Ok, except for the glaring portion in regards to the permit.

The verbal commitment was two weeks from start of project. Initial payment was June 26, start of work was July 6, and as of August 6th we are still not completed. We paid the final installment on July 16th and from there on the delays and no shows to the home started. The lack of response combined with lip service to commit to completing has decreased our faith in this contractor to almost zero from the start of the project. Don't pay the phase 2 until it's completely done. Also, get additional detail, in writing, into the contract he puts together. The initial contract is very vague. He is very good at rough-frame in and works very hard if he puts in plenty of hours at your home for the 1st week, but lousy at the final trim and detail after the 2nd payment is received. Even with a neighbor's referral, our mistake was contracting with him before our neighbor was completed. We are now both with unfinished work from this contractor and it looks like we will have to pay someone else to get this completed.

Still not done after 6 weeks. Tile is fine but not threshold replaced. toilet leaks and two faulty attempts have been made to address this. The crown molding still is not primed or painted and has been in our home for over a month. The walls are up and rough patched. No signs of a painter and we have been told every day it's the next day or day after for two weeks. We found out through one his workers that he never had any intention to paint even though it's in the contract and he understood this was not just install but trim and paint.

Contractor told us 1 day for this and it ended up being 4 days. He was very ill-prepared in knowing how much to purchase and did not go through the materials where he purchased before bringing to our home so instead of spending 1 full day at our home, he spent more time each day going back and forth to purchase new material as the boxes that this came in had faulty flooring he couldn't use. In addition, there are gaps in the floor and our carpet in the adjoining area is damaged with polyurethane adhesive. He has never come back to replace the thresholds for the adjoining rooms or complete the installation of the trim which needs painting and covering of the nail holes.

James Tyler of Ace Builders failed to complete our bathroom remodel, and damaged the vanity for which we paid $1,5000 . He walked off the job with $2,000 we had paid him in advance with nary a word on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. He violated the contract by not finishing the job he was paid to do, and refusing to communicate until he learned, four days later, that we had filed a claim against him in small claims court. He emailed us on July, 29, 2009, after he walked off leaving our bathroom in pieces, and demanded another $800 to finish the job, and vehemently denied that he damaged the vanity. We would not receive any further communication for four days. He did respond to us on Sunday, August 2, 2009, after he emailed another client whose contract he had violated. We'll call this client "Carol." My wife had come across Carol's complaint against Tyler via craigslist. Tyler emailed Carol, and Carol mentioned to Tyler that we filed against him in small claims court. Within a half hour of Tyler receiving thew news from Carol that we had filed against him, he emailed us. A coincidence? We will not have him in our home, and are proceeding against him. In summary, James Tyler violated our contract, took money for work he did not perform, damaged our vanity, walked off the job and refused to communicate until he learned he was being summoned to court.
