I have an annual retainer with them. The main reason I went to them is they supposedly use environmentally friendly chemicals on the lawn. They generally give good service. My interactions with them are good, but very limited interaction is required. They just come out every couple of months and treat the lawn. They hang it on the door when I get home that they have been here. The work turned out pretty good, not perfect, but yard maintenance is never perfect.
Description of Work: They do fertilizing and weed control for my grass.

We have an annual contract with them, so they come out several times a year. It's about $63 a visit. They come on time, quality is good, have good communication with us, and a reasonable price. They usually do the outside of the house, so I don't have to be home. We are happy with their work.

I have used their service for the past two seasons. They do an excellent job and their communications are what you would expect from a professional organization. The cost identified above are the per application charge. We pay an additional $106 for the core aeration and overseeing. I think so much of their service that I referred them to two of my daughters who appear to be very satisfied as well.

Date: April 17, 2015 at 5:56:44 PM EDT To: NaturaLawn of America <nlachristina@yahoo.com> Subject: RE: Winter Damage of Warm-Season Grasses Christina, Last year on October 7th (see email below), you stated that my lawn would be treated for annual bluegrass in the fall, that was the only time of year to address it. As I specifically addressed the POA prevention to you in an email. Your reply last year is below: Brian, Your next treatment has a pre-emergent. Pre-emergent, as stated in the information you forwarded, is for POA (annual blue grass) and crab grass. You will also receive a pre-emergent in rounds 1 & 2 of 2015.The time of year to use a pre-emergent depends on the area of the country you live in. For our region, we do this in the September/ October time frame. The pre-emergent we use is called Dimension. MY ENTIRE LAWN IS COVERED IN ANNUAL BLUE GRASS?????? I WOULD LIKE A REFUND FOR THOSE TREATMENTS? SEE PHOTO's BELOW!
Description of Work: I submitted an email on October 7th 2014 specifically asking for direction in preventing POA in the spring of 2015 (today). The Provider charged for Pre-Emergent last fall and 2 applications in 2015 and provided and email stating the applications would prevent the POA. I kept the email from the fall and reported in April 2015 that my lawn was full of the very POA we had discussed last fall, I also submitted photos. The owner replied to the email I submitted to the associate stating the service refund is 30 days from time of service that my request was outside the 30 day window. He said he would make an exception and send me a check but was canceling my service. I replied and ask him to keep the money, all I requested was an honest assessment and service that matched the assessment. As additional information, I reported the issue with photos and kept all email exchanges over the past year anticipating the problem would not be addressed. I presented the details back to the owner and the reply I received specifically s below" "Unfortunately with all the seeds I can see in your photo’s it will also be a problem again next spring regardless of what you do. There is just no way to stop that many seeds". Now compare that response to his employees response below from last August when I was attempting to prevent the issue from occurring this spring. On Oct 7, 2014, at 9:56 AM, NaturaLawn of America <nlachristina@yahoo.com> wrote: Your next treatment has a pre-emergent. Over the past year I have filled 2-3 complaints with photos and the replies I received addressing the specific issues were email reports generated by North Carolina State University horticulture department giving a "general explanation". During one specific exchange, I never received a phone call, a technician never came out to review my situation, just NCSTU "General Recommendation" emails. After becoming frustrated, I called and had the owner come out to see my lawn. The owner agreed my lawn was not adequate and had a technician come out the next day and address the concerns. Lawn improved immediately.

