I called Allen Kelly & Co. in the morning hours and explained my downstairs A/C unit wasn't cooling the house properly. I spoke with Kelly and she was very professional and courteous. Even though I explained it wasn't an emergency, she said a service technician could be at my house the same day. She gave me the name of the technician that would be performing the service call and explained he would call me approx. 30-45 minutes before his arrival at my house. I really appreciated this, since I didn't have to leave work until I knew he was on his way. Dail arrived EXACTLY on time!!!! He was very professional and assessed the situation within minutes. He was even incredibly tolerant of my two big dogs. who seemed to think he had arrived to visit them. Dail explained the results of his diagnostics and explained options. He performed the service and was completed within 20-30 minutes. He explained the company is now paperless and promised a copy of the paid invoice via email, which arrived as agreed. I cannot begin to explain how pleased I am with the overall experience. I will certainly use Allen Kelly & Co. again, and recommend the without reservation!!!
Description of Work: My downstairs A/C unit needed recharged with freon.

I had left a message, Kelly returned the call within 24 hours. Was able to schedule for next day. Technician called to give his arrival time, and was helpful and professional and thorough. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I was concerned that I needed a new AC unit, but was thrilled only needed a part replaced. I signed up for yearly heat and A/C maintenance. An A/C checkup and maintenance was performed and the part was replaced at that first visit. The technician even replaced my air duct filters for me. He was very professional, helpful and worked quickly.

We got three quotes, one that was astronomically high (and shockingly high pressure), one from a no frills vendor catering to new construction, and one from Allen Kelly & Co. Although the dollar amount was more than with the no frills vendor, we felt that Allen Kelly & Co provided the right level of support. Several options were made available to us, including geothermal (at our request) and we felt we ended up with a good understanding of the merits of all the options. We ended up choosing two Trane XL16i units because of their energy efficiency and decibel rating. (Allen Kelly & Co only carries Trane units except for geothermal). We called to place our order on a Monday and two crews were sent out on the Wednesday, one for each unit, and finished the same day. One crew seemed to be a little better than the other, which showed up late and seemingly did not set up the unit correctly (the downstairs unit kept cycling off and on every forty seconds). It only took one call to the company to get someone out to check out the downstairs unit, and he was able to fix it in one visit. I was very impressed with their responsiveness and they did not give me any hassle when we said we were initially unhappy. I will say that I was surprised at how large the XL16i units are -- they seem like giant robots in our back yard and we wish we'd better taken size into account in our planning. Also, the transformers within the indoor (crawlspace/attic) air handlers have a slight, but audible hum that took a bit of getting used to in our previously quiet house. However, Allen Kelly and company actually insulated the transformers and found us a quieter transformer, both of which helped to reduce the noise, which we greatly appreciated. All told, we were very happy with the responsiveness of the company and pretty happy with the XL16i units (it's too early to say how much we are saving in electricity bills). We will use Allen Kelly & Co. to service our units in the future.
Description of Work: We replaced our 25-year-old home's original dual HVAC units this winter (thus assuring it was one of the warmest on record). They were functional but seemed to be soaking up more electricity every year.

The technician was courteous and efficient. He diagnosed the problem quickly and repaired it with parts off his truck. He also added refrigerant to the system. The only problem I have with this company is that they did not honor the Angieslist coupon for 15% off. That would be $70; not a trivial sum. I requested a credit when I received an email a week ago with the invoice, but I have not heard from them yet.
Description of Work: No heat. The technician diagnosed the problem as blown transformer. He also added a fuse to the thermostat line that may have been the origin of the problem.

I was in my yard working when I heard a hard buzzing sound - it would stop, then at set intervals, buzz again. I determined it was coming from my heat pump outside unit. I thought it might be a start capacitor but wasn't sure. I checked Angie's list and (probably not smartly) picked the first company listed. I had heard Allen Kelly ads and knew they were an established business. The call was picked up immediately and a technician dispatched with the knowledge that there would be a $109 service charge. The tech called before arrival and was at my house promptly. He confirmed it was the start capacitor but didn't have one with him. He gave me the cost to replace the capacitor and I agreed. Thinking on it now - $317 is way too much to replace a $20 part and I should have paid the service charge and gone to Lowe's and picked up a capacitor. Live and learn. It would have been more if I hadn't printed the coupon from Angie's list for 15% off. He returned about 45 minutes later and installed the part which fixed the problem. Good service but high pricing. I think next time I will shop around a bit more but might still use Allen Kelly.

