Very nice guy and does know what he is doing. Biggest issue is quality of his work, especially when he hurries. Fit of tiles could have been much better and quite a bit of grout cleanup was left for us. Some tiles on the floor and shower wall are not completely flush even though new wall board or floor board was put down. None on the floor were enough to cause us to stub our feet but a couple on the shower wall were bigger. One was right in line with the shower glass enclosure but the person installing the shower glass was able to make it look okay. Some tiles on the floor did not line up which he said was due to slight differences in the tile sizes. Which I could see but taking a moment to try a different tile would have improved the look. He said he didn't know that was important to me. After we discussed it he did a much better job on the shower wall. This was an expensive investment for us so I was hoping for top quality work.

Response from Affordable Tile by Moses
This customer' job would have been worse, if not because of the extra extra effort that I put in working on his tile installation. I spent hours of free services, correcting the bow on the 2x4 studs and adding extra 2x4 studs on the walls for backing because his walls did not have backing. on the plumbing wall. Customer's tile came in different sizes in same box - usually, some tiles can be different in sizes in different box, but not in same box. I did explain this issue to the customer during the installation process I had a difficult time installing the tiles because of the differences in sizes. I did everything possible to make the installation as good as it can possible be. I'm disappointed that the customer gave me C after every effort that I put in his project to make his floor and shower tile installation durable and look as good as possible.

Moses did an excellent job. I hired him based on Angie's list and the positive reviews he had received and I'm glad that I did. I paid for the "deal" and then paid extra to expand the scope of the project. The work looks fantastic. Moses went above and beyond to ensure that a half-wall between my shower and tub looked good. The work detail is high quality custom with mitered and angle cuts on the wall and the surround. Moses showed up when he said that he would and kept the area clean. I came home after his first day demolition work and he had cleaned up all the old tiles, wiped up dust, etc. When the plumber I had contacted failed to show, he worked with the schedule of the alternate plumber to get the job done. He was always professional and personable. The quality of his work product shows that he takes pride in his work and in his craft.

He charged us more than the original estimate, he said he did more work. He still did not do some of the work that we thought was going to be included. He was a nice guy; he was neat, polite, interesting to chat with, and had a good personality. Pricing wise, he was similar to other providers we had out to give estimates. We would use him again if we needed more tile work (but hope we don't need anymore tile work!).

The scope of work as not written, so there was confusion about what was to be done.. Because the shower threshold was not sloped back to the inside of the shower, water now runs out onto the bathroom floor.

Response from Affordable Tile by Moses
Unbelievable! This customer's job was very very good, and I did not go back to install their cabinet because it was not part of the estimate. I went to the customer's house after two hours that he called me and asked me to come and take a look ..that water is coming out from the threshold when they take shower. The problem has nothing to with the threshold, none whatsoever! Customer has shower swing door that is halve an each short from resting on top of the threshold as it should and without weather strip to keep the water inside the shower when somebody is taking shower. The customer's shower threshold has enough slope, and was installed properly. I have done it at least 1000 times If there is space between the shower door and the shower threshold, when you take shower, water will run out from the space to outside the shower because the door is too short, so nothing prevent or contain the water inside the shower - that's just common sense. I was at her house yesterday, I explained the cause of the problem to her husband, and he fully understood it, and thank me for coming promptly.

Ken Moses came to look at the shower the same day and had started on it the following day, He got a plumber to replace the drain. Home is VERY old. And, it was finished in 2 days. Exceptional work. He is the BEST serviceman that I have EVER used and he gets an A+ rating. I am a realtor and am always looking for good people.
Description of Work: My client bought a condo in The Oaks and the tile shower leaked. We asked many people to look at it and even got a quote from a big box store to redo the entire shower. It was going to take 2 months and cost a lot of money.

Moses did a good job for us. I would use him again. Pros: About 40% less than the other bid we received. Good job. Fast scheduling. Cons: I would have liked to have known that he needed a check when finishing the job- I ended up having to come home to pay him. Forgot one minor item- when pointed out he did it.