Response from Naturalawn of America
In response to this members email dated October 7th 2014. At no time did we state that a pre-emergent would prevent all Poa Annua from coming back into the lawn. Pre-emergent manufactures and most good lawn care providers do not guarantee 100% control because there are many other factors in Nature that can affect pre-emergent performance. Heavy rain as well as exposure to ultra-violet rays reduce the effectiveness of pre-emergents. Cultural practices such as excessively close mowing; shallow, frequent irrigation and poor soil drainage also contribute to the spread of Poa Annua. Ground temperatures determine the timing of seed germination so the timing of application is important and difficult to pin down. The members email to us even quoted information he found on-line that stated: “Research as repeatedly shown that the majority of pre-emergence herbicides labeled for use in turfgrasses will provide 80 to 90% control of annual bluegrass”. When you have as many seeds going into your lawn year after year as this member seems to have had 20% germination will result in a lawn full of Poa Annua. This member pointed out to us that he has had problems with Poa Annua in the past and wanted to make sure it was addressed. NaturaLawn of America applied pre-emergent in the fall to best address the Poa issue. Again due to factors outside our control we cannot nor can any lawn care provider guarantee a problem grassy weed like Poa will be 100% eliminated. NaturaLawn of America does not make promises we cannot keep. My email on 4/20/2015 to this member regarding not being able to stop all the seeds next season shown in the photos was an honest assessment and an attempt to set proper expectations. Unfortunately this member will have problems again next year regardless of who is servicing the lawn. There are just too many seeds being put back into the lawn and pre-emergent will not stop them all. In addition I would like to add the beginning of my email that this member choose to leave off his review: My email: (I am sorry to hear Annual Bluegrass is a problem again for you this year. While pre-emergent is in no way a guarantee to stop all Poa Annua or crabgrass seeds for that matter from germinating it should be reducing the number of seeds germinating. There are many factors that can effect pre-emergent performance, timing of application, heavy rains and ultra-violet rays also can reduce its effectiveness. Unfortunately with all the seeds I can see in your photo’s it will also be a problem again next spring regardless of what you do. There is just no way to stop that many seeds. Again applying pre-emergent in the fall should reduce the amount of Poa next spring but is no guarantee to stop it completely.) On June 11, 2014 we received a call from this member about his lawn not greening up. In 2014 we had an extended winter with cooler than normal temperatures through the spring. This caused all warm season grass lawns to have a delay in spring green up. We explained this situation to the member and then followed up with an email containing the link to the article regarding this issue from NC State Turfiles. This was done as a confirmation to the member that it was not just his lawn not greening up as normal but all warm season lawns in our area. I’m unsure why forwarding this information was perceived as a problem with our service. We want our customers to be educated about what is happening with their lawns. This was an attempt to provide additional information on the lack of green up last spring. The NaturaLawn guarantee states “If you’re not satisfied with your last application notify us within 30 days and we will reapply at no charge or refund the cost of the treatment and cancel future treatments” While the treatment in question was done 6 months prior I offered to go ahead and refund the members cost anyway. After reading about the enviro-friendly methods of lawn treatment that Naturalawn employs I called and requested a quote. They came out on time and surveyed my property. Afterward they discussed a course of action to get my lawn in shape. Very professional, up front pricing with a total satisfaction guarantee AND NO CONTRACT! I scheduled my first lawn treatment. The tech showed up on time, treated the lawn and offered a few suggestions of things I could do as well. I really like this company and the way they do business. Highly recommended!

Overall I am pleased with the lawn treatment service. Pricing is comparable with other vendors. I do appreciate the inspection reports and handout info provided. One small quality item was technician forgot to blow off driveway & walkways after one treatment session. I asked for same to be completed in future visits & the technician did perform the walkway blowoff on his next inspection.

NaturaLawn of America is a very professional company. I initially contacted them because I seen one of their trucks on the highway on my way to work. They were very prompt in responding to my initial inquiry. They informed me that they were on Angie's List when I asked for referrals. They also informed me of the coupon available on Angie's List and told me that I could take advantage of the discounted offer. Ever since I hired them, they have kept me very well informed about the work that they will do, and has done on my lawn. They provided a written agreement outlining the services and price that we agreed upon. I'm looking forward to my business relationship with NaturaLawn of America and I hope to be a customer for life.

Always enjoy their professionalism and courtesy. They do a great job, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. A few years ago, I was unemployed for a few months, so I had them put the services on hold. The guy who fertilized my yard called me and gave me specific instructions on what fertilizer to use and where to get it cheap until I was ready to have them start up again. I decided then and there that they had a customer for life.

I first met the owner a couple of years ago at the Southern Spring Show and was impressed with his them garden and his native plants at the show. I started thinking about have ing a professionals work on my yard since the natural products i had been using had only limited sucess. David came to my house and explained why I had so much clover in the yard and that by using his product it would eliminate it. I signed up for the additinal programs since i know from personal experience that a healthy yard or garden starts with a healthy soil. I was not pressured into these extra services butcould readily see they would help my soil this year and would most likely not be needed again. David was prompt when he was scheduled to come and then spent the time I needed to understand what he proposed to do.
Description of Work: My yard was overrun with weeds like clover and using natural fertilizer bought from either the hardware store or mailorder had only limited sucess so I decided to try going with professionals. It is important to me to use only natural products and Naturallawn had a great program available. I signed up for bi-monthly treatments and the additional treatments of aeration with a 15 beneficial soil structure aids..I have already noticed a big improvemnet in the lawn with the clover virtually gone and most of the weeds as well. I do not caree if my lawn is the perfect lawn as that is usually accomplished by massive doses of unnatual chemicals and i do not wish to use them.

