I would definitely call him again. Overall, his service is A+++.
I was also slightly put off by his marketing pitch both prior to and following the estimate. While, Affordable Tile by Moses may be the right fit for one person, this company was not the right one for my job.
"I do not remember this customer because it has been a long time. I f I came to the customer's house on February 7, why did it take this customer over six months to write this review. I was a lead man of a crew of custom marble installation for state wide known marble company (Majestic Marble and Glass company) for five years. I have installed marble in showers, floors, tub, walls, tubs ... in hundreds of homes. I never knew that a customer will complain about getting a low estimate, but it will not stop me from offering affordable estimate to the customers."
We also had two reschedule twice due to a medical emergency and an asbestos abatement. Ken still managed to fit us into his busy schedule. He was very gracious.
"This customer purchased floor coupon and demanded for the installation immediately. I told the customer that I have other customers ahead of him, but if he want, I could come to his house the next day and bring some tile samples for him to choose, and after my visit, I will come back for the installation as soon as possible. The following day I went to his house and after measuring his floor - his floor was about 70 total sq ft instead of 40 total sq ft he told me over the phone that his kitchen floor was. I told the customer that his floor area is more than 40 total sq ft, so he will be charged for 30 extra sq ft. Then the customer told me that he cancelled the coupon with Angies List that morning, that he does not trust Angies list, and he wanted to deal with me without the Angies List coupon.. I told the customer that I cannot do that, so he asked me to leave his house and I did."
Ken was punctual, polite, and worked without a break from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm for four and a half days until our bathroom was completed.
He handled any problems that arose with grace and inventiveness.
We are beyond pleased with our beautiful new bathroom!
Ken was on time every day. Arrived at 8:00 and left at 7:00.
He never took a lunch and was always on time.
We had a few items to fix once he was finished and he
was very responsive to our calls. Over all I would recommend Ken
to anyone who does not need a one service provider shower stall installation.
As he told me many times "I am not a plumber"
"This customer sent me an e-mail to come to her house for an estimate for a small job in her bathroom. I replied her e-mail same day, stating to her that I cannot be able to do her job because of my work heavy schedule. She replied and stated that "her job maybe too small for me, she's a factory worker, and she does not have a lots money, but she wanted me to fix her shower because of my reviews," I told the customer, if she can wait until I have time in-between two schedule jobs, I will come to her house to help her. We agreed to meet in her house in Clayton on this Friday (6/6) after the completion of another customer's job in Durham, but unfortunately, when I finished the job on Friday, it was too late to drive from Durham to Clayton during the rush hours. I called the Customer and explained to her that I was running late for the Friday appointment and we agreed to meet on Monday. Customer's time is very important to me. I tried to meet up with this customer in time, I was very busy to meet with her that Friday, but I did call her and let her know my situation. I'm not sure why she did this review because I asked her if Monday is alright with her and she said yes. If Monday was not good for her, I would have gone to her house Friday night regardless what time I get there."
"The coupon is not misleading. This customer did not know the difference between a tub shower and a standard (walk-in) shower- I did explained the difference to her and her husband. She have the built in vinyl tub and wall panel shower, which did not qualify for the tub shower coupon; I explained to her that she can apply the coupon to have a standard shower if she pays the labor and materials for the part of the standard shower the coupon did not cover. Our tub/shower coupon is for the tub that can be tiled, or the replacement of the existing wall tile for new wall tile. The coupon can be apply to a standard walk - in shower, but there is extra charge for the shower floor system and the shower floor tile installation (shower floor system and the shower floor tile are not included in coupon) After the demolition of the existing vinyl shower, customer will need a plumber to raise the height of the faucet handle to proper height for a standard shower, the shower drain will be moved towards the center of the shower floor with shower drain cap for tile (if the existing shower is a tile walk-in shower, plumbing work may not be needed) I explained to the customer about the coupon and the plumbing work involve in having a walk-in tile shower as I have done before to other customers before her. The plumbing work needed for tile standard shower is not with the coupon, and there is no tile company on this earth will offer a 5 feet x 7 feet, 3 feet x 7 feet, 3 feet x 7 feet standard walk-in tile shower, labor and materials included for $1,490.00. The average regular price for walk-in tile shower in her bathroom size is $2,500.00 labor and materials included The wording on the coupon is very clear and understandable, and many customer bought the coupon because it's a very good deal."
"What this customer fail to mention is how bad their walls were before I started on the shower. It took me almost entire day to install some 2 x 4's behind their walls for support. Their plumber couldn't secure the shower head to the studs because there was 2 x 4 in the place where stud should have been, I was the one who secured the shower head for him free of charge. customer's walls didn't have enough back (2" x 4" studs) support, and the walls were bowed. With customer's bowed stud and 12" x 24" wall tiles and 1/2 " x 1/2" mosaic tiles for the shower floor that the customer bought made the job highly impossible to obtain the best result. I completely explained to the customer that 12" x 24" tiles is too big to use because of the condition of their walls, and the 1/2" x 1/2" mosiac tile is not an ideal tile for shower floor, but they insisted to use the tiles.anyway. Their shower was properly done. If the customer is truly planning to redo the shower, it must be for a different reason, it cannot be because of the outcome the new shower as they claimed. I assured the customer while I was in their residence in January that if there is anything I can do further to please them, I will be more than happy to come back at free of charge, and I'm still stand by that promise. I will always do my best to every each of my customers, and I'm very proud of my work. I still have many customers that I did their showers more than 10 years ago still calling me for more jobs, and still referring me to their friends, neighbors, and relatives."
The actual work took place about 2 months later as he was already scheduled elsewhere and I needed to order all the tile. I supplied the tile and grout. He provided everything else. He showed up every day on time at 8am. He often stayed until 6 or 6:30pm to remain on schedule.
I changed a few things I wanted done once work started and he wasn't bothered by this at all. I agreed he would need to charge me more for the extra work. The additional costs were very reasonable. He didn't try to gouge me and he could have because he was already there and halfway through the work. I would have been stuck but he was an honest guy and I appreciate it.
I recommended him to my boss and his wife.
