I would not let Saura Farm build a sandbox for me.Sam Carter was supposed to build a koi pond and move some plants and a small tree to do the pond.Sam talked a good game, said the plans I got from online for the pond were amateur and his would be much better. It started out good but I could see things weren't going as I was told.Trees and plants were cut down instead of being moved but I could buy replacements from them (SOUR FARM).Sam also created drainage problems that I had to pay him to fix.The pond leaked from day one. Sam also used tons of sealant to control water flow in the water fall which looked like s*** .Sam & Steve Carter were hard to work with and said I was imaging that I was losing 60 gallons of water a day.The design of the water fall was like a child had designed, a 2" hose just flowing like a fire hose. Some plants he moved were basically just laid on the ground.Sam Carter started work at 10:30 and quit at 4:00 so he didn't have time to discuss the project.I have since added security cameras because I think Sam Carter is unstable and I don't want retaliation.Sam threaten me that he would tell his friends in the pond business not to work with me to have the pond redone. I thought that was kind of funny because I knew Sam didn'tknow anybody in the pond business.I could go on but to give you the basisc just find somebody else.I had an experienced pond builder redo the pond 3 months later ($5,000) he found that the liner had been punctured by Sam Carter during the install .SOUR FARM SUCKS period

The following week, Sam never came back to check on the work. I called and was told he would come the following week when the trees would be delivered. The following week, I was told by my neighbor that Sam stopped by her house to give her a written estimate and he never came by my house to check on the work. I called him and not only asked him why he didn't come to my house, but when did he plan on delivering the trees that were supposed to be delivered the previous week. He told me that the pine tree we were waiting for was in Raleigh and he planned on driving there when more trees had to be picked up. As for the Crepe Myrtles, he said Saura Farms standards were very high and they had not found any that were good enough. Said they were working on it and to be patient. I asked again about a receipt for the job and was told it would be mentioned again to his mother. The following week, my family and I went to the Farmer's Market to get some fresh produce. While there, we stopped by Saura Farms booth and Debby Carter was the only one there. My son and myself both expressed our deepest sympathies for the loss of her father. We briefly talked and before leaving we again asked Debby Carter if she could please send us the receipt for services that had previously been requested and she said it would be sent. Over the next several weeks, my family and I tried to find out when our trees would be arriving and were given many different excuses. Everything from being very busy at the farmer's market, they had other jobs they were working on, etc., etc. and still no receipt. Our patience was starting to wear thin. In the meantime, several plants started to look like they were dying. My son called Steve Carter to complain and was told he would be called back in a short while. When Steve called back, he said Sam told him that he had come to our home, rang our doorbell and when no one answered he walked around the property and said everything looked fine. I found this hard to believe since 3 of us had been home all day. My daughter-in-law called Sam and questioned him on coming to our home and he said he only drove by to look, never getting out of his car. My son who at this point was angry and frustrated, called Steve Carter. Steve told my son that he was working with a six figure client and would have to call him back. My son reminded him that his mother was also a client and he was not finished with his work for her. Steve told my son that as far as he was concerned, he no longer wanted to work with us because we were too difficult. Sam Carter called soon afterwards and spoke to my son. Sam said he would talk to his father and try to get everything resolved. He said he would call us back. He did not call back. On June 6th, 2011, my daughter-in-law called Sam to again, ask about the trees(one of which I had already purchased) and he apologized saying he was really busy and he was working on it. A few days later, my daughter-in-law received a voicemail recorded message from Steve Carter saying that he had the trees and they would be delivered the following week. After not receiving a call the following week, my son once again called Steve Carter. This call prompted an argument between Steve and my son and the phone call ended. The last contact that was made between Steve, Sam and myself/family was a few weeks ago with Sam and my daughter-in-law. She was told by Sam that my son had been very rude to his mother when we visited the Farmer's Market and was told he could no longer deal with us. She asked about the one year warranty on their work and he said he would come by and if they were dead, they would replace them. This whole ordeal has been extremely frustrating for my whole family and we all agree that the work in itself is beautiful, but not without issues. I did not expect to be treated this way and just wanted them to stand by their word and their guarantee.
Description of Work: I first met Steve Carter at the Farmer's Market in Greensboro, NC last year and took one of his business cards. This past March, I drove to his business which also happens to be his home. We spoke about doing a landscaping design in our new home and he showed us several varieties of conifers and evergreens he had on his property. Before he left. we scheduled an appointment for him to come to our home. After coming to our home and listening to our expectations, he sent several emails showing various trees, flowers and plants to choose from. The whole process was a little overwhelming being that I knew very little about the various conifers, evergreens, etc. A few days later, Steve Carter came back to my home and had a sketched drawing of the possible layout of the landscaping. We had also received a written estimate of the job. I was verbally told that his work was guaranteed for 1 year and if any trees, plants, etc. were to die, he would replace them. Included in this estimate was also a drip system for watering the plants. I told him I would get back to him to give him my final decision. I did call a few days later and told him I was not ready at that time, but I would contact him when I was. Almost a month went by and I contacted Steve Carter by phone and asked when he could start the job if I hired him. He gave me a date and I sent him a check for the deposit. Initially I was scheduled for April 19th, 2011, but we had to reschedule due to the passing of his father-in-law. On May 9th,2011 his son Sam Carter arrived with his crew and started the work. I had been led to believe that Steve Carter would also be there to oversee the work, since the majority of the discussions took place with Steve Carter. I had been told from the beginning of our discussions, that if I was not happy with the arrangements of the plants, they would gladly move them elsewhere. I did come out several times during the course of the week to oversee the work that had been done. Over all, the landscaping was beautiful! I did have to ask Sam a few times if he could rearrange a few things and also asked why there wasn't many flowers for color and he said they would come in a few days. From the beginning of my conversations with Steve Carter, I expressed to him that I wanted something that required very little maintenance and wanted flowers, plants and trees that would give color for all of the seasons throughout the year. Towards the end of the week when the majority of the job had been completed, my son commented on the lack of plants and/or color in some of the beds of landscaping. I called Steve and he came to my home the following day. He explained that several of the flowers were annuals and they would spread out during their time. I had also requested for Sam to move a tree that was planted in the front of the house and move it to the side of the house. Steve suggested another pine tree similar to one he already planted in one of the beds, be put in it's place. He said it would have take a couple of weeks for him to get it. At the same time, we talked about putting Crepe Myrtles in the front of the house in a spot that he had already removed the grass, added dirt to raise the bed and put mulch on top of. We did have to pay extra for the Crepe Myrtles and were told they had to look for them and they would deliver them along with the pine tree we were expecting in a few weeks. Sam and his crew had planned on the job being completed by Friday of that week, but had to come back for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon. When he was finished, I gave him the remainder of the money due and requested a receipt. I was told his mother Debby would send me one. He also told me he would be back the following week to make sure everything was fine. Before he left, I sent him with a landscaping book that I had just purchased and had tabs on several pages showing the colors of crepe myrtles I wanted. I did not give him this book to keep and expected him to return it when he came back.