Between the heat of summer last year and a bad batch of sod, we lost all of our grass last summer. The only thing green in our yard was fungus and weeds. We called Scott's since they treat some of our neighbors and they missed 5 scheduled appointments with us. We called Naturalawn of America. They did a chemical test of our soil and customized the treatment to our lawn needs. They made numerous extra trips to our house to check on the status of the weeds and fungus. When they leave after each treatment, they leave detailed instructions of what they did and how to care for the lawn the next few days (and one time a note making us aware they saw a baby copperhead snake while treating the lawn). They also leave yummy dog treats each time they come. Naturalawn always calls after the lawn is treated to see how it has worked. It started coming along so well and their customer service is phenomenal we used them to air aide, seed and fertilize. Now that spring is here, our lawn is thick and green and the best looking on the block! Scott's has been calling us over the past month and even showed up at our door. They even offered us a cheaper rate. We told them "No way. We are good and have no intentions of switching."

I have used Gene Hudgens of NaturaLawn for almost 2 years now. When he started, the yard was pretty much all weeds. The front is now almost weed free and looking great. The back is getting there, but is a little harder with the dogs. Gene is very informative and easy to get ahold of. My neighbor has been so impressed with my lawn that he has now just started using Gene. I am sure that this will help my lawn along since his lawn is now where my lawn was two years ago. This referral will save me $50 off my next bill. Another neighbor told me last year that no one else that has lived in my house (3 prior owners) has ever been able to get as much grass as I had, and that was a year ago!

Description of Work: I got in touch with this Pineville headquarters, and immediately was put in touch with their more local (to me) representative in Huntersville... Gene Hudgens. Gene was outstanding... got in touch with me via email right away, we set up an appt. to have him check my lawn (major crab grass infestation), and I hired him right then to fertilize and treat my lawn and aerate and seed. Impressive start. Don't know how the whole process will pan out, but I was pleased from the get go.

My lawn never looked consistently good. It constantly had issues with it that NaturaLawn could not, would not, or did not fix. Everytime I complained, I got some answer regarding the special conditions in North Carolina, the weather, my neighbors yard, the drought, car tires blowing bermuda seeds up from the street etc. etc. All these things may be true, but if so, then they should have said "we can't get your lawn green, all fescue grass and free of weeds on a consistent and ongoing basis." I dealt with them for a long time and all I heard were excuses all the while they continued to take my money. One employee said their "natural" products to kill the weeds were mild and they required repeated visits, but they did not make the repeated visits. Only very recently was I told that I had to call to get the tech to show up again for free visits. Why do I have to do this if you know the mild chemicals need more visits? By the way, I only learned that I got additional "free" visits between paid visits very recently. All the while I have been talking to them about my lawn, I was not told until the last few weeks that I could get more visits. My lawn looked so bad at one point I took pictures of the crazy looking tall weeds and emailed them to their office. Anyway, once I started asking for these additional visits and requesting that they get my lawn in decent shape, they fired me as a customer! Once again if it was not possible for them to give me an all green, generally weed free, generally all fescue lawn, then they should have told me that upfront or after my first complaint so I could decide myself if I wanted to pay for "C" results when my expectation was for an "A" lawn. I consider this a shoddy business practice. The the above circumstances are preventing me from having a golf course looking front yard then I can pay $50/year and do it myself. The guy firing me was really the last straw. My yard has weeds of all kind all over it and now he's telling me that I am wrong for trying to get what I was paying for. Would you continue to see and pay a personal trainer if you never lost weight and they blamed it on factors outside your control like your age and genetic factors?