I happened to notice smoke drifting out of my heat pump and called Allen Kelly the next morning after a very cold night. They gave me an afternoon appointment so I didn't have to leave work early and the technician was sitting in my driveway when I arrived home. Turns out that the heat pump was doing what it was supposed to do, but it was a relief to me that it wasn't going to catch fire and burn my house down. He accepted the Angieslist coupon I presented and a check for services. Easy transaction, polite and prompt technician.

The original visit was made by Mellissa Hall who sat down with us to listen intently to our concerns with the existing Furnace/Air Conditioner and gave us a comprehensive review of all options. She was thoroughly knowledgable in all aspects of Residential Heating and A/C. She responded to every one of my endless questions in a most professional manner. Then she donned her coveralls and proceeded to examine the total crawlspace and attic to evaluate the existing unit. She provided a detailed estimate of the proposed replacement and outlined every aspect of the work to be done. The estimate was compared in detail with two other comparable estimates and accepted. The installation was scheduled to avoid the Thanksgiving holiday and began precisely as scheduled. The installers, Jason and Elia, were professional and courteous and careful to avoid any soiling of carpets, etc. They arrived on time and worked continuously. I am an engineer by profession and critical to a fault of work being done. I never once had any occasion to question the thoroughness and expertise of their work. Every consideration was given to the use and aftercare of the system. They removed the old system, completely removed all the existing ductwork and installed the new system and completed the work before the alloted time!! The system has been in service for over six weeks and I cannot begin to say enough positve things to summarize how pleased we are with the overall experience , which we had dreaded so badly at the beginnining!. Without any reservations, I woud recommend the Allen Kelly organization to anyone needing such services.

They came out twice. Once they came because the system wasn’t cooling well and our bills were astronomical, and the second time the system just wasn’t working. They diagnosed that the coils outside were filthy so they cleaned them and then they had to replace a capacitor. They did a great job. They could have gotten me for a compressor but they told me that I just needed a little part.

Turned on heat for first time of season and discovered it was not working. Husband, who usually performs these types of repairs, was away on business. I chose this company based on Angie's List rating and available coupon. Was pleased that a service tech was sent out the same day as my call, even though I was told it would be the next day. Service tech listened to my description of problem, checked the unit and told me a motor was burned out. Replacement had to be priced and ordered, as it was not stocked. Paid the diagnostic fee of $109, saving discount coupon for anticipated repair. Estimate of $670 (parts and labor) came the next day. I was surprised it was so much. Called and left message asking for clarification. Call was not returned. Opted not to perform repair. Husband returned from trip several days later and found that the motor worked fine. Problem was resolved with a $30 'squirrel cage' part. Needless to say, I felt deceived about nature of problem. Was glad I 'made do' without heat downstairs rather than spend hundreds of dollars unnecessarily.

Response from Allen Kelly and Company Inc
There was a misscomunication on this service call. Our technician found the fan/inducer assembly for the unit seized. The recommended repair for this is to replace the inducer assembly (fan and blower wheel factory assembled) as a complete unit since it is part of the flue gas removal system. WE did quote a price of $636 for the parts, procurement and labor to replace this assembly. We are sending the customer a coupon for a free diagnostic call to use any time in the next 5 years. Our intent was to provide the customer with the proper repair that is recomended by the manufacter of the equipment.