Conclusion: I recommend to definitely use Moses for your tile work. He definitely knows what he’s doing and can do quality work. He’s the most affordable around and extremely likable. Just be sure that you ask him to “Take his time”. If he is willing, pay him extra for this up front and be sure you have your payment worked out ahead of time. He works for himself and can give the best price around because of this. Just look at the picture I supplied of the final results. They are amazing! Thank you Moses for your hard work on our project. Pros: Moses is an extremely likeable person and very friendly. Moses pricing was extremely affordable. This makes up for most of any headaches we may have had. The other two quotes for the same work he did was more than $2000.00 more than Moses Quote. Installation of the shower membrane was perfect. The plumber even said that he does it the right way. Any issues I found were addressed up to the last day he was onsite. The finished product is beautiful! Cons: My wife was very specific in what she wanted for the tile design. Moses tried to talk us out of having the stone on the wall because the stone we used was not in perfect squares allowing for easy installation. We were able to compromise and even though he still didn't like the plan, saying it would not look good. In the end, he was wrong. I have some tiling experience and much remodel experience. I was able to watch Moses while he worked. I saw him making many mistakes ONLY because he was extremely rushed. He was forced to start the job a day late because the plumbers caused the delay. He said he was rushed because of the next job he needed to start after ours. The tile spacers were left in the wall tile and were grouted over.... This is a bad habit because these spacers were sticking out of the grout and weren’t found until I did a close inspection after Moses was off the job for good. He had missed taking these 4 spacers out... I had to dig them out and re-grout the tile myself. While cleaning the grout before re-grouting, I uncovered a broken tile that was grouted over to hide. The Gray floor tile mud base had come up between the tiles and was not cleaned before hardening. When it was grouted with White grout leaving the gray mud showing through the grout. Moses had an excuse for any/all issues that were found during the install. I was forced to leave at the last minute on Friday because an elderly family member was in the hospital 600 miles away. This was the day Moses was scheduled to finish the job. He demanded payment from my wife and threatened to not leave our home until he received payment in full. Unfortunately I had left my Home equity line checkbook at the office which was not accessible until I got back the next Monday. Because I was out of town, I was not able to do my final inspection of his work and could not sign off on the tile job myself before he demanded this payment. He didn’t care. My wife spent half the day trying to coordinate how to get payment from the bank without our HELOC checkbook and could not work which she was trying to do from home. This was emotionally stressful, disrespectful, and unprofessional of Moses. He said his wife would kill him if he didn’t bring home a check and that was his reasoning. When I got back from the trip I was very mad because I found all of the issues with the installation. We would not have been required to pay him if I had seen this due to the job being incomplete so we went through that whole mess of stress for nothing!

My experience with Affordable Tiles by Moses was excellent and I would recommend them to friends and family. I called to get an estimate and Mr. Moses was able to come out within 2 days. He gave me an estimate which was very fair and I scheduled an appointment with him right away. I had to cancel my originally scheduled appointment and he called back within 5 minutes with a new appt. date which was actually sooner than my original appointment. I purchased the tile and Mr. Moses used all other materials of his own. He was very neat and used a dustpan and broom to clean up as he worked. The tile I chose was a alittle more labor intensive then the original quote called for, but Mr. Moses still only charged me the original quoted price. I would absolutely have Affordable Tiles By Moses do more work on my house!

Summary: We're not happy with the crooked and jacked up tiles, and are going to have the tiles redone by a trusted tile installer. Tile Installation Quality Assessment - (from This Old House Article) * Are spacing between joints consistent.? - NO * Are grout lines perfectly straight.? - NO * Are tiles perfectly straight, and flat against surface?- NO * Visible cut lines/seams from saw? (You should not see cut lines) - YES * Masked off areas with tape, sheets to protect outlets, and counter tops? - NO Please see attached pictures. He believes this is the BEST anyone can do with this particular kind of tile. "This is how the tiles are." he said. You will never see pictures of this work, or any of his other poor ratings on his website. We had the same experience as the other F rating where the glass tiles are all cracked and chipped. Lesson Learned: * Don't trust Angie's List A Ratings * Get Referrals from people you know and trust * Pay particular attention to poor ratings supported by pictures of work * Use NTCA (National Tile Contractor's Association) to search for professional tile installers [*** Link removed ***] Moses was initially a day late coming out for the install because his car broke down. I understand these things happen so I was fine with that. His price was reasonable and he seemed knowledgeable based on our conversation. My husband was home during the install and noticed while he was installing that some of the tiles were crooked. He would point this out and Moses said that is how the tiles are. He didn't mask of the outlets or adjoining surfaces like the counter tops, so there was grout all over the outlets, and our granite counter tops. We spent several hours cleaning and chipping away grout from the outlets. We weren't able to see all of the imperfections until we cleaned the tiles the following day We asked him to come back out and fix some of the grout and help us with the outlet face plates since many seemed like they would no longer line up with the tile. He came back out, and touched up the grout but insisted that he couldn't work with the face plates since he is not an electrician. He also insisted that once we put spacers in the outlets, the face plates would fit fine. He seemed very aggravated that we were asking him for help with this. I pointed out the crooked pieces of tiles and spaces where grout looked uneven and he'd dismiss it as if nothing was wrong and it was the tile and grout that I bought that were the problem. Once we finally got the face plates on the outlets, there are gaps/cracks on some between the tile/outlet face plates. My husband and have decided that we will have to tear out the back splash and have it redone since it looks so bad. I have a few friends who have installed tiles them themselves and they couldn't believe how bad our tiles looked. I too am in disbelief. Next time we will go with a friend's referral for a job like this. I had no idea that a small job could go so wrong. I want to make sure that others don't make the same mistake.

