 + -1 moreWe were very pleased overall with our new roof. The crew (Mr. Rorem did not participate in the actual reshingling but was present to make sure the correct materials were on site) did a very professional job, both on the install and then in the clean-up. I wanted the nails to be hand nailed but they were air-gunned. Mr. Rorem advised that air-gunning the nails worked just as well but if I really wanted them hand nailed it would cost an extra $150.00. I opted for the air nailing and it went fine. As far as the many quotes I obtained, Mr. Rorem's quote was very good compared to the majority of the quotes. I would definitely recommend Tip Top Roofing.
Description of Work: We had our split level style home (built approximately in 1957 and which we purchased about 5 years ago) re-roofed after experiencing a couple of persistent leaks. I chose Tip Top Roofing by way of a local hardware company's list of roofers and Angie's list for customer opinions. Steven Rorem, owner of Tip Top Roofing, came immediately to give us a quote for the job. We were not at home but Mr. Rorem went ahead and inspected our roof and quoted us a price by way of e-mail. In the process of re-roofing, Mr. Rorem's crew had to replace a large amount of bad sheathing. They also replaced the flashing around the chimney and installed a ridge vent, which we did not have previously.

 + -1 moreFound Tip-Top roofing on Angies list. Called, left msg. Steve promptly returned my call and we arranged a time for him to come estimate the need repair. He came at the agreed upon time. When he arrived, he was friendly and professional. Observed water marks under our eaves, climbed his ladder to second floor roof over porch and quickly diagnosed the problem. Steve took a picture so I could show my husband the problem and emailed a very fair estimate to us. I called and accepted his estimate and we arranged a mutually agreeable time to make the repairs. Steve and 2 assistants arrived, fixed the leak and cleaned up afterwards. I asked Steve to take a picture of the repair for my husband and he did. All-in-all a very satisfying experience.
Description of Work: Diagnosed, located and repaired leak on porch roof. The porch had been added to our house about 10 years ago. Leak was caused by inadequate sealing around the existing chiminey. New sealing applied and affected roof tiles replaced. At my request, the problem was documented by photograph as was the repair. Done in less than 2 hours. Area cleaned and tiles not used left in our garage.

We were very pleased that Steve didn't rush through the job, but made sure all the aged boards were replaced. They had to do more of this than they expected so the job took a little longer than they anticipated. We were even more pleased to see that he held his price to the original estimate (we had agreed to pay for the roof board materials as required - this is impossible to know for certain until the old shingles are off.) Steve is very professional - prompt, responsive, skilled - a pleasure to work with. We also felt we got great value. We got two other quotes for our roof. Steve wasn't the least nor the most expensive. We felt that the roofer who gave us the lowest price had not taken the time to really look at the roof and understand the job. Steve spent enough time investigating to determine what the scope of work would be and clearly stated that in his scope. The most expensive quote included replacing flashing on the roof and other things. Steve took and look and felt those things did not need replacing. I never mind paying a fair price for a job well done - we were very satisfied.

 + 0 moreI had a roof leak due to a gutter penetrating a shingle (bad gutter install - not tip-top). My call for an estimate was returned the next day and ultimately he was able to get out that day as well. While repairing that he also addressed some standpipe gaskets I asked him to look at and fix. I was foolish to have him proceed with all the above before asking the price, but it came back very fair, and he even revisited a week later after we discovered another leak at no charge. Regarding the negative review I saw - understand that you are not their only client and to accommodate your emergency means neglecting someone else. My schedule was flexible enough to allow Steve to call when he was diving between larger jobs on short notice, but sometimes you're gonna have to wait. I gave a B on responsiveness because I personally can't trust perfect reviews and though my experience is limited I expect most calls end up in a voicemail that is not returned until the end of the day or the following morning.

