From an F to A On Dec 21, 2015 an ARS technician came to our home to perform the annual inspection of our furnaces, because of his unprofessional behavior, we contacted the local ARS HVAC manager and the ARS President and COO and told them we would no longer be a customer of ARS. ARS Corporate assigned our complaint to a resolution specialist. Both the resolution specialist and the local HVAC manager contacted us. We agreed to meet with the HVAC manager. The HAVC manager came to our home and listened to our concerns and he laid out a plan for addressing each of our concerns. He has fully implemented this plan. This included sending a Project Manager to our home to assess if we have the correct heating and cooling capacities for our home. The corporate resolution specialist stayed in touch with us. When I have an issue with a provider, I contact them before writing my review to give them a chance to address the issues. Many of the providers just say their workers would never do such a thing and we end up in a stalemate. Not ARS. They took our concerns seriously and resolved each one. Because of the extra effort shown by ARS Corporate and the local HAVC manager, we have decided to stay with ARS.

They did a good job. We have been customers of theirs since the ‘90s. They come twice a year. They come in the fall and in the spring to check the systems. I have no complaints about them. We have a contract with them. We do not have to worry. They call and say they are coming. They come and check it and we have never had anything where they had to come back. This time they did, but they came back within 24-hours to fix it. They are reasonable because we had new furnace put in and we had some other work done in our systems. We have been happy with their service otherwise, we would not continue using them. When they say they are coming, we tell them that it have to be within a certain time. We had some problems some time ago. We put in a frying system in and the electrician who they have on contract come and did not do the right job. We just found out a couple of months later, but they made it right. They gave me two years contract where we did not have to pay. So, that was exciting.
Description of Work: We had a spring check-up for our air conditioning systems because we have two. ARS/Rescue Rooter of Raleigh came and did that. Then, something happened and they came back immediately. Something was loose and they came and fixed it. That is what I call good service.

They arrived when they said they would between 9 - 10 am. on 2-26-16. They were courteous of me and my home. They wore the booties on their shoes when they come in the house to protect my floors. I really appreciated that. A supervisor was on the job to answer any questions I had and oversee the job. I am 100% satisfied right now with the installation of the new system. Time will tell if it stays that way. Thanks ARS for a job well done. Kathy M.
Description of Work: Brad L. and David C. with ARC Rescue Rooter in Raleigh installed a Rheem R-410A heat pump outdoor unit and the air handlers on 2-26-16. The emergency drain pan and safety switch were installed and tested. The condenser was set with vibration pads in place and leveled. The refrigerant piping was completed and leak tested. The condensate pump installed, safety switch wired and tested. The thermostat was installed level, heat anticipator set and checked out. The ducting, supply air dampers, registers, insulation, low and line voltage were all completed. The air conditioner or heat pump, electric heat were all started up and checked out. All foundation penetration were sealed. The work areas were cleaned up and trash removed. I was given all the homeowners manuals. I was instructed in how to operate the thermostat, and when to clean or change the filters.

Have used ARS numerous times over the years. Found them "pricey" compared to competitors.. Last time we purchased a new kitchen sink faucet. Called ARS to install. Technician wanted over $200 to do the work even though we had already purchased the faucet. Competitor did it for $85. Back about ten years ago we had tree roots infiltrate the main sewer line in the front yard. Technicians couldn't initially locate the spot so they dug up the yard and then cut out a section of our driveway. It turned our the problem WAS in the yard, not the driveway. They replaced the cut out section but over time it has settled and created an eyesore plus making the drive uneven.

Went well, till they said they had to shut down my system in the middle of a hard freezing weather. which would cause my water lines to freeze and my house to become uninhabitable. Why I asked? My heat transfer had a hairline crack. Ok so is it fixable. No they say I need a new unit. How much I asked? Eight thousand dollars. A gas pack cost 2800. I installed the current one for 3400. Later I came to find out the heat exchanger can be replaced for a few hundred dollars.

