Prior to my issues in 2013, I did not have a lot of knowledge concerning termites or termite protection. I probably did what most people do and blindly pay the annual fee to keep the contract up to date. In November 2013, I had Empire Flooring install new hardwood and tile in my home. While pulling up the old Tile, termite damage was discovered. I called Melvin's immediately. The company responded promptly and found the termite tubes/evidence and sprayed chemical to the affected areas. They then informed me that I was still under contract through the rest of the year; however, that I was actually two years overdue for a retreatment and it needed to be done immediately (something they failed to report on my previous inspections). The technician assured me that the damage probably wasn't too severe based on the length of time since my last inspection. Once the floor was pulled up, the damage was clearly more advanced then anticipated. There was significant damage to the underlayment, subfloor and joists in multiple locations. The real slap in the face was the moisture level annotations for each annual inspection were written on one of the joist directly below the damaged area. I emailed pictures to the owner of Melvin's and asked for clarification on why this could happen and received no response. The only service that was covered by Melvin's was for them to spray chemical to the active sites. I decided that I should hire another contractor to do the retreatment and subsequent service. When they came to give me an estimate, they were shocked by what they found. According to the new contractor, Termite companies are required by NC law to drill into the block and conduct a thorough inspection anytime they see evidence of termites and this had not been done. Again, all they did was spray chemical in the affected area and tell me that I needed a retreatment. I joined Angie's list a couple of months ago to find a sub contractor to complete the repairs due to the remaining damage from the Termites which prompted this review.
Description of Work: This review is old; however, I am a new member to Angie's List. I purchased a newly constructed home in 2005 and the builder secured the Termite Bond with Melvin's Termite and Pest Control. I continued the service contract (approximately $120 per year) with Melvin's from 2005 - 2014. They performed, a once of year, annual termite inspection on my home.
I cannot give the full review & comments at this time. It's only 1st visit. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th are still to come... Melvin's Pest Control recommended 4-5 visits to get rid of insects in the house.
Description of Work: They are very busy and hard to get appointment that fits my work schedule, I had to call for appointment in advance. I was told to have at least 4-5 visits to get rid of insects in the house 1st visit cost $150.00 - that was done. 2nd visit will be in late August 2013 3rd visit will be late September 2013 4th visit will be in late October 2013 5th visit will be in late November 2013 Don't know it yet of how good Melvin's Pest Control is... I will see...