Response from Affordable Tile by Moses
[Member Information Removed]'s tile [Member Information Removed] outcome was as good as it could possibly be. [Member Information Removed] and her husband did not express dislike or dis-satisfaction about the [Member Information Removed] during [Member Information Removed] or after [Member Information Removed] when I was at their house. When I came for the estimate, I explained to the [Member Information Removed] that after the tile [Member Information Removed], she will need spacers and longer screws to bring the electrical outlet out so that the outlet cover will level with the tile. These has to be done after 24 hrs. of the the [Member Information Removed]. To help them, I cut the tile holes for the outlet the way it support and level up with the tiles, so that they will not need to install spacers. but just use the longer screws to put back the outlet cover. After few days of the [Member Information Removed] called me and stated that all the outlets have problems and that I needed to come back. The day that I suppose to come back to her house to check on the outlets, we agreed to meet at her house at 5 pm, I left work early at 4 pm because I was coming from Chapel Hill to her location in [Member Information Removed] - after [Member Information Removed] more than 45 minutes, [Member Information Removed] called me to tell me that no one will be home so I should come back another day. When we finally met at the [Member Information Removed]'s house and I checked every outlets, and there were nothing wrong with the outlets, then she told me that they wanted me to do it for them. I helped them as much as I can, also touch up few areas that grout was missing. When I started doing the [Member Information Removed], I did explain to her husband the challenges that their tile posed because the tile was not line up to each other as it. The outcome of the tile [Member Information Removed] was as good as it can possibly be. Her husband watched the [Member Information Removed] from the start to the end. After the tile [Member Information Removed] was completed, five hours between drying time before the grouting, her husband was there and did not complain or show any dis-satisfaction about the [Member Information Removed]. Also, the [Member Information Removed] came home and approved the job done and paid in full. I work hard in every job! I'm honest, when I come to your house for estimate, I will point out any challenges that might affect the outcome of the [Member Information Removed]; such as the condition of the wall, floor, or the [Member Information Removed]'s tile. I'm one of the top best tile installer in the country. once in while, there's always a [Member Information Removed] that you cannot satisfy regardless how much you tried.

I called on a Tuesday morning because tile had started falling off the wall in my shower (apparently the original builder was allowed to mount the tile directly on drywall, and the water was seeping through and making that soft. Mr. Moses came out later the same day, explained the problem to me and determined the extent of the repair needed. The particular tile is neutral color but an older size and no longer being made. But, I really did not want to retile the entire bathroom as there is extensive matching tile work on the floor and around the bath tub. He said he could take down, clean, and reuse the existing tile. He recommended that I select a decorative mosaic to make a strip of that since it is the style now and also would give him latitude in case a few tiles broke during the removal. He provided a written quote. I called to hire him that Friday after getting a couple of other quotes from people who clearly knew much less about tile and who wanted to charge many times more to completely redo everything instead. He said he could come the next Wednesday morning. I asked him to come earlier than his normal time (I needed him to arrive at 7:45 am) because I needed to be out the door. He came at exactly that time, did the job perfectly, and came back later to check and make sure I was happy with the work. It looks great! His ideas saved me tons of money and made the bathroom look new and updated. Would definitely hire again.
Description of Work: Removed existing tile, replace drywall underneath with backer board, cleaned existing tile, remounted existing tile with the addition of a decorative mosaic accent that I had selected from Lowe's.

