As I said before Mitch was prompt, professional and worked to try and get someone to fix the problem. By the way the new timer works as it should. But it appears that they are not going to be making those parts much longer either. Mitch even had to call in to get help getting his computer to close out the work order because the young lady who ordered the parts had ordered a new unit rather than the required reconditioned parts that he was supposed to order and use. He didn't even order the parts but he had to explain several times that his computer system wouldn't allow him to use the new part Sears provided. I don't remember them telling me that they even prefer to use refurbished parts when they were selling me the washer and the extended warranty. Needless to say I feel as though it's false / misleading sales tactics when they know in advance that they are going to use anything but new parts in repairs and were is the list of what it appears they never had any intentions of fixing under the warranty they sell.
Description of Work: Our washing machine would not function on all cycles. I called Sears wear I had purchased the machine and an extended service contract. Sears scheduled the repair appointment and sent the suspect parts ahead of the date for repairs. Mitch the service tech. called ahead to tell me when he would be there between 1 - 5 p.m. He arrived when he said he would and had the washer repaired in approximately 15 - 20 minutes. There are serious problems with the finish all over the front of the 2009 unit. Mitch tried more than one way to get that fixed but was told buy Sears that it was just a cosmetic issue and did not keep the washer from cleaning clothes. From my perspective no one in the sales department at Sears told me that the paint would fall off the front panel of the washer in three or four years. It's not just paint coming off but the metal is rusting / eroding away. I just didn't expect that the metal part of the machine would fall apart and no options for resolving the issue were given except for ME getting some appliance paint sanding it down and repainting it. It seems that Sears must believe that their appliances only have a life expectancy of less than four (4) years as the don't even make the parts needed to repair the problem. It would be nice if they would tell you that on the sales floor and price their product accordingly! I can understand the $100.00 plastic timer going out in 3 - 4 years but the metal cabinet and the paint falling apart is disappointing to say the least. When I called in for the repair under the extended service agreement I had purchased I explained the structural issues to the young lady I spoke with, she assured me that the service tech. would be able to address / resolve the finish issue as well as the timer. Talk about putting him in a bad position. I must say that Mitch the service tech. that came out made me believe that he tried every way he and some other service techs. he called could come up with to get the thing fixed. When he called his bosses they told him flat out no way. I guess I thought that the extended warranty they were anxious to sell me didn't quite provide the protection that it was implied it did at the time of purchase. I can only imagine that somewhere in the paperwork they give you when you buy something the fine print will tell me that it really wasn't an extended warranty but an abbreviated warranty that covers what they feel is a reasonable expectation of performance, not really the "anything goes wrong" that they tell you to sell the extended warranty.