Response from Naturalawn of America
The failure in this business relationship is about one thing, expectations as it pertains to lawn care. This member has told us in the past that he expects a year round basically perfect lawn like he had in Michigan. We have tried to explain to the member that growing a cool weather grass like Fescue in summers like we have here in Charlotte is not the same as in Michigan, this summer is already the 3rd hottest on record. All lawns will have their ups and downs as weather and seasons change and summers are always the hardest on lawns in the Charlotte area. We have serviced this member’s lawn for three summers now, each year it suffers from drought stress and then weed growth in the drought stressed areas. We have left Drought Stress Fact Sheets each summer on 7/1/2008, 8/28/2009 and 5/10/2010. Currently almost 50% of this member’s front lawn is completely dormant from drought stress. The photos this member sent to us showed mainly Crabgrass in drought stress, thinned out areas of the lawn. This member has told us that he frequently travels on business and is not able to water when out of town due to not having an irrigation system. We’ve explained that when a lawn goes dormant and thins out from drought there is no competition to stop weeds. We spray for weeds and of course new weeds replace those killed. Only the customer can prevent drought stress in a lawn. As far as the products NaturaLawn of America uses, yes we stay away from harsh product like 2,4-D because of their links to carcinogens. The products we use are effective in most cases with one application, hard to control weeds such as Wild Violets or Buttonweed however may require two treatments a few weeks apart and our technicians will schedule those extra visits as needed, for this member we have done that on three separate occasions. Simply having a thick growing lawn, which out competes weed growth, can stop 90% of weeds in any lawn. Harsh chemicals should not be necessary. I visited the lawn on 7/22/2010 and found a few Crabgrass plants along with some Spotted Spurge, as well as dead Crabgrass from our previous visit. 95% of the weeds were in the drought stressed thinned out areas. I sprayed the weeds using less than one cup (8oz) of control material. This hardly qualifies as a lawn full of weeds. Photos were taken, along with the photo’s the member sent to us backup this statement. We have explained multiple times in the past that Bermuda grass is coming in from neighbors lawns on both sides of his lot and that there are no selective controls that will stop Bermuda grass. This is a fact for all lawn care companies. I personally met with this member last summer to talk about Bermuda grass in his lawn and explained this. In the past this member has called our office and requested Free Service Calls on 6/19/2008, 10/24/2008 and 2/27/2009. His statement about just learning we did Free Service Calls is not true and has nothing to do with the cancellation of his account. This member’s account was cancelled because as he has told us in the past and has again highlighted in this report, he expects a year round golf course lawn even though he admits to not being able to water the lawn when traveling. We have repeatedly told this member his expectations are not realistic but he refuses to adjust them. We see no benefit from continuing a business relationship when unrealistic expectations on the part of the customer cannot be achieved, neither party benefits from this type relationship. NaturaLawn of America has won Angie’s list Super Service Award 4 out of the last 5 years, I don’t think this would be the case if we had shoddy business practices, Owner, NaturaLawn of America John Cannon

After the draught two years ago, I completely lost my yard to weeds and bermuda grass. After several restoration attempts on my own and a few with the usual national chains, I had resigned myself to paying to have the yard completely replaced. However, after reading about Naturalawn I decided to give it one last try. I killed the whole yard using Roundup and called Naturalawn. I can't say enough about the results. The lawn established itself beautifully in the fall and over the winters. I waited to write this review to see if the usual spring weeds would appear and they are simply gone. This company is the best. Period.

The problem is that their work is intertwined with the climate. When we hired them last year, this area was in a drought situation and we had periods of no-watering and periods of once-per-week watering. It was difficult because I didn?t see the results that I wanted but I couldn?t really completely attribute it to them. I can say that I wasn?t happy but I can?t say that it was their complete fault. I have continued with them this year too because I wanted to see how things go as the drought condition situation has changed. They did aeration and seeding for me within the last 3 or 4 weeks, and I?m just waiting to see how that comes up. I?ve been speaking to them and they are supposed to be coming out and taking a look at it just to make sure that things are going properly. I will have some more information on that after I meet with them. The aeration and seeding costs are separate, and this year it was about $350. I think they come out roughly every other month for the other ongoing services and it costs $62 per visit. If you want anything else done that is not part of their normal service, you end up paying extra. They came out and killed some Bermuda grass I had, and that cost $25 per visit. The price is pretty average for what I?ve seen around town. They have been very responsive; when I call them they return my call. I am never home when they come by and I presume that they are punctual. I have dealt with the owner of the franchise and his wife, and they have been very professional.
Description of Work: We use Naturalawn of America basically for chemical treatment, and once a year they do seeding, aeration and things like that. They have come out three times and killed some Bermuda grass for me.