Sales person came to my home and discussed several possible options for repair/replacement of the two existing systems, one of which was inoperable. He was knowledgable and very helpful. He took the time to fully explain the options available. Sales persons from two other companies presented solutions which were not comprehensive and more expensive. Final decision was complete replacement of both systems. Not the cheapest solution, but the best long run solution. Installation required two full days. Installers were prompt and courteous. They completely removed the existing systems and replaceed them with new equipment. There were several problems which were handled on a timely basis by rearranging the installation process. Both installers were meticulous. They were very careful to check that all was complete and correct. One drain was hindering the opening of the cabinet and they completely redid the drain. They took time to clean up after each day. They provided all the paperwork for income tax submission and the Progress Energy rebates. I am completely satisfied. Allen Kelly is highly recommended.
Description of Work: Complete removal and replacement of two Air Conditioning/Heating systems including both indoor and outdoor components. Call at least three contractors. I had multiple options for repair or replacement. Get price quotes for each option from each contractor. Most contractors had very short or no warranties for repair options. Ask how long before they can perform the service and ask how long it will take. I knew up front that it would require two days and they were right.

It didn't start off great when he call 7 minutes after he was supposed to be there and said he was going to be there 20 minutes late. Then he finally showed up 56 minutes late. So that 1st impression wasn't good at all. Seemed knowledgeable about the system and was able to give me a quote right away. The price ended up being almost $500 more than others with the same unit.

Our downstairs gas package needed an evaporator on a low end contractor unit. I decided to replace instead of investing half the cost of new machine into a repair on an out of warranty system. I got several quotes using the internet and Angies List. The result was I picked Allen Kelly based on Angies list reviews, price and my own intuition based on conversations with the company. It worked out for me. We are happy with the service and price. They were not the lowest and hardly the highest bid. From the initial contact to installation they tried to do everything right and to accommodate my needs when possible. They trimmed the bushes as little as possible to accommodate moving in the new machine. They explained everything and cleaned up everything. The only thing that happened was that they turned the gas off to the house to connect the new unit; however, they did not relight the hot water heater. I cold shower in the morning and prompt return call to blead the gas line to the hot water heater before lighting solved the problem. While not thrilled about that one thing in the grand scheme of things it was not a big issue and a small oversight on the installers check list. All in all, we are happy. Some of the Angies List recommended companies behaved like used car sales people by offering everything under the son and not taking no for an answer. It might be a sign of the times but I preferred the professional approach that I got with Allen Kelly.

I came home from vacation to a sweltering home, because the air conditioning was not working. I went to Angie's List and made appointments to take bids from four companies, all of whom got prominent listings and A ratings on Angie's List. One company, which I will not name, gave me a "the sky is falling" kind of assessment, and of course said the real only good option I had was to buy a whole new system, at a cost from $8,000 to $10,000 (final quote came in closer to $10,000), minus rebates. The guy was very slick, but was saying I also needed new duct work for $1,200. He slipped in lovely little things like telling me I don't have to do this, but with mold, moisture, etc... I might get cancer or other terrrible diseases. I had three other bids to take, so I thanked him and said goodbye. He kept calling with as much of a hard sell as he could. Two other companies came and while they tried to encourage the a whole new system, told me I could just get a new air handler. When I mentioned new duct work they gave me a quote for that also; on second thought, since I brought it up, they looked again and said that yes I really do need new duct work. Their quotes were about $4,300. Then Allen and Kelly showed up, and the guy might as well have been sporting a long white robe and angel wings. He said I needed a new air handler, for about $2,500. I was obviously very happy. They showed up on time, did a perfect job, and I am thrilled. The moral of the story is that if you need work on your AC/Heating unit(s), make sure you take a bid from Allen Kelly and Company.
Description of Work: Allen and Company installed a new air handler at a much lower cost than any of the other companies that submitted bids.

We chose them because they were almost 1000 less expensive than the other contractors who gave us a quote. Andy, who came out and did the inspection / gave us a quote has been with the company for over 15 years. He was very efficient and genial. He based his quotes on what our needs and budget were. The workers actually showed up almost an hour early when they put the system in, which was a little inconvenient, but better than being late I guess. They ended up giving us a better thermostat than what we had been quoted, but didn't charge us extra. They were also efficient, and left everything looking very nice and neat. We have A/C again after 2 weeks of being without, so that is wonderful. We also have a 2 year service contract, so hopefully we will continue to stay cool