The HVAC installation was fine except that they damaged our wall where one of the vents was replaced and said we should take care of that the next time we paint... Didn't mind so much then, but after the plumbing estimate today it peeves me a little more! They charge $90 for a consultation on plumbing and the tech was here for about 20 minutes. He then gave me an estimate for about $700 for the repair needed to the downstairs tub (replace waste and overflow). I said that sounded a little high and he called to ask about the price while I quickly looked up what the repair should cost which was around ~$350 on the high side. He sat out in his truck for a while waiting for a call back and then said he could do the job for $500, I said I would pass since I had already called 2 plumbers that said the repair quote was outrageous. Very disappointed with ARS after spending over 7k with them to get gouged for that kind of money on a somewhat basic plumbing repair. I wish I had gone with another company to do the HVAC repair after the treatment I received today. If you want to pay the most possible for any of your jobs, go with ARS/Rescue Rooter! When I got the plumbing work done, the plumber from another company also found a 2nd leak that was present. I had asked the Rescue Rooter plumber about it because a foundation contractor I was working with said he saw 2 leaks. Rescue Rooter said we did not have a second leak. The problem was addressed along with the waste and overflow for less than half of what Rescue Rooter wanted to charge for the one repair without even being able to find the 2nd plumbing leak.

I had a HORRIBLE experience with ARS. When the men installed the furnace, they left me with 5 gas leaks, and the furnace installation failed the county inspectors review for a permit. Over the span of 6 weeks, I had to call ARS to come out 5 more time to check my furnace for a very obvious gas smell, worked with four different technicians, had to have the gas company come out to my house on two occasions, and the inspector came out twice-- once to fail the installation and a second time to approve it. I felt so uncomfortable with the gas smell in my house, I went out and purchased a $65 natural gas detector. My furnace sits in the crawl space under my house, and during the course of these visits the technicians disrupted and tore the vapor barrier and caused $200 worth of repairs to my waterproofing system, bent and rendered useless some gutter materials I had planned to use that spring, left trash under my house and around the crawl space, left the unit paperwork on top of the furnace, and used bit of scrap material from under my house to prop up pipes. Communication with ARS was horrible. Nobody seemed to know that I'd had issues before, even by third visit to try and fix the furnace. I had to explain my situation 4 different times . Several of the technicians left without giving me any paperwork, and I spoke with different representatives when I called to make appointments. When everything was finally fixed, I spoke with the manager about my situation. I requested that he pay the $200 of damages that the technicians had caused. He did this. To "make things better", he offered to have someone from another branch of ARS come by to look at my crawlspace and suggest a dehumidifier, at a rate I "couldn't resist." The person with the dehumidifier came out and said that a dehumidifier would be ineffective. The solution that ARS came up with is for me to buy a useless piece of equipment that I would still have to pay them for, even if it was discounted. I was reimbursed the $200, but that was it. There was no refund of any of my purchase price or any sort of offer of compensation for the extensive time and energy I had put into this process. ARS does have an Exceptional Service Guarantee. They claim that they will "make it right" (regardless of the time or energy it costs you), or "remove the equipment and cheerfully refund 100% of your money." In retrospect, I should have had them remove the furnace, leave me without any furnace (because they'd taken the old one away), and find another company to work with. From my experience, ARS is an average company overall, as long as everything goes right the first time. If you have problems (even if they cause them), they are nightmare to work with and have little concern for you as an individual.
Description of Work: My furnace broke, and since I had bought my AC unit from ARS about 5 years ago and had them check my heating and cooling systems every year, I called them to replace it (fixing would have been too costly).

They offer a 29$ HVAC inspection deal which I purchased, through home depot. They came out and pointed out several things wrong with my system, in which I disagreed with due to the age of my newer system and wanted to double check. I contacted another company and $90 for a review and they informed me there was nothing wrong with my unit. They have reps right on the floor of Home Depot offering this deal. Certain individuals that come out with "pad" the results of their inspection. I put this out on my list serve to warn other neighbors and noticed similar situations.

