+ -1 moreWorst experience EVER! My husband and I hired Gordon Smith to repair our hot tub and we got scammed. He showed up, gave us an estimate to repair the hot tub and order a new cover. We didn't know anything about hot tubs and trusted that he would complete the job. It was excuse after excuse from that point on (car accidents, sick mother, bad knee, stolen car, etc), he showed up twice and left to get more parts each time. The work was never completed and I (stupidly) paid him in full for the job. DO NOT USE HIM, I had to hire another company and pay over $1600 to fix his work. We also did a background check and found out that he has been in jail, has numerous charges against him (fraud mainly) , a suspended license, and arrested several times. We tried calling the police but they told us we would have to sue him civilly.
Description of Work: NOTHING! He scammed us out of $2500!

+ -1 moreI couldn't disagree with the other reviews more. I called Gordon when I was selling my house and Sundance had the buyers convinced the hot tub needed $800 in repairs. Gordon came out for no charge, made 2 small repairs, verified that Sundance was completely wrong and charged me $10. I doubt that even covered his gas. Gordon saved me almost $800. He is one of a very few state-certified hot tub technicians, and the only one in this area. I would use him again absolutely.

Description of Work: We were hoping to get our hot tub repaired and when I first called Gordon he was very friendly and helpful. The first time he showed up in a timely manner and diagnosed the problem and ordered the part. It took awhile for him to get back to us to install the part. He would not show up on time, not call, etc. Finally he did come and install the part and do some needed electrical repair and it worked. There was some finishing to be done and that took many phone calls to get him to return. Meanwhile, we discovered a leak and called him back about that. He assured us he would fix that, no charge. He did come back once and looked at the leak, said he had a friend who told him how to fix it, and said he'd return to do that. We never heard from him again and by that point we wanted to have nothing to do with this guy. I would strongly warn people not to use this service as you will be sorely disappointed.

+ -1 moreThis has been a nightmare! Gordon Smith (formerly Dr. Hot Tub in Wilmington, NC) spun lie after lie in servicing our hot tub. After I fell for most of them and wrote two checks for materials and service, Smith never answered my phone calls (6 to be exact). I had no idea when he'd return, if my hot tub materials were ordered, etc. After reading numerous other reviews on the Internet, I quickly realized I had been scammed (and wasn't the first he's done this to). Smith was head of the former Dr. Hot Tub company in Wilmington (NC) where a WWAY Troubleshooter report aired on local TV about this same scam in June 2010. A warrant was put out for his arrest at that time. This was a follow-up story to another done in May 2009 on Smith. Fast forward to Above the Rest Hot Tub and Pool Repair in Raleigh, NC. Same story, new company name. Unfortunately, same crook behind the scenes. Needless to say, avoid dealing with this man.
Description of Work: Gordon Smith came out to our house to service our hot tub. After two visits and placing orders for a new filter, ozonator and spa cover (in the amount of $859), he refused to answer phone calls and never placed orders for these materials.