Steve and his crew did a quality job. After a few rains, I observed a small leak around a gas vent on the roof. I called Steve and he came the same day to correct the problem. His guarantee is for real. I have called him on two other occassions to ask questions about my roof concerning ridge vents and ventilation. He returned my calls and gave me good advice and a clear explanation. I am proud of my new roof and feel confident that I got a a quality job. Description of Work: Steve and his roofing team installed a new roof with architectural shingles on my son's two story home in October, 2010. His quote was very clear and punctual after contacxting him. The roof was in very poor conditioin, requiring much work on replacing boards. We were able to talk daily with the crew foreman about the conditions that were found after the tear off of the shingles. Our request was to replace all plywood sheets and flashings that had holes or cracks or were in poor condition. This request was done with accuracy and skill. The crew had to replace many sheets and install flashings which required much hard work. Each day, they took the time to do the job correctly and share with us what had been done. The roof looks great. There have been no leaks. This job was quite a challenge for any roofer. Steve and Tip Top Roofing did a quality job and was a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend this company.

 + -1 moreI called at 8:30 a.m. to see if they could get out to fix the flashing on a roof vent, which had leaked terribly during a storm the night before, causing significant water damage on my bathroom ceiling. Steve said that he might be able to get out by 11 a.m., when I was leaving for work; otherwise, he would call me at work and I would meet him at my house. He never came by or called, even after I called later that afternoon to leave a message requesting an update. His misleading me about his ability to come by to fix my leaking roof meant that I was unable to then get somebody else out that day to fix it, which resulted in even more water damage when it rained again later that day. If he couldn't get to it, he should have said so and let me try to find someone else who could, instead of lying to me and costing me even more money.

 + -1 moreSteve was very prompt w/ estimate. Answered all questions and supplied samples of available shingle choices as well as addresses where chosen shingle color was installed. References were included w/ the quote, which was the lowest of 3 received. Started promptly on the day he quoted and would have finished on the following day. However, there was a problem w/ a "tacked on" porch roof that was rotten and needed to be removed. He suggested a carpenter to remove it, who arrived that evening to look over. Porch roof was removed and Steve returned to finish the job. Am very pleased w/ the results. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

 + -1 moreLeft message and call was promptly returned. We made an appointed for the next day. I was delighted to see the company owner, not one of is employees arrive for the appointment. He quickly assessed the situation and took appropriate corrective action. I feel he was honest in his assessment of my roof even though he knew I was leaning towards replaceing it he advised that I easily had another 2-3 years before I needed to consider that. Considering the current economy he could have easily taken advantage of the situation but he didn't. I would not hesitate to recommend Tip Top Roofing to family and friends and will certainly use them in the future. Integrity wins my business every time.

Steve provided samples and addresses of the color we were considering so we could see how they looked on a house. They started a half day before he expected. The crew chief and laborers were very attentive and professional. Took about two days to complete..looked great..clean-up very good..took care of a couple of issues I asked about and replaced some of the ridge vent baffling that didn't look quite right after the job was finished. I couldn't be more pleased with this company!
Description of Work: They tore off old roof and replaced with a 30 year roof. They also repaired some siding that was in bad shape and replaced the small roof stacks and replaced the ridge vent (free for Angie's List members).

They were extremely punctual, and even called the night before to let us know when they'd arrive to make sure they weren't blocking anyone in the garage when they started that section. The workers cleaned up each evening, and we didn't find more than a few stray nails over the month after installation. They finished in 4 days, including one day off for rain. Punctual, courteous, professional - would definitely use them again!

 + -1 moreThe crew was very punctual, arriving usually around 6:30 in the morning (we warned the neighbors). It took them 4 days to complete the job. It all looks very good. They did accidentally bump the house with their truck, causing some damage to our cedar shakes. At the same time, I feel they went above and beyond what we were expecting, by replacing some rotted fascia on our shed and helping us try to save the nest of baby birds that had hatched under the eaves. They were fairly thorough about cleanup as well, although there was still some construction (insulation) materials to clean up, and our hostas are now flat history.
Description of Work: Took off old shingles, replaced plywood where necessary, installed 30 yr. architectural shingles, ridge vent, and soffit vents on main house roof. Removed old and installed new shingles also on carport and shed.

 + -1 moreWe actually did not know about the leaks as our inspector had found them. Steve is the one who did the roofing. He comes to this area all the time. The nice thing about him is that when he comes out for a leak or something, he only charges you for a single visit. Basically, a single charge for a single problem. I just could not believe how good he was. He is a very nice man.
