on a Saturday. I called initially around 1PM and they told me we would be called 30-45 minutes before the technician arrived sometime before 5PM. At 4:30PM we received a call that said no one would be able to come out that day and they rescheduled for the next morning between 8-10AM. They offered a 15% discount for the inconvenience if we decided to use them. The next morning we were called (and woken up) at 7:30AM and told the technician was on his way. Within 5 minutes we received another phone call that said he would be there closer to the end of our appointment time (10AM.) We got a call around 10 and we were told they were on the way and would be at our home within the hour. An hour and 15 minutes later I called them back to find out how much longer we were going to have to wait. They said the technician was 7 minutes from my house. He showed up, looked at the heater and said we would have to replace it. He then gave me a quote that was $700 higher than the provided we ended up using and several hundred dollars higher than many of the other quotes. He was at my house all of 2 minutes. When I asked him if his quote included the 15% discount he said he would give me $50 off only and talked about the fact that our heater (direct vent) was more labor intensive than others. I thanked him for his time and he left. Today I received a call from someone calling to see how our experience went, so I have to give them credit for following up, however when I told her I had no desire to do business with them and why she just said thank you and got off the phone. This told me they really didn't care about the experience I had and I will not be calling them again.

I apologize for all of the confusion concerning this situation. For reasons that, quite frankly are not clear, the only record in the computer was for the estimate scheduled on Sunday Dec 22nd at 3PM. However, I am certainly not doubting the conversations listed by the homeowner and the offer of the discounts. Our technician was wrong in not offering the 15% discount even if the scope of work changed since we made a commitment to that on the front end. Pricing of water heater can be confusing due to models and code upgrades. As an example, our standard water heater includes all compliance issues to current code as well as 6 years of annual inspections. There is also never an additional charge for weekend installations so I can not compare apples to apples on pricing. But the real issue here seems to be communication issues and I deeply appreciate the homeowner bringing this to my attention to correct. As my way of saying we are sorry and thanking you for making me aware, I am sending you a check for $50 to have dinner on us even though you did not use our service. Please call me if I may be of help in the future and I would appreciate it if you would let the Angie's list family know that we are sorry for your inconvenience. Thank you.