Ken was very clear and honest in all of my dealings with him. When I left Ken a message, he called within 24 hours and told me he would be tied up for about a week. When he has made a commitment to a customer that is his first priority. He told me that after we met and provided an estimate he would place me on his schedule after I accepted his bid. I felt comfortable with Ken from the beginning, and couldn't be more pleased with his work. The bathrooms turned out great. I appreciated how punctual Ken was during the time he worked on my job. I was comfortable having Ken open up and close my house when I needed to head out. Ken's bids were reasonable and everything was included, no additional charges of any kind. Ken is very meticulous in his work, he has been in the tile business for many years, and it shows in his work. I was surprised that Ken works on his own, he does all the demo and tile work, so perhaps the process might take a day or two longer, but quality is what Ken is all about, it isn't a race to finish your job and move onto the next. He was very accommodating to work with my plumbers as they needed access during certain stages. I look forward to having Ken come back in April to do our 3rd bathroom. He was a pleasure to have in my home at all times. Look no further, Ken Moses is your guy.

Ken Moses did a sub-par job of installing our glass tile back splash in our kitchen. So bad, in fact, that it needs to be ripped out and redone. I am very upset about this. The tile was $25 a square foot. And we paid him $645 to install it. It makes one sick to go through this. What is more disturbing is that Mr. Moses believes he did a stellar job and will take absolutely no responsibility for the terrible job that he did. He insists that the problem was the tile, not him. He insists no one can install the tile without it chipping and breaking. After wiping the haze off the tile the next day and slicing my finger open on a rough edge that he left and insists that nothing could be done to make it safer, I found the grout to be sloppy. The tiles were not aligned properly and many are crooked. Please see the pictures. There was a film placed on the stainless tiles to protect them from being scratched during installation. He missed this and grouted before removing most of the films. I went back while the grout was still wet and peeled it off. Then I had to smooth and regrout around those tiles. While he was sponging off excess grout, he rubbed the sponge on the underneath of the counter overhang and got tiny pieces of wood on the sponge and proceeded to rub that all over the back splash leaving bits of wood in the grout. He did not notice this at all. I went and picked all the wood pieces out with my fingernail and smoothed out the grout. There were also many spots where grout was missing. I went in and added more grout to those areas. All this extra work and it still was not enough to save the job. I sent pictures out to the manufacturer of the tile after install and they were appalled at the way it looked. I also sent pictures out to a few installers and they were all in agreement: this guy had no idea what he was doing. Mr. Moses may very well be good at installing some tile in some situations. He argued with me about the job her performed so adamantly that there is no way he will believe that he in any way did a bad job. That is the scary part. He will go out and do this to others instead of learning that maybe glass tile is something he should not install. I joined Angie's list to avoid contractors like this. If someone who performs so poorly and takes no responsibility for the job can get a super service award from Angie's list, then it is a membership that is not worth the money to say the least. I am now waiting for new tile to be made and working with a new contractor that has a warranty, guarantee, and CAN install this tile the way it was meant to be installed. I am just sorry I did not pick them to begin with. It is costing me more than what I paid him to demolish the tile and repair the drywall. What a waste of time and energy and terrible experience to go through.

Response from Affordable Tile by Moses
This customer's kitchen back splash tile installation outcome was as best as it could be, considering the wall condition in the kitchen area, also the glass tile provided by the customer is only 3/16'' of an each instead of 5/16'( many glass tile size is about 5/16'') I went through everything about the nature of the glass tile installation with her husband when I was at there house for estimate, also went through everything again with the customer before the installation started. So they were aware of what the outcome would be after the tile installation. After the installation and the grout, the customer and her husband spent over an hour adjusting the tiles and adding more grout on the grout lines that were already completed and cleaned, but they claimed that it needed more grout in some areas to fit there liking, and disregarding my warning to them, for interfering with the original outcome of the installation of the kitchen backsplash. Customer and her husband approved the job and paid in full. . Next day, customer called me stated that she cut her hand when she was cleaning the surface of the tile( she was suppose to use clean towel to wipe out the extra haze on the tile surface. instead she used her bare hand. She accused me of not using proper tools to do her tiles. I have every tools made for tile installation in any one of our work trucks. I used wet saw to cut hers tile, which is the only saw you can use for cutting glass tiles including the smooth edge blade. Her job was done right, maybe she does not understand what the outcome would be with that type of tile - which she picked. I have done at least seven glass kitchen backsplash this year. I did glass tile installation of another customer, right before her job. Yesterday, I finished another glass kitchen backsplash more than twice the size of this customer's and the new customer was very happy with the outcome. Two of the customer's neighbors are on my schedule now, after seeing all the job i did in that house, including bathroom floors and fire place mosiac tile installation. My job speaks for itself! Every job outcome is not always 100%, but my job is to make sure that any job that I did will be as close to 100% as possible.