I've had ARS Roto Rooter do plumbing work in the past on two occasions, and both times they used scare tactics to pressure me into spending more money than I wanted to spend. I used them through American Home Shield, and the first time they came to fix something that should have cost me $60 and I ended up spending almost $900. Sure, I could have said no, or maybe tell them just to do what they had planned and get a second opinion. But at the time, I decided to just do the work. I had buyer's remorse afterward and felt I had been ripped off. The second time AHS sent them out, they again tried to get me to do more than they came out for. This time I just said No and let them do the work they came out to do. For the last service, I actually was approached at Home Depot by a salesperson who was providing free estimates for heating and air conditioning units. I was surprised when ARS came out instead since the person did not tell me who was doing the work. While the salesperson was very professional and didn't try to pressure me, I had already been discouraged from this company by the previous two visits. Also, he told me a few things that could be done, but when I got a second estimate I found that some of what he told me would have violated code. Also compared to the other company that I used, his estimate was missing lots of details. In the end, I went with Blinson.

I'd been having problems with my furnace, and I met with the representative from ARS. He explained the repair option and quoted me a price on replacement. Because of the age of the unit, I decided to have it replaced. The crew arrived on the scheduled day, and had the entire project done by 2PM. They replaced the attic unit, the AC compressor and one complete "gas pack" unit. The crew was professional, polite and took the time to answer all my questions. They did everything you would expect to protect the carpet in the house, clean up after themselves, etc. These new units are far more efficient and powerful than the old, and we ended up with some hot areas of the house that we did not have before. I called ARS and they sent a technician out to adjust the dampers and balance the air flow throughout the house. I was completely satisfied with the products and services from ARS, and I plan to maintain an ongoing service agreement with them.

Had me over a barrel. I was 500 miles away, and they said I needed a new system in a rental house with 7 inhabitants. I could not verify their claims. Anyway, I told them to go ahead and replace the system. A few days later, the system quit. A service technician said he needed to replace the disconnect switch, which he said was not covered by the 10-year complete system full warranty which I had purchased. His cost for replacing this disconnect was $380. I suggested he simply clean the contacts, which he frowned at and wouldn't do. I cleaned them myself, and it has worked fine now for 11 months, and I suspect it will be fine for years to come! The price for a new disconnect at Home Depot would have been $12! The replacement should have taken about 15 minutes -- at a cost of $368??? I've had similar problems. Had a 10-year complete system full warranty on my home system. When I was away on a 7-week vacation, my AC quit working at some point, resulting in mold growth in my basement!! ARS was called. They could find NOTHING Wrong!!! They insisted I pay for a service call, around $100. What good is a 10-year full system warranty with ARS??? I'll never use them again.

I was disappointed by the lack of preparation. When I called I told ARS exactly what I wanted - an outdoor faucet. When the technician came, he provided a quote then spent the next four hours or so going to the supply warehouse. I thought the original quote was too high, but then realized that I would be paying for his time acquiring a part that I felt he should have had on his truck or at least should have gotten before coming to the house. I'm not sure if this is standard practice or not, but I felt that the job would have been too costly given all of the time spent on the road. I ended up cancelling the job and just paying for the service call. I have had ARS do work in the past and was pleased with their service, but I was not happy with this particular interaction.

The salesman from the Raleigh office of ARS, Tommy, was very professional and thoroughly explained all the benefits that a new heating and A/C system would benefit, along with offering me an excellent price for parts and installation. I was also offered free checks on both systems for a year. My heating system is located in the upstairs attic. Therefore, I was impressed when the technicians, Jaime and Alexander, laid plastic down on the carpet going up the stairs before removing the old system and installing the new one. They also laid down drop clothes by the bedroom door and the entry way. I was also impressed when the supervisor stopped in after lunch to inspect their work and to help them bring the new furnace upstairs. Jaime took great care in installing my A/C unit outside, and Alexander spent sufficient time with me in order to explain how to use the new system. I recommend ARS to anyone planning to install a new heating and air system, as well as yearly maintenance checks. Thank you. Mary J. Flaherty

