The work is so bad it needs to be redone. Tommy Barber came on Thursday after 8 PM to measure it, he was 2 hours late, & he was suppose to give us an estimate amount, instead his crew came the very next day & started the work without permission. It was raining on & off that day, enough to cool that asphalt. Online they say you're not suppose to do that work in the rain. When I realized that they were doing the work, I called my husband & he said he never give him an estimate yet, plus we were going to pressure was it and have it ready for them to lay the asphalt on a dry day. We didn't rush him or told him we wanted it done as soon as possible. He demanded payment before the job was done. I wanted an invoice first but he was working to get his guys paid & he promised to write an invoice after he got back from the bank. He comes back close to 9 PM but don't have an invoice. I got a written contractor's Invoice from him a week later. When his first talked to my husband he said it would run about $3,000 then he wanted over $10,000 while the work was being done & we agreed on $5,500. His work is crumbling, is soft when the weather is hot, one side is straight the other wavy, there's grass growing thru it, & cracking too. He wrote me an invoice with a company's name "Riverside Drives" that is not legal cuz he don't have a Fedral ID number. He did wrote his SS number, but that may not even be his.
Description of Work: Re-apply asphalt to shop driveway about 30' X 60' on 5/12/17. Sealed only 1/8 portion and never came back after 20 phone calls. I guess I need to take him to small claim court.

While negotiating for payment, Tommy Barber attempted to convince my father that we were trying to steal my father's money. He accused my husband and I of being scam artists. We alerted the sheriff's department who were concerned and followed through. Our online research has shown other warnings regarding Tommy's Paving/Tommy Barber.
Description of Work: Tommy Barber began a job at my father's (elderly & sick) but we quickly put an end to it when we found out what was happening. Tommy showed up at my father's house late in the day with a partial load of rock that he said was left over from a previous job. He convinced my father that he was getting a good deal to work on his driveway. He then took full payment for the job and dumped/spread the small load of rock he brought. He left the job site and tried to cash the $7000 check but the bank had closed fortunately. We cancelled the remainder of the job and voided the check. Tommy returned the next day to collect payment for the rock on the ground. He tried to charge $912 for the rock which he had quoted to others in our community for just $400. We negotiated for $200 and paid.

Tommy Barber came to our door late one afternoon asking if we could use some asphalt. He said he just finished a local job and had some leftover asphalt. My husband talked with Tommy and agreed to have the area in front of our garage paved. Tommy's crew came in and began clearing the existing road bed and paved well into the night. While the paving was going on my husband and Tommy Barber entered into a written contract to pave from the garage all the way to our shop. We contracted for paving and sealing. My husband called a friend to find out how deep the product should be and stayed with the crew that night and the next day until the job was finished to our satisfaction. Tommy advised he had to let the asphalt cure before he could seal the surface. He never came back. My husband has called several times and we've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). This company has never returned to complete this contracted service. The actual paved area was great. The crew was very competent. As a side note. The very next night (May 20, 2010) on our local news this same company was being reported on for the number of complaints of shoddy work filed with the BBB. The Better Business Bureau had rated this company "F" thus prompting the story.
Description of Work: Excavation of gravel roadway and paving at my residence.