I was probably a little abrupt after the $189 + $277 quote to replace the PEX pipe and asked for options to reduce the price. He suggested we sign up for ARS/rescue rooters YEARLY HVAC service plan and he could reduce the price. We already had a plan with the company who installed our HVAC system 2 years earlier. He cut the price to $249. My wife suggested that we just needed the line plugged so we could get water back to the rest of the house, and that we'd have the plumbers that would install the new sink/DW to do the work in 20 days. As this would just require a single cut, a plug, and a crimp and 15 minutes I asked what the price would be: The same $249 + the already agreed to service call (they list it as diagnostic :)) and that he'd also take out the toilet in the bathroom. (A side project I asked him to Quote) At that point I didn't want to waste his time or mine , told him we'd do the repair ourselves, paid him the $189 diagnostic fee and sent him on his way. I went to the hardware store, bought $39 PEX crimper, $10 cutter, a $1.49 plug fitting and $9.99 for a bag of crimps (25). It took me 16 minutes and less than $2 in materials to plug the pipe and turn the water back on for what ARS/rescue rooter wanted $438 to do. I think the pricing was very predatory and that the technician thought we had no other options -given that we needed water back on, that we had tilers coming the next morning, and that it was a Sunday. I will be more selective of the plumbing company who will be installing the new pipes, dishwasher, kitchen sink, powder room sink, and toilet.: i <
Description of Work: In taking out kitchen cabinets I accidentally cut the PEX hot water line on a Sunday morning. With water spraying everywhere I quickly shut off the main water line and hot water to the house and contacted ARS/Rescue rooter Raleigh as they advertised 24 hour emergency service. The phone service explained that there would be a $189 service call charge to come out and that any repairs will be additional. I agreed to this, knowing that I didn't have the tools to make the repair myself, and if they could make the repair that day it would allow me to finish getting the Kitchen and Bath ready for the tile company on Monday. I thought the repair job was not that extensive and that it would be a quick job. The phone service was professional, gave me a time between 10-12 that a technician would be there. They followed up with another call telling me they would be there in 30 minutes. The technician arrived at 10:30 and I explained we were going through a remodel. By the time he'd arrived we had all the water dried up and the cabinet completely removed and he had complete access to the piping. He quoted $277 for replacing the 3' of PEX.

All of the service visits were handled promptly and professionally. The evaporator was replaced on 9/17/2015. I am pleased with the result. I have been with ARS since they were Metro Air Conditioning back in the 90's. I have seen reviews suggesting that they are overpriced, but you get what you pay for. I would recommend ARS for anyone needing HVAC services.
Description of Work: I purchased my second HVAC system from ARS in January of 2012. The system showed some early signs of a refrigerant leak, but the service technicians were unable to pin down the location. This past May the coil was frozen over, a clear sign of a leak. A leak check turned up nothing so they charged it at no cost. In August it started showing more signs of leaking. Another leak test this time uncovered the evaporator as the source of the leak. They again charged it at no cost, ordered a new evaporator, and installed the evaporator at no cost despite the fact that it was out of the warranty period for the labor charge.

My house was built in 2007 and the drain pipe underneath the 1st floor bathtub was never aligned correctly. The installing plumbers upon realizing this, laid extra putty around the pipe to stave off leaks for a short period and called it a day. Upon doing some electrical rewiring that required me to cut into the drywall and go underneath my staircase I noticed the leak where my 1st floor bathtub upon draining would spill a substantial amount of water onto the subfloor. I got two quotes from two different services: Michael and son quoted me roughly $1100 to impact hammer the concrete beneath the tub and reestablish a new drain pipe; ARS quoted me $140/hr but suggested that the other option was extreme and likely unnecessary. I went with ARS. A different plumber than the one that initially quoted me showed up, but performed with the same amount of practicality and sensibility promoted by the first. The plumber cut the drain pipe and simply retrofitted an extension = 1hr work for $140. Job done! The plumber showed up right on time worked quickly and efficiently and provided a solution that I inspected afterwards and expect will withstand the test time. All done without employing the extreme measures that were suggested by the competitors quote. Needless to say, but I was ridiculously pleased especially in light of the worst case option. I would highly recommend ARS for repeat business after this experience with them.

A service agent came out and looked at the unit and said it was not able to be fixed and we needed to replace the entire unit. They had a salesman call within the hour and set up an appt to come out the next day to recommend a new unit. We had another AC technician come out from another company and they replaced the capacitor for $120 and our AC unit is back up and running normally and we did not need to replace the unit after all. Don't call ARS Rescue Rooter for AC servicing!
Description of Work: We called because our AC unit stopped working

Did a great job. Recommended a different type of faucet than I had purchased. Was very helpful and professional. Easy to schedule appointment.
